Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?
djporternz replied to subliminal_city's topic in General Discussion
But they can guess, unless you ARE excited to see them! -
I see another flurry of posts on the forums: 'People who don't use PP are CHEATING ME'. I'd laugh if it wasn't going to happen!

Using gear deterioration to stop server hopping
djporternz replied to pteryx's topic in General Discussion
Everybody in most of these '<x> is a problem' threads spends too much time thinking up elaborate solutions that as usually too cumbersome or computationally intensive to be any good. Just stop loot from being transportable server to server. -
Not allowed ATM. Not worth paying YOUR money so BI can have another FREE Public server. Until we are allowed to host and CONTROL our own private servers, DayZ is just one big badly done clone of CoD/BF deathmatch gameplay. This echo's my thoughts on this: http://kotaku.com/how-dayz-ruins-your-hopes-and-dreams-for-the-perfect-zo-1500567194

Zs turn slower than they can lunge or run. If you want to melee them at close range, your 'A' and 'D' keys are your best friends. An axe is the melee weapon of choice, here. Aim for the head. Head shot = one shot kill, most of the time with an axe. If you elect to run, you have to break contact by about 100m, be out of line-of-sight, and be quiet. Plenty of opportunity to practice that. You can use the reverse to actually place Zs a some specific place, too. Think about that.

Change in how you start up a new character
djporternz replied to hookhead's topic in New Player Discussion
Because they want/need DayZ to be a PvP arena, and are only interested in grabbing a gun and shooting it. It's very sad. And like someone once said WRT to something completely different: 'What we have here is a failure of imagination!' -
Dynamic weather is hard to do in the RV engines. Takes a lot of network traffic to keep everything in sync across all players. We've tried this in ArmA II and III with varied levels of success.

If you think it's about the ger, you're doing it wrong! Go back to CoD or BF if you want easy guns.

DayZ SA Equipment Guide: What Equipment you should be using to survive, and where to find it!
djporternz replied to marsmars's topic in New Player Discussion
This isn't a 'Survival' equipment guide, it's a 'PvP' equipment guide. At least let's be honest about that! -
I have no problem with KoS, per se. And your example from Real Life is case in point to it's 'Authenticity'. The problem comes, because unlike in RL, in game there is no mechanism for responsibility or repercussion from any action. This is what I find unbalancing. It means that a KoS player can simply run around and do what they want (good) but they can never be called on those actions.
-
Okay, but you're not going to like it! Get rid of the guns and all that military gear. It's a crutch for the weak, and you're not weak, are you? Grab some med kits and do something that's actually useful. Hey, you asked!

Curious about peoples 'Rules of Engagement'
djporternz replied to UNDERWORLD's topic in General Discussion
Everyone gets one chance. But, if you want to light things up, then we'll dance. Except for people who wear masks. Or clowns. Sorry, but then its KoS. Mimes too, definately. -
Do you feel because you are not so well known member on the dayz forum that its okay for you to post a reply to a post like this? [iRONY]Ahhh, fuck... Sorry guys. That just made me look like an arsehole, and I didn't actually add anything to the discussion. Sorry, again. My bad. But in my defence, at least I used actual words and spelt them correctly![/iRONY]

How long does it take to run from one edge to the map to the other?
djporternz replied to marsmars's topic in General Discussion
Tested speed on a 1 km stretch of road and full sprint is pretty close to 25 km/h for flat and level. Don't know if slope or vegetation makes a difference except where walk gets enforced. And cars NEED to be locked to the server. I don't want to be seeing no free parking spots in Cherno. That could cause a bloodbath! It says so down at the bottom. 5 minutes 32 seconds. But only if you're the energiser bunny or shove a dozen 9v batteries up your arse. -
So why do people refuse being held up?
djporternz replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No. There needs to be a penalty for killing! <-- See what I did there? Now we can get straight to the debate about who's got the biggest dick without actually havig to bother with the OP at all. At least this thread will be exactly the same as every other one on these forums. -
So why do people refuse being held up?
djporternz replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Have you tried asking for something, you know, like, nicely. Something like, 'I've got spare cans of sardines here, you got anything I might need?' You want to get all handcuffy, then you might as well shoot me. Makes no nevermind if I'm here with no gear, or back with the family on the coast. And the advantage for me is that bullet is probably going to ruin the only piece of gear I've got that you'd want. Sucks to be you! So try more suspicious person and less thuggy bandit? You may be surprised how much more compliant people are to a person who understands manners and ettiquet, even when the world goes to shit. -
DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!!! The Zombies are dirty cheaters and wall hack like a bitch. The weapons are as accurate as and effective as crap. The player base is a bunch of needy weirdos and whinge about anything at all, and try to ram THEIR ideas down your throat and up your a@$# at the same time. FPS is f'ing awful, even on a US$10K system running technology even the NSA hasn't even thought up yet. YOU ONLY GET FOUR GUNS!!! Everything you eat will kill you and don't even think about regenning blood! Can't be done! And ladders! Don't even try!! Players inst-magi-server jump on fat loot spawns, combat log whenever a bunny farts, ghost through other servers, and then bitch and moan because their charcter got wiped by a bug in the Alpha!!! IT'S AN ALPHA!!! ALPHA==CRAP!!! 1PP/3PP? Doesn't matter. Whichever you choose, YOU'RE AN ARSEHAT!!! (Did I miss anything?)

