I would love to see a bow and arrow in this game
Jonah_Hobbes replied to stealth_katsu's topic in General Discussion
Cheers for the link. You are right with a homemade bow or even a long bow it would be hard to hit a person/zombie. What about arrows and fletching? Even making bow strings by hand is an art form in itself. Still I can't wait to see them in the game. -

thoughts on bows. Hitting anything man-shaped even with a fully functional compound or recurve would take some practice. Homemade would be quite tough. Also with a homemade bow I think you would struggle to get the poundage to down a person. In RL at my archery club we only have around 30 members and with the clubs stock bows I reckon we've probably got around 120 bows between us. With the other couple of clubs thats around 400 bows for a population of 500000. Fairly scarce. You also need to put together a bow, string it and look after it. I'm wondering what other archers' think of bows in the game? -
Is this how it is for new players? Or is it just me?

Spartan's guide is very good. Also you got to be ultra quick when checking the map, and If you have to go for a pee or grab a drink, but don't want to log out then make sure you are away from houses and roads when you leave the room. -
The reduction of loot in militarised zones
Jonah_Hobbes replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
@e47 "4 hours still too common?" It depends on where we are at with the outbreak. If I landed on the beach of my home town with no idea where I was I'd start looting the shops then head to the 2-3 farms visible from the road of which at least one if not all would have rifles or shotguns. That would take an hour. I'd then head to the nearest city, 2 hours walking and loot the police station, if I accidently went the back way I'd encounter another 3-4 farms. If 3/4 of the population became infected then you are going to have people who were ovrcome before they could reach their weapons. Unlike KOS current DayZ I think fellow survivors would initally be pretty happy to see another non-zombie face. So you might encounter armed survivors. I think the KOS mentality would only later kick in when people realize there is going to be no rescue, resources are scarcier and basically people can now make their own laws. Currently I think the start of the outbreak has been over for a couple of weeks - hence some fruit still being edible. I think most of the population has been killed off - Therefore logically I think you could find a gun within 4 hours. Remember in DayZ you can run across the entire country in an hour or so. -

Huzzahh, Zombies walk through doors now
Jonah_Hobbes replied to F1ackM0nk3y's topic in General Discussion
OK so zombies can't go up stairs? I was at the NEAF, jail block near the tower and opened the door to the top floor room and found 2 inside, the chicks in the pink skirts. I thought someone had lured them, so it was just bugged was it? -
I'm with you I've not been killed by KOS for ages, but you can't ignore the comfort of having a gun. I've pretty much explored the entire map now, did the Alter and the little ruins west of them and I tend to go ages without seeing others. I've been sniping at the NEAF mostly but my Mosin got rolled back so I'll be looking to do something else.

Yeah as long as loot stays within the realms of realism but without making the game boring. As Chernasus is mainly rural I would expect to see more fire wood axes than beanies or motorcycle helmets in sheds. I'd also expect scopes for the Mosin to be found outside of bases as well. I think they'd still be a fair amount of ammo lying around and weapons on the bases or at least one of them where the personal were overrun before they could gather equipment and flee. Because life is so cheap at the moment and not all of the expected features are operating people will server hop - done it myself. Yeah hopping is annoying but I totally understand why people do it. At least you have a half chance against KOS if you are armed.

Any chance of changing this? My toon sounds less like he's in pain and more like he's watching Youp*rn in his bedroom when everyone else has gone to bed. "Ahhhh!" "jeeeez!!" "Fuu***'d"

Logged into a Nightserver a few weeks ago at an Airfield only me and one other on the server. Open the door of the last building, (creepy as I got no lighting), when inside on comes a light, I jump 10 feet out of my chair and we commence a firefight. He wins and killed me. No he was not a hacker just a dude who was in the same place as me and a better shot.

I had this today and it picked my wife's name, which freaked me out until I realised we shared a female character back in the days of the mod.

Character rolled back several days
Jonah_Hobbes replied to Hutch (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That was a sweet scope with the Mosin - but I back with my M4 no biggy. -
I'm not, I posted on the other thread that I didn't think this was going to be a permanent feature. Just the hard core lot going on that it's not realistic to have 24hr day servers. My point is it's not realistic to wander around at night in Chernarus. Some of the narrow-minded HC crew get on my t*ts. I wonder if we introduced real time sleep would HC crew back that? You know having to watch their sleeping toons for 8 hours? Just so it's realistic. Some folk need to realize that this is not RL it's a computer game which is there to provide escapism and fun. Make it realistic but not to the point where it impacts on the fun. I think the Devs well know this, better than a lot of posters on here.
-
But it isn't realistic. Even if you're Chuck Norris you'd stay indoors at night. So basically as a new spawn I've got to find a house and lie down during the night. When daylight arrives I'd be out looting and exploring, I'm also fairly sure I won't have a full time day job after the zombie apocalypse, which most people who play the game have. See the problem? It's always going to be night for a lot of people who play the game if the servers are set to real world time. I'm ok with having some night play but I don't want to spend my entire life gaming time there it's just not realistic.
-
I'm sure this is not a permanent feature. Realistically it makes no sense. If you are surviving in a zombie apocalypse then when darkness falls you would hold up in and secure a building. Even with night vision you'd still not be venturing out to often.
