  1. It seems as though we are getting our first tastes of preventing combat logging in Standalone. However, what the dev team has proposed for the next experimental branch/planned patch, is NOT beneficial to anyone besides KOS bandits. I'm mostly referring to the change they made with avatars logging out. In the next experimental branch, Rocket said that AFTER you log out your character will sit down and remain in game for 30 seconds. If I misinterpreted this, please disregard this post. This should be the exact opposite, you should have to be able to sit down FOR 30 seconds, in a safe location, BEFORE you can log out. EQ1 used to have the same log out procedure, and it was integral to survival in the end-game. To clear raid mob aggro, you had to zone out, or log out of the zone and character completely. Once you did this, anything you had attacked or was coming after you, would stop doing so. I believe this is what Rocket and Co are trying to set up, however, they're doing it the opposite way. With their current design, you still "need" 30 seconds of safety to effectively log out with no risk. However, with the current system, the 30 seconds you have to "wait" or "need" are AFTER you have any chance to make a decision or put up a fight. Currently, someone could log out in a "safe" area, only to have someone server hop, or just log into their server, right at their location, and kill them, completely defenselessly. If the system were set-up to be closer to the mod version of a log out timer, it would be much better for the players. The current set up benefits bandits and handicaps defenseless players done with their session, in the most extreme disfavor. If the log out system could be changed, so that like EQ1, your character must: F3 and sit, be seated for 30 seconds, and then after 30 seconds of being seated, when pressing ESC and accessing the menu, they will be able to click "Exit/log out". Now!! On the flipside!!! If someone DOES NOT wait and sit for 30 seconds and Alt+F4s, THAT'S when their avatar should stick around for 30+ seconds in game. Now THAT would be a log out system. For players combat logging, in the most textbook definition, they got shot at and know they can't find somewhere to hide to sit down for 30 seconds, so they just Alt+F4; their avatar would instantly stop and be stuck in game for another 30-60 seconds. In all honesty, if someone combat logs like that with Alt+F4, I think it would be a great idea to have their character start making the in-pain noises. That way if they did manage to find a hiding spot, but chose not to take the 30 second chance wait, they would be stuck in game and would be making noise for the pursuing players/zombies to hear and find them. So far everything's been tracking well, and to be honest, this is the first actual developmental aspect of the game that I have seen that I think is going in the wrong direction. The currently proposed log out system will greatly benefit bandits and leave survivors completely defenseless, AFTER they have left the game. If the system were set up to be Sit for 30 seconds, and THEN you can log out, at least then the player would stand a chance to protect themselves if something dangerous presented itself within that 30 second window. With the current system, the player will never have any idea something dangerous came along, because they'll log back in dead. This would also pose issues for reporting random character loss from the database, if people die when they're logged out, they'll have no idea if their character got randomly wiped, or if they died while they were logged out sitting down for 30 seconds. PersonA, we'll call him George. George likes to play DayZ, he doesn't like to combat log, he doesn't like to server hop. When he plays DayZ, he gets on and stays on that server, no matter how many players come or go, or what opposition he faces. When it's time for George to log off, George is done playing DayZ for the day. One day George was cautiously looting a town, when suddenly he heard someone reloading in the next room. George had taken his time coming into the town, had seen Zombies undisturbed and muddling about. He was certain that absolutely no one had been following him, surely this was a combat logger! CombatLoggerA, we'll call him SirDoucheALot, hates playing DayZ legitimately. He combat logs, he server hops at every chance he can get (even with the new server disconnect/reconnect timer). Well SirDoucheALot wasn't originally logging out in this building to kill George, oh no! He was running scared from a group of players he maliciously tried to spring a trap on, after his plan was foiled, he managed to take refuge inside George's house, and furiously logged out as soon as he got inside the room. Why else would he wait? His avatar will be there for 30 seconds after he disconnects whether it's immediately or if he waits any amount of time to see if his pursuers manage to find him, so SirDoucheALot doesn't take any unnecessary chances. He immediately logs out. After waiting the 60 second reconnect server timer, to join a different server, SirDoucheALot is now on George's server, in George's house. George fumbles about and tries to get his gun out, the game bugs out and pulls the 357 magnum out, only to put it away immediately, SirDoucheALot walks in with his gun drawn, and kills George. SirDoucheALot now moves to a position where he thinks A) he will be safe from the group from before or B] he will be able to attack the group more efficiently than his previous attack, and disconnects. SirDoucheALot leaves his meaningless phantom behind on George's server, and waits his possibly up to 5 minutes to reconnect to SirDoucheALot's original server, where the group, that legitimately plays DayZ, is still operating. Now unfortunately for this group, they ran into some Zombie trouble, and had to spend more time in town than they would've liked, knowing that SirDoucheALot's combat logging self could come back any minute now. Though it had been nearly 10 minutes, SirDoucheALot was able to get into a position and ambush the group that had previously thwarted his attack. Now poor George, and the group, have all been killed, due to combat logging and ghosting. All of which, wasn't prevented, from leaving a 30 second avatar behind. Moral of the story is, treating everyone like combat loggers, doesn't change how people combat log. It just treats every player, like our poor friend George here, like a malicious combat logging douchebag, like SirDoucheALot. Don't treat the Georges like the SirDoucheALots. TL;DR - read the bold sections.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

