  1. By completing THIS SURVEY you are helping me decide the most favourable path to take with the DayZ Standalone server that I hope to host once the game gets more developed. More information in the link! Your feedback is invaluable! Thanks :D

[Survey] Most favorable DayZ server type

I just figured - since all but "500+ vehicles, Spawn Select, Starter Gear" servers are left on the mod, how many people actually still want to be challenged? :D

[Survey] Most favorable DayZ server type

Hmm, you have a valid point. I probably should have waited. Never-the-less, the feedback that I'm getting is generally what I wanted to hear. Seems as though most people dislike gameplay being too easy, which I was not expecting due to the complete emptiness of said servers on DayZ Mod.

N/E Airfield Antics | Nice people?

They should add this on an update without telling anybody. That would surprise the cheating little bastards ^.^
  5. I don't know what the hell I did wrong, but every time I launch DayZ through DayZ Commander, It just opens up the ARMA 2 OA loading screen (With the tanks next to the barracks) and menu. HOWEVER, if I actually open Operation Arrowhead, it opens DayZ Epoch loading screen and menu, and I have to use the shitty built in browser. Can anybody shed some light onto the situation? Also, DayZ Commander used to run fine but then I chose to play Operation Arrowhead's missions and ever since then it screwed it up. Thanks.

Trouble Launching DayZ Epoch through DayZ Commander

Whoops, well could a mod please move it. Thanks :)
  7. I recently bought ARMA II and OA in the Steam sale a few weeks ago, and have installed EPOCH. I was told this was like the like DayZ Mod on steroids, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how good it really is, and how much more it has to offer! It's really good to come from only playing the standalone and then migrating to this fully fleshed out orgy of guns and base building. I recommend you re-visit the mod (or visit it for the first time) if you are getting a little bored by the (understandable) lack of content or things to do in the Standalone at the moment. Basically, I've run into a few things so far that I hope do not get added to the Standalone and I thought I would post them here to see others' opinions on these things. For the most part, I think DayZ Epoch is amazing and should almost be ported to a full game in its' own right; a mix between DayZ and Rust. *DISCLAIMER* I have only owned EPOCH for ~2 weeks now, so I am not 100% educated on the full mechanics of the game. That also being said, I have only joined about 4 servers during this time, and am basing my EPOCH experience off those. Issues mentioned here may not be present on other servers and I apologize if I have stated false information. Things about Epoch that I don't like and hope do NOT get added to the Standalone. Indestructible items: I think everything should be able to be destroyed one way or another. The fact that you can put all your assets into a safe and then have guaranteed protection makes base raiding boring, as almost everybody has completely abandoned tents and all seem to have safes. Other things like concrete barriers seem a bit OP. I mean, what concrete are you using that wouldn't be destroyed by a satchel charge?!Choosing where to spawn: Why was this even a thing? Why would you rather spawn in, say, Kamyshovo and run 5 minutes to Elektro if you can already spawn in Elektro in the first place. Servers that have spawn points at Balota are kidding themselves too. I think the random spawn mechanic that will hopefully be implemented into the Standalone where you are thrust into a random house at a random village would be so much better. I thought you were supposed to feel lost when spawning in DayZ. Choosing where to spawn is literally the opposite of that.Custom spawn inventories: As much as a like spawning with a gun and just having a full on deathmatch in Elektro, I really don't want the Standalone to veer in that direction. I want the standalone to be much more like a survival game with other players, kind of like how the mod used to be. If you don't have a gun in EPOCH, you're at a serious disadvantage because literally EVERYBODY else does. Friendly system: Being able to 'tag somebody as friendly' removes the whole communication side of things. Whenever my friends and I get into a heated battle in the Standalone, it's a constant conversation of "Okay, I'm moving out the front of the police station now," "Oh dude is that you! Wiggle!" "Dude that's not me" "Should I shoot?" "yeah shoot!", and I think that is one of the most amazing parts about DayZ. You could potentially shoot your own friend without knowing it, and It would be like that in the real world. In Epoch, you tag somebody as friendly, and then if you see anybody else you kill 'em.Locking cars: A lot of you will disagree with me on this one, but EVERY SINGLE car I see on EPOCH has been locked and I am unable to loot it. The way I see it, you should have to HIDE your cars or lock them in your base. If I break into your base, I should be able to steal your car - but as it stands at the moment, I can almost do nothing. Everything is in your safe and your cars are locked. The most I can do is sabotage it. Things about Epoch that I do like