    Rumored patch tomorrow?

Wow, just wow... I hope you're trolling. How demanding and needy can you be?

Server hopping is killing this game FAST

Here are a couple of ideas how server hopping could be prevented. 1. "No-logout-zones". Meaning, there are certain zones where you simply cannot logout in, and if you do, you get teleported to a random location in a 1km radius. 2. Looted items only safe if you stay on a server for more than 15 minutes. 3. if you switch servers more than 3 times without either staying on one for more than 15 minutes OR having moved at least 1km, you get punished. banned from switching for 2 hours/killed/teleported.... these are just of the top of my head. personally I like number 2 the best. because you can still switch as often as you like until you find a server you want to stay on. or maybe a combination of 1 and 2. I don't like preventing the server switching, because there are a number of legitimate reasons to do so.

Server hopping is killing this game FAST

No, because thats the only way of getting the message to the dev team that this is a big issue. And yes, been testing the alpha, and in those tests I found a big flaw that needs to be addressed. Yes of course the lack of loot respawning is the root of the problem, but even if it does respawn, it wont stop people from logging in and out inside the barracks somewhere on 10 different servers.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

Best dev Team! Now go home and enjoy Christmas!
  5. Who are you, and what have you done to the real Weedz?! IMPOSTOR IMPOSTOR! Changed your mind? ;) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154659-jesus-f-christ-i-cant-take-it-anymore/?p=1550798
  6. The game is definitely worth playing, even at the current stage! Love it so far!
  7. I've found at least 5 different barracks/mil loot spawn locations so far.
  8. well another problem is that the loot doesn't respawn. I have to be honest, I don't run around in three different cities to find a rotten banana. If I see, that all the doors in a town have been opened, all zombies are gone and there is no loot, I switch server.
  9. You're right, DICE didn't do that, but neither did Rocket. He, if I remember correctly, said that he would like to go with the minecraft prize model and increase the prize over the course of the development. He then said that he THINKS it'll start with something in the 10-15$ range... He never promised anything, nor did he say this was going to be the actual prize. And com'on really? They magically got cash for something they didn't do? They made a massive military simulation, which rocket then used to make dayz with. Without Arma there would be no DayZ. And make no mistake there is no other engine out there right now, that could support this kind of scale. Same thing happend with Counterstrike and Half-Life in 2000. Some guys made a mod for Half-Life (Counterstrike) and valve sold millions of copies of Half-Life, and the game lived on for a very long time because of CS. They then even hired the people who made the mod, to make it into a real standalone game. Sound familiar? And btw. Rocket got massive support from BI even during development of the mod. And regarding you knowing so much about the development of a game. You should read up on development cycles and what they mean. Technically this is a pre-alpha, which means, its not feature complete yet.
  10. I feel like loot and zeds often don't respawn. Been on servers where I went through cherno and elektro without seeing a single zombie or loot.
  11. What's wrong with support groups? :DThis forum, as well as reddit and the steam community page are full of whining, and this thread is intended to show these people that their whining is kinda absurd because everything they're whining about was known beforehand.
  12. You can probably guess what's next right? 10.000 sold copies of arma 2,basis? ;) I get what you're saying. Yes they made money through arma 2 sales because of dayz. But that's basically capitalism 101. If you want to complain, complain about dice taking 15$ for 4(?) maps, they recycled from bf3. That I call a ripoff, not paying for an alpha like dayz
  13. True, but I can't think of a single one with this kind of massive scale. To actually do basic math, you'd need some actual numbers, which I don't believe have been published publicly. 5000 Players left... basis? 50-100 million dollars of revenue? Again, basis?
  14. After his I HAVE TO believe you're trolling... You can't really be serious. WAKE UP! THE SA IS NOT BUILD UPON THE MOD!
  15. Yes it is indeed ;) glad I avoided that train wreck of a game :D
  16. Very good analogy! Was trying to come up with something similar, but I'm too tired :D
  17. You are exactly one of those people who should read my post and actually try to understand it.... ITS BAD FUCKING BUSINESS (PRACTICE) TO RECYCLE A GAME EVERY YEAR AND SELLING IT FOR 60$ WHEN ITS STILL FULL OF BUGS. (From a business point of view, it's genius of course). They didn't sell you an alpha. They sold you a game, just like in crowd funding, with the big difference that you can already play it while development of that game is still under way. And it was a major step forward, you just can't see it yet.
  18. And you should take the time to read more than the first sentence ;)
  19. That maybe so, but I just had to get it of my chest. I was grinding my teeth all day. And I feel better now :D
