Does anyone play with shadows off to see people better?
subliminal_city replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
No shadows for me, unless I know I'm just going to trek through woods. Shadows in cities and the like are a no go for me, unfortunately. Then again, I need to upgrade my CPU and GPU I guess... but I will wait with that until the game hits beta I think, whenever that is. This is the only game I play that is heavy on the CPU so I don't feel the need to do so in the current state of the game. -
Admin privileges and server time rant
subliminal_city replied to Petrollium's topic in General Discussion
Night time as it is, is completely useless due to gamma settings. Why would I play on a server where I will either have to turn the gamma settings up and get a butt ugly looking game (and at the same time by pass the actual night) or wander around in the dark with a light source and the majority of the people (doesn't even matter if it is the majority or the minority of the people in this case) are just using the gamma settings to see 'perfectly' in the night. Until there's a good solution for it, which I honestly don't think there will be, I certainly won't be playing during night time. Sadly, cause I like the setting, I just don't want to killed by someone who by-passes the whole idea of night time. -
So is this game just about Griefing?
subliminal_city replied to madhojo's topic in New Player Discussion
I wouldn't say that it is a grief fest actually, will you die? Most certainly, everyone does and will at one time or another. You can meet up with friendly people, personally I haven't encountered that many KoS people. One person asked me nicely for food, which I gave him - before he tried to kill me. I ended up getting my food back and some more gear. But one way or another you will lose your gear... be it from a bullet to the head, or a hail of bullets sprayed by some noob or be it from character wipes and resets. If you're going to play with friends, you'll probably enjoy it more than you would if you'd play it solo. Personally I've just been exploring and have had a pretty nice time, although I am getting to the point where I wish that there was more things to do in the game, even though I haven't been everywhere yet or seen every town and building out there - there is little to do in the game right now, other than exploring and PvPing or banditing. Some do it with finesse and some people are just crude. The fact though that there's players making up medical teams to help out other people shows how polarized the game is or rather the playerbase. -
Firefighter's axe in a backpack, but not an M4?
subliminal_city replied to subliminal_city's topic in General Discussion
Oh, so there's not really any logical explanation for it other than balancing? Is it just that other people should know that you're armed? Well, I would have to agree, either have the option to fit both or neither. -
Could be that they're having desync issues or something and there for decide to change servers? I had massive issues with desync before, making me jump from server to server to server to server to... (well you get the picture) in order to find one that I could actually do something on, considering it doesn't make sense to join an already full server for loot I figure that they're not server hopping for loot at least.

Hardcore hive... a solution to the division?
subliminal_city replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well that's great, but what is "etc" in this context? That's pretty vague cause it could mean anything. Personally I feel that it probably won't affect the community that much if there's two different hives, one in which you can only run around in 1PP and one where you can use both. There are already populated 1PP servers and populated mixed servers so. If they're talking about a change in mechanics such as food, drink, healing and such - that would be a bad thing cause that should be equal on all hives in my opinion or just working on mechanics for hardcore only I think it is probably a waste of resources (wouldn't make any sense to spend months to work on a feature to only include it in a portion of the game). -
Why should they close down a server unless there is actually any evidence of someone being kicked and banned for PvP? Just because it says "PvE only or GTFO" doesn't mean that they will try to enforce that.
-
Out of curiousity, why shouldn't you keep pre-made splints?

need help, is Day z worth it???
subliminal_city replied to vacanson's topic in New Player Discussion
Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it, if you want to take the word of a slave. -
Wish that there was fog (both thick and thin actually) and snow as well.

Did that really just happen? Am I now a inadvertent super Bandit?
subliminal_city replied to TLaw's topic in New Player Discussion
How did you guys who say tl;dr ever finish school? -
Personally at this point in the development cycle I couldn't care less about server hopping (actually right now I'm against preventing server hopping, because with the desync issues you might have to jump from one server to another) or combat logging. I would rather have features to try out and see that they add combat logging timers and ways to prevent server hopping later on. Server stability and respawning loot with added non-glitching/clipping-zombies, bitte. Some crafting and cooking would be nice to try out. Ladders might also be a good thing to fix.

