How to fix KoS and banditry with this great system
phoboss replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
Thats basically what I meant by saying "banditry is absolutly realistic and has a place in the game". Watch the movie "The Road", it's sickening what people do to each other. But you don't see them killing each other for fun, at least not in the amount it happens in DayZ. They do it to survive! And thats a very different thing. -
How to fix KoS and banditry with this great system

You obviously have not read the post, (for which I don't blame you, its a lot of text, and I usually don't read posts that long), so do me a favor and read the first and last couple of sentences ;) -
We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
phoboss replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
No, for the reason why not, please the the thread linked in my sig (the second one) -
Not sure if joking or not, but horses would actually be a really great idea! :D

These Vehicles And Clothing - Lore Friendly Suggestion
phoboss replied to King of kong's topic in Suggestions
Well you could make them ridiculously hard to repair/maintain. But that's besides the point. I was simply arguing in a matter almost everybody on this board does. Every suggestion someone makes gets broken down to realism. If its realistic and has a connection to real life, its a good idea, if not, its a bad idea. So long story short. Tanks suddenly disappearing in a zombie apocalypse is totally unrealistic! So at least in military bases there should be a couple standing around. I mean you can see wrecks of them everywhere. So from a realism point of view, they should be fixable. (ridiculously hard to do of course). -
Because there is no connection to real life. In real life you can't see from 400m away if I'm a "bad guy" or not. Sure you could argue that everybody has a conscience, and that should be reflected in the game. The thing is, you're trying to fix two things with one solution and that just wont work. Banditry and KoS are not the same thing. Thus can't be fixed with a conscience/sanity system. (besides banditry doesn't need "fixing"). Is KoS totally unrealistic and a problem in the game? Yes absolutely! Can it be fixed by implementing a feature that punishes or rewards a certain playstyle (hero/bandit system)? No it can't.
-
Ok understood, but what is it exactly what you would like to "fix"? Banditry will always be a big part of DayZ, that will never change. KoS is somewhat of a problem, like I said before, I see that as well. But there is no easy fix for that. Any kind of mechanic to punish or reward a certain kind of gameplay will also never be implemented. It's just not going to happen. You have to accept that. Rocket said many times. This is his vision and he will make the game he wants. And in his vision there is no place for a sanity/conscience system. And most people who've been playing DayZ for a while agree with that. The only thing you can hope for is that the game will get so ridiculously hard, that you HAVE to play together in order to have a fighting chance of survival. Super strong zombies who will jump on you from hundreds of meters away as soon as you fire a shot and stuff like that. But a gameplay mechanic like it is suggested here on the forums daily will never happen.

I agree. I've played since the mod first came out and so have most of my friends. So we kinda adapted to this game mechanic. As with most veteran players, you can pretty much drop me anywhere on the map and I will find my way to the place I want to go without a map or a compass. But you also have to think about the new players. And for them it is very frustrating to find each other. And many people play games to play them with their friends. DayZ makes this overly complicated/hard for new players.
-
I haven't. Read again. If you hit ALT+F4 or pull your network cable or whatever else, its considered a combatlog. And the appropriate mechanic comes into play.

Challenge and PvP
-
You might see it that way, but the majority thinks its even less fun having to find your friends for 2 hours if all you want is to play together for a little while. Besides what you're describing will never happen. He specifically said that he would only allow this if you're all dead at the same time. So when do you ever see groups of 15 people dying together and then respawning.
-
Solid ideas, and I wouldn't go so far as to say they will never be implemented, but it's a lot of work and will, if ever, be implemented really really late in the development cycle.

Whats your Preference Private or Public Hives?
phoboss replied to Mcleane's topic in General Discussion
Pro for all: You have a choice. No one is forcing you to play on either one. Public: Pro: you can switch the server if you encounter bad performance, a hacker or anything else you don't like about the server Con: It encourages people to ghost, server hop and combatlog. Private: Pro: No ghosting or server hopping. Combatlogging only to a certain degree. (You could leave, but can't be sure the guys attacking you aren't still there when you come back.) You can somewhat develop a own community on your server. People get to know each other, and its much more likely to run into someone again. Con: If the server sucks, crashes, goes down, your char is lost. You can't escape bad admins or hackers. -
REspawning together with a friend is something rocket is thinking about. He said that in one of his Q&A streams a couple months back. Spawning ON a friend is not. Obviously.
-
Really bad argument and besides the point. This game is set in a fictional zombie apocalypse, but everything else is supposed to be as real as possible. And you just dying randomly for shooting someone is not very realistic. Nor is having bad luck. (or any luck for that matter). Do yourself a favor and just let this thread die really quickly. Not to be a dick, but your idea is really really bad and will never EVER happen. I'd give you all the money I have in the bank right now if this or anything similar was ever implemented.

Combat Logging - Massive Game Killer for DayZ

QFT. How do you know a problem is a problem when nobody talks about it? How do you know how big a problem is, if it only gets mentioned one time? -
Combat Logging - Massive Game Killer for DayZ
phoboss replied to crusader_111's topic in General Discussion
please see my signature for a possible solution. having just a logout timer would not be enough to combat the "meta game problems" that are, ghosting, combatlogging and serverhopping. -
Spawn improvement idea (mainly for server hopping)
phoboss replied to komadose's topic in Suggestions
Don't worry, they won't because the idea is just not practical. -
Spawn improvement idea (mainly for server hopping)

No. -
I see. Well then.... I'll be calling the looney bin now ;)
-
Well that can be compensated for by simply not making the sound louder but just heard over a greater distance ;)
-
I think more hand signals would be really awsome. as well as the ability to shout really loud. Maybe with a second PTT key, where the engine just amplifies your voice or something. just so you can be heard over a greater distance. But more hand signals are a must have imho. So you can communicate with your squad without talking. Like, "Stop!", "I see X enemies" etc,..
-
But how would you communicate with it? Visual queues would be very hard to see, once the mouse is more than 10m away from you.
