    Combat Logging -,-

It's a mechanic that will stay until this next change goes through and after sub-hives get set up. Sorry but that's in no way an intended aspect to the game. Same way Frankie identifies everyone as a bandit, but still claims he isn't one. Everyone that isn't someone you actually know outside of the game, is a bandit in DayZ. Some may not kill you, they may handcuff you and take your stuff, leave you be; some may feed you disinfectant. Others will "take you prisoner" to "not kill you", and then make a game out of letting you go later and trying to kill you. So yeah, everyone's a bandit :P

Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782

My proposed log out procedure: Player must sit down and stay seated for 30 seconds, after being seated for that long, the Exit to Lobby option will be available to them in the menu - If the player decides not to wait for the exit option to become available and disconnects, exits, or closes the game in any way, their character will remain in game, making in-pain noises for 30-60 seconds before disappearing.

    do legs break?

You shouldn't be advising exploits for players to "play" the game, regardless.
  4. There needs to be a leveling system with skills and abilities. Otherwise there will never be a reason to interact with strangers beyond stealing their stuff and killing them, or leaving them to die. Without having something to offer beyond the same items and pixels that spawn literally everywhere around the map, players have absolutely no reason to keep other players alive, or to work with them. This won't change when the number of zombies change, if they start respawning, private vs public hives, # of players per server, none of it. Without some sort of MMO style skill/ability system, the only objective in the game is to survive. Allowing other players to live doesn't factor in well to that equation, certainly keeping an armed and ready player around that you just met is a much bigger risk than it is going to be a reward, right now the only reward would be if you were solo and now had another person to give you medical supplies, that's the ONLY current draw. The game has no room, currently, for anyone to care or any reason to keep another player alive, beyond comical relief.

    Are yer usin alcohol tincture...

You use it to sterilize wounds, like you use disinfectant spray to clean things before using them for medical reasons. Or you're 14 years old, and force feed it to other players, because that certainly takes skill and isn't played out.

    do legs break?

If relogging fixed your broken legs, you need to get on over to the bug report database and file a report. Obviously logging out and logging back in, shouldn't be fixing anyone's legs..

So is this game just about Griefing?

I took a break from the DayZ mod for a few months, probably didn't play after 1.7.6 or .7.7, anyway, the mod has changed a lot, for the worse. The Zombie AI is absolutely shit, the animations are absolutely shit, and now that I've played on Standalone, the graphics too :P But seriously, whatever you do, don't let that give you an impression of what DayZ is supposed to be, or what standalone is going to be like. The zombies in standalone are vastly improved. You go into Elektro or Cherno right now, on an updated mod server, and there are 500 zombies everywhere you look. That wouldn't be such a problem if they weren't all on meth and cracked out of their mind. They all run at full speed, and eventually, they swarm you and get into a broken loop, where they keep alerting other zombies that you're there. If you take refuge in a building, you better have a melee weapon to sit there for the next 20 minutes mindlessly hitting left click to kill the endless train that keeps rolling into your building. Getting ready to swing? Better wait for the zombie to warp around you 210 degrees and start swinging at you, to then end up where you were looking in the first place, and finally hit you. The amount of zombies in the mod wouldn't be such a horribly implemented job, if the AI of them wasn't so horribly broken on the mod.

So is this game just about Griefing?

Right now, yes. Until they add some sort of leveling system, or any resemblance of MMO features, trading, skills, abilities, etc; there is absolutely no point to allow another player to live. All you're doing is giving them a chance to come back, find you, and kill you for your kindness. If you keep them alive and bring them with you, you run the previous risk, and now they're using your resources up. There's absolutely nothing else to the game right now besides moving from town to town for supplies, and finding other players to kill. Running around looting and not ever going where you can assume players are, and avoiding combat at all costs, gets to be very boring. You either go around killing players, or it's Hiking Simulator 2014.

News and Developer Updates from external sources

Wouldn't matter, Max would just lock the thread once players had an actual discussion going.

