Usually when I get shot at, or shot, I yell an expletive and try and find cover to bandage. I was at NW airfield one time where I was shot 3 times, by 3 different people, and still managed to find cover and bandage. I did get away, but barely.

Players have to wait 5 minutes to switch from one server to another. When logging out they have to wait 1 minute before their character is actually logged out. Reasons People Server Hop 1. I'm being shot at, or a I am being chased by a giant horde. *This is just wrong, you reap what you sow when it comes to zombies, and when you get shot at find cover and retreat. 2. I am a bandit and I want to log out so that I can spawn in behind some cornered prey. *1 minute log out time means they have to at least take cover, 10 minute wait time from server hopping gives the "prey" time to escape. 3. I'm sick of waiting for loot to spawn, i'll just server hop. *5 minute wait time between servers will make this stupid practice more dull and hopefully will deter those with short attention spans.

The PvP problem is simply human nature. Weapons + People = Violence Towards each other, and towards everything else. Violence can only be controlled with counter violence, or social controls (i.e. Police, Prisons). The Zombie Apocalypse means that any social controls were lost. Social controls seek to take away either weapons or humanity (freewill) from the equation in order to keep violence from being the result. Rocket has already stated that he doesn't wish to implement in the game any type of system that takes away the freewill of the players. And any attempts to take away guns would be unpopular. Essentially there is no solution, PvP is a fact. If people wish to being some kind of order to the servers that they play on, they will need to create the social controls that once existed. Police forces, militias, security forces etc... These forces would not stop PvP, but would use counter violence against Bandits in order to create a sense of peace for the rest of their server. -
Yah, we used to have a base on Seattle 8 server. It was in the middle of nowhere. My friend was alone at camp, when a heli lands near the camp the guy gets out with all silenced gear and ghilli suit, and one shots my friend. He doesn't take anything from our well stocked tents, just kills our friend and takes off. My friend did have all SD gear.

Will the game eventually become a zombie survival game?

I don't want it to be a Zombie Survival Game. I want it to be a Zombie Survival Simulator. -
Every time I don't shoot, I regret it.
istari766 replied to Kashus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I only shoot if I am spotted and feel threatened. Even if I see someone with good gear, I keep them under observation, and see if there is a way to avoid them. If i can't avoid them, or if they spot me, then the fighting begins. The most i'm willing to help strangers is to shoot zeds off of them from a distance, or throw a smoke grenade to get the zeds off of them. If they want me to get close, forget it. I usually play with my buddies, and those are the only people is trust 100%. -

Here is my constructive suggestion for the day. Stop trying to force morality into the game. Even if morality was forced in the game, the only consequences to morality are socially constructed. When there is no police or government, there are no consequences. Most moral consequences that aren't part of social constructs are religious, and I don't think people are worried about going to hell in game. (Debug forest maybe). I suppose another consequence of acting "immoral" would be that everyone hates you and doesn't want to help you, which as a bandit is already the case. You shoot at people, people start to shoot back. What this game needs is Amoral solutions that benefit all players no matter what their "moral preference" is. Mechanics that make the game interesting and fair for everyone is what we need. -
Yah I attempted to vault some rubble and ended up bleeding, knocked unconscious and having a broken leg. Bad times, especially in NW airfield where the sound of your screams is the dinner bell for the zeds.

Less weapon spawn + no starter weapon = GG

Part of it is just experience. I died yesterday and spawned outside of Cherno. I've played enough to know my surroundings without needing a map, at least on the coast. So I headed to Balota Airfield, found a shotgun, with a little bit of ammo, almost got killed by zombies, but I managed to run and hide. Got away with 7k blood. Headed into Cherno, got food, drink, a sidearm, and some basic tools. I was sneaky most of the time, I managed to anger some zombies, but ran indoors and took out the ones that followed. I also was spooked by some survivors and shot and killed them because they were armed. After I got out of there I had about 5k blood, then I headed north off of the coast where the survival rate gets much much higher. -
Two big problems that I see right now in the game. Broken bones are too common, and kiting is the tactic of choice. Some of the broken bones are a result of glitches, however the zombie inflicted broken bones I think are a bit silly. Kiting (as it's used in it's current state) wouldn't be as good of a tactic in reality because of stamina. But because there is no stamina system in sight, I propose another solution. Instead of zombies breaking bones with their swipes, they should knock people down to prone. I think it should be a fairly common occurrence on hit, and would replace broken bones and reduce the amount of kiting. When you see someone get hit, whether it be in the movies or in a street fight, getting knocked down is much more common then breaking bones. I do however think broken bones have a place in the world, but only for falls 10ft+, gunshot wounds, getting hit or wrecking vehicles.

There are a lot of things that need to be fixed in this game, and a lot of possible mechanics and content that could be added. What I think is one of the goals of the dev team is to not judge a person's play style. Morality is ultimately up to the person playing the game, and choices of morality should not be forced upon a person in the game. Therefore, we need to be looking at amoral solutions and mechanics. More mechanics and interactions between players would be amoral, so let's start there. -Setting a broken bone and placing a splint on said broken bone. -CPR to help dying team mates (percent chance to survive) -Applying pressure to wounds to slow/stop bleeding, if there are no bandages, or in an emergency situations. (percent chance to stop, but would always slow) -Scroll menu option to give someone ammo for the gun they have without having to get into backpack and manage. Basically a resupply option. Handing someone a fresh clip. Let's see if the community can come up with some more for rocket to browse. And let's end this war on morality.

I've been a big proponent of splints for a while. Though personally I think the broken bone should be set by another player before it's splinted. As far as morphine goes, I don't think it needs to be more common, unless the country we are in had severe drug problems. I think that another good alternative to leg breaking, would be to be knocked to prone by zombies. This would cause you to frantically have to get up still, but you wouldn't be out of a leg. I believe that broken legs should be reserved for big fall damage 10ft+, getting hit by vehicles, and gunshot wounds.

Yah I noticed this on the Seattle server hosted by the Spartans. Barracks at NW airfield was wired shut. Just wish I had a toolbox, I would of taken them down for good.

The topic of realism and player killing
istari766 replied to fml's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason people wouldn't kill each other IRL is because of having a conscience or because they are desperate for human interaction i.e. they are lonely. However this is a game, and with all games, these things get thrown out the window for many people. The only people that would be playing "how they should be" are people that enjoy role playing, which is usually a minority. So how do you "fix" this problem. Well you could implement penalties for people who don't conform to this "realistic" way of playing, or you could give benefits to people who do. None of these implementations would be particularly realistic mind you. But would nudge people in one direction or another. Personally I am a a fan of benefits for team players, I think team work should be useful. But I don't think it should punish solo players, simply make it harder for them to accomplish certain things. And I think it should be amoral, that is, it should benefit bandit groups just as much as friendly groups. But that is my opinion. -

I feel like the starting load out should reflect one of the following situations. 1. You wake up in the morning to find zombies outside, you don't know what they are but crisis is all around you. You want to get out and go! -One Food, One Water, That's it. 2. You wake up in the morning and news of the zombie apocalypse is spreading. You have a little bit a of time to prepare, but not much. -Current load out, with fewer clips of ammunition, and certainly no morphine. -

No Heartbeat sound immediately after player kill. Nervousness and Paranoia symptoms vanish over time. Short term effect yes, long term no.
