Weird Mouse movement DayZ standalone.
MCRoadkill replied to Nibiru (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Turn off your post processing, it will make your mouse and screen a lot more stable! It really helped me a lot. Also turn down the motion blur a bit more, makes it a lot better. -
I also had some problems using stuff and most of the time it has to do with the fact that i'm already 'using' something. Almost looks like lag or something. Or using the can of food multiple times after each other and you get the message in between. I really wish you would have a 'eat all' or 'use all' option.

Either make the draw pistol speed equal or make the military version better than the police version. Military is always better then police issue. But i like the leg strap. I wish you would have a tactical belt where you could hang on two or three items like a police holster, magazine pouches, a med pack, an e-tool, mini-hand axe or machette. You could also include a ww2 pistol holster that goes on a tactical belt, wich has space for a pistol and extra clip.

The things is ATM you can't see the name of the person who killed you and where it came from. (sure I can hit "P" and see the players, but that's all) Is it lame to ask for a servermessages that say playerX killed playerY or even a deathcam so you can find the sneaky sniper in the hill. "What goes around comes around" For all you know PlayerX is killing ppl time after time For it happening once by PlayerX "ok, haha you killed me", but when it's happening again and again by someone, then you're going "you got a 'can of whoop-ass' comming my friend" and you know his name so you can hunt him down (sort of). But then again it has it's pro's and con's @Xandariel Yeah with every idea comes a new problem, it's not easy :) But tonight I'm going to drop my heavy gear, going to travel light and going to tell you guys how it went. Going to try and 'meet' other people see how many times it works and how many times I die. As a social experiment :P But I really think that if you don't look like a threat and look like you don't have anything worth taking, you are a step closer to get less KoS. But still yesterday we had a couple that staked out the balota airfield and kept killing our clan mates even after trying to reason with them, we all logged in closed off the airport and went in to kill them....and guess what, they combat logged!

I know what you mean, that indeed is a completly different experience. I think I mentioned something about using their system against them, setting traps for them, and that is only one quick idea..surely other people can come up with more. But you have a point as to really indentify them, as in RL you don't know who the criminal is untill he commits the act or by using things like 'trap-cars'' Why not have a trading system an active market system where people can gather and scavenge stuff and sell them to others, maybe vendors that players can buy stuff, upgrades off of. etc. No, as it works in EVE for instance is that any player of clan A can attack any player of clan B for a whole day, week, month etc after war has been declared on each other by the clan leaders. But sure you could have or do an old fashioned napoleonic battle :P How would you see this happen? As a sort of capable "flag" or fortress siege? with different lines of defence? Or actual players have to guard the town 24/7?