You're a fucking moron if you think there's no need for an auto run key when a group of players are sprinting through off-the-beaten-path areas, and completely out of the way routes, when there's less than a .0001% chance that you'll just HAPPEN to run into other players doing the same exact thing. Please go fuck yourself with a rusty baseball bat. No one is saying we need a fucking auto run key to run 200m into the military base, you utter moron. You're so right man, I mean someone traveling from the east side of the map to the west, along the top 1.5 Km of the map, would CERTAINLY need to be on ABSOLUTE red alert at ALL times. So much danger and reason to be up there, right? Please respond with some absolutely idiotic one liner, because clearly you're incapable of having an actual discussion or providing any foundation for your argument other than "NO YOU'RE DUMB". Bravo.

Glock 18 just out of curiosity

Still doesn't account for how Remington rifles or how a German rifle is readily available in Russia. Germany sent their people here too, eh? Let's send every countries' military to go die instead of containing the infection properly, makes sense. Guns like A glock would make much more sense in this game, the way it's set up and the way it's going, due to their interchangeable parts on the multiple barrel models. Sorry no one can deny that it would be completely badass to have a glock and be able to switch the barrel on it to shoot different ammunition types. If that isn't a survivalist's pistol, I don't know what is.

Glock 18 just out of curiosity

How about you provide some actual information for your absolutely skewed and unfounded provocation? What are you basing this off of? See my post above, you're just talking out of your ass, sorry. Machine pistols, automatic conversions for pistols, pistols and guns of all shapes and sizes, should all be in the game eventually. Why wouldn't they be? Because YOU think they shouldn't? Based on what?

Glock 18 just out of curiosity

Are you serious with this? So when did the FNX45 pistol become standard issue to anyone in the US military? Anyone in NATO? Anyone at all? How did M4s end up in Russia? Because the US army was there? If the US Army was there why the fuck would they have some off pistol from Columbia SC? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individual_weapons_of_the_U.S._Armed_Forces#In_active_service_2 It's so nice how people just post out of their asses on here. If we're talking feasible with the US military somehow being involved in this "canon" you all beat your dicks to, you'd be more inclined to see a M1911, or other 45s.. or.. wait for it... Glocks! No information listed anywhere shows that FNX has ever been a service issued weapon, or its apparent extreme fame and popularity in Russia, and this canon you're all so uppity on. Unfeasible? Nothing in this game is feasible, know why? It's a fucking game.

Yeah you're right, the Canon of AS50s and M107s, Bizon 19s, L85s, you're right. So much rich history to preserve here from the absolute shit mod that we've been dealing with. Will idiots like you please stop posting?

Which makes so much sense and we should just all roll over and accept that right? What a fucking farce.

why do the forums keep going down?

And I don't exactly hear great things about World of Tanks either, every time I've every heard anyone talk about it, it's "something to do". I've never played a game because it was something to do beyond board games, when there's literally nothing else to do. If that's the approach the devs want to take, it will come around to bite them in the ass. If they don't start fixing major issues soon, they're going to see a shit storm. People can keep saying "oh it's just an alpha man you have to give them time", fact is the game's been out for 60 days now, and we still have no respawning AI, AI just not giving a fuck about walls, structures, or anything remotely to do with the game's mechanics other than themselves, and AI pushing people OUT of structures and the environment. No hope on the flashlight because clearly the devs really tested things efficiently and diligently before pushing this shit show out to us, and say it will be "too much work now" to go back and fix the fucking FLASHLIGHT or the buildings to stop the light. How about you just flip the flashlight to be the same type of lightsource as the sun? The buildings and trees, and just about everything else seem to do a pretty fucking good job at stopping light. Why they ever "redesigned" Chernarus, and didn't bother to test one of the biggest aspects of night gameplay, is a complete summation of where this project is headed. Bohemia = The New SOE.

why do the forums keep going down?

No you're right it makes so much sense to create a community forums solely based on the game you're developing and then sit around and respond to an absolute minority portion of them. You and anyone else who gave you beans is a complete idiot. It's okay though, the world needs more burger flippers like you guys.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

I really hope you're not as dumb as you post, or you were failing horribly at a troll attempt. See the next smart guy below you, Actually all that does is toggle your run/walk mode when you're holding down W without tapping it twice. Care to take another stab at it? Making a simple press and depress W script is hardly cheating, it's called being an efficient player when the developers are too pig headed to actually add something that would make the endless hours of running around the map much less tedious, and it's so simple to do. Now I also see why the devs don't bother posting or reading here, you're all a bunch of idiots that have nothing to say other than "IT'S AN ALPHA" or call each other trolls for wanting features that would take about 5 minutes to code, and should have been in the game from the get go.

why do the forums keep going down?

