    Sawn-off Shotgun, not what you'd think.

    I can confirm that the sawn off shoots confetti. Was at NEAF in one of the buildings with a cell. Was at the stairs, unloaded both barrels at a guy at the door(who was already hurt btw, heard him moaning) he didnt even bleed and finished me off with his M4, no problems. And I did hit him, I saw the pellet impacts. I was using snap loaders. I guess this needs testing, I still havent shot anyone with the normal shotgun variant. Edit: Heck, look at this vid. He needs 2 shots to kill a zombie from point blank at 0:50 with the sawnoff.

    You do know that multiple people work on the game and all of them work on different things right? You cant have the animators working on the netcode or the asset creators optimizing servers...

    The hills west and south-west of the construction site offer a perfect sniping position. I myself have sniped people from there.

    i Want to play this game but..

    Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 Ghz 4 GB DDR2 Ram GForce 9600GT I can run the game just fine at low settings with lower resolution. Ive capped my fps at 30 and it stays at 30 almost all the time, with only getting 20-30 in cities. Ill be building a new rig next month though. But for some strange reason I get much, much worse performance on the mod.

    Uhm, FNX mags take up only 1 square. Only the bigger M4 mags take up 2 slots.

    10 minute is not enough to loot dead bodies you put down

    Yeap 10 minutes is not enough. Many times after a kill id wait and scout around for 5-10 minutes before i approach the corpse to check if he had buddies or if there are other players in the vicinity that pose a potential threat. Finding corpses is also a great part of the game. You can never know if the killer is still in the vicinity or if theres a sniper camping the corpse so you always have to take your time and scout around. With only 10 minutes people would have to either rush to the corpse and risk dying or leave it and miss out on loot. Best solution for this if it was implemented for performance is what someone suggested above - servers can hold a certain number of corpses and each time that number is reached the oldest corpse goes into a 10 minute cooldown before it disappears. Player corpses are a really big part of gameplay so i hope that this is just temporary.

    First of all i gotta say that i do prefer playing on 1pp servers. Playing in first person only is much more immersive, but i do have one big gripe with first person in dayz. Like in many other shooters(bf, cod etc..) your eyes are on your neck instead of where they should be. Thats done to prevent head glitching - standing and shooting behind cover while only your forehead is visible, thus making it really hard for others too shoot you or even impossible sometimes. But in those games, theres only first person and the environment is modeled according to your height in first person, i.e. even though your eyes are on your neck, you dont really notice it as there are no walls or windows that are just high enough so you couldnt peek over them and everything is up to scale with your first person height so you dont feel like a midget. But in dayz the environment seems to be modeled around your normal height and not first person height so its full windows or walls that you cant peek over. Its also really noticeable that your character is pretty short while in first person. I really dont think that "neck eyes" are really that necessary here. The environment just doesnt offer many places where youd be able to head glitch. And my true gripe with first person - its really bugging me how short i feel while in first person.

    Doest this just zoom out, thus harming your vision? Also every dayz video ive seen where first person has been used is the same thing, I dont think that this is a solution. Edit: Yeap just tried it out, it just zooms out which does more harm than anything. This looks like a feature to help in cqb. Nothing like what im talking about.

    First person only servers offer much better gameplay. You really get immersed in the game. Though one problem remains with 1pp - the eyes of your character are on his neck, which makes him too short and you cant peek over stuff that you should be able to.

    Uhm, I think that only happens on film(how the camera catches the reflected light from their eys), when you actually look at a lion or whatever other animal at night their eyes dont glow.

    Or, you know - dont fucking hide in the grass from snipers. There are so many superior ways to get better cover. Find a bush or a tree or use the terrain, by hiding behind a small elevation or in ravines. And if you get caught by a sniper while running through a huge field with zero cover, its your own freaking fault for not finding a better although slower way to approach your target.

    Man, how I wish that an autowalk and toggle sprint functions are implemented. There have been multiple instances where I would have to cross vast distances in the wilderness with little to no chance of encountering players when an autowalk function wouldve saved me much trouble and allowed me to actually do something with my hands without having to stop.

    Steam servers down? Ive been playing on and off for hours now and havent encountered any steam problems whatsoever. And even if we disregard this, ive never in my life heard of steam servers going down, and ive been using steam for a loooooong time.

    What about rifle slings?

    Would be pretty nice to have slings as an attachment for long guns. Slings would basically allow you to use your hands wihtout having to put your gun away on your back when youre eating drinking, pulling out a pistol etc, and would shorten the time that you need to reequip your rifle. Slings could also allow for the carrying of two rifles without having to drop the second one every time you use your hands(one rifle on a sling and one on your back). There can be many sling variants including crafted ones - with rope, rags and whatever other items are introduced to the game that can be used. Different types of slings and their condition can affect how fast you equip your weapon and how fast can you sprint(always slower than with your weapon on your back) And when the sling is ruined it just disappears and your weapon falls on the ground. In a pinch slings could also be used as a makeshift tourniquet that you can apply faster than a bandage but is only temporary and in time youll have to stop and properly bandage yourself or youll start loosing blood again.

    From what I understand there are 3 types of slings(just checked it out). Heres 3 vids that describe how each type works. Each type offers the ability to carry the weapon infront of you. And unless we go for super realism(which is not the point of dayz) there shouldnt be any problems in using slings in the way that I suggested.

    Adding the ability for a character to kick

    New spawns? Everybody is gonna be able to do it, and its just gonna be ppl camping in buildings in high traffic areas waiting to kick someone disable them and then hold them up or easily kill em. Its going to make close quarters combat pretty retarded and guns would be close to useless in buildings. Also im already imagining all the "trolls" just trying to kick ppl off ledges, ladders etc. Hell youtube will be filled with videos of this. I think its already enough that you can knock someone down with 1-3 punches to the head.

    Desync

    So can somebody please explain to me what desync is supposed to be(never seen anything like that in another game) and how come its still happening in the SA when the whole server architecture is supposedly more mmo like and nothing like what it was in the mod. My best guess about desync is that it occurs when the server looses connection with the client for a period of time and cant accurately follow your actions, so everything stays client side and when the desync stops the information for the time that you were desynced just gets sent in a big chunk to the server?

    Suggested the same thing. It would make the melee much more useful and interesting. Having to use overhead strikes in closed quarters and paying attention to your surroundings so that you dont hit walls and other obstacles with your side swings. Only problem is it might be too much of a hassle to implement it, but I doubt its going to be too hard.

    Change the ACOG reticule

    The current reticule is close to useless at night, unless you up your gamma and brightness. Actual acog sights are self illuminated(reticule is made from a radioactive tritium isotope i think?), dont require batteries and work more or less like the red dots in the game.
