Loot not respawning is of course not part of what I'm talking about. If you discover that the server you're on is picked clean, server hopping is totally justified. But going into the barracks, and then switching servers 10-15 times to pick the loot out of them is just wrong and should be punishable by death. And I'm talking real life death, not ingame. If you do something like that, your mouse should send out an electric pulse of 10.000V and kill you. End of story! ;)

Banditry != KoS Being a bandit is not the same as killing everyone on sight.

How to fix KoS and banditry with this great system
phoboss replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
Zombies will be improved over time. It's a performance issue at the moment. Once that's fixed, zombie counts will increase and the AI will get better. Like I said in the original post a sanity system is not a viable option because it punishes a certain playstyle. Which is not in everyones interest and therefor has no place in DayZ. For every idea you think of you have to ask yourself one simple question. Does it affect everyone equally? If the answer is no, then it will not get implemented into DayZ. -
QFT! Just because you have issues with your account, they should drop steam all together? That sounds reasonable... Also you keep saying your account wasn't hacked, but then explain to me why steam is sending the verification mail to the wrong address? Makes no sense. Sounds to me that someone did hack your account and then set up a different email address. And now you're locked out. In any case this has NOTHING to do with DayZ what so ever...

What he said... I can't think of a reason why switching views with the appropriate key shouldn't work when everything else does. Also: Wrong forum.

Suggestion - disable VOIP during gameplay
phoboss replied to conan the librarian's topic in Suggestions
Can't we put this to rest? It's a ridiculous idea and not viable. You can't block VOIP programs on the OS level for obvious reasons. And even if you could, people would find different ways, like using a second computer a smartphone or whatever else they can think of. Secondly, having the mic in always on mode would be the worst thing that could be done. Some people have screaming kids in the background, a mother or girlfriend who won't shut up, a friend sitting next to them talking, you name it. And the "cancel out background noise option" does not do what you think it does. It doesn't magically detect what's in the background and what isn't. It simply records from two different angles, where one is closer to your mouth, thus making our voice louder, and the background quieter and then just renders out the noise that is quieter (the background noise). -
True. In the end, it's not like DayZ has a lore behind it like Warcraft. With books and hundreds of hours of content. Rocket never wrote "the lore of DayZ". Everybody just makes up their own stuff and their own explanation. So in the end, I guess you're right. There is no right or wrong here.

It seems to be a general problem of DayZ players that they can't accept someone else wanting to play the game differently. I don't understand why. I certainly agree that non permadeath would be a horrible idea, because it goes completely against what DayZ is, BUT why should I care if someone has the option to play that way on his own private hive? I just don't get it. In my mind it makes no sense what so ever. It doesn't affect you in any way! And that's a logic you can't argue against. If it doesn't affect you, why do you care? If I want the zombies turned into little ponies on my sever, that I pay for, why should you care?

SA - Please no Ghillie Suits but how about Rain Coats ? and some changes on backpacks ?
phoboss replied to angrybird9's topic in Suggestions
Good to know. Thanks for sharing. -
It does. But then ALL of them would be doing it. Not just some.

phoboss replied to angrybird9's topic in Suggestions
You should be able to craft your own ghillie from bushes and trees. -
It wouldn't make much of a difference, see my answer above. Why are they banding together in a horde? Where are they going?
-
completely agree! Why would some zombies "decide" to wander around the map and others wouldn't? And why would they band together in a horde? Where are they going and why? A general increase in numbers is coming once the servers can handle it performance wise. And I hope they will add zombies all over the map not just the towns. But giant hordes don't make much sense I believe.
-
Well that argument makes somewhat sense and doesn't at the same time. Because you miraculously "respawning" after you got killed is completely unrealistic in itself already. So unless you turn of respawn all together, it makes no difference if your char comes back as a zombies or not. People already go and loot their own corpses anyway. And I like to think of it as a new person rather then the same one. For the above reason. All the realism talk aside, simply from a diversity point of view, I love the idea. Have my beans good sir. Seeing zombies run around that look like players at first would be great for the gameplay. Them having backpacks, maybe even a shouldered gun on them would make the world feel more "real".
-
Idea shattered in 5 seconds! Have my beans good sir :D Also this is basically just "Battle Royal". Without the last man standing.