Combat Logging - Massive Game Killer for DayZ
djporternz replied to crusader_111's topic in General Discussion
CONCLUSION: (For those who can't or won't read.) Quid pro quo. What are you willing to see in the game that specifically helps my play style, if I say yes to this to help yours? If your answer is nothing, then I say no system of rules and/or enforcement at all. End of. There is no punishment for ANYTHING in DayZ yet. And if they are going to add any sort of punitive systems into DayZ, where would you like them to stop? But let's assume that you are all that important and they institute a log-out timer. How long? Let's say 10 sec. And let's play pretend with a few simple cases: I'm in the Stary Sobor Supermarket and you're over at NWAF; You're at NWAF and I'm 800m away on a hill taking pot-shots at you; and We're both at NWAF and engaged in a heated CQC firefight. So result: Who cares. 10 sec is nothing. Who cares. 10 secs isn't going to be enough time for you to get there, and if you could have shot him and haven't, well, that's a personal problem. Whether he logs or moves away, so what. Tell yourself he logged to make yourself feel better and move on. In this case your 10 secs may make a difference. IFF you are in a position to immediately take advantage of the situation, take the shot, kill the guy, and retieve all that lovely ruined gear. So, does that solve the situation for you. Probably. If you extend the timer to allow for case two, how long is long enough? 30 secs? Still not long enough. Maybe if you run full speed in a straight line at the sniper on the hill, but that's just a bone-head move and you'd deserve to be sent packing for the coast. 1~2 min? Now you're starting to get into the area of hinderance to legitimate players. And when that happens there will be a backlash, and IMHO deservidly so. So, let's say that we argue back and forth for a bit, and it gets decided that 15 secs is an adequate time and not everybody is happy but we're willing to compromise and it is put in. You now have the ability to take immediate advantage of any limp dick logger and I'm not really impacted as I'm not there at the time so don't have a dog in that fight. Great. But this is a quid pro quo world, so I'm going to ask 'You got what you wnated (mostly), now, what are you going to give me?' See how this is going? You get something to enhance your style of play, and I'm expecting the same sort of consideration to my style of play. Nothing too complex here. So you say, 'Well, what do you want, then?' I don't PvP. I don't carry any sort of gun in-game, ATM. I've a fire axe for the Zs, and for the rest, well, it's never been an issue either way. But I don't like Arsehats. Now, you're asking yourself what exactly is an Arsehat. An Arsehat it that style of play where you get a fully geared player camping down on the coast and toasting his marshmallows by killing the freshies (noobs or bambis) who happen to have the unfortunate luck to want to play the game. Or that type of Thuggy who will strip a player of all there gear, and then kill the player who is now in the same state or worse, as a freshie. Now I don't want much, same as you don't want much. I just want an indication of the Arsehattedness of a player when they come striding up to me. It's not going to be any more onerous on any legitimate hardman as yourself than the log out timer is on me, as you aren't an Arsehat. Wait, I'm hearing an objection from the back of the room. 'But that's the way DayZ is meant to be played! No rules!' Apart from probably being an Arsehat, Sir, you're absolutely correct. Not only does DayZ have no rules, it also has absolutely no method of enforcing responsibility on a player for any actions that they care to take in game. But the point is, the OP not only wants DayZ to create an arbitrary rule, but also enforce it over the entire player base. All I'm saying is that if he gets his way (and it looks like he will from comments from the devs), then why can't I expect the same consideration. Seems only fair. (The Arsehat suggestion is only used as an example of a Rule/Enforcement imposed on the entire player base that has minimal effect but wider consequences. And for the record, I would support it as a measure in game.) CONCLUSION: (For those who can't or won't read this.) Quid pro quo. What are you willing to see in the game that specifically helps my play style, if I say yes to this to help yours. If your answer is nothing, then I say no system of rules and/or enforcement at all. End of. -
Or you can look at something like the TrackIR and have a completely hands-free method. And to the OP, yeah, I've struck the mislabeling of servers and it can be annoying from both sides of the 1PP/3PP cock fight. There was a thread floating around the 'suggestions' yesterday with an idea to have the 1PP/3PP moved to a seperate column of the server browser and pulled from the servers config and not reliant on an admins necessity to change the title as is currently the case. IMHO that would be a far better way to handle it.

