  2. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes! Explanation: If you are going to buy DayZ at all in the future, there is nothing to lose in buying it now. It will even work out cheaper as the price will undoubtedly increase as we go into Beta and Release. It may be cheaper if you wait long enough after release for the inevitable 25-50% off sales after that, but why wait. Even if you don't want to deal with the bugs and failings of the current Alpha, the beauty is you don't have to play it now. Just let it sit there on your hdd and wait until you feel that it's ready for your investment of time and energy to play. Of course, you are going to play it and you will be irritated by something, either a feature or a bug, and the beauty of the Alpha/Beta process is that there is a way for you to give YOUR feedback directly to the dev team and have it at least considered along with the rest of the mountainous volume of other users feedback. If you wait until release to buy, then there will be no opportunity to have your say. All the features will have been developed and matured within the Alpha/Beta to and fro-ing and the chance to infulence anything will be lost. You'll still be able to bitch and moan about it, but you will be ignored. And let's be honest here, you already know if you're going to buy the game.

    All the 1st ranters

It is simple hilarious that all you 1PP Hardcore PvPers are so het up about us 3PP players. You've now got your own 1PP servers to go play on. But no, you're still getting on the 3PP servers to gear up, and whinging like little school girls because everyone isn't forced to see the world your way. So what am I to take from that. Well, for one it seems like you're only interested in 1PP only when it suits your own purpose. Get off the 3PP servers and get on the 1PP ones and live or die there; i.e. prove you are as hardcore as you say you are, or jump on the 3PPs with the rest of us pussies and calm the f'k down. EDIT: Sry, I seem to be able to type faster than I can spell.
  4. Just a couple of observations I'd like to make... All of the arguments against 3PP are directly related to the equality (I won't say fairness) of the participants in PvP situations. As such, they may have had merit at the beginning of the Alpha, but now we have 1PP only servers, the points made are virtually all redundant. Yes the inequality can still exist on a 3PP enabled server, but if you're PvPing on one of those now, then what did you expect? Simple solution: PvP on 1PP servers only! No more problems! A bigger threat to PvP equality are the FoV & Gamma/Brightness adjustments available to players. These also allow a player willing to fudge these an enormous advantage over someone who isn't willing to do so. There isn't any server settings available to solve these issues, yet. Now I'll admit I don't do a lot of PvP (mainly because I suck at it!) and prefer a more PvE Solo/Co-op Survival style of play. 3PP may help here at giving me an advantage over the Zs, at present, but it's not like the Zs in their current implementation are that much of a threat! Now I could choose to play in 1PP, and quite often do, but the key word here is 'choose'. After all, everyone else playing on the 3PP server has the same ability to choose as I do, hence a level playing field by definition. One last point: I like being able to go into 3PP for the simple fact that there is no other way except in a very abstract sense to be aware of body position and dispostion, etc., of gear and equipment. You get some audion cues if you have some particular piece of equipment, but for the most part you don't. You can't feel the weight of that mountain pack you've loaded up with crap. You can't feel the chest rig you're wearing. You cant feel the weight and heft of that axe digging into you're right sholder. In 1PP after long periods of time, it is too easy to become a disembodied point of consciousness floating across the landscape and can be hard to keep visualised what your character is actually looking like. Yes you have the inventory screen, and that helps, but after running across the map in 1PP and having to take action on encountering another player, you can forget that you're wearing a giant orange 'here I am' patch on your backpack. Going prone isn't going to cut it. One last last point: It took a long time to collect all this gear and for the short time that I'm going to be allowed to keep it, I damn sure want to be able to see it for as long as possible. :)

Item condition - Worst idea ever

The funny (ironic) thing is that the game he wants this to be already exists. He should go play some PvP/TvT ArmA 3. There is no durability there and you don't have to worry about those pesky zombies. You get given a gun and ammo at game start, no having to scavenge for anything. No food or water requirements, although they still have fatigue in there. No bloodtyping. KoS is the ONLY imperative. Hell, even ArmA 2 is more in line with waht he wants to play. So, go PVP/TvT your litte heart out in ArmA2/3 Deathmatches and let us get on with playing the game we want to play.

    Help I'm stuck!!

Had this happen yesterday on the lower floor. Managed to get out by sprinting at a wall and eventally managed to extricate myself. Might need to make sure there isn't an object already in the place you're sprinting at, or you're likely to be pushed back by it. PS: On a funny note, it was interesting and funny to open up with my M4 when a jumper ported into the room. Couldn't hit them OfC, but they logged pretty damn quick!

why dayz is best play in dark

Yeah, play at night and flash that 'kill me' beacon around like an idiot. No thanks.

Trick to find out, the GSP of a Abusive Server.

It might be good to note that sending a message to the lower tier provider isn't probably going to be effective. Always send it to the top level provider. I.e: I sent a message to vilayer and DedicatedGaming. DedicatedGaming replied today that it's basically out of their hands as they have no power to administer the server and sent me back to vilayer. Always send the message to the top tier provider.

Trick to find out, the GSP of a Abusive Server.

