Kill on sight... my group is doing it now
Al Bobo replied to Nariquo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Make it so that when player wants to log off, he needs to wait 20 seconds while standing still. If a gun has been fired, a player must wait 2 minutes before he can log out. Those two things prevent logging while chased and logging while fighting. At least mostly. There really should be a timer when logging off near people, too, so that if you are in a house and hear some1 entering downstairs, you can't just log off. Combat logging is unintented game mechanic and WILL be removed. It doesn't fit into DayZ gameplay. Alpha... -
Is there some way to spawn at a same place with friend?
Al Bobo replied to zverochert's topic in New Player Discussion
No. That kind of mechanic doesn't belong in DayZ. It's better that you spent that 20 minutes running to your friend and then make sure that you stay alive. Gives some extra incentive to keep alert :P -
So as the title says, how can you use rope? I imagine that you could make a makeshift backpack, but is there other ways to use it? Can you tie a person with it, shoot in the air and watch zombies eat him alive?

Rocket, heal our osteoporosis too while you're at it. Right now we have the stamina of a world class runner and the bones of 90 -years old granny. I dropped from the top of first stairs in a barn and broke my legs. Then I crawled up again and dropped second time so that I could respawn.

The longer I survive, the more paranoid I get. Once I found a can opener, an empty pistol and a map while I was quite freshly spawn. I met some guy in an office building. We both stared each other with axes raised and he asked "Friendly?" and I "Yeah". He still wasn't sure so I holstered my axe and we passed by with no blood spilled. If we traded blows I might have lost my precious can opener.

If you catch a disease that you can't cure fast or are injured, it's easy to kill yourself in some hidden place and then run back to your corpse to get all gear. One way to discourage this could be if your corpse would turn into a zombie and wander away with all your gear. Perhaps it could break and drop off things along the way, too. Personally, I would love to see a fully stacked corpse lumbering on my way :) Or maybe your dead body has a chance to contaminate the stuff you had? If you died because of some illness that can transfer between people, it would be likely to linger on clothes and items. Or maybe the smell of a corpse could attract animals or zombies that would eat and move your body elsewhere and destroy items? Other ideas are welcome, too. Anything to stop corpse runs...

I'm concerned about looting your own corpse, because that way you can ignore many survival aspects of DayZ since every time you spawn you get rid of ill effects and you get your loot back, if you hid your body well enough.

Bible - Spread the word, heed our Lord -What?
Al Bobo replied to h3retic's topic in General Discussion
We need priest suits, ASAP! Would you shoot a priest to get his sacred wine? Would a priest shoot you? I can already see newspaper headlines... -
The idea is good, but you might want to call it poison instead of sleeping pills. Using pills on self to go unconscious could fake death so that if you or your party attracts a horde of zombies and you know you're not going to make it, you take a pill and fall so deeply unconscious that zombies see you as a corpse and won't eat you. If you use pills on other guy to make him fall unconscious and then draw blood from him and use that blood on yourself, your vision would go blurry. If you used several poison bloodbags, the effects would be more severe :P

Since KoS is so common, I thought that it would be nice if there were several professions like doctor, mechanic, hunter etc. that would be an incentive for grouping. Doc could see and improve your physical condition by using more common items, mechanic could make make-shift parts by using more common objects, hunter could track animals and gain more food than others with every animal kill (could be useful, if cities are swarming with zombies). Use your imagination and you can lengthen this list. At the moment, the only value of people is their gear. Shoot them in the head. Take their gear. Move on. If people knew, that other players are useful for other tasks, too, it might reduce KoS. I don't have anything against KoS. If people look suspicious I shoot. If I have good gear, I become more and more triggerhappy. I just hope that the players would be more than walking, talking, bleeding, dying lootbags. Other thing that might bring people together is the amount of zombies and their A.I. I bet lone killers might appreciate groups more if they had to go against a group of 20 zombies alone on regular basis. Like in a zombie apocalypse.

Frost-Wolf, I don't like that idea because it doesn't feel realistic that you learn medical skills by clicking a medical book and looking medical instruments and dead bodies. I like to think that all these people running in the gameworld were something BEFORE they woke up on the coast, carrying their skills with them. You won't learn hunting in 12 hours in real life, but with the mechanic you propose, you would be pretty damn good at it by then in DayZ.
-
Mercules, you're right that the skills don't necessarily have to be tied into jobs. There don't have to be doctors, but people who know med stuff or people who's hobby is hunting. Personally, I don't like the idea of getting better at anything you do slowly. I want to have that group incentive up and running from the start. Life expectancy is often quite short in DayZ and it would feel unrealistic to level up from regular John Doe to Doctor Frankenstein after 3 hours of continuous bandaging.

15 doctors running in a city is not realistic. It's not realistic to have 40 strangely fit clones running in a city either. It's also not realistic to eat every 5 minutes or not to be able to put a blood transfusion needle on your arm. I mean, even a meth addict could probably do it. In games, there needs to be a balance between fun and realism. I don't think that a profession would steal any "realism" from this game. If anything, it would add it... @Nalestom, you are right in all points except the last. You should be able to choose your profession when you spawn or people would get frustrated. Or choose to choose not to choose any profession if that rocks your boat :P

I do not want any skill trees. Just set skills from start and that's it. Like, imagine that you have been a doctor for 10 years and then there's zombies. Deal with it. @Jonny45: I do not wish to make KoS vanish. The purpose would be make grouping up to look more appealing than now.

Why are people complaining about KOS like it's a feature issue?
Al Bobo replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
It's up to people how they play. Generally, I don't go head hunting and I might even help other people, but if I see a guy with a gun while I'm standing behind him an axe in my hand....it's tempting. You don't know if the guy will shoot you in the head if you just say Hi. Teaming up is nice but very risky. In extreme survival situation you will want to secure your own ass first. That said, running and gunning is a quick way to make your location known and that's not good at all. At the moment I'm fully geared with m4 and loads of ammo. I have food and drinks for an army. And a can opener! I will shoot anyone who looks even a litlle suspicious without warning. If/when the KoS deterrent comes, I hope that it will be some kind of item destruction system. I don't want to wear rags on my head nor do I want a big, flashy arrow on top of my head saying "PK".
