30 to 40 FPS with those settings and that hardware seems to be about right. Remember, the RV engine isn't going to get you the FPS of a CoD or BF game. It isn't optimised for that. It is optimised for large maps / large scale MP games. Best advice, Set all settings on max and scale them back until you get something that you can both look at without barfing and play at a reasonably fluid level. Ignore the FPS numbers and just play. If your friend is getting 120 FPS then we need to be talking to him right now!

First start here: http://www.battleye.com/download.html Download the file and install it in that Steam\steamapps\common\DayZ\Battleye\ folder. Report back with progress.

Is kicking players instantly from servers allowed?
djporternz replied to duulis's topic in Server Advertisement
No. Report them to their Top Tier provider. -
Hipster!

He didn't actually lie to you, he just didn't tell the whole truth. There is a subtle difference. The feature was added last Thursday thanks to your use of FULL CAPS, unfortunately the use of FULL CAPS also slows down patch propogation through Steam. The patch should hit your client some time after Wednesday, 2017.

I may or may not have fixed this before or after you mentioned it, Maam. Do I still get a passing grade?

My First Time Playing DayZ Standalone: DayZ-Reporter
djporternz replied to DayZ-Reporter's topic in New Player Discussion

Not much to worry about there. He can't use Google: https://www.google.com/search?q=DayZ+Map&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 or even work out that the NWAF might just be N and W of just about anywhere. As a bandit, I give him 10% chance against an unarmed freshie. Even if he makes it to NWAF, how's he going to find his way back! Let alone load the gun he won't find at NWAF! Hah.

How to make the sawn off shotgun

You take a perfectly good shotgun and you saw off the best bit! Did I do it right? -
PC Shutting down completely when playing DayZ
djporternz replied to trubbished's topic in Troubleshooting
EventID 41 is an 'after the event' event i.e. the event that caused the shutdown happened in a way that doesn't let the system log the fault, and this one catches the fact that restart occurs without a proper shutdown having happened. See here for details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504. Unfortunately, you'd have to have a lot more knowledge than me to even guess at the actual cause of the fault. -
"DayZ is not a destination, it is a journey!" i.e. TD;LR for Dummies: It is the 'work' that is important. Everything else is just fluff.

Played on a 1st Person server last night...
djporternz replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
+1 Me too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-Y87lGClps A couple of observations, if I may: 1) Very boring video, sorry. No other players encountered, but thankfully short because of hitting a server reset. 2) Took me a while to re-adjust to the controls. Not so much the controls, TBH, but the change in viewpoint. 3) TBH, I didn't feel any more or less immersed in the game than in 3PP. I did feel a lot more annoyance when hitting the hard limits of the RV2.5 engine. Stance Adjustment, a la ArmA 3, please. After reconnecting to the server, had a few PvP interactions: (I forgot to restart the vid recorder, so sorry, no vid) 1) KoS'd: 0 times 2) Held Up: 1 time. No handcuffs or burlap sacks. Bandit placated with a can opener, canteen, bag of rice and two tins of sardines. Left me with my backpack, clothes and allowed me to keep my med-kit sans bandages. Nice guy, apart from the Magnum pointing at my head the whole time. 3) Ignored: 1 time. Funny story that. Posted in another thread: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168329-stop-and-listen-or-die/ Other than that, a caveat I hope you'll grant me: o) Video of a single player with no PvP interaction is extremely dull when watched. 3PP definantly has a place here, just from a videography standpoint. After all, there is a reason most films aren't generally shot in 1PP exclusively. -
Network Game Basics 101: For any networked game, at some point, the server has to trust the data coming from the client, and the client has to trust the data fed to it by the server. Without that premise, there is no game. Hackers exploit this simple premise and inject their data at the point that trust is guaranteed. A dev can, and usually does, have the server and client jump through multiple hoops before it will trust the other, but this leads to an arms race, in which there are very real deminishing returns, becoming overly burdensome on the legitimate players for the sake of a small percentage of cheaters. You cannot get rid of all hack-ability from a system, but you can make it increasingly difficult. You can ramp up the consequences of being caught out by using additional methods i.e. VAC and BE. Each side is playing catch up with the other. The game devs respond to a new hack and render it useless for a short time until a newer one is released. If they are lucky, some of the slower players who use the old one will be caught and banned, and will post on the forum about it. LOL. The Hackers response will see a flurry of hacking in game until in turn the devs jump all over their party and squash them for a short time, in turn. VAC & BE are working and the devs are working, and hacking in DayZ has been minimal at best. It is at the level of annoyance, but not, IMHO, overly bothersome. EDIT: Removed an unfortunate double negative!

