I Have A Question About The New Log Out Timer Mechanic.
djporternz replied to Deathlove's topic in General Discussion
It was never intended that a player would/should be able to have two main weapons. I doubt you'll get any concession on this until we get tents or other persistant off-character storage. -
Well done combat loggers and Server hoppers!
djporternz replied to Z0mbi3z's topic in New Player Discussion
Good for you, that's the spirit! Of course, your math is crap! If you jump servers you are going to have to wait 5 minutes between servers. It isn't going to be 13. 13 * 5 mins = 1 hr 5 mins. You'll be lucky to get 8. You'll still have to find the loot per server and that isn't going to be guaranteed. But if you're willing to spend 40~50 mins per hour looking at a countdown timer and 5~10 mins actually playing the game (though I'm loathe to call this 'playing the game') in the vain hope that you'll hit a server that hasn't already been looted, you go right ahead and do it. You also have to take all those 30 s of NOT being in control of your character when you log out. To maximise your chances of fat loots you'll be logging out in the most high risk areas and I'm betting anyone who glimpses you sitting on the floor is quite possibly going to take the easy kills as they present themselves. TBH, it's going to cost you a lot in time, and you'll probably lose all that loot as soon as you encounter someone who actually knows what they are doing. But don't let us or common sense stop you! But when you log in and find all that loot you spent so much empty time colleting is gone, please DON'T post on the forums. I doubt anyone will be sympathetic to someone still trying to exploit this game in this way. -
I'm with KoS on this one. I've played with the evolution of the control setup in this engine from OFP and up through the ArmA series. The controls have always sided with realistic response rather than the usual FPS twitch crap of other shooters. Could it be better? Probably, but it is completely adequate ATM.

Patch at the end of this week should see to a lot of this. Judging from the whiney posts already appearing the Combat Loggers/Ghosters/Server Jumping players are already feeling victimised. Serves them right! Their blatant abuse of these exploits brought them front and centre as the number one priority for a fix by the Devs. Roll on next weekend, I say. PS: Details, details... 30 s log out timer... You log out IMMEDIATELY, but your character sits down in game for the full 30 s before being removed. 260 s Re-log timer if you weren't in your previous server for 30 minutes. This is currently implemented on the Experimental; servers and is working as intended. -
What do we really want as far as Character Progression?
djporternz replied to crimsonbzd's topic in Suggestions
Nothing that equates to an advantage to one player over another. Cosmetic things are ok. Anything else is not needed or required and would simply be something that players would grind for. All players should start out the same, and should stay that way (except for location, gear, etc.) -
Anything that encourages wider use of the blood bag is bad, IMHO. I, for one, remove them from play whenever I find one, and I play a medic exclusively. Your last suggestion has merit. I've got something similar stickied to my monitor, but would be good to have an in-game mechanic for refreshing my failing memory. Multiple use self-contained blood test kits don't exist in RL. There's a reason for that! So no to that. If there was a reasonably high cross-infection mechanic from doing it anyway, then I'd give it a possible maybe. Test kits in Med kit also gets a thumbs down from me. They should be reasonably hard to find. Likewise, it should be dangerous for an untrained person to try and perform something as risky as a blood transfusion. There's a reason these aren't routinely done in the field. That';s why we have saline. Its safe and effective and does the job without the inherent risk of blood products.

ATM if you paint your Mosin, you are quite properly sent to single round hell for defacing a work of art! Unfortunately they fixed this in the new patch, so you'll get a free get out of hell card when that hits at he end of this week.

More consequences of your actions? (Like or dislike in the polls)
djporternz replied to Ljungen81's topic in Suggestions
No no no. Spawn/Respawn is perfect the way it is. I don't need some point system and GAMEBREAKING free gear at start system to get into DayZ. I also don't need an in game moral system to tell me I'm a good boy or an arsehat. I know which I am already. No again to the random shirts. I am quite capable of choosing my role in game without it being forced on me by the engine. Although having the shirts in game would be okay, but as normal loot spawns. -
If you don't want to rely on the doors, just check for Zs. If there are no Zs, there is usually no loot left either.