Like I said, destructibility isn't my problem, the being offline part is. All realism aside, this is still a game, even if rocket sometimes thinks it's not. And people need to take brakes from games. And the effort I put into it, shouldn't be taken away from me, while I'm at work or asleep, when I have no way of defending or even knowing about it. That favors people who have more time to play more then it does those that don't.
-
That is true, BUT in real life people don't all look somewhat the same. You'd recognize someone over quite some distance simply by their face. In DayZ this isn't possible because faces are way to hard to distinguish.
-
While I do agree, that it's somewhat unrealistic that you would start building your own house, when the world is full of abandoned ones, it gives people something to do. And endgame content is something the original mod was always lacking. I'd like it a lot more if you could "claim" a house somewhere and fortify it against enemies. But that would bring all kinds of new problems with it.
-
It worked? Like hell it did! Sorry, but Origins approach to this was HORRIBLE at best. First off, you couldn't destroy buildings, so that was a plus, but you had to log in every 10 days to access your house in order to "save" it. So when I wen't on a 3 week vacation I had to extract my ArmA 2 and ArmA 2 OA keys out of my registry and give them to a friend so he could access my account and save my house for me while I was away.... Explain to me, how this is a good approach?! And while I do think there will be no way around destructible housing I still think it's a bad idea. You can't defend your base while offline, and it's just not fair to people who don't have time to come online every day. And also it's totally unrealistic. In real life, if there were an apocalypse and me and my friends settled down somewhere in the world, build a base and started living there. There would ALWAYS be someone to watch over it at all times (or at least in the vicinity). But in the game we have to go offline at some point. Thus rendering the base defenseless. And not because we're to stupid to defend it, or we got killed while trying, but simply because we're a sleep, at work, on vacation or what ever. So unless your character becomes a NPC while your offline who defends your base for you (which will never happen, because rocket doesn't want NPCs in DayZ), I don't think its the right way to go. I at least need to have a chance to defend it (me). I have no problem with losing my stuff if I had a chance to save it. But if I'm at work and someone simply shoots my house to peaces because no one is around, it's a horrible idea. Destructible yes, but not while your offline.

Not another redicilious timer suggestion, this is a real one.
phoboss replied to DayzForumer's topic in Suggestions
A general "you can't logout as long as there are enemies nearby" is a bad idea for multiple reasons. First how big a radius would it be? 100m is to little because if someone is 700m away with a sniper rifle, shooting at you, you still shouldn't be able to log out. But 700m is to large because there could be players nearby that are not hostile and you simply need to leave for what ever reason. -
Hehe. Well the post from ManBearus was a challenge I can tell you that. ;) Comments, and especially choice of words like that get my blood boiling. "I have the right to disconnect because it's unfair that he has a gun". Just WOW! Really?! The game is unfair, and that makes it OK to cheat? Do you say that during a round of monopoly if someone has a perfect dice roll and wins the game? In case you didn't realize it, this isn't WoW ;)With a simple timer I could still hide in a building for a couple of seconds and disconnect. Which, given the nature of PvP in DayZ isn't enough time for the opponent to advance on the location and take me out.
-
Has been discussed before. Staying inside the game world is the dumbest idea somebody ever had while making a game like this. For one simple reason. It forces you to play frequently. Even with housing, they would be destructible, which means, if you go offline long enough, someone will come and destroy it. So if I build me a nice little house for a couple of hours and then go on vacation for 2 weeks, not only will the house be gone, my char will be dead as well. So in short, this will NEVER happen, and if it will, people will go ape shit! I do not get why anyone would like this... It forces me to play daily, if I want my char to survive. So I have to come online and check my house for damage, and repair it if necessary. If I don't it will get destroyed and I couldn't do anything to stop it, aside from coming online every day.

I made a lengthy thread about the logout process as well as combat logging and another thread about KoS and the problems with it. See my sig for more info.

WHAT?! So you're telling me there will be more weapons than the M4, Mosin, .45 and the 357? You can't be serious! And a new backpack as well? Who came up with that idea?!! What a waist of development time! Idiots! They should fix the zombies! Silly silly devs... More weapons... pffff.
