    Dissapointed new player

Sounds like you'd better put this title on the shelf for a while and come back later. The rest of us alpha testers are trying to help the devs polish it up for you. We'll be at it for some time still.
  2. Was going to think of an intelligent, articulate response to this...but then I saw the gif and all the blood left my brain.

    No way!!!

I LITERALLY crapped my pants when I read this. BRB.

    Killing Unarmed Players

I applaud this kind of behavior. Beans to you. I'd be more inclined to do it myself if I ever ran into someone who wasn't either actively trying to beat me to death or just obviously up to no good. ^_^
  5. First off, that's a great tactic. It makes very good sense. However, the game has its unstable moments and servers aren't great about announcing restarts. I suggest you find a less conspicuous backpack as soon as you can, and just be extra cautious until then, but don't take it off. Anything left on the ground is likely to be cleaned up when you least expect it. I recommend the Hunting Backpack, which is slightly smaller, but it doesn't block the view over your shoulder and blends in much better with the vegetation than even the Green Taloon or Mountain backpacks. There will eventually come a time when this tactic will make sense. Just wait for the next few iterations of the game to be released.
  6. OP, I think it might have been a good idea for you to read the forums a little before jumping into the game. That way you might've gone in a little better prepared. The atmosphere now is HOSTILE. It may always be hostile. Don't waste any energy on goodwill towards men. I don't.
  7. We'll just see if anyone gets close enough to put one of those on *my* head.

    Don't bother buying

    LOL banned.

    Don't bother buying

You can do like the rest of us: Either get better, or GTFO.

Canopy towers for transportation inside the woods

I think OP means Robin Hood-style forest canopy bridges and treehouses. I could be wrong, but if I'm right... LOL. I don't think that'll ever happen.

    The value of a character

Like pretty much everyone involved with DayZ, I've been thinking about how to encourage cooperation in the game. TL;DR: I think we may need a class system. How about this: Remember in the mod, how everyone was equally adept at medicine, automotive repair, aircraft maintenance and piloting? Well, piloting was dependent a lot on individual skill, but pretty much everybody had the same skill set. I always thought that was a little unrealistic. There are some things you'll need to already have under your belt when the apocalypse rears its ugly head. You're not going to just magically know everything. What if you could choose a starting profession, but you were stuck with it for the duration? And what if your encounters with new players began to feel more like a recruitment effort? Say you're an Aircraft Mechanic, and the other guy's a Pilot. Maybe you'll only know if you ask. Maybe you're the only guy for miles that knows how to make an improvised explosive? Or treat a bacterial infection? ...or distill everyone some sweet, sweet vodka? If something like this doesn't encourage people to reach out and buddy up, then maybe humanity is indeed ready to die out. Comments?

    The value of a character

Looks like a lot of posters don't understand. My idea wasn't supposed to be about "grinding". It was about players having some benefit to others outside of what gear they were carrying.

When I spawn - where should I head to?

Many new military outposts have been added in the Standalone. Look for military-type buildings. You can find them in many places, notably Zelenogorsk, Green Mountain, the large airfield in the Northwest (NWAF), the smaller airfield northeast of Krasnostav, and the big hill northwest of NWAF. The cities may also have some barracks buildings added, but barracks tend not to spawn much ammo. There is a brand new military base situated southeast of Pavlovo too, but regard it with the same caution as you would Balota. It is frequently picked over. Also don't hang out at Green Mountain. The ghosts that haunt the facility will drive you insane.

What's worse? Being KoS'd or held up

I think being held up is probably worse, because extremely seldom is the person being held up not killed or severely poisoned, resulting in death. What's the difference? The difference is you wasted my time *and* got gear off me that hasn't been shot up. This is hypothetically speaking. I actually haven't been held up before. I would never give someone the opportunity to get pristine loot from me if I could help it.

The day in the life of an utter expert

I like the OP's intentionally haughty, over-the-top douchebag narrative style. Very humorous!

    (Useless post. Please ignore.)

    Extermination (30+ dead?)

...Or a game of flashlight tag that took a turn for the worse?
  18. That would be the Mosin. Yes, welcome to Chernarus. Trust nobody that you can't reach over and physically slap. And sometimes not even them.

    Honest fresh start opinion.

My best advice to you is to lurk the forums more and read everything the devs post. Listen to the interviews, watch the YouTubes. I mean, unless someone here has the time to separately type out all the things that are expected to happen with DayZ... There's plenty of resources already online if you're really curious. Try www.dayzdb.com.

    Laser Pointer

What zombie lore supports this? Cats chase laser pointers because they chase everything (small) that moves. Zombies, on the other hand, do not give chase to things like rabbits and birds. Zombies chase *humans*. Seriously, if there's a single thing about laser pointers written by a noted author of Zombie Fiction, I'd like to see it.

names of the towns and what they mean

Interesting. Most of them are just geographical features instead of proper town names. How very ArmA-like.

The best atmosphere in this game

"I love the night. The day is okay and the sun can be fun but I live to see those rays slip away." -Blue Öyster Cult I like the way you wrote that, OP. I understand what you mean 100%.
  23. Remember that you run a lot faster with your weapon put away. A pursuer is not going to want to put his weapon away. I lost a guy in Elektro once who immediately started attacking me with a crowbar. I had a bat out, but he'd already gotten in a few licks, so I stowed it and started sprinting. I ended up being a good deal faster than him, and after rounding a few corners, I found a bush to crouch in. He quickly lost interest. If you're dealing with someone who has a firearm, the best thing you can do is be a hard target until you can get behind something. Then just keep going.

    Headtorch tweaks

Headtorches should be attachable to headgear, IMO; particularly the ballistic helmet. Or am I just doing something wrong?
  25. .22 and 5.56 caliber rifles have negligible recoil, though, with regard to hurting your tender newbie shoulder. I can see how shotguns might cause this, necessitating painkillers if you're out there blasting away all day. Or, y'know, you could just wrap a couple rags around your buttstock. Not sure this is really a pronounced enough thing to be worth coding into the game. Long guns sure do get heavy if you're toting them around for miles on end, though.
