Adding the ability for a character to kick
overdosed (DayZ) replied to Legalese03's topic in Suggestions
I think hes suggesting a kick that would knock zombies or ppl off their feet, but however cool that sounds its gonna be hella annoying to deal with, so i gotta say im against. -
You have to put it on the gun... xD

How does saline give blood?

Ammo in military bases, the rifle itself in civilian areas.

Where is everyone? NW Airfield not a hotspot anymore?
overdosed (DayZ) replied to Denzje's topic in General Discussion
New to dayz, but NWAF is the place to loot for me. Ive died 2 times since launch and every time I spawn I head there going through the 2 military camps on the way. Ive only seen 3 players there, 2 server hopper buddies and 1 axe murder(first death thanks to him, I had no idea he can 1 shot me with an axe, the more you learn eh? xD) -
The only zombies I could imagine working in dayz are walkers and runners. Walkers are bassically what we have now, and runners you cant outrun. Thats not only due to what would fit, but also due to the fact that more types of zombies with different behaviours and models will greatly reduce the number of zombies that can be spawned, and thats a problem even as they are now.

Ive been thinking that a good way to handle melee would be to go with a system similar to that of games like the mount and blade series. For whoever is not acquainted with the way combat works in mount and blade, its basically something like this - you move your mouse up, down, left and right and while doing that hold LMB to get the stance for different attacks - swings from left to right, right to left, overhead swings and thirsting attacks and after that you release your lmb to execute. Same thing goes for blocking - you block and then using mouse movement you can block hits incoming from differrent directions(being able to block in dayz would be nice, though not really that necessary of a function). The main idea is to easily be able to execute different attacks depending on the scenario and the weapon that you have(overhead attacks in cqb, and left and right swings depending on where your target is) without cluttering the controls even more. And it doesnt really sound like something that would be impossible or even hard to do. Any thoughts?

Some thoughts about melee combat
overdosed (DayZ) replied to overdosed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
True, but sadly you cant really bind those things in the controls, and the mouse movement thing is a whole new system of its own to create so having both options sounds like a long shot. Best case scenario we can get both and be able to switch between them in the options, but if i have to choose one im still backing to mouse movement system. -

Again more keybinds is a bad thing. And, im sorry but the only thing the server would have to detect is wich way did you aim your mouse up, down, left or right. In this system you cant just swipe wherever you wish. This just allows you execute 4 different attacks with your weapon by just moving your mouse in a direction after youve primed your weapon to swing. You dont need more animations for this, than for what you are proposing, and if the server is having problems detecting frantic mouse movement im PRETTY sure aiming your gun would be a big problem. Yeah you prefer another way of handling melee but except that you like the other system better, your arguments are pretty much invalid. Oh and maybe I didnt choose the best wording, but you dont actually swipe to execute the attack, you move your mouse in the direction to just get the stance for that attack and then you release LMB to execute. -

Attacking in this way is much harder, for me atleast and remember that you have separate keybinds for all those in chivalry(correct me if im wrong but i havent played the game in ages), and no additional keybinds is one of the big bonuses of the m&b combat system. -

Thats nothing like what combat in Skyrim is lol. What we have now is more akin to what combat in Skyrim is, except there are no heavy attacks and there is only 1 animation xD -
Yeap, been thinking the same. Would be nice to have that option for hoodies and anything else that has a hood in the future.

Im not trying to push anything. Just saying that having smooth low fps is 100 times better than having high fps with constant drops. Whenever youre playing a game its best to cap your fps at its most stable, not at its highest.
-
You dont really get much more of anything with 60 fps over 30. And getting 60 somewhere than 45 or 30 in other places makes for even worse gameplay as those big dips are represented as terrible stuttering. Having your fps capped at a lower number than your max fps almost eliminates those terrible fps spikes and stuttering, which makes for a better experience. And yeah dxtory is the best way to cap fps. Been using it for awhile. You can even create profiles for different games so that you dont have to change it every time you play something else.

How exactly do you switch to semi auto? I thought theres no option for that yet. On topic though - for me atleast using the mosin as a solo player isnt very smart. If youre not just going around murdering ppl 9 times out of 10 youre gonna have to use your gun in close quarters and you loose too much firepower in cqb with the mosin. When in a group though having 1 guy with a mosin with the long range scope run security while the other/s are scavenging is a very good idea.

Yes thats true but currently in dayz you can increase your gamma and brightness double over what you can in most other games. Uhm I see youre a fan of looking at a black screen being able to only distinguish the silhouettes of trees and buildings against the night sky, which btw is FILLED with stars and even if the moon was down youd have much better visibility. And I dont know if youve noticed but when the moon goes down even with both gamma and brightness maxed all you see is pitch black except again the silhouettes of things against the sky, which again is FILLED with stars. Dunno if youve ever been outside of a city, but yeah in a clear night even without the moon and no light polution you can see much better than this...

