    Moving and Takedowns

Hi guys! First! So the movement in the game is a pain in the ass. We are aiming for realism and I love that but it is harder for me to move in game than it is to move in real life. For example in real life I don't need to stop dead for a whole second to physically and/or emotionally prepare myself to sprint. FFS why don't we have the characters stretching out those hammies maybe doing a few lunges first. I don't care how many of those ugly bastards are trying to eat me I'm gonna limber up! I actually think that fluid motion like frickin Half Life is closer to a persons actual ability than DayZ. Second! Does anyone else like the idea of takedowns similar to those in FarCry 3? Now don't get excited I'm not talking about taking down a squad of tightly grouped players just by hitting the correct sequence of buttons. In fact I'll leave the takedowns of players up for debate. I'm talking about going up to a zombie and performing a takedown animation or cinematic or whatever you'd call it. You know, *axe goes in the head zombie goes down, character has to pull axe out of zombie head* or *use sword to cut off zombies legs, finish with decapitation* Now I have considered the frustration of not being able to act while this spectacular, blood-splattering, gorerotica takes place and to that I suggest like an action button or whatever. So these takedowns only occur if you attack while holding down a button.. fuckin genius I know So these "takedowns" obviously not ideal for fighting hordes of zombies but perfectly suited for that last zombie or that lonely zombie with their back turned.. It would make us feel bad-ass :)

    Just a bump :)

    More than 1 Character?

No way man.. the thrill of the firefight would be eradicated! At the moment that thrill comes from knowing that if you die.. you're dead.

    Farts (serious discussion)

Yeah but I bet for the first time they'd forget to loot first, then discover that all the loot was.. shall we say.. ruined? :) There was a post recently about people leaving blood trails when they were bleeding.. what does this mean for people with dysentery? :) On a serious note I'd like to agree, in part, with Furtherado. I'd like to think that in a life or death situation I'd be able to hold in a fart! I don't think that letting a silent one out, however, is always possible. If anything the player should have a 50/50 chance of success when attempting this. Also, with the current rate at which characters eat and drink (like a million items a minute..), if you were to realistically align their bowel movements, there'd just be shit and piss all over the world. You would have to walk everywhere for fear of slipping..

Do you agree with modding in SA?

I'm gonna say yes to modding because of the simple fact that DayZ was a mod before it was a standalone. Remembering roots and all that :) And I guess if you think the game would be better played a certain way then you can make a mod and let people try it out. If they like it they can play your modded version of the game, if they don't they can play the vanilla. Potentially all the suggestions on the forums would come to life (without using the devs valuable time) and we could try them out. Anything that people really vibed with could be incorporated into the vanilla. If what I say makes no sense please let me know, I've don't know the first thing about modding!

For those complaining about development pace

When I first heard about this game I watched a video of people playing the mod and fell in love! Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the money to play... Then the standalone was announced I decided to wait for that to be released instead of diving into the mod as soon as I had the funds. Figured the experience of the standalone would be better since, as a mod, I assume you are restricted by what the game you are modding allows you to do. That's not a fact, that was my assumption at the time... Anyway I have been waiting for this game ever since (maybe like... 1 and a half to 2 years?) and I would much rather wait another 2, 3, 4 years for this game and have it be everything It promises to be than have it rushed to release and be just another zombie FPS.

Solving Both End-Game/Meta-Game and KoS Problems At Once

Just want to explain myself a bit. This is true but think about it, you only get out of this game what you put into it. If you spawn and think you're playing Left4Dead or FarCry3 you're going to get very bored very fast. The game can offer you excellent visual and audible stimulus but if you can't be bothered with it you're not going to enjoy it, thus you have to put yourself in your character's shoes. Allow yourself to be taken in. This is the role play I'm referring to. As far as PvE goes, wouldn't you consider EVERYTHING that isn't killing other players to be PvE? PvE is Player Vs. Environment. Isn't scavenging for food so you don't starve PvE? Keeping hydrated, navigating the landscape, treating sustained injuries, restoring vehicles, building bases and of course, killing zombies. If I wanted to play Left4Dead I'd play Left4Dead but when I think of PvE I don't think of Left4Dead. At least not in the context of DayZ. I'm looking for the immersive, story telling experience DayZ promises to be. I like this. Just not being able to move as quickly or being able to sprint only in short bursts due to the load you are carrying is a must implement IMO.

Solving Both End-Game/Meta-Game and KoS Problems At Once

KoS is prevalent at the moment because there is no other thrill in the game that matches PvP, NOT just because of a lack of other things to do! Adding re-spawning loot, base building and car maintenance and all sorts of shit to do isn't going to balance KoS but ideas like the OP will!! If you want to encourage RP-PvE and cooperative play then you need to make these things just as thrilling as PvP. The ideas in the OP, IMO, would accomplish that.

Solving Both End-Game/Meta-Game and KoS Problems At Once

    I.... I think I love you...
  11. I understand that but you notice the other comments in the thread from people saying how they've never really suffered from any of these conditions after using certain firearms. My point is that every time something happens to your character and you think to yourself "that would never happen me in real life" you disconnect the player from their character, sucking them right out of immersion. That's bad.. Now I know you might think well some people will try to jump their character off a cliff, break a leg in game and say "that would never happen me in real life" but forget about that bullshit. What you are proposing here can logically be argued against by some people who it actually would not happen to in real life. So where does that leave you if you still want this mechanic in the game? As I said, skills. You increase you character's ability to hold, fire, maintain a firearm. As I said though this skill grinding is tedious crap that ruins immersion.

