I killed them. All three of them. They might have been brothers. Maybe cousins. They dressed alike--army fatigues--and carried boxes of ammunition. They were bandits, and several people had already died by their hands. The road was littered with bodies, trophies, warnings to passerby. And my friend Aviate and I gunned them down on the hill outside of Elektro. This is DayZ at its finest. Emergent stories. I am a survivor, and I will not be a victim. Follow me tonight at 10:00PM EST on the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream. But be prepared to do whatever it takes to survive! Also, I like beards.

My friends, my countrymen, my comrades-in-arms during this most Z of Days. We again venture into Chernarus tonight at 10:00PM EST. We're getting better, getting stronger, getting smarter to survive against the undead and living alike, but we still need your expertise! Do not let us become a blood cow to the most heinous of bandits! Follow us during the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream for laughs, cries, and the hardest beard nipples you've ever seen. http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1

Hey Everyone! So I'm fairly new to the game: about 2 and a half weeks of on and off gameplay (give or take). I run a Twitch stream, and I always spend a good chunk of my time looking for gear in front of my viewers. Now, they don't mind at all (it's a good chunk of the game, after all), and we have a lot of fun, but I'm looking for ways to optimize my time gearing up. What I'm looking for is your best tips for gearing up quickly: § Where do you tend to go first for weapons? § What towns have the most dependable stashes of food, water, and ammo? § Are there certain routes that you can recommend for a great, quick way to gear up? So far, I've been pretty successful hitting up the abandoned ship near Guba as well as Guba itself, but you guys are the experts, and I'm sure many of you know the best military base or hidden gem of a town that I should be looking for! Thanks in advance for your input, guys.

Finally, I see a mention of the use of vitamins! Thanks for this tip, mySoup117. By the way, I see that Neo avatar from Matrix Reloaded. Not to veer off topic, but did you enjoy the last two movies?

Lets talk Hero's, Bandits, and Humanity
MikeReverb replied to Alpha Cowboy's topic in General Discussion
I don't see any harm in wanting to add systems to a game. Realistic or not, DayZ is a game with rules and systems in place to create a certain experience. Alpha Cowboy, the OP, is trying to think of ways to improve his experience with the game by adding a new system. But it'd be tough to do that at this point without majorly upsetting people. Imagine if a system like this--perks and punishments--had already been implemented into the DayZ mod back when. I doubt any of us would be upset about it--it was part of the game; we'd get used to it and probably get upset if it were TAKEN out. Of course, raynor009 makes a good point when he says that it would break realism. But would a system like this be less fun? Does fun need to = realism? Plenty of games aren't realistic. But I guess the appeal of this one is that it's closer to being real than many other games. Would it really break the game--destroy your enjoyment of what makes DayZ fun--if you had something else to think about before you shot that guy who hasn't seen you yet in Elektro? -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
MikeReverb replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Hahaha, your last point is hilarious, man, and spot on in many cases. I'll admit that at first I'd be dismayed at the loss of third person, but that's only because I'm so used to it. 3rd person controls in DayZ are just like Skyrim, Fallout 3, or Oblivion: not ideal for combat or other situations--I always stayed in 1st person in those games. But to keep yourself alive right now, it's necessary (at least for me). If EVERYONE had to go first person, then I wouldn't mind one bit, honestly. It'd make the game more realistic. Again, it would have to be everyone. :P -
I definitely hate the map pieces; I was so happy when I finally found a map the other day only to learn it was only of west Chernarus. I was far to the east. I won't get into it being realistic or not; it just isn't fun or practical. It's not like there are maps all over the place. If it's this rare, then it should at least be whole. Just sayin'!
-
Hahaha, TacticalBanana, I love this and your signature. :P I've only recently began murdering people in-game. I've done it only as a means of survival (no food/water) or when threatened, but it was pretty fun nonetheless.

Awesome, orlok. Many thanks to you. :)

Please for the love of god don't add "Sanity."
MikeReverb replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Serenity now . . . INSANITY LATER! Ok. That's out of my system. Sanity sounds like an interesting concept, honestly, but I wouldn't want it in practice either. Does it reflect reality in some way? Would you go insane if you shot someone to survive? Or am I missing the subtleties of a sanity system? Players get killed. All you can hope for is the chance to get revenge eventually. Or have some kickass friends avenge you! -
Players who exploit the ability to server hop and players who don't.
MikeReverb replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
That's very true about the different mediums, Mutonizer. I've watched some YouTube videos of DayZ, and they can just edit out the slogging around for gear. They just highlight the best moments. It's life with the boring parts taken out. I can certainly see this as just a social thing (unless Bohemia decides to enforce some kind of restriction on server hopping). Most likely it'll never fully go away.I find that the longer I play the game, the less tolerant I am of running around trying to find gear. Does that make sense? I just want to get back to the good stuff, like an addict. I need that high again! :) -
DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
MikeReverb replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
I'm actually pretty torn on this issue too, Murakamo. I can understand what some posters like elf cakes mean when they say that your friend should learn the ropes solo (that's what I had to do). Then again, I know how frustrating that can be. Maybe your friend is the type that would give up after an hour of not knowing what to do. In that case, helping him makes sense. I've had viewers on my Twitch stream hop into my game and try to find me. It sometimes took an hour or more. However, once we got used to the map a bit more, it got much easier. Finding each other doesn't become a problem: traversing the map does, and there's no way to cut down on that at the moment. The game is definitely brutal to newbies like me and your friend, but part of the appeal is growing personally--learning where to scavenge, where the towns are, the PVP hot spots, etc. I'm still learning, especially from the great people on this forum. Maybe it's some kind of test for who would actually hank it in a real world apocalypse. Maybe DayZ is a front for Bohemia's recruitment for when-the-shit-hits-the-fan preparations. :P -
NW Airfield was also mentioned by another forum member. Been there once, got killed very fast. May have to give it another shot. Never been to Green Mountains. I'm looking at the DayZDB map now trying to pinpoint where it is. Could you give me a general idea of where on the map to search?

