The point of this game is realism. Realistically can you identify a bad guy walking down the street? No. You can assume, but he doesn't have a sanity or kill indicator. What if somebody killed a guy who was murdering newbies? Would the almighty Zombie god call you a killer? Who makes the determination? What if you kill your buddy who has 2 broken legs and wants to respawn. Will you be labeled a murder for a mercy kill? People are just mad because they want to play Dayz: Friendship instead of what the game really is.

Honor system? Really? Real world survival isn't about hugs and snuggles. I should be able to determine a threat from a distance and kill him without getting some kind of "kill indicator". If I need a piece of gear and someone else has it, I'll take it. Survival of the fittest my friend. If you let somebody get the drop on you, your survival tactics need improving and a death is warranted. You can whine and cry all you want, this is a sandbox game with no objectives. You play however you deem fit. FORCING other players to adhere to being "good guys" is complete bullshit. Go play My Little Pony if you can't handle the game. If a real world apocalypse were to happen, people wouldn't band together like they do in the movies. They would be scared and shoot anyone they determine to be a threat to their life. I AM NOT ADVOCATING KILLING NEWBIES. There are KOS-ers that just murder anybody they see. While they have the right to sport killing, I choose not to. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean they should alter the functionality of the game to appease you. People have the right to make their own decisions in this game without being labeled. When you come across a bandit in real life, does he have a marker above his head? NO! That is the point of survival, make contact with that person and determine for yourself. If you saw a bandit in-game that was marked as such, you would KOS in an instant without talking to him. Now you're the KOS-er. The whole system is stupid and has no place in this game. Go cry elsewhere.

Can't deal with it? I've been dealing with it perfectly fine. At least I tried being the nice guy.. too many people being dicks in return so not risking my life anymore to help the 10% of decent people in the game. It's called survival.

This game is a sandbox. Meant to let people do WHATEVER THEY WANT. Introducing any type of sanity or KOS indicator system is stupid because now you're forcing players to play a certain way. I want to hold a meeting with all the people who want to implement this system, then mow them down and use their tears to clean my rifle.

I refuse to climb ladders or go on any floor higher than first. Rubber banding is a big problem and I have gone through several walls (luckily on the first floor) But yeah.. until this gets fixed, not risking broken legs or death for a can of beans.

Looks like I have the pretty generic "Tac Loadout" I only carry 2 spare mags for the M4 and just reload them when empty. Have ammo tins full of 5.56 and Magnum rounds. Plenty of food, replacement blood, medical supplies, and ammo to allow me to survive for prolonged periods without venturing into towns. Mostly look for open doors, if there are then you know people have been nearby. Avoid that town. I've been alive for just over 6 days and have killed 14 people in that time (none of them bambis, all were armed or swung at me).

Anyone kind enough to share tips on a Mosin
Punkrawks replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Easily accurate up to 1000m I notice that mine shoots a little to the left, so you have to aim right of the target. Don't try to reload while prone, it will make a horrible rattle that is audible to everybody around you. Use Page Up/Page Down to zero. When sniping from a spot, make note of distances to various landmarks (300m to that red building, 600m to that tower.. etc) your best bet is to practice and get a feel for it. -

What are your thoughts on camping snipers at Balota?
Punkrawks replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure if there was a real apocalypse there would be jerks too. I'm just enhancing the realism of the game. Like I said, not everybody will be a carebear and want to hug and snuggle you. Some people just want to watch the world burn, and I just found a box of 68 worn matches... ;) -
Making loot rare is what cultivates killing on sight. When loot is so uncommon, that it becomes faster to just murder other people for their gear, people will always kill>loot. This is a good tactic to keep people from banding together as you are always paranoid of losing your gear to some random person. If loot were more common, it would reduce KOS because people would have fewer reasons to murder for gear that is readily available. It would dull the game, but would reduce the KOS, so it's a tradeoff. If you're going towards the "make loot rare" standpoint, make guns/ammo SO rare that only 2-3 people per map would actually have them. Force players to have melee weapons to survive. That way when you hear a gunshot you know it was for a damn good reason instead of every noob with an M4 popping off rounds at will

Everybody hates a sniper, but when you're geared out and have all the food/water/ammo you want.. the only thing left to do is help newbies, hunt bandits, or kill. Helping newbies carries risk and no reward. You risk your life to give away items. Very helpful and nice, but doing this solo is dangerous. Hunting bandits is very high risk but with high reward (their stuff). I've tried this and died every time, need a group or don't bother. Sniping is low risk but high reward through entertainment (isn't that what games are for?) Yes it's not entertaining to the guy getting shot, but you have to realize that not EVERYBODY will be the kind helpful survivor. In a real apocalypse you will see a diverse number of survivors, each with their own tactics. I'd like to think that I'm teaching people to stay away from military installations. They are dangerous and for good reason. I am forcing people to come up with alternative survival tactics rather than "Run to balota, gear up, pwn face" Like snipers or hate them, we don't care. -
I've noticed a glitch where even when you're healthy your vision is still blurry. To fix this, press esc, open config, press video settings then escape back out to the game. Your vision should be corrected after this.

