A dog companions would work only, if the A.I is minimal...to avoid frustration. The dog should stay near it's owner's side all the time. It should sprint, crouch, crawl etc. when the player does it. Maybe the owner could use crosshair to point at target and press "Kill!" -button to send the dog to do dirty work. Imagine scoping from 1km away and order your dog to kill that pesky sniper on the Elektro hospital roof (okay, maybe there should be a distance limit). Horses, on the other hand, should have enough A.I to flee. Shoot near it=flee. Wave hands too much=flee. A clown masked player approaches=flee. See a bear=flee uncontrollably, while the rider prays there won't be any cliffs ahead. The owner walks behind the horse and is close enough=kick the frontal lobe. But seriously, horses would be a great addition to the game. If they were rare enough, people would target the rider, not horse.

I Found A Infinate 60 round M4A1 Hacked Mag, Should I throw it out?
Al Bobo replied to Rhaptic's topic in General Discussion
Use it until you find a new mag. Then throw it away. Problem solved. -
Dallas, did you see stars, when you were doing that military exercise? If you didn't, that means there was clouds blocking the starlight. In that situation it really is really dark. However, starry night is bright enough to walk on the road. Forests are a different story, though. I lived on the countryside and the stars were really amazing to look at. Off topic: have you guys ever thought that many "city children" have never seen stars in their life? Kinda sad, when you think about it...

he's got a good balance, that pooping guy. If I poop in the woods, I go near a tree so that I can keep my balance better. Just in case. You don't want to fall on your ass in the middle of the process. Hey, there could be a balancing mini-game, where you have to control your balance and if you fall on your own shit, you hear a sad trombone -sound. You should also pick large leaves so that you can wipe your butt, or if you don't have any you would just have claw it clean with your hand.

Ok... I thought that this is a joke thread, but apparently it's not. First I was thinking "what's the reason for this shit", but contamination and it used as a weapon (arrow tips, bullets, water sources) is a valid point. You can say that carcasses etc. can be used for that purpose but shit is just one more way to do it...and you carry that stuff with you all the time. Dangerous stuff, too, since human feces contains bacteries that target humans. Also, you are vulnerable, when you are taking a dump. It's hard to move quickly with your pants down (or if you are in a crouching position or whatever way they might implement that pooping animation). Hunters can see how old animal droppings are so players should be able to do that, too. Is that pile of shit still steaming or is it old news? That texture... so he ate combat bacon and some tuna... (ok, that last part went a bit far). Finally, forcefeeding... I'm against all restrictions. If you can do something stupid irl, then you should be able to do it in DayZ. My cousin drank dish washer liquid as a kid and docs had to remove a big part of his esophagus. Drinking that stuff was stupid, yes, but totally possible to do. Removing a...feature just because people might get upset is just pampering the masses. If you get caught by other players, prepare for a shitstorm. Personally, I would just run and get shot before bad things started happening. I voted yes.

I stopped playing after 50 hours. I'll come back when hunting and crossbows are in :)
-
I like the fact that crossbows and bows are coming, but I don't really like the way those zeds drop from a single bodyshot. Headshot kill is ok, bodyshot kill not so much. At least, not instant bodyshot kills. Do zeds bleed? Some people have been saying that crossbows don't bring anything useful to gameplay. I disagree. Crossbow is silent and lethal, IF you can make a sneak attack and stay hidden so that you can reload. However, if there's many targets (or even one) zigzagging towards you, then you're fucked and it's time to draw a pistol and pray. Judging from above videos, it's going to deliver it's damage regardless if the target is wearing a body armor or not. They should make it ignore armor in DayZ, too. Somebody should look around the internet and see if you can find any info if the crossbow bolt can go through a ballistic helmet... :P For silent hunting, the crossbow will be great.

Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
Al Bobo replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
WTH removed force feed disinfectant and alcohol tincture? I haven't done that to anyone and I haven't been force fed even once. I don't like those mechanics. STILL I don't want them to be removed, because it is perfectly possible to force feed toxic stuff to someone in real life. That removal feels like they are listening the forum crybabies and watering down the 'DayZ Experience'. What next? Friendly fire off, if you are in a same team? Hovering direction pointer above your head to show where to go? Anyway, great update. Tactical bacon! Edit: I should have read more before posting... -
I have a suggestive/explict dayz themed experience that I'm dying to share

You, lady, need to buy real handcuffs asap. Then visit a dating site and go meet some complete stranger. Remember to take your handcuffs with you. If your reaction was that strong ingame, imagine what it would be like in real life. -
Mass hysteria is a beautiful thing. To watch from a safe distance.

I like the idea of spying others inside a clan, but it should be done within game's mechanics. At least, I would do it that way so that I could sleep with a clear conscience after digitally murdering people :P I put your TS spying in same box with stream sniping. It's lame. Effective, but lame.

This thread makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :)

Shotgun range? I got sprayed from 300-400 meters?
Al Bobo replied to TheSkempi's topic in General Discussion
Combat log failed. Also, that other guy was possibly cheating. Combat logging is lame as hell. I consider it cheating and that's why I hate it. -
In no way, this story connects to OPs story, but once I put a cockroach in a snus box. 15 minutes later it was dead. ..and they say cockroaches can survive anything! Makes you pretty dizzy, too. Oh, and a few days ago I saw something moving in the distance and hit prone immediately. After further inspection I confirmed that it was a signpost. Everything is scary in DayZ.

Personally, if I spawn at coast and someone comes to give me beans and a water bottle, I say thanks. Makes starting a bit easier especially if the coast is already picked clean. I don't think that the good samaritan guy looks me down or something. He is just doing his stuff and I'm doing mine. ....and about that big fonted message above... If a stranger stops me while I'm walking down the street and gives me 100e, I take it and say thanks. That guy feels good about himself and I'm 100e richer. I would be a fool not to take that 100e!

Best feeling is to survive against all odds, when you think you are about to die at any moment, but with skill or luck you live to see another day.

Cannot Use An Item (E.g. Drink/eat) If It Is "ruined"
Al Bobo replied to KC_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Some items should be ruined and some items should keep their condition level. After all, a rifle bullet is not size of a cannonball. It shouldn't obliterate everything a guy is carrying. -
"Ffffuck."

I think every bad action except hacking is justified in this game
Al Bobo replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
KoS once. Server hopped once. I used firestation ladder glitch once to get from inside the tower to outside, when I wasn't sure if there was someone downstairs. I won't miss exploits, when devs figure out the way to prevent those. Oh, I almost forgot! I used 3rd person view once. Zing! (burn, fire, burn) -
That second film brought animal documentries into my mind immediately. "This video starts roughly at the point when I realise something very interesting is likely about to happen. I have stalked a group of four coastal bandits for about forty minutes at this point and this is me having moved just within meters from their position. It's bandit mating season and everyone is packing heat."

I demand mushrooms! Psychedelic ones, too. And a shroom -book so you know what to pick up.

DayZ night is surreal. It's summer time, but nights are pitch black. Here in Finland we have as dark nights only at winter, when there's no moon or stars giving light. Maybe Chernarus is actually near equator? I have understood that nights there are about as dark as in this game. Some future patch will give us lions and elephants to make it more authentic...

I was in military base on the second floor, when I heard some noise from outside. I positioned myself near stairs so that his back would be turned on me when he comes up. I heard him walking around downstairs and I though that, if he's got a gun, I will take him down because I wasn't in the best shape then. Well, he had a gun so I shot him in the back. Not my proudest moment, but I lived maybe a week more until I was shot a few hours ago...in the back. :I

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Al Bobo replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
I want to keep guessing, if the guy I meet is going to shoot me or not. If the bullets start to fly, you know what's what. Any kind of info that you can't get by talking or looking other's behavior dilutes the experience. I regard everyone I meet as a possible KoS guy and I'm friendly only when they have their gun pointing on the ground while I have my gun pointed at them... -
Sure, but I think that devs vision for DayZ isn't mass pvp at Balota. They want people to actually try to survive and they will implement mechanics that promote that. Timer would be easy to do and probably very effective for creating sense of dread and something akin will to live. Or perhaps common sense, like "don't attack a guy with a gun, if you are unarmed".