Players who exploit the ability to server hop and players who don't.
MikeReverb replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
This has surprised me to no end, Aradia. It happened while playing last night with a buddy of mine. We were at the airfield near Belota, and someone popped up right behind me. Suffice to say, my friend and I drew our weapons quickly and made sure the guy was friendly. I can freely admit to server hopping; not until I got onto these forums did I see it was an issue. I stream on Twitch a lot, and server hopping allows me to get gear faster so that I can do some of the more entertaining aspects of the game in front of my viewers. However, I may need to rethink this a bit. Korsbaek mentioned just joining low population servers until I'm geared. Maybe that's the way? Unless you guys have other suggestions for gearing up efficiently (and, hence, not needing to server hop). -
Ah, Zelenogorsk. I've never been there. I'll have to check it out. The Northwest airfield has been a pain in the ass to get to; I've been there once and got killed by a sniper. But once I make it to Zelenogorsk, I guess the distance wouldn't be as bad. Thanks for the tip and the map, man!

Hey Fellas! I'm back again with another DayZ stream! I had a blast yesterday--from trying to feed my group a rotten kiwi to stalking a sniper in the bush. We have a lot of fun on the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream. :) Tonight I'll be traveling up to Guba most likely, and I hope to bring a few friends along! Anyone is welcome to join us--my steam profile is here. I'll also be giving away two games: Mark of the Ninja and Trine 2: Complete Story that one of my viewers lovingly donated. Follow my stream for a chance to win. It all starts tonight at 10:00PM EST over at http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1

Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113953
MikeReverb replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Amen to this. I've recently gone out of my way to go inland, or at least much farther northeast, to get away from the cluster-fudge that's the southern coastal towns. I've had more fun running all the way up toe Guba than I have previously, and the loot is all mine! -
It's that time again, my DayZ brethren. I'll be streaming DayZ tonight AND giving away 4 Awesome Games! These games are: Limbo Spelunky Legend of Dungeon Mark of the NinjaNo hoops, no forms, no jumping on one foot to get a game. Just show up, Follow my stream, and say the magic word before I roll the dice. It's that simple! The fun starts tonight at 6:00PM EST on the MikeReverb1 Twitch Stream.

Demystification of the DayZ loot spawn system [SPOILER]
MikeReverb replied to insitv's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for this information. It's always interesting to peak behind the curtain. However, I don't plan to use the information. I like my gameplay to be "organic" if it makes sense. Ignorant of the mechanics, relying on luck of the draw. That's part of what makes the game interesting. If I know how to increase my luck overall, it kind of kills it for me. But! No hate for those who prefer to use this system to their advantage. Just don't shoot me, bro! -
I've been there, man. Don't let the few that act like dicks turn you into a bandit. Sure, it'll save you some headaches, and it can even be fun to be the bad guy, but I've had a lot more fun helping people than trying to kill them on sight. I would say that talking using a mic is better than typing something out; I've teamed up with really good players just by saying "hey, what's up?" There's something about hearing a person's voice that will make people hesitate before hurting you. A voice is humanizing if it makes sense. You should try and team up with a friend or two and play. I stream DayZ on Twitch, and I've started playing with my viewers. It makes a world of difference.

Hey Everyone! My name is MikeReverb, a newbie streamer who's been enjoying DayZ for the past few days. I've been streaming for only about 2 1/2 weeks so far, and the channel has been growing slowly into a great community. I want to give back to those who have been watching and meet some new viewers too. So tonight, on Christmas Eve, at 10:00PM EST, I'll be giving away 7 steam games. (I do hope this is the right place to post this--I looked for forum rules for/against giveaways and didn't find anything, so any clarification would be good!) DayZ Standalone Hotline Miami Starbound Half-Life 2 + Episode 1 Portal Braid Papers Please If enough people show up, may even add a few more presents under the MikeReverb tree. :) To enter, all you have to do is show up to the stream, follow the channel, and put in the magic word before I roll the dice. It's that simple--no hoops to jump through at all. So come join us at http://twitch.tv/mikereverb1 tonight for a chance to win, to have some laughs, and to meet some awesome people. --Mike Reverb