Vilayer.com = DedicatedGaming, Hosting Provider, Sydney, AUAnother one for the collection.
  11. Reported a couple of servers for player kicking: it was called: DayZSA Private Clan | You will be kicked | Members Only 119.252.190.45:2702 They're still currently active in the server lists, atm. Just wondering if there is an accepted wording if we are emailing the abuse@ at the hosts ourselves to speed these up? Also, I can't seem to find any link to the DayZ SA Terms of Service documents (if they exist). If you could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Reporting Servers and Terms of Service

Reported it to Vilayer.com, but the whois comes up as DedicatedGaming, Hosting Provider, Sydney, AU so forwarded it to them as well, although the abuse address is '[email protected]'. It is indeed a tangled web we weave...

a question about the map [in game]

No. Even with the map parts you won't be given a marker on the map at your position. This isn't that big of a deal as you'll soon be able to pick out where you are in Chernarus after a while. It really isn't that big a place.

    Got a compass..

Daytime: Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Clouds move east to west. Nightime: Moon rises in the east and sets in the west. Clouds move east to west. Find the Big/Little Dipper, from there find the North Pole Star. The compass: A crutch for basement dwellers.

    Why everyone is soo unfriendly?

Simple really. Give a young population free access to guns and no repercussions or responsibilities for their actions and within minutes they'll start killing each other. People are stupid, groups of people are f'ing stupid! It's also a failure of imagination. It's so muchg easier to destroy someone or something else than actually have to build something yourself.

Remove player count in server search?

Nope. I play on low-pop night servers because I don't want to PvP every five seconds. For the same reasons I avoid high traffic landmarks, I avoid high traffic servers. This is the way I have fun playing this game. YMMV.

    Possible map expansion ?

The problem I'm having, and this isn't a game breaker for me, is that ChernarusPlus is v. pretty and there are some interesting changes in there, but it still feels like the same old Chernarus over again. What I'd like to see is maybe a whole new map. Push out the boundaries as far as can be managed and make the map truely epic in proportions. Especially as they intend to add cars. Chernarus is way too small when you can travel at 50 m/ph.

    how to play?

Welcome aboard. Read the pinned 'Beginners Guide'. Watch a few YouTube vids to get an idea of the basics. Best advice I can think of: Don't get too hung up on your character or gear. Both are temporary. Work out a way that you have fun playing this game. (Hopefully that won't lower the fun for other players!) Find someone to play with, as that makes the game so much better. REMEMBER that the game is still alpha, and is changing a lot ATM. There are bugs alive and kicking that make some of the simplest things frustrating, but this game is fun to play. So play. Have fun. PS: No matter what anyone says, do not give up a can opener under any circumstances. Let them take your gun and ammo, blood bag you, handcuff you or whatever else takes their fancy. But stash that can opener somewhere safe!!

    Safest Hospital and Military camp?

I was up at Berezino yesterday mapping out the town and only saw 3 people the entire day. The easiest way is to just check on the Z count. If there are Zs in close proximity to a hospital, then you can be pretty sure that it hasn't been looted yet. I don't think there is as much server hoping at hospitals as there are at the military bases. The problem with military bases IS the server hopping ATM. And, in full disclosure, I have server hopped a mil base a few times to get some gear to test a few buggy things. [That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!]. That means you're not able to use the Z count for checking the area. At least until Zs are able to get up stairs and attack those SoBs. So even barracks out at Zelenogorsk can be tricky things. If you find a single barracks in a village somewhere, then you might luck in as it's not as likely that it will be inhabited by jumpers. I've also had a little success hitting up the barrack buildings at the SW mil base that are not right in around the main complex. There's two of them outside the inner fence out by themselves. Other than that, joining a low pop server at night and hit up Cherno or Elektro, or if you time it right one of the mil bases.

    Possible FPS Enhancer

NOTE: Searched through this topic but couldn't find any references, so will post this. Apologies if it duplicates any other post. I found that the biggest difference in my framerate came from the FoV setting. I.e. the difference between widest and lowest FoV was a doubling in my FPS. I had wondered about this since my FPS would jump up real high when scoped in (as displayed by Bandicam FPS overlay). I've found that 1PP vs. 3PP also affects FPS with 1PP being 2~3 FPS quicker (doesn't have to render Player is my guess). With the 'Normal' profile (ex. rendering set to 1440x900) and 1PP and smalest FoV, I am getting ~60 FPS in the wilds, and around 30~35 FPS in the large towns. SPEC: AMD FX-8150 @ 4.2 GHz, Win7x64, 32 GB, GTX 560 Ti (1GB)

    Possible map expansion ?

I think that the northern expansion is going to be around all those empty roads on the map atm. If you go up there ther are a lot of long empty roads and concrete pads dotted about the place.

No, I understand what 'Public/Veteran' means but I've been seeing a lot of servers listed as 'Public/3PP:ON'. What does that mean, please? Are there any other things like this that are coming down the line that I should be aware of?

Just sit down and rest awhile...

Just spent all night looting Zelenogorsk and the Military Base. Got up high and decided to take a well earned break to shake off the stress and paranoia that prolonged skulking about can and does induce... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flB3bRhgE_Q