See every death as a new way to approach the game. Try to go somewhere else for your gear, visit places you haven't been to yet. When I die though, I tend to just stop playing for the day cause if I've spent hours on a character, I don't find it that exciting to start all a-new directly after being killed so I just take a pause for the day and have another go at it the following day. Unless I was killed within the first few hours of the character's life.

possible solution to 3PP imbalance?

In comparison to quite a few others, he/she is far from being obnoxious. -
HARDCORE - 3PP:OFF server/tactics/general
subliminal_city replied to wild_man's topic in General Discussion
Cause you can't turn your head in real life... -
Name tags in form of dog tags or sewn on patches (either with your name or just some symbol) to your clothes, yes definitely. That would be kind of neat. But not something that shows your name (or affiliation) hovering above you. I'm sure that it will be easier to identify your friends by their clothes once there are more clothing in the game. Other than that... try using VOIP, you ought to recognize your friends' voices.

Being killed by server hoppers ruining game
subliminal_city replied to braiboo's topic in General Discussion
Personally I'd see a desync fix first, it's most likely not about how hard it is to fix something but rather the importance of fixing it and honestly, since it is an alpha release, I'm not sure that such things have the highest priorities right now. A 3 minute timer on switching servers right now would be a disaster due to desync... picked the wrong server? Oh tough luck, you can't join another one for 3 minutes... oh hey, guess what... you didn't win the server lottery this time either... should I try a third time or should I just go play something else. Last night I tried 8 different servers and I couldn't do jack shit on either of them, that's almost 30 minutes of relogging time with a 3 minute login timer. With everything you add you have the potential to screw something else up though and the open alpha has been out what, ~one month. I'm sure they're going to add something eventually. -
Rewarding players for actually staying alive and surviving.
subliminal_city replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
Sure, increased accuracy when you're firing a gun and hitting your target. But you'd hardly get better at jogging long distances for sniping someone at 800 m. I think it would add a rather interesting aspect to the game and it is highly realistic that if you maintain something, firearm accuracy or just keeping yourself in shape you're going to be better off at something than someone who doens't do said thing. I would also like to see weight added, making it more difficult to run long distances with a 35 cans of spaghetti in your backpack as opposed to an empty one or one with 35 kiwis. I wouldn't cry if it wasn't implemented though, but it definitely wouldn't hurt if they did enrich the game with a system like this somehow. -
And pretty much everytime you log in.
-
They ought to add poisoning to things such as knives, axes, bayonettes and the like though. Just stab a zombie with your knife a couple of times after it's dead and it's most likely filled with different pathogens or a festering animal corpse. I guess unless there's already an increased infection rate from damaged weapons over pristine ones.

I've only found two in my 60 hours of playing. One in a factory and one in some random house west of Solnichniy.

That sounds awfully perverted... or is that just my imagination? On topic though, I would have kept a journal I believe or written a short story and kept pages of it spread out around. Wonder if anyone would try to actually get all the pieces...
-
Has anyone found or does anyone know if Heart of Darkness is in the game? Felt unnecessary to create a new topic in relation to literature in game so I just hijacked this a little bit. That's a nice find by the way, a little bit jealous now.

Well, why should it be more beneficial to play in a group other than those benefits that other people merit group play (such as more fun, generally people see a group of players as more of a threat and there's safety in that and so on and so forth)? The game doesn't need mechanics to reward group play by having spawn points that are related to where your group members are or having a system which lets you see where your friends are, it sucks just as much for the solo player to die up north as it does for the ones playing in groups. As for fresh spawns, you can just make an agreement to meet in at X and people will run there - that's what I do and it's not really any problem. So personally I feel that the system is fine as it is. No changes needed.

CaseCeption - now whats going on here? o.O
subliminal_city replied to robophant's topic in General Discussion
I was going to do the same thing with a mountain backpack, then the hunters backpack and then the taloon and then a box and in it a rotten kiwi.