I don't know, maybe guessing here, but when people play this game as a regular FPS game, I can imagine that people grow tired of the waiting and need a "quicker fix" and go off playing CoD or BF or even UT. But what I meant was, that a group of non-KoS-ers go around the map and hunt down KoSers, to make it unattractive for them to conduct their business on that part map or server. You see the same in other games like EVE Online where you can pick different sides like beeing a pirate or carebear etc. everything has a predator and to have areas (servers) in the game wich are known for something (good or bad) For instance in EVE Online you have a security zone controlled by NPC police. The moment a pirate player destroys a players ship in a security zone the NPC police called Concord will come in and destroy you, if you are in lower security zone any players knows that when they are mining there they can get ganked by pirate players, but in a high security zone pirate player don't do that because they don't want to loose their ship, but there is also a trick around that, but in the end people will find ways to cheat the system. In the end in EVE Online they have some balance and order for the carebears, but the key is to join a clan or coorporation and you would have a system where you could declare war on each other and fight it out. But how could you form a "KoS hunting pack" you ask? Like with everything you hunt...you need bait. Just as they do with the non-KoSers. Dead guy on the floor, some poor smuck goes near it to loot it and BAM your dead because it's a trap of a KoSer, it also works the otherway around. you could have a freshspawn buddy in your group that acts as bait and set a trap ;) I agree with you on the paradoxal dicussion about good intentions gone bad, non-KoSers become KoSers, but it all depends on the purpose. You could see it as a 'righteous' police force in the zombie aftermatch, forcing "out-laws" to behave. Just as we have now...
-
True. Like someone said before, you can make up as many rules and systems as you want but people will try anything to do what they want. Maybe the best thing is to leave it open and maybe see the situation resolves itself because non-hostile teams clean up and hunt the KoSers. In the end we only face each other, the question is what are you going to do (about it). And to bring out my favorite Zombieland quote: "Either nut up or shut up!" @Xandriel each night i'm running around with 16 to 19 year olds in a group, when I come across a player I leave them alone and I encourage the others in the group to do the same, but you always have a rogue in your team that chases after the fresh spawn or someone else and gets himself killed. It's hard to keep them under control because they can get away with it. That doesn't say anything because you also have players that are double that age and act the same, then again i've played with an older guy and we both acted accordingly (no KoS). But some people are just idiots (sorry), there we were in Elektro on the roof of the firestation and all of a suddenly a fresh spawn climbs on the roof and finds us three/four heavily armed guys and what does he do? He brings out his firsts and starts hitting one of us? What's up with that?
-
True, when we play games like CoD or BF we don't have any problems with dying and spawning countless times, but when we have a backpack and hard earned stuff we have a problem with it. Maybe because that comes really close to that you want to protect. Some people kill for fun and some kill for self protection, but it's hard to find out wich one it was, maybe the player got so paranoid and was fed beeing killed he decided to finally do the same in hope he got the person who killed him. Since you don't know the name of the person that killed you, you can't hunt him or take revenge. You can never find out. But when you encounter cool ppl ingame and want to add them to your friendlist in steam and team up, I don't see any options for that. Only if you join a clan you can 'easily' team up
-
True, but don't you think that when there are bases, camps etc. that other people will still try to take stuff from other people by force. Then you would get raids and all that stuff and sure you can defend your camp but you would need 24/7 guard duty or else your camp would be attacked during RL sleep hours or overrun by Z's About the closing doors.. I do the same thing. I get paranoid if i see a leaf blow past the window making me think was that a player? I close the door so I can check if it's opened to see if he is in the building or not.

How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
MCRoadkill replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, like I said, in true basics you don't need a lot of stuff. PPL tend to over hord/hamsters stuff. -

MCRoadkill replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
Not completly true, you could concider this a mini-society world test case. When in the real world something similar would happen (apart from the Z's), people would do the same thing. Look at all the series, movies and in third world countries, people do it because people can eventhough it's not right. If you give people an opertunaty they will take it. It's all we humans ever done since we are around is kill each other (for what they want or just for LOLs). It's easier to be an asshole than to be a good guy.... But yeah, stats and or karma could work level things out, make people think twice before you act. Maybe a bit like in an adventure game where you carefully pick your lines :P -

Well the TS (TopicStarter) has a point. When I was killed on the southwest airfield and spawned at the coast and went for a drink near a pond someone found me and wanted to handcuff and loot me. I said to him I just respawned and really have nothing apart from my flashlight. So your idea gives me an idea, why not cary anything but an axe against zombies. Wear a stupid hat and some dark clothes, maybe not even a backpack and only have a tin openen in your pocket, a bottle of water, a map and a compass....because basicly thats the only thing you really do need. That way on the outside you like you don't have anything worth looting. Because if you're running along in full helmet, gasmask, tac vest and 35 slot backpack you might have something useful. Or hang around the beach and recruit respawns because a respawn doesn't have weapons and if you don't have weapons you can't attack someone (that does big dmg). Then earn their thrust by helping them and so them helping you (hopefully) and form you posse of 'friendly' ppl -
When they implement a reward/penalty system maybe people will start to think about not shooting people on sight and help each other out with food and water and give you a karma status of some sort.
-
I know the tactic and idea, you can carry one, you can find them everywhere when you need more of them but not a backpack full like i've seen some /doh Force feeding someone a rotten kiwi :P

