psychological effects of banditry
Jaybopper replied to SpetsnazGRU (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah you can't punish any particular play style.. and to argue that this humanity mechanic is "realistic" well no, it's not IMO It's an artificial thing that is happening to my character that, to me, is just a fucking major inconvenience. Think about it. We put in realistic aspects like only being able to hear and speak to people who are near us, maybe they plead for their virtual little lives while you point a gun at them.. all of a sudden the guilt is real, you feel it, not your character. My vote would be for more things to make us as players suffer the psychological ramifications of murder... like when you kill someone maybe your character says something to themselves like "I hope no one was depending on them" or maybe you find random letters in people's pockets sent from loved ones, asking for their help, grandma took a turn for the worst but shes not dead.. well.. not really.. she attacked a doctor and had to be restrained.. they say shes started to... decay... Sorry started rambling there and actually don't really like those previous two examples but I hope I made my point! Find ways to make the players feel like they are in the game world.. That's what DayZ strives for isn't it? -
Total fuckin brainwave. Probably happens me once every 1000 trips to the toilet. you ready? Here it comes... I got shot the other day from afar, don't worry I survived but my vision is all blurry and shit. I started wondering what was wrong with me and, more importantly, how can I fix it? Since I did not know the answers to these questions my first, and blasphemous, thought was to Google it or search for answers in the forums, UTTERLY breaking immersion!! I mean if I don't know the answer my character sure as hell doesn't know the answer! Now then, far be it from me to break immersion once I am so blissfully enthralled by it so, wouldn't be wonderful if I could find a book among the many many useless books in the world that would educate me and my character on certain matters. That way I wouldn't have to break immersion and could stop my character from dying a slow, painful and undignified death. Medical books Carpentry books Engineering books Farming books etc. etc. etc. All for those of us who don't want to break immersion by Googling stuff! I know, I am amazing... The books should just offer information. Like how to treat a gunshot would but nothing like "press F while...blah...blah.." because that breaks immersion... It occurs to me at this point that this has probably already been conceived and is in the works but fuck it it's such a good idea I have to make sure!! TLDR: Books that offer information about how to play the game in truly immersive fashion. Like medical books that offer information on treating the various different medical conditions you can suffer in game.

Zombies hits = Bleeding (almost everytime)
Jaybopper replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
The attack animation is not what the zombie is actually doing. I would think of it as a place-holder or signal for a zombie attack. It's better than the zombie running up to you and then words appearing in the bottom left of the screen saying "Zombie claws and bites at you". Even though they're not doing something that visually looks like they would make you bleed just pretend that they are..maybe the animation will improve.. As for the bleed chance it is definitely reduced once you have some protective gear. Just today I was getting attacked by an invisible zombie and stood still for a bit while trying to kill the bugger. I got hit at least three times but didn't bleed.. I had tactical helmet, tactical vest etc... -
The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.
Jaybopper replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Isn't this basically removing content as a way of dealing with issues with said content..? The class system is just... unrealistic and it ruins it a bit for me personally.. The game as it starts right now is perfect. Customize your character if you want change their gender and whatever but otherwise you are just some person in a zombie apocalypse, good luck.. Beautiful :) -
No I strongly disagree with the idea that each new character would have to read the book to know how to do stuff and be able to perform certain actions. A. You prevent people from attempting things without prior knowledge which spares them the consequences of doing something wrong or the satisfaction of fluking it! B. Each time you started a new character you would have a repetitive, mundane to-do list as long as your arm of things to get that character up and running.

My two cents! First off love the post, definitely a lot of stuff there that are exactly what I envisioned DayZ to be about. I want to say something about skills as they have been mentioned here. I started a post recently about the books in the game and how they should be our go-to source for information about treating medical conditions. This easily extends to your ideas on vehicle maintenance. The point being that we avoid breaking immersion by getting how-to information in game rather then alt-tabbing and using Google. In relation to this the idea is floating around that each new character would need to obtain the knowledge. In other words each time you started a new character, that character would not be able to treat medical conditions or repair/pilot vehicles until they had read the necessary books. I very much want to voice my opposition to this! Since we cannot erase our own knowledge about the game, all that happens here is you have an extensive and mundane to-do list each time you start a new character. For example: 1. Take off shirt 2. Tear into rags 3. Place battery in torch 4. Find medical book and read it 5. Find vehicle repair book and read it This is just shit and boring let's be honest you'd get to the end of the list, possibly taking you a good hour if you're lucky and then get shot and have to start all over again. Dunno about you guys but I'd fuckin uninstall. Something else I'd like to see the OP address is something I have kind of brought up here and it was mentioned by Ken Bean (and possibly others I don't mean to be ignorant). The ideas here are great but without a map that's maybe ten times bigger than the current map, I feel that are not suited to an MMO. As Ken Bean said: -
I voted but would just like to voice concerns. Please let's not lose sight of what this game is all about.. This isn't CoD..
-
The point is that Googling that stuff breaks immersion. I would much rather stay in game and find that information in a book in game... @twinturbonet Great minds ;)
-
Ah but then you would spare people the consequences of trying to fluke something and making a mess of it!
-
I think that what captainvette2112 is trying to tell us is that when you loot a FNX45 from another player that it won't work..
-
Does player dupe mean loot it from another player?? Oh and my vote would be on the condition of the magazine. You can see in the screenshot it's badly damaged. I can tell you as an ex-army that'll definitely prevent the weapon from firing!
-
This is exactly why when players come up to me shouting at me to put my hands up and go prone yada yada yada I start throwin fists. I'd much rather die on my feet than live on my knees!

It pisses me off so much when someone gets called an insensitive monster because they spoke the truth and were realistic about something. Some people just can't handle the truth! -
First they will fix server-hopping and combat-logging. Then the base-building will begin! (I'm guessing)
-
This doesn't feel like DayZ though.. If you want that craic then you can always play Left4Dead...

Stopped reading after this post. This guy for president. -
So I was looking for some nice loot today and got in a little tussel with this chick with blood all over her face. She kept screeching at me horribly I think she was on drugs or something, her eyes were all bloodshot. Anyway I beat the livin piss out of her but she got me pretty good and I was bleeding heavily from my abdomin. I Retreated into a nearby house where I found a table covered in a table cloth and I thought to myself.. wow.. would be nice to be able to stop myself from bleeding to death using that table cloth... Of course I could maybe also have used pillow cases.. bed sheets.. duvet covers.. etc. etc. etc. TLDR: Open every door! Utilize every item! Need a weapon? Grab some glass from that broken window, slap a chair off the ground and walk away with the leg!