and hope get added to the Standalone. Economy: I like the concept of having a universal economy, as apposed to barter (or, I'll 'ave yor rotten' banana for a rotte'n apple) however I think it was WAAY to complex. One form of payment would be better, as apposed to Tin, Gold, 2oz gold, 10oz gold, briefcase... you know... it's very overwhelming to new players and It didn't have to be that complicated. A simple gold currency would work, with a simple car costing around 200 gold or something like that. I also like how this economy is not JUST A NUMBER. It is a REAL item to carry around, and becomes much more important. You have to make room in your inventory to carry your money, and you are able to actually STEAL other peoples' money if you kill them with it.Base Building: This goes without saying. If the standalone doesn't have this, it's seriously missing out on an awesome opportunity. Simply barricading doors and windows isn't EXCITING enough and doesn't feel like you're adding your own footprint to the world around you. Having to rely on houses that have already been built seems lame as the majority of good houses reside inside towns - a popular zone - and so disadvantages the player who wants to live in a remote area. The Log Out Timer: Having to physically stay on that menu (and be rendered un-movable) was quite simply THE BEST method. Screw this instant log out but have your character stay on the server for a minute afterwards. This way I can physically see my player as I am logging out, and if somebody was to start shooting at me, I would be able to move out the way. So there is my list of things I hope do, and don't get added to the Standalone from Epoch. HOPEFULLY, somebody in the development team see's this and will hopefully agree with some of the things I've said, and the same goes for the other DayZ players on this forum. Let me know what you think! Thanks. EDIT: Due to people not liking the economy, I've put a strike through the heading, and we can now disregard that. Future comments should avoid saying "Agree accept for economy" or something along those lines.
  8. Today my group of four IRL mates went on a journey around Trader City Stary to salvage unlocked vehicles and sell them in order to gather enough money to buy ourselves a much needed safe. We had two fully owned cars (we had the keys), one a pink SUV and the other a grey UAZ. The UAZ was the car we used to drive around in, and the SUV was the car we used as storage, back at the place we wanted to build our base. After each successful trade, we brought our measly 2/3 or so gold back to the SUV to ensure that if we died, we would not lose much. This continued for over 7 hours. I went to bed whilst the other 3 stayed up until 3am. The next morning, we Skype'd again, and we still didn't have enough gold to buy a safe. We went on another trip, and to our surprise, an SUV missing 3 wheels - crashed into a tree - was storing 2 briefcases, many medical supplies and a few guns. WE WERE SO HAPPY. Carefully, we drove back to the SUV to dump everything other than the briefcases which we were going to use to buy our safe. All did not go well. Less than 2 kilometers from our base, an armed Vodnick honked its' horn at us. Fuck. We tried zig-zagging, but it was no use; he was shooting. We all scattered out the car in a desperate attempt to salvage whatever we had left with us, but we knew we weren't going to make it. One of my friends - Calvin - and I were trying to retrieve some of the medical supplies from within our car when BANG, it exploded and killed us both. Now only Liam and Micheal remained. Liam had a sniper of some sort, and tried shooting the car, but he was killed shortly after firing the second shot. Our last hope - Micheal - had hidden in the trees. He had a MG36 loaded and ready. The bandits got out of their armed Vodnick, unaware of Micheal. Micheal did his team proud as he took out both bandits without them even knowing were he was. Myself, Calvin and Liam are all cycling back to our base now, and Micheal is buying us a safe as I write this. Suck shit, Bandit ass.

Why Devs should allow early modding

Modding support for the standalone has bren confirmed by Dean at Rezzed for Q4 (I think?). The game is in too messy a state for modders to intetpolate the information right now, but I cannot wait to see what the community do with the game once it is in their hands!

Can the Standalone not be persuaded by EPOCH's bad features?

I'm not sure if you played Epoch, but if you didn't I'll explain the system in more detail. Basically, whenever you wanted to log off, you had to press escape and watch the timer count down from 10 in that menu (the time could always be expanded on for the standalone to, say, 30 seconds). if you clicked off the menu (if you needed to move or anything) the timer would reset, and next time you went into the escape menu it would start again. It also disallowed you to log off if there was a player in your vicinity. Personally, I think it's great, as you sometimes get killed by zombies while you're sitting down (in the standalone) that you hadn't seen prior to logging off, and since they can agro from miles away, I think it's a bit unfair. Being able to PHYSICALLY see your character as you log off kind of gives you that sense of security.