unless i am hunting, i play on low pop to "gear up"...
djporternz replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Hah... Didn't think it'd be long before the 'That's not the way DayZ is meant to be played' crowd would turn up. I find it ironic that the inst-magi-server jumpers are calling out the low pop server guys for not playing the game the 'right' way! And vice versa. For god's sake, don't let them know you only play on 24/7 day servers, or 24/7 night servers. Or 1PP/3PP. Gamma & Brightness. -
Combat Logging - Massive Game Killer for DayZ
djporternz replied to crusader_111's topic in General Discussion
Don't know. But same old tired crap from the same old posters. But don't worry, there'll be a few more posts exactly the same today, and tomorrow, and the next day,... -
All good info here. The main one is to have the Med Kit in hand whenever possible. I don't go in for the bright clothes, somtimes it pays to be a bit circumspect in that regard. I'm happy with my black jeans and tee, bobble hat and a big red mountain backpack to carry my medical supplies. I've made one small change since this image was taken, in that I managed to find a badly damaged Tac Vest. Using that for the storage so condition is pretty much irrelevant. I don't carry a gun, ammo or any of the accessories, but what I currently have in my backpack: 4x Yellow Containers 2x Med Kit and Canteen 2x Med Kit and Bag of Rice *A Bag of Rice and a clean water source seems to be the quickest way I've found to get to the 'Healthy' state. 2x Sticks for Splints and rags to make them up 2x Vitamins Sundry other med items when available Charcoal Tabs, Morphine, Epi, Sterile Bandages, Pain Killers, Alcohol, Blood Test Kits, etc. Sundry Cans of food. Note: I'm running with Med Kits WITHOUT Blood Bags. Hate those things and the evils they cause. Plus, if you haven't got a Blood Test Kit then you're more likely to make a bad situation worse. Usually I've replaced them and used the slot for storing a full Saline Bag in each kit. I don't make house calls. I'm located at the Stary Sobor Supermarket on the Delicious Donuts server. That's my base and if you want to find me that's probably where I am (except for the few times I go down to the coast to visit family ;) ). I don't travel the countryside much, unless there is an immediate threat or pressing need somewhere close by. I don't tend to vist other servers too much as Work and RL mean that anything out of the Southern Hemisphere is pretty much not going to be conducive to arranging such a visit. So I tend to treat people without terminal conditions as they have to have been able to get close to Stary. There's the passing trade, but that is rare and infrequent. In the down time, I run around Stary and grab anything usable and bring it to the supermarket. You've got to have a day job, right?

I don't run with a gun, so I don't find the need for the insta-magi-server loot jumpy crap that the hardman PvP Kos-kiddies go in for. That's right folks, I don't feel the need to run for the M4, Mosin, FNX or Magnum. I don't collect them, their accessories or their ammo. Bite me. You CAN pretty much play the game anyway you feel like ATM, and if you feel that your experience can be enhanced by server jumping for fat loot, then go do that. There is no right or wrong here. It's a 'feature' of the game. Same as ghosting and combat logging. People are going to do it until such time as they can't anymore. But it's not the only way to play this game. I'm currently living in Stary Sobor on the Delicious Donuts server, and running the Supermarket there. Every server reset I'm in game I run around Stary and see what's been delivered and bring it back to the store and restock the shelves. Usually lots of clothes, footwear and food, a few books, camping and sports gear, and occasionally a Mosin and ammo. Lay it all out and then sit back and wait for the customers to roll on by up the street. So if you're in the mind to, and can bear the ping and lag to a southern hemisphere server and are in the Stary area, drop on by for a chat. Maybe trade for what you want or just come by and take a few things to get by, I don't mind which. I've got a new shipment coming by in a few hours. So play how you want.

I want to play with a friend, how will we find each other?
djporternz replied to Sylosis's topic in New Player Discussion
Hello! The same way you do in real life. You find out where you are. You find out where he is. You work out where you're going to meet, and you get off your arse and start moving there. -
I've got your six, Max. I'm about 1.61619926 × 10-35 meters back here. But, yeah, we really need to do something about these folks that are forcing the youth of today to buy DayZ! That sort of stuff has to stop.
