I take it you never played paintball before? ;) I have my paintball gun loaded near my bed in case of a burglary. If I shoot my entire hopper in your face from 5-10m away, you're going down and are never coming back up again. You'd be lucky if you get away with a broken nose, and a lost eye or two ;)

I would enjoy this very much, as my avatar suggests, but I don't think it's something they will consider :)

New Stuff never found before and never mentioned in patch notes
phoboss replied to Funkmasterflex's topic in General Discussion
Not true. In fact it's the other way around. Most companies have a community manager. The thing you have to ask yourself is this. Do you want to pay one guy to do all the community work for you, OR do you want your developers and designers to talk to the community. Which would cost you a lot more. But anyway, it's just my personal opinion that a community manager could address a lot more questions the players have than what dean, matt and brian could. I mean Dean twittert yesterday that the patch could go live on the stable branch today. Of course everybody is wondering, is that still happening? But he might not have time to address those questions. Thats where a community manager would come in handy. Hell, I think people would do that job for free, if you gave them the proper communication channels. I know I would ;) -

Well they have a tracker for that (at least I hope they do), so they could just copy paste it. I think given the popularity of the game they should hire an official community manager. Who gives daily updates. -
Great idea! Also never heard it before... Not! No, just no!

I'm in the wrong? OK if you say so. Like I said I haven't made a single assumption about you, that wasn't established through facts. You call someone an idiot for saying something you don't like. That makes you immature, kids are immature. The word "kid" simply is an interchangeable term for immaturity in this case. I'm 30 yes, you know that from my profile. But where did I ever say I was older than you? I have no way of knowing how old you are. Again the term "kid" was just used very loosely in order to demonstrate that you were behaving immaturely. But you said which I never said. Gnahhh this time I'm really done. This is getting stupid. :D

What DayZ also needs to be even more realistic?
phoboss replied to Otis.Driftwood's topic in Suggestions
Like them all! But the one with the gas mask got me thinking. It sounds silly at first, because it just takes it one step to far. But think a little bit down the road in the development cycle. If things like airborne infections or even radiation or chemicals come into effect and the gas mask protects you from all these. You'd have to take the mask of in order to eat or drink or you might get exposed to said threats. Therefor you must plan your movement more carefully. In which areas are you going to be, do you need a gas mask, are you well enough fed in order to get through them? The other suggestions have been made before, but are still very good. Have my beans! -
So yeah really quick, I think you should be able to look "around" your backpack while in first person. I mean in real life I can just bend (edit:) twist my upper body to the side so I can look behind me (I just tried it with a large trekking backpack ;)). So having your view blocked by your backpack in first person mode seams kinda silly. Thats all, thanks!
-
Well that escalated quickly! :P

Where did I make an assumption about you, that wasn't established through an observation I made about you? You called someone an idiot who disagreed with you. That makes you immature. There's no assuming. It's a fact. You on the other hand made the assumption that I would do the same. AND made an assumption about my age. Where did I say I was older than you? Never even mentioned age, aside from the fact that you behaved immaturely. Also I'm done with this thread now. Have fun in WoW kiddo! Edit: Also: Everything that RazRaz said!
-
Yeah sure absolutely! It's not supposed to be a marker you can see from a mile away. It's just like you said, there, to compensate for the fact that you can't distinguish two people the same way you could in real life.
-
Bad choice of words on my part! :) But since you can't really twist in DayZ, there needs to be another option so that your view is not obscured by your backpack. That's what I'm going for. I mostly play 1st person only, but the big backpack is really hampering the gameplay a bit. (for me at least)

Not entirely true though. Alpha is for adding features and beta is for bug fixing. That's why a beta is also referred to as "feature complete". Just sayin. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Alpha last sentence ;)) But I get what your saying. They have their hands full with other stuff. But let's not go on any further about that. Point is, I made a suggestion and now the community can decide if they like it or not ;)
-
Well the initial problems would remain. 1. You could still identify a certain playstyle by looking at someone. 2. It favors one side more than the other. That's just something that rocket wants to avoid.
-
Well if someone replies with "you idiot", he sounds like a kid to me. Don't care how old you are, it's immature and doesn't help your case one bit. And please don't make assumptions about me, you don't know me. Back to topic, if you don't know if it has been suggested, how about using the search function? All of what you suggested has been suggested lots of times already, and the community to which you are very new (not that that is a bad thing), doesn't like NPC's, OR any kind of honor/ranking systems very much. Lets just leave it at that.
-
It was filled yes, and of course it's not "easy", but it's at least doable. I just think it's silly that you can't look behind you with a backpack on your back. If everybody disagrees, that's fine too ;) Wont lose any sleep about it.
-
You still didn't use the search function. NPC's have been talked about, and got the "will never happen" answer from rocket. So there's that.
-
I know that, but this doesn't seem to be an "it's alpha" issue. I think it's more "didn't really think about it all that much". And besides, giving feedback is what I'm here for. That's what I'm supposed to do during an alpha test. It's not like I'm crying or bitching about it. I simply made a suggestion about something that I think needs changing.
-
Calling people names will get you nowhere kid. Also your suggestion is reeeeeeeeeeeeeaallyyyyyy stupid, has been mentioned and crushed a gazillion times, and will never happen, ever.
-
I think it's a bug with the spray painted mosin. I had a normal one and could still load 5 rounds. After I spray painted it camo, I could only chamber one at a time. Also this is something for the feedback tracker not the general forum. (there is already a ticket open about it) http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=7185
-
Completely read over that :)
-
Did you try different M4's as well? Like has been said before, the weapon itself has a condition as well, you just can't see it at the moment because the tooltip is bugged.

