NEAF Sniping Spots and View Distance with Optics/Binos
LigerNoir posted a topic in General Discussion
Background start: I picked up the game again after a few months to see whats up. I headed to the NEAF in hopes of decent loot. Only to find zilch in the new building and hanger, but as I start looking at the first APC (and find some decent things that people may wish to trade for) I come under rifle fire from long range. Other than knowing this guy is a noob in both skill and tactics (can't hit me and begins the engagement while I was behind a few cm of steel). Realizing I couldn't pinpoint the direction of fire, so I serpentined my ass across the airstrip to safety. In my attempts to find him, I went to the mountain west of the AF in hopes of finding this dude. I like to not engage people with hostility, but saving my own skin would be nice. Background over. What are the preferred sniping spots in the NEAF? I know of the west mountain and how has good line of sight. I know this guy was in the North/East of the AF and elevated. Any tips for future pre-loot runs would be great. Also, does anyone know how far a player is able to see using the Binoculars? Also, can you spot someone over a 1.5 km away? Thanks -
NEAF Sniping Spots and View Distance with Optics/Binos

Thanks, Guess it means I'll have to move in order to engage in the future. -
IRL, no. One of the coolest and nicest person I know is a Brazilian Citizen and he's more American then most. In video games, yes. Its not the fact that a person is from a specific country, however I have played way too many games that became ruined because of players from Brazil. It's a huge lag issue in many older games I use to playand ruined said matches/games. As for day z, would I shoot a person for saying they are Brazilian? No. However, every person I play this game with will as they have a much deeper hatred for the Brazilian gamer for the same reasons I noted.

AMMO should be Rare like in Resident Evil 1

Or you can play more of the Alpha like me and lose all your loot after server hoping too much. I learned my lesson... -
I think finding small fishing boats would be a cool idea. I actually did not think about it until you made this thread :) If the boats are small enough to not create a base at sea then I say have at it. I would think that maintaining the boat would be a royal PITA, but all the power to ya.

I'm w/ y'all here on the civilian aspect of both weapons and optics. As for High Power Optics only used by bandits for PvP, I disagree. I run a 91/30 with a Long Range Scope and use it to scout ahead for my squad and also use it as over-watch. That's the best use for the 91/30 so far; a recon weapon.

I'd rather not read through pages of back and fourth, so I'll just state my opinion for what it is worth. Combat Timer: Once you fire your weapon or player comes under fire (if programmable), there is at least a minute timer that prevents you from logging out. Respawn Timer: After death/unconsciousness, you are forced to stay in the server for 10/15 minutes before respawning. This would allow the other people to take your gear w/o your body disappearing. If the game is exited by means of ctrl+alt+del or alt+f4 than a penalty of some sort (don't have a good idea for this) is needed to try to prevent this. --------------------- STORY TIME: I just had a guy combat log on me. I was at Northern Airfield, spotted a guy in the tower looking towards the forest, where I was. Prior to that I was on the left side near the industrial area of the complex and heard two separate M4s. I had a strong assumption that if I saw a guy in the tower, he was hostile. I had a clear shot on him, he could not see me. I shot and he either died and logged, or just logged. I wasn't going for his gear, but I would have liked a confirmation of my kill to know if I was safe or not.

Been discuses before, please use the search function on a topic that is highly likely to have others with your view point. Merry Christmas.

My in-game mic seems to not work when talking to my friends on a 3rd party server. But, their mics work in-game and on the 3rd party server. Any idea why this is?

Bump, still have problems.

Where is there a mute function?

Abundance of weapons versus abundance of ammunition
LigerNoir replied to AlexLM's topic in General Discussion
I did that for awhile and it became more trouble then worth. I would constantally lose gear and ammo between server hoping. I gave up and learned it wan't worth it. I finally convinced myself that it's cheating too. -
Suggestion: Craftable booby traps and impovised suppressors
LigerNoir replied to gloriousgonzo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think a jerryrigged suppressor is an AWESOME idea. -
Anybody getting much action? If so, where?
LigerNoir replied to OfficerFriendly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Only time I have seen more than lone players is at the Giant Spire (Green Mtn?). Me and a friend held up a guy and let him go. He attracted a lot of company and I got blasted in the head with an M4 after killing one of his friends (who just axed some dude in the head). They then waited 30 minutes to kill my friend and acted like total jerks over the in-game chat... -
I was trying the same thing with both the PU scope and Hunting Scope and noticed the same thing. I assumed there would be wind and bullet drop but could not hit my target. I am guessing that the Z was around 500 meters away with the PU scope (firing prone level to my target) and maybe 350 with the hunter at 50m+ elevated position and kept trying to compensate but I also missed (I fired like 20 rounds at this Z too). My conclusion on the Mosin is that it's just not accurate (like real life). It's not a precision rifle and was never designed to be a precision rifle.