Effects of cold/wet are already hinted at in the configs, resulting in Illnesses like 'Cold', 'Flu' and 'Brain Flu'. That last one is linked to 'Zombification'.

Hard to tell what Snowdrop is or isn't as the only information presently available for it has obviously been passed through the PR machinery several times. No hard data or numbers are avialable anywhere, and TBH, that trailer and the other shorter videos available are all slow-pan pre-rendered 'showcases'.

I've been trying something similar in Stary Sobor. Unfortunately I've had exactly one customer, who didn't make it into the shop proper. He saw the goods all laid out for sale and turned tail and sprinted out of town! I didn't even get a chance to jump into my Arkwright impersonation! Philistine!

Meh... Not bothered. Might be interesting for the first few times, but would depend on the variability and quality of loot whether it would have any longterm appeal. Random airdrops:These could take place at random moments with a cargo aircraft flying over and droping a number of "relief crates". The crates could land anywhere in the path of the aircraft which would be visable to people on the ground who could then try to search benieth the flightpath. Crates could be in fields forest or even towns and would despawn after a server restart. This would spread some significant loot over the map at random and give the dogs a ball to chase as well (so to speak) You realise that infections are already coded into the config ATM, right? They're just not activated in the current builds. Might want to hold off on that until you find out what sort of PITA these are going to be. HINT: Almost everything in DayZ has the potential to make you sick with something! Infectious illness:Imagine if loot taken by bandits could be infected and perhaps make them ill. We have the drugs and meds in the game as well as disinfectant. So if you DO shoot a guy for his stuff you have to sit there and clean it before you take it and become a target yourself. Illness could also require a course of antibiotics to cure Synchronising weather across multiple clients and server has always been problematic in the RV engines. I'm not saying that the devs haven't got a few novel tricks up their sleeve but how far they can go with this is an interesting question. As to player-turned-zombies, There has already been a response from Rocket on that, and it appears to be problematic WRT server load, unless they can also find some deep programming foo to sort it.

TBH, this isn't going to be the game for you. The low spawn rate for guns now is still probably higher than it's going to be at release. Once Bows & Arrows are in it is Rockets stated aim to 'reduce' military gun spawns, at least, even further. As to those who are saying this will only encourage server hopping: you're probably right, in the short term. There are plans afoot by the dev team to address that. The main one being that they will be able to restrict item numbers across ALL servers. Server hopping will not get you much if there are no more items of a type available. And you won't know which are and aren't available at any one time. So if you find a gun in non-pristine repair, you better take it. It might be the only one you'll get close enough to see. Not to mention the fact that once you have one, can you risk using it and losing it! A shotty: maybe. A Mosin: No. That's only for church on Sunday! Loot respawn is on the todo list, and will be implemented once the technical BS is all sorted. Using its lack ATM as a justification for anything is a red herring. We're just going to have to wait for that. Last point: The first word on DayZgame.com (after Feedback), is SURVIVORS. You don't necessarily need a gun to survive.

Yep. Sorry 'bout that. It appears the player base has indeed broken this game.

Stay away from the shotgun(s), here is why.
djporternz replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
Shots to Kill: head: 1 <--- Get closer, else you're just doing it wrong! And 'It's a f'king shotgun. What did you expect!'. -
On behalf of all the players of DayZ, I would like to personally offer a heartfelt appology for ruining the game. It won't happen again (the appology, I mean!). Sorry.