PvE Server - Killed by a Human
Punkrawks replied to Aurentius Maximus™'s topic in General Discussion
The only way a PvE server would work is if players couldn't inflict damage on other players. Will this ever happen? Maybe a long way down the road.. will it happen in the near future? Nope. Is it tasteless to murder unarmed bambis? Depends on who you ask. In our world view yes, it is. In an apocalyptic world view, it is only a disadvantage to have others around you. They consume resources that you could use, have weapons that could kill you, or they could attract other people due to their noobishness. In Dayz, everything is acceptable. -

Personally? With no other point in the game it's pretty entertaining -
The song is Mischievous Function by Gojimaji-P I was curious too and dug around to find out. Had to pull the audio from this video, upload it to a song recognition website, which gave me the Japanese title so had to google translate that, which led me to the youtube video for it.

I always carry an M4 with at least 100 rounds. I carry a secondary pistol with about 40 rounds. I always have enough food/water to last several days. It's hard enough WITH supplies, I'm not going to become a bum and run around begging for food, only to get a bullet to the head as payment. I will continue holding up bambis and providing them with food. I will continue gunning down anyone holding a gun (as they are assumed to be dangerous, like me)

Reanimating players...is it possible?
Punkrawks replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I thought the defib brought people back to life... apparently not :/ It would be nice to have the option. Say give someone 8 minutes of "death" before "Permanently dead" in those 8 minutes before brain death occurs, you must administer blood and defib. Would just be nice to be able to save a fallen buddy after a firefight. -

An Issue with the New Spawns AKA "The Kamyshovo Massacre"
Punkrawks replied to wgaf's topic in General Discussion
I'm guessing you were the guys I gunned down in Kamyshovo, bodies everywhere and uber geared guys running around. Funny how you act tough in the forums but scramble like roaches when shot at. I took out what... three of you? Lololololol. You looked as helpless as the bambis you murdered. I sincerely hope I run into you guys again. Weakest crew I've ever seen. -
What I don't understand is why people are so obsessed over fps in a game like this? I've played mine with max settings and get 30-50 FPS. Turn all settings to low and I get 50-80fps. Even though I got an FPS jump, I didn't see anything different gameplay-wise. I just saw my graphics turn to crap. If you're getting ~30fps, then stop complaining. This isn't CoD or BF4. You don't need uber fps. You don't see massive fps numbers because this is an older game engine. You don't need them anyway. Stop complaining.

Sounds about right. I'd be surprised if a shot to the chest with a .357 DIDN'T kill someone. Good for you for testing it though, I'd rather find out here than the hard way in-game.

How I optimized DayZ to get a constant 30 FPS while preserving game graphics quality
Punkrawks replied to demine0's topic in General Discussion
This. Super high FPS will not do much for you in this game. It seems like everyone is so obsessed with FPS that they forget what it's for. FPS is only important if you're doing an action intensive game like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Skyrim... etc. For a game like this, it's not super fast paced so you can turn your graphics all the way down for a few (meaningless) frames per second, or you can max them out and have a beautiful game. I've played the game with both settings and they are a 20-30fps difference. Did I see any NOTICEABLE change in performance? Nope. Did I notice the graphics turn to crap? Yes. -
How I optimized DayZ to get a constant 30 FPS while preserving game graphics quality

I'll test OP's settings. My setup: i7 4930k @ 4.3Ghz 16GB 2400 RAM gtx 780 Win7 pro x64 Nvidia driver version 331.93 50fps in open fields, 30fps in cities/forest Settings: Objects: Very High Terrain: Very High Clouds: Very High Shadows: Disabled Vsync: Disabled Antialiasing: Normal Alpha to coverage: Disabled Edge Smoothing: Disabled HDR Quality: Very Low Postprocess quality: High Video Memory: Auto Texture Detail: Very High Texture Filtering: Very High After OP's Settings (followed to the letter): 70-80fps in open areas 50fps in cities... HOWEVER: The game looks like a plastic fake environment. All the config settings that OP changed are just the menu settings, but in text form. All OP did was turn the settings WAY DOWN in order to boost FPS. Here is a side-by-side of OP's settings vs. my default: I DO NOT RECOMMEND CHANGING SETTINGS THROUGH CONFIG FILES!!!!! You're better off to use the menu options and sliders. If you change the config files to an unsupported value, you will get unpredictable results - including rolling crashes with the game. If you like the game looking stale and plastic, trees in the distance look like 2d cutouts, buildings look awful (screenshot really doesn't do it justice, it really affects the mood of the game) Then by all means, use OP settings. You'll get higher fps, but junk graphics. Anything over 24fps is considered "Movie Quality" anyway. This isn't Call of Duty or Battlefield. You don't have the quick spinning ultra-fast gameplay that high FPS requires. This is supposed to be a realistic sandbox survival game. High FPS won't do you any favors here.