Another one of those threads where a simple double facepalm isn't enough... Not only are there countless topics on this already, no there is a whole thread specifically about the new patch, where you could've asked your question. But instead you're to lazy to even look for a second and see if you can find the answer by yourself. I wish people would stop making theses threads. But I hope even more, that people would stop helping these people.

So the forum is pretty much full with topics regarding combatlogging. People complaining about it, people using it and people trying to fix it. For me combatlogging (and everything of the sort, ghosting, server hopping) are a major annoyance right now. I know rocket is working to fix it, and maybe even has a solution ready to be implemented. The goal of this thread is to maybe help him with a couple of ideas to make the solutions as failsafe as possible. I read a lot in the forums about the topic and I'm going to try and merge the best ideas I found together into one giant combatlogging fixing juggernaut ;). First we must define what combatlogging is. Here's what I think. Combatlogging is logging out of the game when your character is in danger of being detained, robbed, wounded or killed. Now in order to put a system in place which prevents players from combatlogging, we must determine when a player is actually at risk of becoming detained, robbed, wounded or killed (or in other words, is considered in combat) Number 1: Player is bleeding Number 2: Player is under attack either by 2.1) a zombie, which means he has alerted a zombie to his presence and said zombie is in pursuit or attacking the player. 2.2) another player, which means there was a hostile action towards the player (shots fired at or hit in a 100m radius around the player**), melee attack, the attempt to handcuff the player). Number 3: The player himself is attacking (again any kind of hostile action towards a zombie or another player like stated above) I think the "in combat state" should last 2 minutes. Meaning whenever one of the above 3 is true, there is a 2 minute timer for how long you are in combat. **There is one big problem with the "shots fired rule". How do you determine if the shots were meant for the player? You can either go by a given radius in which every shot fired would be considered a threat to the player, or by shots hit in the vicinity. In my opinion the first one is out of the question, because the radius would have to be to big (a sniper could in theory be shooting from 1km away). That leaves option 2, shots that hit or are shot in the vicinity of the player. I'd suggest a 100m radius. Now that we've determined when a player is considered in combat, the next thing would be how to handle logging out. There are 2 states. The normal logout: The player wants to quit, goes into the menu, gets a 15 second timer and then hits "Exit". This has been proven functional in many DayZ mods and is, in my opinion absolutely reasonable. After that, your character just normally disappears. And you can switch the server if you like. But after the switch you get a 1 minute delay, which gets multiplied by the factor 2, before you can switch again. Which would mean you can switch once without a delay but after that every server switch the timer would get multiplied by 2. Adding up to a total of 15 minutes. (Also gets reset every 30 minutes. Meaning if you play on a server for 30 minutes your timer gets reset) You can rejoin the last server as often as you like, as long as you didn't change the server in between. After that, you're banned from your last server for 15 minutes. (This is to prevent ghosting while still allowing you to take a break for what ever reason) OR The combatlog: The player is considered in combat and logs out, hits ALT+F4, pulls his network cable or what ever else he might think of. Now the player goes into a surrender position for 2 minutes where he just stands there with his hands up. Now the other party has 2 minutes to either shoot him or handcuff him (during this time the combatlogger is locked out from joining ANY server. This is to prevent him from coming back and shooting the other party while they are on the way over to handcuff him, and to prevent duplication of the items when he joins another server). If they handcuff him, they get a 5 minute time frame in which they can do what ever they want to him and the combatlogger gets logged back into the same server if he tries to join another server (this is so he can take back control of his character and continue playing it if he chooses). Like I said I combined many ideas I heard or read about in the last couple of days. And this is to be seen as a suggestion to the dev team as to how they can effectively prevent combatlogging, server hopping and ghosting. Some of it might seem a little harsh, like not being able to go to a different server for a total of 7 minutes after you combatlog. But you have to understand that combat and PvP is a big part of this game, and for many people the main reason to play. And because of this, there needs to be a punishment if you cheat other other players of the experience by just leaving the game. I hope you guys like it. Cheers! Edit: Added ghosting solution. Edit2: Added an idea Mr. Hyde had on Page 4 of this thread. I actually like solution B a lot, because it's very "simple". You want to log out? Fine by me, just run "here" and you can leave. It certainly would need some fine tuning, like give you a radius of X meters in which you can log out, so you can find a bush or something safe to log out. But in general a really great idea and it fixes a lot of problems. Thanks again for sharing Mr. Hye

Actually I like it a lot. That's not a bad idea at all! Just needs some fine tuning I suppose. Something like this: If you want to log out, you need to move 300m (gives you more of a choice, because of the legitimate concern chmielu1258 had) OR If you want to log out, you need to move 300m to random given area where you have a 100m radius in which you can log out. (again chmielu1258's concern of not being able to log out inside a bush or something) One Problem though, a lot of people will hate the idea because it makes you play longer before you can actually stop. Meaning, if I really really need to leave right now (for what ever reason), I'd have to play 2-4 minutes longer before I can leave (even when I'm not in combat). But me personally I don't have a problem with it. Combat is a big part of the game and it shouldn't be made to easy to avoid it. Again, really like the idea a lot! Thanks for sharing! Edit: I added your idea in the original post, hope you don't mind. Gave credit of course!
