TL;DR: please add boomboxes, cassettes, megaphones, and whistles The first time I watched this video of a robbery gone wrong I thought the assailants started basting rap over direct-chat and it continued to play when they died. (Actually it's the victim's companion.) But my first thought was that it added a psychological level of intimidation. The kind of crazy that would likely happen (look up "Blood Diamond Rebels attack" on youtube) and would fit right in with the DayZ-crazy. These items would have a much larger audio range than direct chat. Boombox Requires multiple batteries and a cassette to play music. Could be carried in the riffle slot on the shoulder. It can also be placed in the ground and left on just like flashlights and lanterns which could lure or repel players. Remains playing after player death. Cassette Various songs could be found around Chernarus and played in a Boombox or Vehicle. Audio quality (including lo-fi wobbles etc) could be based on item condition. Bohemia could secure the rights to some Russian, Ukrainian, soviet, songs to paint the scene and use some public domain stuff. Megaphones Ideal for crowd control. Requires batteries. Increases the range of direct chat when in hands and held up. Added feedback and distortion effects. Whistles (sports & emergency) Found in residential, supermarkets, and schools. Audible from a very long range. Useful for executing an ambush or attracting attention. Would be nice if a blow on the whistle was instant on assigned key press so that codes could be used easy. (Three blasts for white-walkers)

Boombox for the win. Imagine being in a building and hearing someone yell "YOU IN THE BUILDING, WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED." followed by this booming through the silence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BulFwGSi8bc Or you are walking down a quite street and suddenly this starts to echo through the town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V92OBNsQgxU&t=14s I think I would utterly panic.

Nothing? I should have put "KoS" in the title. (Jokes. Kind'a)

Yeah it would be easy. Put paper and a pen in a small protector case and leave it somewhere. Provide server IP and directions. Done. (I left an M4 in a barn and gave a stranger directions to it just the other day). The problem is what the OP is talking about. At the moment items are cleaned up every 4 hours when the server resets (Pretty sure but would love clarification on this.)

Not a bad idea really. Valve do this with TF2. Just get dayZ on the steam workshop

Yeah dealing with the situation is the point. ;) As for 25secs, careful players would log out somewhere safe like under a tree in the woods or the top floor of an apparent block. Remember it's more of a survival simulator than a shooter.

@Jaybopper combat log isn't about how bad a shot you are, it ruins the game. What if you want to tie someone up and take their blood, but they just log off? What if you've walked for 2 hours finally see a guy and want to give him a soda but he logs off to avoid KoS?... It's a flaw in the current game mechanics. @Corecomander my idea above would work for alt-f4 or even turning the power off, and it's also not a hindrance to legitimate players.

Yeah you get it. Normally it's not moved at all, you just add your name to the log to say you found it. IRL it's like a hike with an objective. A lot of people like hiking just for the view; to each his own i say.

100% agree, I think your character should sit down or take a knee with the following overlay. 30 seconds until disconnect. ---------progress bar--------- 1) cancel 2) don't watch The overlay means you can monitor your character. The "don't watch" means you can go if you need to but your character continues to sit there until the time is up and would be exactly the same for a force quit or crash.

When / if tents are added as they were in the mod geocaching in some sense would be possible. Someone can correct me but I think in the mod tents/cars remained consistent on the server as long as it was saved by a player every seven days. I'd like the option to half-bury the small protector cases and have them behave the same as tents did in the mod.

Couldn't this be solved by just providing the option for private password protected servers? Then steamers could hand-pick who can and can't play on their server. Most of the bigger streamers who have this issue have enough fans/friends to organize a game with 40 like-minded people. I imagine clans, groups and PVE players would probably want to do this too. So it also doesn't mean that you're investing a large amount of effort into specialty options for a very small percentage of players.

Didn't realise this was a post-your-own topic, started one for my ideas here

Hey all.I saw this guy's UI interpretation and thought I would also share some of my ideas. Firstly I've heard Rocket mention on numerous occasions that he wants a minimal UI -- to the point that he would prefer to not have one at all. -- I think the current UI works very well in that regard. But there are a few functional issues I thought I'd try and address rather than just apply a shooter-style re-skin. Which I think is unnecessary for the soul of this game and counter intuitive to Rocket's minimal goals. Functional issues I think could be addressed with UI.If you miss a physiological message (bottom left messages) you are unlikely to know you're in trouble, especially in first person.Item stats (worn, damp, etc) are a little too easy to overlook because they are hidden behind a tool tip. I do understand that model textures change; but not dramatically enough to see the state of an inventory at a cursory glance. As far as I know there is no easy way to tell if something needs to be disinfected. (Should there be? I guess IRL it would smell bad? This is a hard one.)Health or blood status is difficult to determine using game colour/saturation alone.Item damage repercussions for shooting a player are ambiguous/vague.Overly and emergency icon. Im not sure this needs much explanation. Blood is visible as an overlay when you are bleeding. An icon would appear when you are exhibiting an emergency symptom, indicating that information in the inventory screen is critical. I am by no means attempting to make the game look like COD or some other popcorn game, It's just that the blood overly is immediately evocative. Inventory Introduction of health/blood bar.Added days survived.Health/blood direction indicator (similar to the mod)Listed/pinned symptoms. Order and saturation changes on severity/importance. -- I imaging these could also say "inflamed wounds" and "black vomit" or something vague until you've learnt more medical skills and then it might say ''infection" and "food poisoning". Tool tips could also be used on these for further information or action hints.Added Item condition backgrounds (more info below)changed the typeface to verdana. Any humanist sans-serif would look nicer than the current font that I can only assume was picked to intentionally look like an Alpha.changed the clunky scroll bars to less obtrusive ones.changed frame border colour to be less obtrusive.changed item count to be more visible on white itemschanged percentage used to a progress bar to further differentiate from the item count.changed red X on 'hands' to "remove" and added an arrow indicating that the item will return to your inventory. You're not really closing anything so it shouldn't match the close button or traditional close-button conventions.Removed the item name from the quick-use tool-bar (less UI. Also you should know what it is; you put it there.)Item condition backgrounds. I thought these could be a good way of seeing the condition of your inventory immediately. Even at a quick glance you can see in the inventory image further above that his med-kit is badly damaged. I also think introducing visible bullet damage would be an immediate indication that shooting someone (regardless of reason) has repercussions. I can imagine looking at someone's body I just riddled with bullets and seeing nearly everything smashed up, knowing it was me and not just his crap loot. Lastly if someone's inventory was pristine it would truly look pristine! This is not a job application, these are just ideas and feedback. Would love your opinions but keep it classy and constructive. ;)
