I never played the original, why is there 3rd person?
djporternz replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I don't PvP. I use 3PP when I feel like it. Sue me! I fail to see how that gives me an advantage over you. We're never going to be in any sort of situation where it is relevant. -
You want to hydrate someone you have them drink something, usually water with electrolytes added, in measured quantities so as not to overload their system. Saline is purely about blood pressure and viscosity. You give it to dehydrated patients to fend off the secondary effects of the dehydration, but it isn't going to effect anything other than thier blood. It's a large hammer, but sometimes that's what is needed. Once the patient is out of immediate danger you can worry about anything else. The fact is, you can dilute blood down a fair way and not lose any of it's functionality.

Guns aren't threatening. People holding guns are threatening. and that has nothing to do with the gun they're holding. Anyway, one shot kills are pretty rare IRL. That's why you train to double tap your targets. And then you get to go check that they aren't going to get up. IRL people are more likely to comply with a perp with a knife than a perp with a gun.

Medical system for DayZ Part 2: Emergency care for other players
djporternz replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Same as your other post. Rather than enhancing the medical systems in DayZ as they are ATM, this trivialises them to the point of being almost irrelevant. Might as well automate the whole thing and take any player control out of the equation. -1 from me for this one as well. -
Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:
djporternz replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't see any advantage in this system over what we already have in-game. The only difference is that you are seeming to want the game to hand-hold you and tell you exactly what you need to be doing. Why not have the game automatically treat you as well if you have the required materials? Sorry, I can't support this idea. -

Here we go again! If you don't like it, don't use it. If you don't like watching other people use it, don't watch them. Go, enjoy yourself on those 1PP servers all you want. Yes they are unpopulated. I wonder why? Oh, that's right. Because for all the talk from hardmen such as yourself, noone actully wants to play DayZ in 1PP. 1PP/3PP: I don't really care. I switch depending what I'm doing in-game. It's there. It's a feature. It's not a bug or an 'exploit' as you state. We have gone over this more times than I can remember. It's going to be tweaked a little, maybe, but it isn't going away. Now let's move on. -
I'm running an AMD FX-8150 @ 4.2 GHz & GTX 560 Ti. I'm getting roughly the same FPS as melvindorf, but as this is camparible to FPS in ArmA II & III which used various versions of the RV engine, I don't see this as an issue. As has been stated in other FPS threads, you aren't ever going to get an equivalent FPS from the RV engine as with, say, the Crysis engine. The RV engine is doing far more than just handing off data to the GPUs. So lower your FPS expectations a little and find some settings that compromise between looks and playability you can live with, and just get in game and play. @Tansien AMD vs. Intel isn't doing anybody any favours. The differences in performance between the two and not statistically significant in any real world situation or when tested in anything like a double-blinded bias-controlled test. So changing from AMD to Intel is not going to be the panacea you suggest it is. @AussieBobby Mantle wouldn't help here. Its a different API, to be sure, but even if you believe the stated claim of a 45% speed increase from their PR department, you'd still only be looking at an 8~9 FPS increase in towns, IF that speed increase is even applicable within the RV engine, which I doubt. It would also mean completely rewritting the engine to accomodate it, as it is stated by AMD themselves, this API is an alternative to DirectX/OpenGL. It also means no nVidia cards will work with it, since it is designed to directly access the AMD GPUs. Moot point, anyway. Mantle isn't out in the wild yet.

Then I'm sorry. You ARE going to be disappointed. Unless you have the financial resources to upgrade your system to the bleeding edge, then you'll have to endure the situation with the rest of us. Even after the 'optimisation' steps that will come with the games development, you are not going to be suddenly getting the FPS you want. Even with the bleeding edge systems, you aren't going to get that! So, reality check time! Play as is and find some silver lining. Upgrade your system and hopefully be better off. Or just don't play. Your choice. Oh, and starting your statement with: "i dont expect anything... i expect...". Umm, hello!! PS: I'm going to stop now, because this thread can't go anywhere good from here.
-
To put it simply, your expectations are too high. On your hardware, you are not going to get the FPS you think you deserve. This is not meant as a slight, its just a fact. My system is only a little better than yours, but I am coming from long experience with the ArmA (RV) engines and so know that frame rates are going to be lower than with some other engines. If I try to run everything on hig, I'm lucky to be able to get ~20 FPS out in the wilds. In any town, or village for that matter, forget it! So lower your expectations a little, go read the FPS thread (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/) and try everything there, it may help. Other than that, just get in game and ignore the FPS.