News and Developer Updates from external sources

No hey it makes so much more sense to have players digging through what will be 5+ pages of single posts in a thread, versus a dev tracker sub-forum which has individual threads per dev update. You've really fucking nailed it, haven't you Max? Whatever you need to do to make yourself feel important Max, until then, I'll keep reporting you for mod abuse. Which is all you're doing. But really though, keep it up, I'm sure you'll earn yourself a big ol' boot off the mod squad at the rate you're at. Please try and close another changelog thread, because I'll make sure your mod status gets blown the fuck away.

    Server Pricing

Which really just makes Rocket, Bohemia, and co. look like a bunch of twats. How they thought this would be a good idea over biting the bullet and spending maybe even 1,000,000 out of the 30,000,000+ they've already made to host their own servers, out of their pocket, is beyond me. Instead they thought it'd be better for us, the playerbase, to foot the bill.
  13. apollovulcan

    Server Pricing

They have no control over what server hosts charge for their servers. Which is why the current set-up for hosting a server is complete bullshit. Hopefully with the upcoming changes players will be able to host their own servers, or at least be able to rent their own dedicated server and host it themselves, instead of through a bullshit third-party who has a complete monopoly on who and how much you can host a DayZ server for.

    Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557

Looks great, thanks for posting this on these forums.
  15. I really do hope they add something to this effect soon/ever. Taking your t-shirt off for rags, or for fun, should net you the lowest "armor" possible, with your undershirt, and having something heavy and thick like a camo jacket or rain jacket, should at least give you more armor and protection than a regular colored short-sleeve t-shirt. So far I haven't noticed any difference, but I'm not exactly too keen on testing it to find out either ;)
  16. Alcohol is useless, right. Well, keep thinking that next to time you and your friend do an IV transfer all willy-nilly and end up getting each other sick and dying from it. Roundboxes are only useful if you actually have more than 4 item slots worth of loose ammo to put in them, other than that it's just another box. Bipods are great for both weapons currently in the game, essential for snipers. Even a damaged optics will give you an advantage over an iron sights, IMO. Silencers are worthless and pure cosmetic right now, but so are bayonets beyond being able to open a can, so take your pick if you already have a can opener. If you're using a mosin, do NOT grab a bayonet unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb XD I prefer to match my camos, but that's just me, I wouldn't turn down a black tactical vest because I was wearing a green camo shirt, though. I personally prefer having the extra 5 slots on a backpack right now, but currently we're just a two man operation, so we need all the space we can get.

    Getting naked

You can strip them. However, our developers aren't freshly minted 18 year olds that want to make Magna Cum LaudeZ. Second Life is still up and kicking though if you really want to go look at virtual bits and pieces.

Curious about peoples 'Rules of Engagement'

These options don't really cover all the scenarios for encountering another player. So, option E. I don't engage another player unless they pose a threat, no matter what the weapon is. If I see you running around with a melee weapon and I tell you not to come any closer, regardless of the reason you just took another step towards me, I'll defend myself accordingly. If I see another player with a gun and they're looting somewhere I'm going after, well, they pose a threat. I'm not going to go leaping into battle, but I'm also not just going to take off in another direction because another player is there.
  19. So you think that all these players that have either A) gotten killed by zombies or a player, such as yourself, who's about to kill them or B) just spawned in from any other reason, are a bigger and badder threat to your survivability, than someone who could actually fight back and defend themselves. Interesting logic, I suppose you think you aren't a bandit, also. You also admit to server hopping so you can "play sniper" and feel like you're actually playing the game, good one. Your signature is also a hoot. You do realize that hackers would just hack the skill system, right? Anyway. The best advice I can give is to put hours into the game, that's the only way you can ever really just sit there and say, "Yeah that looks about right for 400m", dial it in, take a shot, if its way low, bump up the zeroing if you can, if not, adjust your shot accordingly. The more you play, the more you'll get used to making those calls on the fly, the more calls you make on the fly, eventually the better you will get to making educated guesses that turn out to be ballpark estimates. I have some 600+ hours on Arma 2, across everything, after all that, you just get used to what ranges look like.