Well it is true, it becomes basic knowlegde. Players will eventually learn how to play the game, they might get shot a couple times doing so...but you learn by doing (i hope) - when you spawn, first prio is to find water and drink up like a fool (I did not get sick yet from drinking water from ponds or pumps, but that surely will come) - don't trust anyone unless he is your RL friend, but even that is no guaranty - if you see an other player try to avoid them, friends of mine have been ganked many times, give them water and food and they kill you afterwards Im sorry for all you friendly players, but eventually you wil become a KoS player because you have been tricked, scammed and killed so many times by other players The game just doesn't leave any other option ATM. - avoid brightly coloured clothes like yellow raincoats, red helmets, white clothes, you only make that mistake once ROFL. so try to wear camo/green/dark clothes - Avoid open fields - Avoid walking on roads, but use them to navigate in the map - Walk in the forrest line for cover - Check your back - Stop now and then and take a moment to check your surroundings, scanning the horizon for players - Avoid using your gun for nothing, so use an axe on a Z - And just like in the series, cities are a deathtrap go in and out - Airfields and Mil Bases are high risk areas, be aware for campers and snipers - make sure you have enough water for long hikes, and food ofcourse - eat food on site, food in your backpack are rations for long hikes, that way you also save space for other stuff - try not to hord stuff or be a hamster, i've seen players carry around the most idiotc stuff like rotten fruit and wooden logs and cooking pots wich take up a lot of space but do nothing. If you have a few bandages you are alright, especially when you are geared up you dont seem to bleed so fast when a Z hits you. Yes even I am running around with half a hospital on my back wich i'm going to dump real soon, all the IV kits, blood bags, seringes etc. - if you come across a med kit or hardened yellow cases take hem, they are a 2 slot bonus, they use up 4 slots in your backpack but have 6 slots and if all fails and you are spotted, run away like a scared little bitch. Run away zig zagging and not in a straight line for those sniper guys. oh and avoid stupid deaths like falling off buildings and rocks, it's a real waste of time to recollect all your stuff. Sorry if this is concidered a double post.

Would love to have cigarettes in game
MCRoadkill replied to Ineedscoffee's topic in General Discussion
Well you do have plenty of books and paper ;) -
Basicly is it possible or realisticly possible for the game to know your health or to have some sort of indicator apart from the grey colour of your screen? Like how much blood you lost and how fast you are bleeding apart from the weird stream or red fluid coming out of my back. Because when i'm near death I can't see myself taking a 100m sprint anymore. You get a zombie bitchslap and you are unconsious, would like to know how much I can take before my body fails. The same goes with the hunger, when will you die from thirst and/or hunger...OK well maybe that should remain a mystery because you don't know in RL as well. Maybe based on your stamina you could last longer. It would be stupid to have a timer..."you're going to die in 3, 2, 1...ugh" :P But a basic indication of health. And if I have lost a lot of blood, I think my char would feel whoozie and unable to maintain his balance. I don't mind I don't have a HUD, no complaints about that. (i've tried searching and get a lot of indirect topics about it)
-
You sure it's not a Star Wars MOD? lol Never noticed the laser beams.....but I hope it will become realistic.

I'm running GTX580 in SLI @ 1920x1080 and I have no problems with FPS. But I do get your point, not everyone has a "high" end PC and it needs to run for mid end PC's as well.

Has anyone tried to start a group of friendlies? to combat KOS players?
MCRoadkill replied to lord3n's topic in General Discussion
Isn't the whole question a bit paradoxal? You wan't to kill the KoS players, yet you become the same thing :? And how are you going to determine who is a KoS player, since you don't know the name of the person that maybe killed you the last time. Or are you going to kill the KoS players to restore balance? But what balance are you looking for? Because killing zombies doesn't get you anywhere, we can not rebuild the world or make our own town and rebuild civilisation. The only thing we have left to kill is each other apart from the Z's what you need to do is form a pack and move together, a solo KoS player will not attack a pack and as a pack you are stronger than a lone wolf. And the only thing you can do then is not fire your weapon on sight, live and let live apart from the Z's For sure, yesterday we had a dedicated medic in our team. It's so cool to move as a group of six. -
[Suggestion] Squad, group or gang member identification
MCRoadkill replied to Tourdion's topic in General Discussion
+1 Good idea, like a clan tag or clan emblem! But I was also thinking of an armband sort of thing. Clan leader can hand them out so you know its the real thing and not faked. Because I don't run forward backwards (if you know what I mean). It needs to be something you need to be able to see up front. Maybe a chest logo or a CLAN jacket like in the 50's :P Now you have to be on TS and ask where everyone is and what he looks like before you getted capped by accident. -
Ok, let's stop flaming him. He got the message... (i hope)

LOL, you wanna walk around as chewie? Or a running bush, I swear if I would saw that run past me I would die from laughing....

It only makes sense to do so (use a scope as a bino, yes even an ACOG)
