You can not jump start a heart that stopped beating!!!

Yeah the possibilities are endless. They could carry a small amount of loot, they could help stalk your prey while hunting, they could defend you against animals, zombies or players. they could be a form of overwatch (if sleeping ever gets implemented). etc. etc.

^This Sorry man, you saying "the state of the game is pathetic even for an alpha" shows that you do not understand what an alpha is. Not trying to be a dick here, but it's true. You have no clue what alpha means. None, zero! The state the game is right now, in this very second, is called alpha. Nothing more nothing less. There is nothing "pathetic" about it. I usually hate the all mighty "it's alpha answer", but this time it fits perfectly. IT'S ALPHA! No, whats utterly disappointing is, that those people say or think they know what it means.. When the very first sentence they write shows that they don't...

These Vehicles And Clothing - Lore Friendly Suggestion
phoboss replied to King of kong's topic in Suggestions
And why is that? Everybody is obsessed with realism, so why is it "unrealistic" to find a tank? Its a zombie apocalypse not an alien invasion. Zombies don't destroy all the military gear. The soldiers died, but what happened to the tanks they used? -
Welcome to the Internet! :D

L2P All that is going to happen. Zombies are going to become a much bigger threat eventually. And you will have to work together for multiple reasons. Also Gear already gets destroyed when you get shot. Way to much if you ask me. (One Bullet can not destroy all equipment I have on me, as it does right now, but thats another issue). But none of that is going to stop people from being bandits. The only thing that's going to stop them is YOU! YOU need to learn to avoid them.YOU need to learn to spot them early.YOU need to attack them first.YOU need to learn to defend yourself against them. No we don't know how you play, but you come onto the forums and tell us about how often you get killed by bandits and that the game needs to put an end to this. That tells us, that you're doing something wrong. Because the DayZ veterans here don't have the same problem as you. Because they learned to adapt. They learned how to avoid or fight the bandits. KoS bothers me as well, because it takes so much away from the game. And I'm not talking about bandits killing or hunting me for my gear. I'm talking about almost everybody killing every other player they see. It sets a precedent, which will carry on for a very long time, that leaves so much of the game unexplored. The human interaction being one thing. If you want to play a well geared bandit who hunts other players thats fine by me, I do that too. But running around and killing every single person you see is not only ruining the game, its very very unrealistic (which everyone here seems to use as a reason for everything). In real life you feel compassion and empathy for other people. So what this reflects to the real world is, that 95% of the world is filled with mindless sociopaths. Because you don't kill them for their gear (which would be fine, because in real life a catastrophic event like this would bring that out in people), but you kill them for ... I don't know, fun. And that just wouldn't happen this much in real life. You would defend yourself, or maybe kill the occasional fellow survivor if you need food or medicine they have, but not for fun. Not in that magnitude. Sure there would be some people killing others for the fun of it, but not 95% of the population. I'm sorry, its just not realistic. Not saying movies or tv shows are realistic, but look at the apocalypse movies/tv shows out there. I can't remember seeing a single one where people would run around killing every other person just for fun. There is "The Road" where the only real option against starvation is cannibalism, and if that where the case in DayZ I'd say "OK, you can only survive by eating other players, so you HAVE to kill them", but that is not the case. So give me the real world equivalent of why people in DayZ kill others. Banditry definitely is realistic and I have nothing against it!

Maybe instead of sleeping, you could have "resting" option for the purpose you're describing. You know, you just lay down and rest for a couple of minutes. It won't regenerate your wounds or anything, but it will boost stamina a bit e.g.

Why is the goal; servers able to support 150 players?
phoboss replied to AlfalphaCat's topic in Suggestions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygs3hj8J730 Oh HEEEELL no! I'm sorry but this is not a PvE game. It's DayZ! And that means its brutal, its ruthless, its ridiculously hard (or at least it will be) and its about realism (to a certain degree). So nope, never EVER going to happen. -
Big difference between mod and SA is, they can rewrite as much code as they want. Just a question of time and money. I think Dean talked about this as something he is very interested in doing, so I think its a very likely possibility at some point in time. Maybe not this year, but some time...
-
Nobody is talking about that. That is something Rust does, and its a terrible TERRIBLE idea.

