What song best represent ts DayZ's intended atmosphere?
eleventhavenue replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
No songs but those of the birds, the wind, and the rustling of the trees... -
A Cool Story of Heroism (Ep. 1)
eleventhavenue replied to GenocidalGeneral's topic in General Discussion
This is an example of the kind of emergent gameplay that this game needs to help promote with its mechanics. Also: A good deed and a good read! -
Is there an ETA on ambient sounds ?
eleventhavenue replied to TheLast-StaR's topic in General Discussion
I certainly hope they (the sound designers) will refrain from adding ´´creepy´´sounds to add to the ´´survival horror´´ (such a specific phrase and yet it seems to fit everything) aspect of the game. For me, an important aspect of the Chernarus feel (and I think the visual designers consider this a lot when making Chernarus+) is nature's reclamation of society. Nature goes on like ordinary, after all, it's not like the plague is some kind of environmental catastrophe. For sound, I would like: - Birds fitting for the environment: Birds for coniferous forests (like woodpeckers? I'm not sure what local wildlife is in a southwestern Russia analogue), birds for broadleaf forests, and disoriented doves living in the city ruins. - Buildings should make sounds. Old wooden buildings creaking, bricks tumbling down the wrecked international hotel, wind turbulence around large buildings, and rain smattering on windows. - Thick forests makes rain feel and sound differently. -
DayZ: Why Complexity Is A Good Thing
eleventhavenue replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
So many games today follow the Gameplay > Realism formula. I want DayZ to follow the Realism = Gameplay formula instead. And I think, from the popularity of the mod, that this is more attractive to potential customers than what most people think. And now, with competitors, there are DayZ alternatives that are better funded and with more manpower. DayZ needs to be different. I think it has been made pretty clear that the competitors are going for a ´´accesible´´ game style, so let DayZ go the other way! -
Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]
eleventhavenue replied to ianaconda's topic in Suggestions
The only thing I have against rail vehicles would be that probably would take a lot of time to get working. Now helicopters on the other hand... I had many great experiences related to helicopters in the mod, but I think they always felt like one of those features that just were there because Arma 2 had it. When I and my comrades became ´´experienced´´ the mod started revolving more and more around helicopters and high-grade stuff, and less about surviving in the harsh world. I think the devs should step away from this kind of development, and instead focus on the thgs that fit DayZ, not Arma 2. Like hunting. We haven't even got hunting yet. -
So, US troops from 10 years ago perfectly cleaned up any trace of their presence, up to the point of not only perfectly cleaning their old FOB site, but even building up a perfectly identical copy of the bombed out house in Olsha. And then, they randomly drove around in the country and dropped their automatic carbines in the Shower rooms of CDF barracks? Or will we go with the ´´gun dealer´´ theory, and say that gun dealers from some other part of Chernarus where there are gun stores, randomly decided to take all their western equipment and dipose of it in the CDF barracks for no apparent reason? I guess the reason that makes the most sense would be to say that the CDF started using American weapons as part of their equipment... uh, for some reason. The CDF never really act very friendly towards the US forces. The way i interpreted it in the campaign was that many of the CDF soldiers really felt more aligned towards Russia than the US (if you consider it, the whole storyline has an almost creepy semblance to what happens in Ukraine right now). While only they have a small volunteer militia as their only real defence force, it still seemed like a functional military force to me. I don't get why they suddenly would want to switch to American equipment, when they have perfectly fine eastern equipment already. Where is the money going to come from, anyways? --- Now, I'm not a gun dealing expert, but according to what I've heard from most people, western guns are pretty abundant in the eastern countries, and certainly possible to buy, both legally and illegally. I do, however, believe that it would make more sense if the CDF would operate only with eastern imported weapons, at the very least when it comes to things like pistols and service rifles.

Discussion on the "Hide body" option
eleventhavenue replied to LortFengerN's topic in General Discussion
As for the server thing... this may or may not help, but I recall what the RTS Achtung Panzer did with corpses. If you haven't played that game, it works as a Turn-Based/RTS hybrid with turns being a few hours each and then combat happening in real time during the time that the turn elapses. The fights are around battalion-level in size so they can get pretty massive, and you can get quite a lot of corpses (especially when the AI gets caught off guard during a night advance by my Artillery Flares), and everything, corpses, wrecks and craters, ar enot only saved during the entire campaign, they also physically affect the world (wrecks and craters are cover, for example), but all the Infantry corpses would be replaced with generic ones between turns. Can we not have something similar? After a while (say, one hour, maybe? or maybe coupled to in-game time?) the body gets replaced with something generic, fly buzzing starts playing, all clothes get unlootable (the generic model has generic clothes, but it's all rotten and maggoty so you wouldn't want to take their clothes anyways) and the things that wouldn't get destroyed by its owner being a pile of rotten meat gets dropped beside the corpse. -
Yet another soul lost, for he carried pants in Elektro. Seriously, just stay out of Elektrozavodsk. Especially if you're not good at spotting snipers.

