Not quite. There are some changes in the engine at it's lowest level, but for the most part it seems to be a hybrid of ArmAII/II and ToH features. I think most of the changes were to the networking code and to bring the hive stuff into the engine itself, rather than scripted as in the mod. As an example, If you add the DayZ data files to ArmA III as an add-on, the map appears to be pretty much playable, and the items seem to be pretty much intact as well. The player models, however, are screwed, but take them out and use standard ArmA III models and you're good to go. I may or may not have actually tried this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBp6t2ViE_I or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxabdkU3SLg

If it follows the same structure as the ArmA games (and there is no reason it shouldn't) then the in-game editor is used only for creating 'missions' in those games. The availible tool suites allow for the creation of content (Buildings, objects, maps, etc.). You'd also have to be v. heavily into the scripting side of things to get everything perfect, but it is do-able. At its very core (the changes to the RV engine not withstanding), the core game in DayZ is very similar to the existing DayZmod on the ArmA II engine. I'm not stretching out my neck too far to say that anything you can imagine doing in the DayZmod can be done in DayZ.

Umm... DayZ is using tried and true tech from the ArmA games. Yes they are doing a few things differently, but these are pretty minor in the scheme of things. And we already have a full suite of tools and utilities for almost everything in ArmA I/II/II & ToH. I'd be surprised if there weren't a few people like me who were already having a look 'under the hood' of DayZ to see what goes where and what can be tweaked. There probably won't be anybody poking their heads up atm with mods yet, but once we get the promised private servers, there will be a flood of them. And for those saying that this is not going to happen: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ This especially: Rocket - "Eventually, we would like to see these different communities on their own db running their own variations of DayZ to meet specific communities needs."

Walking speed is way too fast as it is. Hell, sprinting at 24 km/h indefinately is so OTT. Crank those back, I say. Take a day to walk across the map. At least that's one day you're not dead! And you want cars! Next you'll want helicoptors and jets! And then it's only a small step to teleports between fat loot spawns! Might as well since WOW has them, right? ;-) The only major flaw in this game (and the mod as well) is the fact you can loot gear on one server and transport it to another to be used. Kill that and then we're all on the same battlefield with the server jumping, combat logging, ghosting, PvP sons of ... Opps. Sorry, almost headed into full rant mode there.

Go to your /Documents folder and delete the 'DayZ' and 'DayZ Other Profiles' folders. This will clear out any bad settings in either the game settings or characters saved data. This won't touch any game critical stuff (that's all in your Steam directories), but the game will recreate these things on next start as if running the game for the first time. Definately sounds like a settings issue. Delete the two mentioned folders and let the game rebuild them. You'll have to readjust all your settings again if you are using anything except default. [NOTE: For everyone, since your inventory is stored in the hive, you won't lose anything by deleting these folders.]

Already implemented: If you don't see any Z's at the airfield, it means that players have already been through there. And they ain't gonna leave you any fat loots now, are they?

Combat logging, Ghosting and Server hopping...
djporternz replied to overdosed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
All of the suggested fixes have a major flaw: the server is going to have to spend some amount of time checking/logging timers for every login/out attempt. Easiest fix by far is to have a character/inventory locked to a server. You can still play on other servers, but inventory is local to that server. This would negate every one of the problems except combat logging. You fix that by giving us a few PvE enforced servers. TBH I've never understood the game mechanic that allows a player to hop servers looting the same location on each server and thinking that this isn't an exploit. It's why I don't PvP. No point when all of the opponents, almost without exception, and max geared by hopping servers at NWAF of the Military camps. -

Hive System - People are already server hopping
djporternz replied to mercules's topic in General Discussion
Any system that allows you to loot on one server and hump it onto another is going to be exploited. It won't matter what system you put in place, if you can transport gear across servers you're pretty much screwed. Roll on private servers. (Yesterday will be fine, Rocket! No pressure ;-) ) -
Hive System - People are already server hopping

No... Just NO! PROS: Simplistic and easy to implement. CONS: Simplistic and 99/100 times will be false positives. -
Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
djporternz replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
They were honest. They told me not to buy this game. They said it was broken. They actually promised me that they would break the game on a regular basis without warning and this would see my player character decimated on an almost daily basis. They hinted at the fact that this game could destroy my computer, my family, and bring economic ruin to great swaths of the known universe. And they wanted me to pay for all this with hard earned cash that had taken me years of hard labour to accrue. This from the company that had just seen the ArmA 3 game go through the same alpha/beta/release cycle over the past year or so to such an earth-shattering complete and utter failure. It's enough to make you want to do that thing at the end of the trailor that YouTube thinks you're to sensitive to be allowed to watch. All I can say is: HELL, YEAH! [Note: Some of the statements above may or may not be gross hyperbole. Which statements is left as an exercise for the reader. Also I have resorted to outright lies and sarcasm, for which I'll be eternally ashamed. {Hint: Universal economic ruin won't actually occur, and ArmA 3 wasn't a failure.}] Seriously, I'm almost half a century old and have spent most of my gaming dollars on prepackaged boxes from industry behemoths that could care less about the games I want to actually play, rather than iterating another weak offering of a slightly tweaked version of last years big seller. For once in my life I'm able to actually get in on a game from a company and dev team that actually wants to hear what I want in the game I want to play. Now I'm realistic enough to know that not everything I say has any value by itself, but they ARE asking for my input. For that priviledge I'm willing to put up with the bugs and minor catastrophes that come with this process. I know full well what I'm getting into. I'm willing to support the dev team in this process as it's the closest I'll ever come to actually writing a computer game of any kind. The fact they are asking for payment for the release game now, while only offering an alpha version doesn't have any real bearing on the matter. Pay now to play now, or pay (more) later to play later. Make your choice. I made mine and I'm having the time of my life. -
Is there already some list of items in game? And stuff u can craft?
djporternz replied to ValterZz's topic in General Discussion
Likewise. I'm assuming they can be used as improvised bandages, and what else... I haven't been able to find any info on anything else, crafting-wise. -
Not a tent, they can be seen. I want to be able to use the shovel to dig a hole in the ground. Bury the stuff in a proper cache, and hope like hell I can remember where I put it :-) But back on topic, I'm just starting out to see what can be done with the crafting system. Most useful thing I've found so far is 'rags'. Kept me alive after doing so many stupid things.

Drink once and and start drinking. Have hard stops at the point 'Thirst' goes away, and when fully quenched. Movement before this simply activates 'Action Canceled' mechanic. ATM, hitting 'Drink from...' action 15 to 20 times really breaks immersion. Combat logging is not that big a deal. Your suggestion probably goes too far in making a mechanic that becomes exploitable by the 'other' other party. Simply spray a crap load of bullets at a lot of people in the hope that enough of them Combat Log to justify the ammo expenditure. Differentiating between the different ways in which a connection could be lost would require a lot of work and you still wouldn't be able to differentiate between deliberate action and Act-of-God. A much simpler way would be to have a general 10~15 sec delay when logging out. If player cannot perform any action in this time and there is some visual cue to their action, this would stop most of the most grevious uses of Combat Logging. The delay shouldn't have much of an impact on your general logging as you'd be doing this in a reletively safe location with a view to re-logging back in. Of course, this becomes a non-issue when we are allowed to actually have private servers and play with our own friends who are there to play the game and not game the play!