I am attempting to report a bug, but have a problem.

I'm trying to report a bug, but I keep getting an issue with game issue. I get this message: Invalid value for field "Game Version". What should I put there? I've Tried DayZ, DayZ Standalone, and Alpha; among others. -

TYVM, bug reported. -
If me and my friends want to laugh at each others expense, then y'all in-game don't need to hear that.

I think the masks should just be more difficult to find. Do that and all's well.

DayZ takes place in a post-soviet state. AKMs and the like make a lot of sense. If ArmA2 story has anything to do with the mod, then M4/M16s also make sense. I think it would be cool to see a lot of civilian firearms. I agree with the not having .50s.

Crashing likely won't be your fault and shouldn't be punished because of a possible game or hardware hick-up. ALT-F4 should force you to the same "are you sure you want to quit" type of leaving and, imo, a 10 second wait period.

I like what is being done with the Mosin. Just adding a PU scope, although a low power, gets the job done at good ranges.

More stuff to loot is always a good thing.

I too am a noob and never played the Mod. I have six hours played and I am enjoying myself with the SA.

Howdy y’all. I’m LigerNoir and I’m a DayZ noob. I’ve been lurking at the game here and there since the release of the original mod. When the Alpha released, I thought I would give it a chance. I’m just going to give my opinions of the alpha release from the pov of a new player. I’m going to be doing this in a timeline of my two lives and things I noticed through my play playing. EDIT: If this is in the wrong section, please move it to the correct one, thank you mods. WARNING: IT’S LENGHTY! Being a FPS gamer for years It didn’t take me long to figure out the ArmA2 system (never played, but it did feel a lot like America’s Army 2). I was extremely clueless w/ the lack of HUD, but I liked that feature. I didn’t do any research into the mod before starting, so I had no idea what I was doing. When I reached my first town, I found a bunch of canned goods and that’s just about it. I found it very difficult finding a backpack and weapon. It took me over an hour to find this gear. When I finally found a weapon, it came at the cost of a zombie finding me. I would eventually bleed out from the zombie (didn’t figure out I could use rags to bandage up till later). Going back to the zombie, I noticed that it would run through fences and clip through the floor of the map. Other zombies I would see before dying would do that often. Oh the problems of an Alpha tester XD . I spawned again and this time I decided to rush inland after finding a few things in a gas station. Seems that’s the best thing that can be done. I found a dead player and, more importantly, an M4 with some ammo! It seems that I stumbled on what must have been a military zone with a clinic and school. Found some more stuff and left. I later came across a rubber banding player crying for help. I attempted to help him, but the Alpha took him. I noticed a lot of clipping with movement. Was this a problem in ArmA2? I got around a lot of that by going into 3rd person, but sometimes 1st person suits the situation better. Hope it gets fixed later on. Moving on, I stumbled across a nice military checkpoint leading into a good sized town. I found some nice goodies and lots of Ammo. I attempted to cheat the game by loading into new servers and looting the same area. I learned NOT to do that. I lost over 300 rounds of 5.56 and 10 Magazines. Very frustrating, but part of that was me trying to cheat, so I only blame myself. I found a person looting a nearby building and he just started shooting. Sadly for him I had a vest on and he did not. I was unable to loot him because his body disappeared. Zombies would also just disappear after I killed them. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I was shot and the screen went blurry. Loss of blood, understandable. What was annoying is that I loaded the game up a few hours later and the blur was gone. I loaded the game up a few minutes ago and the blur was back. I take notice to conditions of food and water as to not eat/drink contaminated things. I was wondering why the blur is back. The rest of this post will be observations and opinions. Another problem I have is traveling at Night. ITS TOO DARK! In a land without electricity, you would think that the night sky and moon would light up the world better. I also found the headlight (torch) very annoying. It didn’t angle itself with your crosshairs so I would be doing all this awkward head movements to figure out where I was going. I noticed a lack of zombies, which I LOVE. Being new and figuring everything out through trial and error with a low zombie count is great. I also love the 1 shot headshot kill and a quick burst will also kill zombies quick. Shoot and scoot! I found A LOT of M4s and FN45s. I didn’t find another weapons and have yet to find 45 Mags. Sucks for me. Lastly, before closing, I wish I could restart without getting killed/killing myself. I have too much pride to let the game kill me, so a restart function in the menus would be nice. After playing roughly 6 hours, I’m very impressed with the Alpha. I only wish I could play with others and my friends are skeptical about playing an Alpha (can’t blame them). I can’t wait to see more of the game as it comes along and I hope to help the Developers in their progression. Happy hunting fellow survivors.