    Best Places To Find Bandits

Watch most of the youtube videos people have posted. They'll tell you they're just going to rob you and then let you go, or at least let you live and wrestle your way out of the cuffs, and then proceed to force you to drink Disinfectant spray. Oh and then they'll kill you after, or leave you to die from all the spray. Sure there's 3-5% of the population that doesn't kill any or everyone they see, but they're certainly not the majority.

    Best Places To Find Bandits

What a brilliant definition. So basically, to you, any group of players or any individual wielding a gun, is a bandit. You must make a lot of friends.

    Military locations unequilibrated

I spawned near Solichny when I randomly died a couple weeks ago, I made the 8km trek to my friend in about 3 hours, searching and looting cities along the way when I could or needed to. By the time I made it to him, I had an M4A1, couple magazines, mountain backpack, camo, etc. The point of the game is to forage and scrounge for your supplies. Not spawn near a military installation and get to deathmatching. If that's what you're interested in, you can always keep killing yourself until you get spawned somewhere you like. However, I'm hoping they put something in to fix that. Should be pretty simple to put in a "If died in last 2 minutes, make wait additional 60 seconds". A stacking timer so that if you killed yourself 5 times, you'd have to wait 2 minutes, 3 minutes, and 4 minutes, and then 5 minutes the final death, for your respawn.

Before I quit Dayz I have some parting words

I bought DayZ standalone, I don't really know or care what you would like to call it. But I've purchased and own the game, because it's out and available to the public to buy, as a released game. So yeah... Honestly guys, when you buy the newest COD when it first comes out, it's a test version. You can try and argue your way around it all you want, but the fact is that any game put out these days gets heavily updated by the time it has shipped from the factory to distribution centers to your doorstep. And they continue to get updated. People don't actually alpha or beta "test" games anymore, beyond in-house testing. The real alpha was when DayZ was completely in house. The actual beta test was when DayZ was given out to a few people and they started testing with public testers and in house testers together. What we have now, what we all paid $30, is a released game. Sorry, but that's the facts. They have put a disclaimer and call it an Alpha test, but that's not what it is if you really want to get technical about it. It's an extended development period that they're allowing people to purchase and play the game while it's continuing to be developed. Just because they call it an Alpha, doesn't change it for what it is. The game is out, and the updates and fixes they're doing it for so far have been slow, and not much meat to them. I'm not talking shit, I don't think the game is doomed for failure. But regardless of what you think the "phase" of the game is, it's been released for public sale. The updates in relation to the tester response and bug reporting, is not so great.

Before I quit Dayz I have some parting words

Cool. It's called an agenda, they need to make one, and start eliminating things from lists. Yes they want to do a whole list of things, get one one of them working and put it in. Then get the next one in. Honestly it just looks like they're spreading all of their assets out to do it all at once, and aren't getting anything done. The game doesn't need huge updates every month or two, it needs updates weekly. If they aren't fixing things weekly, they need to step it up. Anyone here making the "It's an alpha" argument, fails to realize that their argument doesn't make any sense, because there's never going to be a release date. Arma 3 didn't "release" on Sept. 12, 2013. Arma 3 released as an "Alpha" on March 5, 2013. Just like DayZ released already, on December 16th. You can keep spouting off about this being an alpha, but the fact of the matter is, when they change the absolutely meaningless title to a "Beta", it won't make any difference in my argument. If they're putting out updates in a "Beta" 8 months from now, every 2 months, that would be ridiculous. Just because it's an "Alpha" doesn't mean they should have an entire year of the game being released and available to the public for purchase to get the game in a mostly finished state. Any MMO that ever says it's "finished" is obviously lying, tweaks and updates always need to be made.

Before I quit Dayz I have some parting words

Sorry, but that argument has no logic to it. Just because it's an alpha doesn't mean they should be putting out updates at a snail's pace. Try again.