It's truly amazing how rocket and the team completely ignore these forums and yet readily respond to people on twitter and reddit. Why the fuck are we being treated like our opinions don't matter? Why the fuck is rocket too cool to respond and actually post things on the official fucking forums?

    DayZ Gun Review- Blaser B95

Looks good, should be very accurate if it's only going to be two shots per load. Thanks for making the video.

Karma at the airfield! Killing and dying

By the reaction, first kill? And killing a follower! You didn't exactly say anything to him either :P Not a bad video but you should maybe not play with speakers if you're going to do a lot of videos, you had a lot of slapback and phase going on.

I died being forcefed M4A1 magazine rounds...

A glitch? Dude you were forcefed ammunition, I'm pretty sure the ingredients of bullets don't bode well for the human digestion system. I didn't even know this was an option available in game, so kudos to whoever was sick enough to think of trying it. And yes, now you have to start over because you were killed. That's how the game goes. No matter where you spawn in game, getting to the NWAF, sans any of these food flucutations, takes less than an hour. There's plenty of gear along the way, by the time you leave, espeically with the new server hopping prevention, you should be just about where you were.

Server Hopping has become godlike post patch

It's funny how dipshits like you assume that I've ever lost a character to logging out, or ever combat logged. Keep on trollin though.

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

No you're right, everyone is definitely combat logging. No one is whinging here, however we are being involved with the feedback process included in the notice you are also accepting everytime you load Day Z. Care to actually be involved, or are you just going to keep saying "Oh well you were obviously combat logging so you deserved it" like every other "tester" with half a brain?
  18. apollovulcan

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

The point is YOU'RE COMBAT LOGGING YOU DIRTY COMBAT LOGGER. Oh wait...
  19. apollovulcan

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

I don't know but if you all think that allowing players to be completely defenseless so asshats like the guy who "must have killed 30 players thanks to this new feature so far" are an intended result, you've got to be out of your minds if you think that's ever going to work. Yeah let's put in a log out system that allows players to murder another player with absolutely no risk at all, brilliant. With a system where the player actually had to wait 30 seconds before logging out, at least the player attempting the murder on the player logging out wouldn't be able to sit there, RISK FREE, and put one bullet into the head of the other survivor, presumably preserving the quality of the items the logging out player had. Yeah, logic for that log out system = non existant.

Do we want a reward for surviving?

The majority reason anyone KOS is because they're bad at the game, or haven't been playing it long. Anyone who's played Day Z for a long time knows that senselessly hunting and murdering fresh spawns along the coasts is boring as fuck. Anyone's who played also knows that seeing a player running up to you, who has obviously seen you, trying to engage in dialogue, could've killed you three times over already. The KOS gets boring, the map is entirely too big for 40 players, especially when the interactions last 5 seconds as the panicked noob you encountered opens fire and gets killed before they knew what happened.
  21. apollovulcan

Do we want a reward for surviving?

Congratulations on creating the dullest game ever. If players have no reason to interact with one another beyond entertainment before they shoot one another in the back of the head, or to troll each other; this game will be boring as fuck and will remain pointless as it is right now. Sorry but if there's absolutely no threat or reason to kill NPCs, the game will be boring. If there's no skills or professions to actually give characters any customization or characteristics, all other players will be are threats to your survival, so why wouldn't you kill them on sight? Sorry but an upgraded graphics engine isn't going to cut it for 1.3 million people. If they don't seriously increase the depth of this game, it's going to crater hard. Item damage and quality isn't depth, it means absolutely nothing beyond anything above Ruined right now. If someone can't become better at medical procedures and be able to properly fix legs, we're just expected to right click a morphine pen and have fixed legs indefinitely? Until the "morphine wears off" and we have to pop another? Come on, think bigger than that.

Server Hopping has become godlike post patch

It's a good thing that in the same fail swoop they managed to throw every single player into the lot of combat loggers, literally every single time they log out. Enjoy coming back to a new character all of the sudden, without the slightest clue why! Oh wait that's right, it will surely be because you combat logged!!!!

Interesting Details from the Stream [2/7/14]

It's so awesome that the flashlight being fixed is never mentioned, and wasn't on this stream either!!! Clearly they don't give a flying FUCK about the flashlight EVER getting fixed. That's awesome!

Spawning in after safe log out or reset with nothing?

Well let me be the first to say that clearly you were combat logging and did not log out in a safe location. Maybe next time you shouldn't combat log like an <insert explicative here>. .....Right. Now that I've gotten every other douchers' reponse out of the way, I would say it has something to do with the wonky respawn/death/connecting mechanics going on right now. I would venture to say that when the server reset, it somehow set your character to being dead. No idea on the first death, though, Zombies aren't respawning so unless a player logged in right as you logged out, the game probably just glitched out and deleted your character. But hey, we'll never know will we? Because the devs decided an absolutely blind chance of dying every single time you log out, to log back in the next time only to find yourself dead with absolutely no earthly idea why, was the best and only way to fix "combat logging". Brilliant stuff, can't say I'm a fan of this vastly improved logging in/out system.