I think sleep while logged in would not be very realistic, and that is the general goal for dayz. Sleeping for 10 minutes would have no real affect on your health or rested state. (aside from a power nap maybe). But if you could go to sleep before you log out, and depending on where you sleep you get a certain buff, or a very mild debut. So for example if you have tent and a sleeping bag and have started a fire you will be very well rested and maybe regenerated some health and sickness got better when you log in the next time. Or if you sleep under a tree without any form of shelter you will be untested or maybe even have a cold when you login. You could also use houses for example, which will maybe be the best form of sleep you can get but in return you have a small chance of being attacked by zombies, and when you login, it's like you woke up because of the zombies and you have to fight them off first. Just as a general outline what would be possible.

Dayz Standalone will not survive without epoch style base building
phoboss replied to papermilk's topic in Suggestions
Don't get me wrong, I'm a private Hive guy myself, because in my opinion it fixes problems liike server hopping and ghosting. I'm just saying that player made constructions will have certain limitations when it comes to a central hive. -
Doesn't have to be radiation, could be chemical spill or biohazard from a secret lab where they "created" patient zero. But some place with rare loot where you have to have certain gear to be able to enter. like hazmat suite 'n shit.
-
Although I'm not totally against NPCs in the game, I'm definitely against them punishing KoS.

phoboss replied to AlfalphaCat's topic in Suggestions
Yep we need much more player interaction! With 50 people on the server you can hide out in certain places for ever and pick off lone wolfs one after the other. With 150 people there will be much more players around to hear you (scream ;)) shoot someone. -
Dayz Standalone will not survive without epoch style base building
phoboss replied to papermilk's topic in Suggestions
Big challenge will be to implement them well into the hive. How and where will bases be saved? Only on the Server? Will defeat the purpose of the hive. In the hive? Then how will they transfer to a new server? What if someone else on that server has a base in the right exact spot as you? That was actually pretty common in Epoch or Origins. You could switch servers and find bases in the same position as yours on a new server. also will they be destructible while offline? this will force people to play in order to defend or repair their base. to many unanswered questions for now. -
And I'm telling you, you're wrong. People combatlog because they don't want to die and lose all the gear they gathered. But you don't die just because people Kill on sight. If you attack me, and I fire back at you and you get wounded in the process, you can hardly call that KoS. But you'd still die and lose all your stuff, so you combatlog, go onto a new server, bandage, maybe use saline or blood bag with a friend and then come back to my server to hunt me down. KoS stands for kill on sight. which means killing someone as soon as you lay eyes on them. and that can not be (nor should they try) fixed. it's part of the game's mechanics. If you disagree, I'd encourage you to watch movies like "the road". people are ruthless when it comes to survival. and in this scenario its mostly kill or be killed. But its hardly the only reason people kill each other. And because of that, "fixing" KoS will have no effect on combatlogging. Even if they could fix KoS, which they can't, people would still combatlog, when they get wounded or are in danger of losing their gear (through death or robbery).
-
all in all a really great idea! and plays well with the realism Dean is going for. In real life you have to sleep, and nothing beats a good night sleep when it comes to becoming healthy when sick or wounded. maybe it could even help regenerate when you're wounded or sick.
-
I'm sorry but you're completely wrong. Read my initial posting. Especially the definition of combatlogging. Combatlogging is logging out of the game when your character is in danger of being detained, robbed, wounded or killed. Being KoS'd is not the only reason people combatlog. They could combatloged because they're attacked by zombies, because someone is trying to rob them, because the got wounded in a firefight THEY started and a bunch of other reasons. "Fixing" KoS has no affect on combatlogging. (Besides KoS does not need "fixing". But thats something for another thread)
-
IF they ever make it into the game.
-
That's actually a really good idea! Beans for you! You should make a thread in the suggestion forum about that!
-
True, if a mod would move this thread there, I'd be totally down with that ;) But like I said, look at the date of my orignal post and then take a look at the first post in the suggestions forum. You'll come to the conclusion that that forum wasn't around when I created this thread ;) At least I think it wasn't.
-
Oh yeah you're right, hadn't noticed that before.

Nobody said anything about him not knowing what he's doing. But one of the reasons for an open alpha test is, that you get MUCH more feedback about the game. You have literally a million people thinking about ways of how to improve the game, instead of the 20 people you have in the dev team. And it wouldn't be the first time that someone on the forums had an idea nobody in the dev team had thought of before and that then actually gets implemented. Sometimes your to close to see the solution. I'm not saying that this is the case here, or that I found the ultimate solution, I simply had an idea and I wrote it down to maybe, just maybe, inspire the dev team with some fresh thoughts. It's definitely better than just whining about the problem.