  20. HOW DARE THEY TAKE MONEY FOR AN ALPHER!?!! Ok kids, listen up, cause I'm about to drop some knowledge on your whiny asses. As of this writing, there are three common ways of how to fund and develop a game. There are studios and publishers that have a 100.000.000$ to make a game. They make the same game over and over again, slap some shiny new glare effect on their graphics engine, and then sell it to you for 60$. And you love them for it. You love them so much, that you buy that same game every year and are even happier when they recycle some old maps from the last game into a new 15$ DLC. They have a certain budget calculated by some finance exec who knows nothing about making games. And once the expenses reache a certain point, they push the game out, because the investors want to see some profit. They don't care if the game's not ready, all they care about is m o n e y. So the game gets a "gold status" label slapped onto it and of it goes into the hands of your mommy and daddy who buy it for you. The problem is, the game isn't really ready. But no worries, there will be a "day one patch" ready by the time you have it under your Christmas tree. The other Problem is, that patch isn't going to even come close to fixing all the bugs that rushed out version of a game has... So it takes weeks, sometimes even months, to fix all those bugs you have in that so called "final" game, your mommy and daddy bought for you. But the real problem is, they didn't tell you this when you wrote that game on your wishlist. They said, the game is ready and it's the best thing you ever played. And you believed them. This is how it works/worked in 90% of the time in the last 10 years or so. But for a couple of years now, there's been another option called crowd funding. Which kinda works like this. You have some cash laying around, either your own, or from somebody who won't miss it that much, and you have a really great idea. The problem is, the money you have wont be enough to complete the development of your game. So you start developing something with the cash that you have and then you show it to the public and say "Hey so listen, I have this great idea, here you can see some concept drawings and maybe an early screenshot of what the game MIGHT look like someday. Why don't you donate some money, I promise I'll only use it to make my idea into a really great game, that you will love more than anything else, and once its finished you'll get to play it"Problem is, until you can actually see or even play the game yourself, it's going to take months or more likely years. So you have to cough up that cash in good faith and hope for the best. And besides the obvious possibility that the game never comes out, or it might totally suck, there is also a very big chance, that all those bugs a 100.000.000$ game has when it comes out, the crowd funded one will have as well. And now, the third option, now read carefully, cause this is the important part. The third option kinda starts of the same way crowd funding does. Maybe you have a little bit more money, but you also have a great idea. You start to develop that idea into a somewhat playable version of a game. But you want your fans to be able to play the game now, and give feedback to the actual game, not just some idea of a game. So what you do is, you get an alpha build of your game ready, and you sell it as an early access alpha. Which means, there is going to be a shitload, and I mean a GIANT shitload of bugs, but your honest and tell your fans this, and explain what will work and what won't and how you want them to be an active part of your development. For the player, the big advantage of this third option is, you can actually see some real footage of the game. You can watch stream and videos of other people playing the game, and then can make a decision if you want to buy the alpha or if you'd rather wait a while until everything is more stable and polished. So now you tell me, which way you prefer? BUT THE MOD WAS/IS MORE STABLE THAN THE STANDALONE!!!! Saying something like that only proves one thing. Your inability to understand even the simplest terms regarding game development. Which raised the question, why you bought the alpha in the first place?! They rewrote half the engine, they made it into a real server/client architecture. They redid the whole inventory, they implemented an object based crafting system. Yes the mod (and all of its versions, epoch, origins, etc...) had some of this as well, but they achieved this through scripting. The problem with scripting was that anybody could inject a script into the server, making cheating/hacking a as easy as stealing ice cream from a 3 year old.And on top of all the things that they already implemented, because of this giant engine rewrite, it's going to be much easier to implement stuff like player created construction (houses or bases), new and better zombies etc etc. BUT BUT BUT BUT... No buts! This past year Rocket has made it very clear, probably clearer than any other development studio before, what is going on with the game, at which state it is, and what you can expect if you buy the early access alpha. You either didn't listen, didn't care OR didn't understand. None of which is his, or BI's fault.
  21. AND right there, you have proven that you have no idea what this game is... mod =! SA... meaning, they don't have anything to do with each other (to put it simply)
  22. phoboss

Cheaters and script kiddies already aboard...

Let's not go there! Fact is, injecting code atm is absolutly possible, but then again, VAC isn't running so far. We'll see where it goes.
  23. You'll learn to navigate without a map after a while. I could pretty much find my way to cherno from anywhere on the map during my active DayZ Mod days. This spawning with friends is a very important feature imho. It killed a couple of sessions with friends because we spent hours trying to find each other...
  24. phoboss

    Going full "Daryl"

really hoping for a quiver in SA!
  25. I don't get whats so impressive about 164 days... I have a char with 220+ days, AS50, M4SD, M9SD Coyote pack, NVG and rangefinder... Stopped playing on public about 3 months ago...
