No loot houses, whats the ETA on a fix?
djporternz replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Official answer is: Soon™. Plus Dean seems to think that they were already spawning items. I think he spends way too much time playing on internal builds! -
Thanks, good to know. I'll leave it where I've set it and monitor the situation for a bit. Dean mentions desync in the latest devblog: http://youtu.be/19ehC8kwoWE?t=11m30s Seems it may be related to server->client spam for inventory. I don't think anything we do is going to fix that.

what do you do in elektro when you're empty-handed and a horde of zombies is after you
djporternz replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Run! You run faster than the Zs, you CAN lose them! You don't have to stop long to get that fireaxe into your hands at the fire station. go grab one and then it's death to Zs. you've basically won the game from there on out! -
Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
djporternz replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Can't find the link anymore and can't remember if it was a tweet, reddit or I dreamt it, but I recall that Exp would likely see weekly updates and Stable would only see them every 3~4 weeks. Something to do with the shitstorm of 'I know it's an Alpha but... RANT!' threads that we got after the last few Stable updates. Also, wanting to test things better on the Exp servers for more than the few days the last Stable update had. If you recall, there were a few issues ;) -
Discussed before... once or several million times. Sorry, i've lost count. As explained in numerous threads, if you had cared to research the issue, the Devs specifically discounted this method as it was easily exploitable in DayZ. Go back to the search dialog and use terms like 'combat log', or even just 'timer'. Should be a few threads pop up. Note, however, all threads on these forums eventually turn into a KoS/Anti-KoS or Combat Logging Pro/Con diatribe if they remain visible on the first page long enough.... YMMV.

DayZ SA Can't load main menu/character screen
djporternz replied to AwesomeRomchik's topic in Troubleshooting
Had a similar problem a few times. Used CTRL+Alt+DEL and brought up the task manager. DayZ decided then to kick itself back into action. YMMV. -
Okay... See kids, 'Drugs are bad!'

1 & 2: No because AI is hard to get right and would kill any FPS on the server. Better to have players in these roles. Better all around and much more dynamic. 3: Yeah, okay. Have to be rare and not overly OP loot-wise. 4: No, No, NO! The beauty of DayZ is that THERE IS NO ENDING! Apart from that, refer to the first part of 1 & 2 above.

Not being too familiar with anything network related, thanks for the post. Testing it ATM and results look very promising. If I may ask a few questions, though, in no particular order: I'm assuming that WRT DayZ desync that I don't need to increase the ICMP/TCP-SYN numbers? What would you recommend as a suitable UDP threshhold. My system defaults to 500 and I've boosted this up to 750 for testing. Do I need to go higher? Is a lower value a better compromise to desync/security?Is there any Windows system/Windows firewall settings that may be hitting UDP throughput? If you are able to share any answers for these it would be appreciated. As I said, networking is a big black hole to me :)

BattlEye updates should be fully automatic, but if you want/need to update manually, go here: http://battleye.com/download.html. Put the downloaded file into your Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\Battleye\ folder and overwrite the file that is already there.

Devs have mentioned many times that when more general and crafted weapons become a reality in game that gun spawns and especially mil gun spawns will be much rearer than they are now. At the moment when they add a new item they are using an intentionally high spawn rate. They want us to test it and discover whatever bugs and glitches we can. It is impossible to guage final spawn rates off what we are seeing in game ATM. They are going to be all over the place for quite a while yet.

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
djporternz replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
By 'this stuff' I believe he is referring to the bugs you listed. Most of these are already known issues in the bug tracker: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/83-bug-reports/. For those it is best to go into the tracker and add your info there or just upvote the issues you see as important there. This thread should be used for discussing the upcoming changes listed in the patch notes or problems with them discovered by playing in the Experimental builds. It keeps this thread (mostly) on topic and avoids unnecessary clutter. -
No. DayZ SA is tied to Steam. I don't see this changing at any time in the future or there being any reason for it not to be.
-
That's easily fixed. Come back in 6~8 months. You'll get your wish about not seeing any updates, and you never know, the Devs might have been able to fix the internet by then!
-
Shouldn't be necessary for playing via the client. Was only necessary with ArmA in general, if you were running a server. The ports for the current DayZ SA servers are all across the map depending on which you choose to play on, so I wouldn't want to recommend any as you'd end up having to open yourself wide open. TBH, I don't think this is the solution to your friends problem.

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
djporternz replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
They have mentioned that they are going to implement persistent backpacks first, then move to tents. Probably because backpacks are already present and don't require any new framework code. And I assume that you have all seen that single server, DayZ SE 0-0, hanging out with a 'Private' Hive listing! This would be bigger than tents, IMHO. -
An exploit that relies on the fact that your character is transferable across all hive servers and the fact that you can log out at a high value loot spawn and visit this location on multiple servers, looting each in turn. Steps have been taken to curb this type of behaviour in the form of a 250 s login timer if you were not playing in your previous server for 30 mins or more. It is looked down upon by most players as it is an exploit, and as such, goes against the spirit of the DayZ game.

Will we ever see a fix to this kind of exploit?
djporternz replied to icrush's topic in Troubleshooting
Sorry, wasn't meaning to be so terse, but at work ATM. No word on any actions being taken as yet. Item is still open so at least it's still possible it will be addressed and the more people who vote it up the better. -
From: Live stream with Rocket (20.02.2014) - from reddit, thanks to rudette http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/ No custom faces (scanned in, like rainbow six) due to TTP and performance hit.Sorry guys, this looks like a non-starter!

Learn the map: http://dayzdb.com/map. Learn the general locale of the spawn points. Learn to determine direction from the enviroment: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/170905-navigation-guide-common-spwans-cardinal-directions-map-reading/?hl=navigation. Get in game and move around the map. Nothing beats being on the ground and familiarising yourself with the terrain. The rest comes with experience...

This may help with that question. I don't think it would be classed as a cheat as it has a very useful function WRT hearing impaired gamers. Unfortunately, it is flagged as a hack by punkbuster but I don't know about BattlEye. UPDATE: Just looked at the BE site and note the addition of this on there support page: Direct3D Hook #X: Disable overlay programs or the overlay feature of these programs while playing on BE-enabled servers. Popular examples are Xfire (you can leave it running by disabling the ingame-overlay feature for your game in the options), Fraps, TeamSpeak Overlay (TSO) and ATI Tray Tools.Sorry, it looks like any less-abled gamers get screwed over again. It's a sad indictment of the industry, right there!

This is a known issue. No fix is available ATM.

Direction of development: rocket & co. please read!
djporternz replied to pantsd0wn's topic in Suggestions
I'm... not... going... to... say... it... Watch this: TBH, your concerns about the direction of development are unfounded. What you are writing about as trivial and little things are some of the bigger problems for modders of the RV engine contend with. As someone who has tried with limited success to create a MP-capable weather sync system for ArmA3, I can tell you the engine actively fights you on this. If Dean and team have found a fix for this, brilliant! But it still needs testing, which is our main purpose here. As to some of the issues with the Zs, this is an ongoing problem. It hasn't seen significant changes in the public builds as it is only a placeholder system ATM. It is intended to be completely rewritten at some point, and fixing the existing system would just be so much wasted development time. We've got a long way to go. Wee've got at least 6 months before they are looking to include vehicles. That's a lot of time to fix bugs and reinforce the basic framework they'll be hanging everything else off of. A lot of the small things they are adding is simply because the framework already supports them. These are the main talking points from the most recent Q&A streams by the Devs: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/. A lot of things in that list. It explains a lot about what is intended and what isn't.