So now that the new netcode made it to stable...

Actually, Rocket has stated somewhere that experimental gets the bare-bones specs for servers and such because if it runs on the poor specs, it's guaranteed to run on the normal server specs. I think it's just because of the location of the servers. Try playing on the ones that say "Multiplay Game Hosting" or whatever, as they are official servers rented by Bohemia.

    Breaking Zombie Bones

Yeh, this would be awesome. It wouldn't be TOO difficult, would it? They already had crawling zombies in the mod, so they know how to do it.

    DayZ SA Mods

Sounds cool. Player spread disease. I guess it would lead to an influx of KoS as you wouldn't want to take the risk of living with somebody. But modding support for the Standalone has been confirmed by Rocket at Rezzed so we can only DREAM of what these fancy coding geniuses' will provide us with. I'm hoping for a hunger games style mod. That would be fucking amazing! I think they already have one for the Mod, but Im not too educated in those fields.

Can the Standalone not be persuaded by EPOCH's bad features?

Yeah okay I agree with you on that point. Capping at wooden structures would be wise, or just make concrete structures take a LONG time to place (maybe?)
  15. Not sure if serious or not. If you had taken the time to read some of the recent change logs, or look at the pinned threads on Reddit (if you swing that way), you would have noticed a great deal of new things that take steps forward. Although I do agree with you that the game has had some backward steps in the new updates, I guess you could argue that's what the Alpha is all about. Steps forward THIS UPDATE ALONE include: 1:1 mouse movement, a god send! New guaranteed messaging network system to reduce de-sync and teleporting and increase speeds for inventory management and item dropping. Physics has been implemented, which will allow for some crazy ass shit later on when it comes to movement, ragdoll, dragging bodies etc... New townsAmong many bug fixes and item additions. You can't really be serious...
  16. I didn't read through your entire post but I did skim it, and from what I gather, you're talking about a majoritively client side game with server synchronization, yeah? Well the reason that most things are server side is so that scripters do not have direct access to the files them-self. Say if zombies were client side; easy. A script could me made for zombies not to spawn on you, or agro to you, because all the mechanics were able to be modified by you. Say if loot spawning was on the client; A script could be made to modify loot cycles and only spawn in high end gear. Sade if base building was entirely client side; scripters could have pre-made structures loaded in there game, and with a click of a button (or a scroll of a wheel, in this case) they may have built the most OP base with literally no confirmation from the server or any materials. See where Im getting at here? The only files we have access to are sounds and textures (I think), and that's because you can't do an awful amount of harm with those in the hands of scripters. Or at least that's how I understand the system...

    Is there any nice people

If you're armed and they're armed, don't just walk up to them and say friendly. Scout them out for a bit, see what they do, and then, from a distance - hidden - ask if they are friendly. Tell them if they do not respond than you will act violently. If they tell you they're friendly, do what ever you please. Trade, team up... whatever. Keep in mind that they may also be lying - but if you had followed them for a bit, you should hopefully see for yourself. If they do not respond, I usually don't hesitate to kill them. When I'm hidden, I'm at the advantage. Disobey my orders and penalties occur. Make sure that they are in hearing distance though.

Where even ARE the bloodbags kept at the moment? And why are saline bags and IV start kits at the fucking airfield?

    Redefine your "Definition of Done"

Well actually, the two have virtually nothing to do with each other. There is a team of people at Bohemia who's objective is to work on new content in one area, and there's another team whos' job is to fix existing content. There's a team that work on modelling and texturing bicycles and there's a team working on optimizing code for smoother game-play and more zombies. The two are 'independent' of each other, in a sense, and therefore release updates of separate things at different times, and are sometimes co-ordinated. Don't worry, not all the firepower is going toward adding new things. An equal amount of power is going into fixing things too. Well, at least, that's what I understand.

This would have been fantastic if you had managed to record it! Such a shame :/ Great story, though :)

New to Online Games, What is Teamspeak?

You can have more than one room on the one Team-Speak server too. So for example, on one server - there may be a room called "Hero-Chat" where Hero's (and those pretending to be) will hang out and discuss things whilst playing, and you might have another room called "Bandit-Chat" where the bandits hang out and talk in numbers. It's also a really good way go get involved with the community, and when private hives get implemented for public use, I'll be finding a server with a good ping and joining their teamspeak to get involved with those who play their regularly.