Combat logging, Ghosting and Server hopping...
overdosed (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
I really dont understand why are ppl constantly suggesting crazy ideas for fixing those things. For combat loggers, just do what mmos have been doing for a decade now(if not even more) You want to log out - you have to sit still for 20 seconds. If you dont want to wait or alt f4 your character just stays in the world defenseless for several minutes. For ghosting - when you switch servers you get a 5 minute cooldown until you can join the last one you were in. Server hopping - If you switch servers more than X times in X amount of time you get a global ban for Y amount of time until you can join any server. Am I missing something or is it just so easy?! -
Combat logging, Ghosting and Server hopping...
overdosed (DayZ) replied to overdosed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah and it would also mean that if the server accidentally goes down - youre fucked. If the server is full - youre fucked. If you want to go play with some else in another server - youre fucked. If you want to change server because the one youre playing on is full of idiots - youre fucked. This would create more problems than it solves. Never played the mod, but from what I know those things werent fixed in there too. -
First of all I LOVE games with actual dark nights or games that incorporate darkness as a part of the gameplay. Ive spend hundreds of hours playing fallout 3 using mods for darker nights and interiors coupled with nvg mods, and the metro games are in my top 5 favourite game series. So im all up for dark nights, but currently nights in dayz are too dark. There should be a balance between too dark and and not dark enough. For me this means that its dark enough to facilitate the need for flashlights in buildings and its dark enough so that nvgs would give you a real advantage. This means that there must be ambient lighting constantly no matter if the moon is up or not and that players should be able to see atleast the outlines of their character and items on the ground at all times unless in a windowless building. Having the gamma slider though kinda destroys any improvements that are done to night time as ppl would aways opt for the best visibility. Theres no real fix for that except reducing how far the slider goes and somehow restricting gamma and brightness to be handled only by the game and inturn making monitor or gpu settings useless. Though i have no idea if thats even possible.

Some wisdom Ive collected as a new player for other new players.
overdosed (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
First, I am totally new to dayz, I didnt play the mod as my pc couldnt really handle it at a good enough framerate, so what tips I can give come from 2 days of play time and generally not being too much of an idiot. 1. Find a canteen or a water bottle and fill them up at pumps. You can also drink directly from the pumps.(to fill up containers put them in your hands go into first person and use the scroll menu) 2. When you get the im hungry or thirsty message, its already too late. The way the system works now, you get the message when youre already at 20 or 30% so you should always have food and water with you and consume them at short intervals. Every time you find a pump or more food than you can carry drink and eat until you start getting the message that youre stuffed or comepletely full.(at this point you also start regenerating blood) 3. If your character starts moaning - youre probably sick. Find alcohol or antibiotics use them and eat and drink until youre full, you start getting better in no time. Without the medicine itll just take much more time. 4. Keep yourself dry. You can get sick if you get too wet. 5. Do not eat rotten fruit. If you do you can use charcoal pills. 6. To open cans of food you need an axe, a knife, a bayonet or a can opener. Just drag the item you want opened on your tool of choice(or the other way around its the same thing) Though keep in mind that if you open a can with something thats not a can opener you get less food and the tool looses durability. 7.Dont sprint everywhere. This depletes your energy much faster. Try to run, and when in buildings walk if you feel comfortable with the speed. 8. The wind always blows east, so by watching the clounds you can get a bearing of your direction(picked that up on the wiki) 9. Do not stay at the coast. After you spawn, scavenge the closest village for some food and water and then head inland. 10. When traveling, never use the roads. The woodline is your friend, always follow the road from a distance or just go through the wilderness. 11. Avoid large open areas without cover. 12. Do not storm potential loot spots, always take the time to scout around and see if theres already someone there. 13. Since now you cant tell if theres a player somewhere by the zombies spawns as in the mod, look for open doors. If the doors are open someone has either already been there after the server restart or is still there. Which leads me to my next point. 14. Try to always close doors behind you especially when youre entering a building to loot it. If someone stumbles at the same building this might give you the upper hand as they might not expect to encounter someone if the door was closed. If you dont follow the roads and scout locations before going in, youll have a much better chance in seeing ppl before they see you and in turn have the ability to observe them before deciding to aproach, engage or leave them alone. This should increase your survival rate substantially. Ill keep adding more tips as I think of them. Also feel free to give more tips in here so I can add them to the list. -
You need a special grip(the name escapes me right now) and the flashlight attachment. Its a separate item from the flashlight that you start with. Its written in the grips description that its designed to support railed attachments.

Ah, the typical hardcore forum poster that lives to take other ppls comments out of context and to try and belittle other peoples opinions and thoughts. Your attempt at humour is lost on me.

Will player movement always be client sided ?
overdosed (DayZ) replied to Slangy's topic in General Discussion
Oh god, I feel so sorry for you. Im getting 100mbps for the equivalent of 10 euro(maybe 13-14 dollars) where I live. And to your question i really have no idea. Though you should appreciate the fact that even though SA runs on a mmo like architecture its not at all like what guild wars 2 runs on. In gw2 theres no precision aiming all the combat is done with soft lock(which inturn reduces the need for precision data on player location) and thats something that requires substantially less broadband than what a shooter needs, especially a shooter with a map of the scope of dayz. So i dont really think that the broadband needs of the game would go down much. -
Sorry for you bro. I myself have never played the mod, started with the standalone. Have 15 hours of playtime on 1 char. I have a fully modded M4(flashlight, silencer, acog, cqb stock), with 2 40 round and 2 30 round magazines with 4 more mags worth of ammo in my backpack, FN pistol with a red dot with 4 full mags and 3 more worth of ammo in my inventory, military helmet, combat boots, gas mask, tactical vest in pristine condition, 2 plastic water bottles and 2 canteens. Food is easily available everywhere so i rarely keep more than 3 cans on me. I also have some vitamins, some charcoal, 1 saline IV, some antibiotics a ton of bandages, a defibrillator(though i have no idea how it works and why i keep it as im still lonewolfing it), Mosin sniper scope(incase I find a mosin and decide i want a sniper rifle) and 60 7.62 rounds. So yeah I dont know what youre talking about. Oh and ive outlived 3 unlucky bandits that decide they can take me(1 at a time though, im not that badass xD)

Silencer not working on M4 Standalone
overdosed (DayZ) replied to jsanchez1230's topic in New Player Discussion
I just tested it. It doesnt really do anything yet. Just looks cool on my M4 with acog, flashlight and 40 round magazines(or clips, whatever i dont really care so dont correct me).
