HAHAHAHA Oh geez, look who's playing:

In all honesty, it's the only way he's going to get any ammo 'on target'!

HAHAHAHA Oh geez, look who's playing:

His weapon... I'd shoot him for his flashlight! No need to let him even get to the first building. It is not surprising that when watching his videos I see everything I could possibly detest about a DayZ player!
  3. Watched the video and honestly don't see what you're complaining about. I for one play the game to actually, you know, play the game. As soon as that 'You are dead' message pops up, I'm going to respawn so as I can, you know, play the game. The fact that I can only be in one place on a server at one time, which means that my corspe and gear dissapear when I respawn is completely out of my hands. There are multiple feedback posts describing the problem and I'd guess that the devs will get to it when they get to it. TBH, I'm more worried about the ability of these players to server jump and harvest loot without penalty. Simply sitting in a military base and server jumping until you have all the good gear hardly shows any skill on the part of the player whatsoever.

Just sit down and rest awhile...

Sorry, Korsbeak. It took another 30 minutes before the disk of the sun popped up over the hills there. I did think of posting the entire video, but TBH, that was the most interesting bit (if you discount the mauling I took from the 4 Zs at the base of the tower when I climbed down!)

Did I do the right thing?

@FrankieG To be fair, he didn'y say he was server hoping, just that he lucked in on finding an untouched area on spawn. Sounds like a v. lucky respawn is all. @superFluidity The guy jumped you. What can I say. You were tooled up, but this guy comes charging in also tooled up, and he probably wasn't going to give you an easy out. Now if he was coming legit from across the airfield, then you can still manage a graceful exit. But he jumped you. Better safe than sorry.

What is up with the pros killing the noobie

Fully agree. The real pros are out playing the game. They don't have anything to prove.

alpha purchase vs finished product purchase

Jump in now, bugs and all! It can be frustrating at times, especially after 4 hours work disappears into nothing. But at least by the time the full release hits, you'll have a good idea of where everything is and how to use all of the toys you'll find scattered about the place. It also helps to have someone to play with. Solo play can get very repeatative very quickly. This game is really made by the people you actively play with.

So... now what? (The DayZ Paradox)

Been getting that a lot, too. 9/10 times it just happens to be the (stupid) forced server reset that a lot of servers seem to be using...

    Possible FPS Enhancer

Congrats on the OC success. Currently running my 3.6 GHz AMD FX-8150 at 4.1 GHz. Can push it to 4.2 on a cold day! And yes, the biggest impact seems to come from servers. More specifically, to the player with the highest ping connected to the server. This has been a problem with all of the ArmA series of games.

    Two ideas (for science)

That's all fine and good, but you ain't gettin any of these here pumpkins, mate. Mind you, when I turn these into pies and you turn up with a few bottles of cider... then we may need to do some talkin...

Hacking I'm F^&king tired of it.

ESP hacks. Simple file check would eliminate those. Just need them to turn that stuff on by default. Probably some sort of server load issue with it tho.

Hacking I'm F^&king tired of it.

Never atribute to a hack that which can be accounted for by remembering DAYZ IS STILL IN ALPHA. They have a big sign on Steam that says not to buy this game. Rocket has said not to buy this game, yet. There's that big shiny message that you have to click through each time you launch this game that says this game will stuff you up every which way it can. Yeah, there is a hack floating around out there, but its very limited in what it can do and I'm sure Rocket and the team will plug any holes it shows up when they get back to work.

    TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC

Seems to be the way of it ATM. Servers are checking IP address and only allowing connection of one client per address. Only work around that I've been able to use is to have one client 'hijack' the neighbours wifi connection (with their permission, of course!). Otherwise it's one client, one server. They need to fix this ASAP.
  14. Three words: Server locked Inventory Play on any server you want, but have the inventory saved only for that specific server. See. All of the listed problems have gone away. Okay, ghosting (not listed above) could still be an issue! And it won't do much for spawn campers. But if you log off in the middle of NWAF, can the head shot on spawn really be unexpected! I've never understood the idea of being able to jump between servers and take your inventory with you, and have never seen it used in anything other than exploitive ways.

