I'll disagree. But grouping together will only occur if there is a COMMON enemy. As long as you can point at something and call it THEM as opposed to the US over here, you will have a cohesive group. Once that THEM is contained or eliminated then people will start looking for another THEM to target. KoS simply ignores the US part of this argument and replaces it with ME. In RL this is tantamount to suicide. But this is a game and there are no lasting penalties for jumping out of the low end of the gene pool.

Not true. Only about 2 of the 4~6 servers in each geo-zone are Hardcore. The others are Regular. But you're right, they are all always packed!

The big one: Stability. In an ideal world the server hardware and executable would be rock solid and able to function unaided for ever. Unfortunately we don't live in that world. ATM we reboot because there isn't any loot respawn and Z respawn is v. limited and only available on the Experimental branch, so a four hour restart cycle is being used. I would hope that at release we'd be able to go days if not weeks between restarts. If they get the respawns right, then hopefully there wouldn't be any significant difference to a restarted server and one that had been up for weeks, but again that might be in my ideal world.

He won the game! Bravo sure. Beans for life  :beans:

Problem is, diagnosing internet issues from a distance can only be done in very broad, general terms. There are just too many local factors that only affect the individual system. As this is not a global issue, it is not conducive to a concerted effort to solve. @Vertoxis Or the problem was transient and simply went away. This has been my experience with these types of desync issues.

Depends on the server you want to play on. The 'best' version is the version used on the server. But the latest version of the particular mod you want to play, as that one will usually have less bugs in it. Steam has the latest version of the vanilla mod available for free download. You could do worse than start with that one. It's 1.8.0.3.

Plus one more that has slipped in on the Experimental side of things. It's called 'Private'. Maybe a sign of things to come!

Um... 'You are dead!' What other effect had you in mind? I thought that would be enough, personally.

Hardcore. Yes I know it's been said before, but... HARDCORE! TL;DR: Hardcore... Just saying!

BI > DayZ > Dean 'Rocket' Hall DayZ is a thing in its own right. At this point it doesn't necessarily need Dean to continue. The roadmap is laid out and it's just a matter of having someone see it through to the end. As Dean has stated more than once, he may become detrimental to that process at some point, so IMO he's making a good reasoned decision to get the groundwork done and pass the project along.

Patch went to Experimental. Stable will be when they think it's stable enough for the average Joe.

HACKING!!!! There is no way he got up there legitimately!

As you say, they are EX Kiwis. No backsies there, mate! Anyway, they raise the average IQ of both countries by going over there! I'm using cable internet. Ex-Telstra now Vodaphone. Never have a problem except when the bill comes in each month.

To be fair, being an Aussie is almost as good as being a Kiwi! They just have to ditch that accent and all the flaura and fauna that can kill you! :D

Or just have 'W' to walk / Shift + 'W' to run. Seems much easier. -
The legal stuff would require a lawyer to sift through, but he developed the Mod while at BI but I'm guessing that his 'ownership' and IP would be restricted to something similar to any other mod author. As to the engine, I'm sure that BI hold that one completely. They don't license that outside their own organisation, so with Dean back down here in NZ he'll probably have to start from scratch for that. Not completely bad, but it could explain the reasoning behind him stating it'll take 2~3 years to get up and running. I'd very much doubt they'd do that.

BI > DayZ > Dean "Rocket" Hall Dean's baby has grown up, and is now a thing in it's own right. Hell, I'll go as far as saying it has been and will be a cash cow for BI. I don't mean this in a bad way, but just the reality of history. BI is in some ways tied to the ongoing popularity of DayZ, and as Dean has already said a few times now, he can see a time where his vision for DayZ may become detrimental to it. Flaws and all, this train isn't going to be stopping anytime soon! TBH, when Dean speaks about flaws in the game, he's comparing it to some mythical 'perfect' MMO game as he envisions it. I don't know how close he will every be able to approach that goal, but it is something to watch for. And you never know, he may be able to pull it off!

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
djporternz replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
As you would expect. Exp build updates are carried over until everything is pushed out to Stable. The patch notes are a compilation of all of the features and fixes between the last Stable build and the current Exp build. Saves us having to check multiple threads to find all of the differences. -
Anyone else think it would be cool to have different clothes like.....

Kilt and bagpipes.... All the gear a guy needs! -
Devs, forget features, just focus on stability & release date.
djporternz replied to luzarius's topic in General Discussion
Yeah Devs... just do what the OP wants! We'll be happy with a stable game with absolutely nothing whatsoever to do in game except hide behind a tree or KoS... /sarcasm -
Hardcore Vs Regular Server Question
djporternz replied to Bogart (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
It is ATM. There have been a few suggestions and hints from Dean and/or the Devs about haveing tougher Zs and modified loot spawn %, but nothing like that has been implemented yet. TBH, I think the locked 1PP is enough by itself, as that deters the bulk of the problems I see on the Regular servers. YMMV. -
You've never done any bike touring, have you? You can pack a bike up with a HUGE amount of gear and still be able to go up/down most terrain easily. Remember, cycling is mostly an aerobic exercise. Unless you're heading up long mountain ascents raw power is not an advantage. As for being rarer than cars, That's not going to happen. and your number of '40'... LOL. How many cars dop you think there are going to be?
-
100% agree. Oly way I'd think about supporting it would be if it had some sort of delay duilt in, similar to the log timers. If you aren't in a server for more than 30 mins you don't get the option. There is no way in hell I want a feature that is simply going to be used to get a more advantageous spawn!