    Suggestions for the defibrillator

I don't like this, and here's why: In my mind someone who has fallen ill enough (meaning fair fucked and about to stop existing, I'm not talking about the flu here!) to require the use of a defibrillator to survive only survives. As far as I'm concerned the player would then need constant medical attention for at least half a day (it is a game after all) before they could even walk... No matter what the situation, if you require a defibrillator to prevent your death but then jump straight up and start walking around I'll fuckin uninstall. I think we're onto something here though:
  13. Again we're touching on the subject of "How good is my character at something?" and "How do I make them better at it?" and finally "Does skilling up each new character bore me to tears?". I think the point is to make the game simulate as much as possible and let the players bring their individual levels of skill to the game. Maybe some of the mechanics in OP will be brought in to help said simulation but personally I wouldn't like to see them very much at all since they ruin immersion. Let me ask ye this; what about adrenaline? Can't you argue that adrenaline would negate these debuffs? How does the game detect when you would have released adrenaline? See this is what happens when you start talking about "realistic" game mechanics, IMO they are un-realistic to implement. Much better to focus on immersion. And let's face it, you can't argue for these shoulder and forearm pains to be implemented without calling for adrenaline to be implemented. Love this, just love it.
  14. When I think of character progression I think of grinding. Grinding my fire making skill to 100 so I can make a fire in 2 seconds and without suffering 3rd degree burns. If you put skills into DayZ how does one increase them? Whatever the answer is, it is repetition. Boring, un-immersive repetition and then when you die you start all over again. I say let the players themselves evolve and become better medics, mechanics, weapon experts etc. I'm less likely to shoot someone on sight if I think they might know how to treat my gunshot wound or fix my rifle. I am also of course less likely to shoot on sight if I know I need to get into that hospital and it's gonna be hell without someone watching my back. Both of these things give realistic value to a person's life. Dietary requirements/optimization. Again this knowledge should lie with each player, not their character. Your character is you. They are as good at/as knowledgeable about something as you are. This makes for good immersion I think. Players can impart knowledge on each other, laying the foundations for communities. Again adding value to people's lives. We talk about this humanity mechanic all the time now and again it is just un-immersive (Google came up dry with the actual word I'm looking for here so I made up "un-immersive"... apparently..). A penalty for killing someone. You mentioned that a necessary kill would have no negative ramifications. How does the game know whether the kill/murder was necessary? Unless we are dealing with an NPC the game won't be able to referee murder accurately enough. The bottom line here is things that affect my character but not me are un-immersive. They disconnect me completely and make me very aware that I am playing a game. I believe what DayZ is trying to achieve (and the reason I am so passionate about the game) is an immersive experience like no other. It occurs to me that a critical factor of this is roleplay. The more we roleplay the more immersive the game becomes. We obviously can't force people to roleplay but trying to do so by putting in things like sanity and character progression will pull DayZ away from it's primary goal. If indeed I have that goal correct... EDIT: Love the facial hair and scars idea

Login needs improving, big time, I agree but I dunno about the immortal login thing..

    Spawn immortal time

That's a pain in the balls alright.. I dunno if this is something we should be worrying about though.. I mean if you had immortal timer what then? They would have just camped you until it ended, then shot you.. If it lasted too long then you'd have an unfair advantage over them. To put it harshly; a problem with your internet isn't a problem with the game.. Just sucks and is unfortunate..

    "It's an alpha."

Ah come one now. How am I supposed to feel better than other people if I don't mindlessly say things like "Shut up noob it's just an alpha omg L2P". It's my only outlet man.. You want me to get those beans by coming up with constructive things to say? Like use my brain and shit? Pfffft... just a forum man.. Learn to forum!! Nab! *smells own fart*

    Lost it all!

I see some servers have a warning saying that your character will be reset.. Is this actually a thing? Are there servers that can force you to start over?
  23. Jaybopper

25 sec wait before u can exit!!!

Ok I see the point is to encourage people to stay logged in and play the damn game.. yeah that makes sense alright... Is 25 seconds necessary? I mean wouldn't standing idle for even 10 seconds be petrifying enough to make you want to stay logged in and deal with a situation rather than logging out?
  24. Jaybopper

25 sec wait before u can exit!!!

I'm sorry but this delayed logout bullshit only benefits bandits. If you wanna be guaranteed a kill then shoot straight or aim at zombies... Next thing that would happen if this was implemented is bandit victims will come on the forums and demand a radar displaying players who have exhibited hostile behaviour towards other players or something to protect them against bandit attacks that replaces the insta-logout. Next we split servers into PvE and PvP with lifetime bans for people who take the piss. Were does the madness end!? I don't agree with it.. if someone logs out while you are trying to kill them, tough shit IMO.. The only argument for this logout delay to be implemented is if the bandit play style is completely unfeasible because of insta-logouts. So long as you can one shot kill someone I don't think the bandit play style is affected enough to warrant the logout delay.