...so did this instead of doing nothing! Restocked the Stary Sobor supermarket. It was a fun exercise just to see what sort of loot you can get out of a dozen or so houses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpkF6009hoY Anyway, still there on the Delicious Donuts server (at least until the next server reset!)

Second Attempt. This time just to see what the total loot from the town is. Doesn't include the industrial buildings on the NW of town, but everything else was stripped out and rehoused at the supermarket. Not quite as much as I thought, but definately enough to survive on for a while. Video doesn't show the rotten fruit, but they're out the back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEV0mEz2_pg The funny thing was, a group of three military strapped guys ran through town, saw me, came over, saw what I was doing, then hurridly left town. They hadn't even entered a sigle building in town. Obviously had an appointment somewhere else.

What would have been great, is a hidden camera on the wall just to watch people's reactions as they come in the doors. Ahhh, but that's just a dream, just got the 'No message recieved...' on screen. Reset time.

Actually found 6. Found a N & S Cherno map but put them together and decided to keep those. Found a NW & SW and put them together to make a S. Found all but one map piece in cars, the other on top of a wadrobe.

Whats going to be in 0.31.114160
djporternz replied to Wernsley (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Please delete your copy of DayZ immediately. Unplug your computer from the wall and throw it in the trash. Self indulged pricks with overwrought senses of entitlement should not be allowed anywhere near anything like DayZ, SA or otherwise. Unless that was sarcasm, in which case, well played! I'm guessing you'd have to burn it to CD/DVD or copy it to a USB Memory Stick. -
Yep, it's very sad. All that area and all they want to do is run around an airfiled or within a few city blocks. And I'm currently the only inhabitant of Polina, ATM. Well, at least on this server.
-
Still not too sure on this idea. Can they guarantee they are organic and gluten free?
-
Simple idea, really. Many items we can do this for already, i.e. food and melee weapons, but I'd like to go a little further. I'd like to be able to pick up any items and be able to carry them, clothes, hats, footwear, firewood, backpacks (empty or full). Basically any item that spawns that it would be possible to carry in the real world. Would also be convienient to be able to have the option to 'Take <x> into hands' on the command menu even if we could just put it into an inventory slot. Backpacks could be a special case: I'd like to be able to carry one in my hands, but realistically it would be okay to not have it saved like the standard one on your back, whether it was in your hands or not. Otherwise it's just more storage per character. I'm thinking of this functionality more as a 'Here's one I prepared earlier' and hand off to a freshie or a friend.

I hate those masks with a passion. Don't know exactly why, but I'm not inclined to be friendly to someone wearing one of those. +1. They get the rep and we get some way to target our retribution. This is the current failing ATM. While I applaud Rocket's intent here in anonomysing actions within the game world, it means even if we organised a lynching party we'd be pretty much impotent. Hopefully there is some change coming that will address this.

What maps would you want in the Standalone?
djporternz replied to Draco122's topic in General Discussion
ALL OF THEM! And all of the ones that haven't been thought up yet! Oh, and all of Central Europe the Entire World as a single map! -
Mod support is coming, go look at the roadmap. You don't want mod, that's fine, don't use them.
-
Tried that when I saw it while rummaging around in the configs. I don't think the code is there to support it.
-
That was better than the entire ode! Good work!
-
Thank god! Your meter was all over the place, your rhymes were forced more than once, and overall your ode stank up the place. Go back and re-read some Tennyson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred,_Lord_Tennyson) and pay particular attention to how it should be done. If you must, you can defer to one of those colonial poets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_poets_from_the_United_States), but to be honest, they're a little too modern and possibly all a little too happy (if you know what I mean). Except of course Ezra Pound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezra_Pound). I like him, so he would be an acceptable alternative. But only his 'Cantos'. Everything else he did was outright dross. And under no circumstances should you read anything from Pam Ayres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pam_Ayres). Take my word for it. Just don't. Now, I can give you an extension until next Wednesday at the latest, so you'd better get to it.

No, no, no. Throw away the flashlight, but keep the battery. You'll need it for the scope you're going to put on that weapon when you find it. Think, people, think. Batteries don't grow on trees, you know! And they make your tongue tingle when you lick them! And to the OP: Very derivative post. Everything in it has been posted before. Except for the YouTube link. TBH, a simple post with that in the Gallery section would have sufficed. Oh, and another thing, currently I've survived 28 days solo. But that's why they call me Dave No Friends!* * Not really, I just work crap hours and the servers with acceptable ping are empty when I can play.
