The actual DayZ mod is free but you have to have Arma 2 Combined Operations to play it. The DayZ you bought on steam is the Standalone game, not the mod.

I have windows 8 and I can run Arma 2 and Arma 3. So you should be fine. Depending on you GPU and CPU though.

Well with the guy coming back to life that is a simple glitch that can happen if he combat logs but with your friend being teleported into the middle of the ocean, idk about that.

To lose the zombies try and run through bushes and up hills that will most likely get them off you and I think the detection system for the zombies is bugged. Now to meet up with a friend this could be very difficult if you don't know the map. So you just learn as you play and hope for the best.

Maybe you should of tried giving him water instead of soda, not saying it will work but it is worth a shot.

Right after you kill someone and their body disappears they most likely logged out which if they did it fast enough their body will disappear.

I would be happy with them adding a weapon cleaning kit to prolong the life of your weapon.

Whenever my character moaned I just took some pain killers and he was fine.

But what happens after people get in a group? They will just go around in that group KOSing all of the lone wolf players. I don't think there is anything to stop people from KOSing. But still making characters have different professions is a good idea.