Third person exploits reached a new low today
eleventhavenue replied to liquidsnake's topic in General Discussion
The regular servers clogged up my server browser, but then I realized that I can filter them away. I think that is the worst experience I've ever had with regular mode. Really, if you have problems with periscope snipers and corner peekers, there is one really simple solution. -
This is truly unbelievable. I don't get how these people can find ANY enjoyment out of DayZ. Their time must be full of dying and running back so that their buddies can dupe new stuff for them. What's the point? Why even play the game? There are many better games for this. I can understand the Bandit and even the pure (but non-exploity) KoS play style, but this... I will never know how this, in any way can be enjoyable or even fun. Bahg, duping sucks... Remember, comrades, that neo-Jesus came to give us salvation, but alas, he was murdered by duping KOS'ers in Vybor. Now mankind is forever doomed. Our only way out is to go to Green Mountain and confess our sins to the father above... (you know the guy with the weather report in Green Mountain, he is really nice)

[Recipe] Steamed Stuffed Peppers
eleventhavenue replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I know right! These damn casuals... cooking? When I was 11 and in the boy scouts, we learned to light fires with our eyes that was HARDCORE This is the apokolyps so I think we all should start eating each other right now and besides it's totally not like making hot food in any way is important for survival. It's just fanboys from the Sims ya know... DayZ is a first person shooter not a third person shooter like that stupid game you can't compare them Anyone with a counter-argument to this is a hypocritical bigot! --- (And now we go on-topic) I would really like warm drinks, like coffee, tea, and maybe some kind of berry soup? Would be possible to find either in powder form or by making it yourself with berries. -
Isn't eyes adjusting to light levels already implemented? It was in arma 2, atleast.
-
Comrade We have watched your every move, and we have realised that you are worthy. You will soon be contacted, and you must then move to Green Mountain. Welcome to the order.

Folly! One does not oppose the beans!

NO It is not fine For reasons described in this thread. It is not ´´just fine´´. No.

Bandages in this game does not insta-heal... And I don't get what the problem is with zombies. There is nothing unrealistic with people trying to kill you... I don't see him whining about anything. I see him coming with constructive input which I hope will lead to future improvements in this area. Maybe he bothers playing the game because he thinks it is a good game, and maybe he bothers with posting here on the forums because he think he has ideas which will improve the game. And I support these ideas.

What is Your Most Interesting Experience in DayZ
eleventhavenue replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Me and a few friends went to Chernogorsk. We were going to open a book store. 20 minutes later, I find myself in the church reading from the holy bible while my friends ritually murder a newspawn. Then we all died and I killed a random guy with a Mosin. -
I don't know, the DayZ mod was a pretty working zombie game on the arma engine, so I doubt it's impossible...

With this statement I assume you agree to my belief that the cause of these problems is not no Alpha? Because really no, not no Alpha. Alpha.

(All other Console discussion)DayZ Standalone Might See an Xbox One Version in Future
eleventhavenue replied to Plimax (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If h1z1 is coming to the consoles, then I see very little possibility for DayZ to get much sales in a console version. Really, I don't think trying to port DayZ would even nearly be worth all the work involved. If DayZ is going to get competition from h1z1 then that will just become even more true. -
I will not just resort to saying that this is an Alpha I mean being an Alpha is not an excuse for these problems I am sure most of this will be solved but that doesn't mean I should just yell Alpha everywhere No, Indeed no, being Alpha is not the cause of these problems at all. I will not yell Alpha. Alpha

The experimental currently has ironsight zoom, like the old Arma 2 (which is really nice), and I am sure that it is coming to stable with the next update. As it is now, on stable, weapons just have a fixed zoom when aiming down sights.

I get lost so easily on this game - Need navigation tips
eleventhavenue replied to TommyP88's topic in New Player Discussion
If you truly have no idea of where you are, you can always try to follow power lines or asphalted roads. That should take you somewhere. The far north is a unfinished wasteland with grey spots where buildings should be and almost no loot, so watch out for that. (Altough many of those places are now actual villages with stuff in, so that's nice) -
Survival should be hard. No matter how many cans of tuna you have, how many rounds of ammunition, how good or bad you are at the game, no matter how many zeds there are or how many other players there are, always. You should constantly, constantly, live in the fear of dying. To other players, yes, but also to a thousand other things. That is endgame for me.

Some times, the ship wakes again and remember its crew. Survivor, you do not want to be near it when it happens...