    The DLC disscusion

And I bought every single one of them. Mind you, their DLC added new equipment and a single-player campaign in each one. Both of which won't fit into the basic premise of DayZ. DLC for equipment seems too much like pay-to-win which I hope Rocket won't want to head towards, and single-player campaigns just won't fly in a multi-player game! DLC would have to be restricted to maps, IMHO. And that could work. And you missed out PMC and ACR DLC for ArmA II. Not that I'm keeping score ;-)

    The DLC disscusion

Since we're wishing here, I'll jump in. I'd pay for DLC in a few circumstances. I'd like to see Namalsk in DayZ again, and I'd pay for it just to support the developers of this map and say thank you for their work. Anyone with the required skill to put a map together and have it play well deserves this at least. I wouldn't pay for a DLC that only adds a weapon/vehicle, etc. Too much pay-to-win, there! Anything that can give you a material advantage in-game, should have the same chance to be acquired ligitemately by any player, end of. I don't think we have too much to worry about. Rocket seems to be thinking along similar lines, from what I've been able to infer from his many posts. Now if he'd only kill this 'hive' idea for servers....
  17. djporternz

    The DLC disscusion

Probably. I'm working on the assumption that since I own both games and am not telling you how to do this, and definatley not making any money from anything, that it's not going to be worth their while chasing my minimum-wage arse through the courts. And in all seriousness, the ArmA franchise has survived and thrived on it's mod-ability. Hell, the DayZmod required that to even see the light of day. I'm hoping that Rocket and the Rocketeers (i.e. Dev team) are not going to get too up tight if the modding community want to work with their platform.

    ZOMBIES

Come on... Zombies have to have some use in this game. It's not like they actually represent a threat to anything except a new spawn!

    The DLC disscusion

Not quite. There are some changes in the engine at it's lowest level, but for the most part it seems to be a hybrid of ArmAII/II and ToH features. I think most of the changes were to the networking code and to bring the hive stuff into the engine itself, rather than scripted as in the mod. As an example, If you add the DayZ data files to ArmA III as an add-on, the map appears to be pretty much playable, and the items seem to be pretty much intact as well. The player models, however, are screwed, but take them out and use standard ArmA III models and you're good to go. I may or may not have actually tried this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBp6t2ViE_I or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxabdkU3SLg

    The DLC disscusion

If it follows the same structure as the ArmA games (and there is no reason it shouldn't) then the in-game editor is used only for creating 'missions' in those games. The availible tool suites allow for the creation of content (Buildings, objects, maps, etc.). You'd also have to be v. heavily into the scripting side of things to get everything perfect, but it is do-able. At its very core (the changes to the RV engine not withstanding), the core game in DayZ is very similar to the existing DayZmod on the ArmA II engine. I'm not stretching out my neck too far to say that anything you can imagine doing in the DayZmod can be done in DayZ.
  21. djporternz

    The DLC disscusion

Umm... DayZ is using tried and true tech from the ArmA games. Yes they are doing a few things differently, but these are pretty minor in the scheme of things. And we already have a full suite of tools and utilities for almost everything in ArmA I/II/II & ToH. I'd be surprised if there weren't a few people like me who were already having a look 'under the hood' of DayZ to see what goes where and what can be tweaked. There probably won't be anybody poking their heads up atm with mods yet, but once we get the promised private servers, there will be a flood of them. And for those saying that this is not going to happen: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ This especially: Rocket - "Eventually, we would like to see these different communities on their own db running their own variations of DayZ to meet specific communities needs."

    What Ruins DayZ

Walking speed is way too fast as it is. Hell, sprinting at 24 km/h indefinately is so OTT. Crank those back, I say. Take a day to walk across the map. At least that's one day you're not dead! And you want cars! Next you'll want helicoptors and jets! And then it's only a small step to teleports between fat loot spawns! Might as well since WOW has them, right? ;-) The only major flaw in this game (and the mod as well) is the fact you can loot gear on one server and transport it to another to be used. Kill that and then we're all on the same battlefield with the server jumping, combat logging, ghosting, PvP sons of ... Opps. Sorry, almost headed into full rant mode there.

    TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC

Go to your /Documents folder and delete the 'DayZ' and 'DayZ Other Profiles' folders. This will clear out any bad settings in either the game settings or characters saved data. This won't touch any game critical stuff (that's all in your Steam directories), but the game will recreate these things on next start as if running the game for the first time. Definately sounds like a settings issue. Delete the two mentioned folders and let the game rebuild them. You'll have to readjust all your settings again if you are using anything except default. [NOTE: For everyone, since your inventory is stored in the hive, you won't lose anything by deleting these folders.]

    TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC

Already implemented: If you don't see any Z's at the airfield, it means that players have already been through there. And they ain't gonna leave you any fat loots now, are they?

Combat logging, Ghosting and Server hopping...

All of the suggested fixes have a major flaw: the server is going to have to spend some amount of time checking/logging timers for every login/out attempt. Easiest fix by far is to have a character/inventory locked to a server. You can still play on other servers, but inventory is local to that server. This would negate every one of the problems except combat logging. You fix that by giving us a few PvE enforced servers. TBH I've never understood the game mechanic that allows a player to hop servers looting the same location on each server and thinking that this isn't an exploit. It's why I don't PvP. No point when all of the opponents, almost without exception, and max geared by hopping servers at NWAF of the Military camps.