Enemies spotting me in the bushes

I don't think anyone has done a video guide on how effective concealment/cover is in the DayZ engine under the various detail settings. It sure would be interesting if some dedicated group were to make such a video guide for the rest of us... Hint... Hint.... Anyone? -
The current implementation of the logout timer is trollish.
djporternz replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Nothing emotional about my reporting of the facts. They aren't going to tell you how to exploit the system that they have decided not to use. Even if they did implement it they aren't going to detail the exploits. Your proposal failed in testing using whatever criteria they were testing it against. I don't know what that criteria was, but they know their systems better than I, or you for that matter. It doesn't come across as an edict from Dean, but rather a mutually discovered concensus that there was a failure and that the current implementation on the experimental servers was the best compremise they have to solve the issues as they see them. I'll defer to Dean and the other Devs. They are the only ones at this time that have the whole picture available to them. NOTE: The system they tested wasn't exactly the system you proposed in your OP, so I accept the mischaracterisation of your arguement. It doesn't materially effect my points so I'll let them stand as I have made them, with that proviso in mind. -
Dear 88 Industries, Thanks to your recomendation of the heavily modified AR-15, my days as a kindergarten teacher are now much more enjoyable. At first I wasn't too sure it was the right rifle for me, but with it in my hands I am now, truly 'Awesome' as promised by your eloquent sales staff. Furthermore I have not been sworn at by a 3 and a half year old or their parents for over a week, and there has been only negligible collateral damage. Thanks again for your wonderful product. Agreed. Stances... Mmmmm yaaa.... But since they refer to the engine as RV2.5 I'd assume ArmA 2 version ballistics. Unfortunately there is no video that I can find that tries to demonstrate the ballistic penetration in that engine. I agree, also, that if the model isn't in there ATM, it may be difficult to regig later.

But where's the fun in that? But it's no biggy. Die of starvation or poisoning on the Exp server. At least the poisoning was sort of educational!

djporternz replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Then all I can do is leave you with Dean's quote from the above link: -
Not sure what the ballistics model in DayZ is, but if they could implement the ArmA 3 model, I'd be more than happy.

What will make you play the alpha again?
djporternz replied to Igglas Cage's topic in General Discussion
I'll only play on days with a 'y' in their name. Until then I'm out, sorry. -

djporternz replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Actually I did understand you. That's the problem. You are continuing to argue for an implementation that the Devs have already ruled out after trying it internally on their own server. They have decided to go with the current implementation because it does not suffer from the flaws of the OPs proposed design. While you are quite welcome to continue to push for this proposal, as the Devs have already ruled it out, TBH, you're wasting effort. EDIT: Sorry, it took a while to find this link: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169616-reddit-rocket2guns-on-30-second-logout-timer-in-next-build-confirmed-by-rocket-subject-to-change/?hl=%2Blogout+%2Btimer+%2Breddit Go and read it. Case 2 is a direct implementation of the OPs proposal. Are we done now? -

Not. Going. To. Happen. I'm sad for you :-( -
I know this one... give me a minute.... The Internets! Am I right? What do I win?

I am presently playing on the Exp servers, but BE has been activated on the current Stable builds. I think that people aren't actually using the .pbo exploits as much as it would appear they are. There are other hacks out there that have similar functionality, but for the most part a lot of the glitches we are seeing in game are more due to the vaguaries of the internet and the fact that DayZ still has a lot of holes in the code. I also may not be seeing much of this since I've switched to the Hardcore servers almost exclusively, and they attract a different class of player than the Regular servers (No disrespect intended to anyone.).
-
If we have an organisational structure capable of organising an air drop as you have proposed, where, pray tell, are the ground troops to push back the Zs? And why are we pissing around in Chernarus and not heading to their bastion of civilisation? Sorry, this just doesn't make too much sense!
-
Check again, Sir! People are being regularly kicked from servers by BE for file integrity errors, and as I said in my post this may not get you a ban, but you also won't be able to play on a BE protected server. But this doesn't mean that you won't get a Global Ban in the future.

Wrong in so many ways!
