Yeah Im hoping that gear would become much harder to come by after awhile. My best bet is that its so abundant right now, so that items can be properly tested. Running around with almost nothing, while trying to evade bandits, get some food before you starve and find some sort of weapon is the most fun you can have in Dayz. -

There is a huge amount of backpacks used for different situations. There are some really similar to the hunting backpack, there are smaller ones, there are huge ones. I suggested a camo mountain pack mostly so it can be added to the game with the least amount of work.

The design here is the bullpup design, not the tkb-011. Ofcourse it didnt become popular, by the time people started looking at the bullpup design again they just built new rifles, ofcourse they wont reuse a 40 year old rifle. But they used parts of the tkb-011 design. The FN 2000 for example uses the same cartridge ejection system. -

And there it is - the game is semi-realistic. Also it didnt go into production because "Although these assault rifles performed well, they were turned down by the Soviet army for being too radical at that time." Same as many other weapons, tools, and whatever you can imagine. There have been many inventions that have been overlooked when first introduced and then adopted many years later. The bullpup design has become popular only in recent years. -

So what? Chernarus and Dayz in general are in now way a true representation of the world we live in, or even of an existing place. In the universe of Dayz maybe the gun went into production, saw some use and is now a collectors item that can be found around the world including in Chernarus. It can even be similar to the mosin and the sks - mass produced in many countries with surplus rifles flooding the market and used for recreational shooting due to reliability and dirt cheap ammunition. -

Oh, really?! Well I guess we should disable all damage make everyone immortal, and spawn ppl with 100 slot backpacks filled to the brim with food and water, no need of weapons as everyone is immortal. Also might remove zombies as they are dangerous. You do not deserve to play this game.... Now atleast you wont be able to combat log so i guess you might aswell stop playing because its dangerous, your character might die. -

Sounds and looks like a shotgun modded for infinite ammo, but in the end it might have just been an M4 with a strange sound bug, or just plain simple lag/desync. Also I really like how you were on the verge of combat logging, but you didnt because you remembered that theres a logout timer now..... -
I see you did not understand my post. What I want to see is - military backpacks spawn in military locations, hunting backpacks spawn in places connected to hunting or where one might store such items and civilian backpacks spawn in homes - houses, apartment buildings etc.. And i know they are going to add more, even I suggest a military camo variant of the mountain backpack lol.

Well ofcourse reading and understanding are two different things. Thats why I said that I can read cyrillic, but i cant speak russian(which includes understanding it) which for the purposes of the game is enough since in Dayz it all comes down to being able to read and distinguish between the names of towns and places. And 'bout latin a cyrillic, yes thats true, but its abit too much work for most people. Memorizing 30 letters highly similar to the alphabet that you use shouldnt take you more than 5-10 mins, but oh well some people just cant be bothered. -

Well not really, the differences between cyrillic and cyrillic are small enough that anyone who knows a language that uses cyrillic can easily read and pronounce most words from other cyrillic languages. And cyrillic also has more letters than latin. There are many letters in cyrillic that describe a sound which to translate in latin youd need a combination of letters. And thats where most people that are used to the latin alphabet encounter difficulties. -
Ive been thinking about something along those lines, but yeah dog tags might be abit out of place. But some kind of ID would be nice. Being able to see who ive killed or hold up can be helpful. Also something that lists your blood type either directly when you spawn or after you check it would help alot in simplifying the blood system abit and making blood bags more sought after than saline. Maybe just add identity cards that you cant throw away(and dont really take up inventory space) and allow players to check them on corpses and handcuffed players.

Reading russian? Thats cyrillic. An alphabet that was fyi first adopted by Bulgaria, and then by many other countries across eastern Europe. Aand yeah I can read cyrillic, but I cant speak russian, which for the purposes of Dayz is enough. -
1 mag in the gun and 2 extra is perfectly fine.

Rust is just minecraft with guns. Its rather built around building a base and crafting than surviving in a post apocalyptic scenario. And if you ask me it looks rather silly. Not my cup of tea to be honest.

Uhm, excuse me, but the guy with the Governor as his avatar speaking against player killing is kinda the apogee of hipocricy... Or have you not watched the show? And "main character wise", what? What about the rest of the characters in the series? -
The world feels empty, eh? Having more than I dont know maybe 60 players max at any time on the current map will make it into a huge clusterfuck. You wont be able to find any loot and you will get shot absolutely anywhere you go. Having too many people might just turn the map into a huge battlefield. 40 is just fine, and if you ask me 30 is the perfect number of players, considering that dayz is a zombie survival game and the map is not as big as some people think.

A better way to handle inventory and item damage from attacks

I think we can all agree that current way that your clothing and items get damaged from player or zombie attacks is kinda ridiculous. Even getting hit by a zombie a couple of times will probably if not ruin badly damage most of your clothing and the items inside and getting shot even if you dont die will ruin everything. As that is not really the final way things like this are going to be handled(I hope) theres much to be improved and some suggestions along that way should be appreciated. And I havent really seen any threads on the matter. So here are my thoughts. RIght now if you get hit in the torso everything there gets damaged, doesnt matter if you got hit from the front or the back everything will be damaged and there is no difference between melee or firearm damage. Melee - damage from melee hits should not pass through your character. If you get hit from the front, your backpack wont be damaged, only your vest and torso clothing with the items inside should be damaged. If you get hit in the back, your backpack will be damaged + the items inside. As we all know there are different melee weapons, we have fists and theres zombie melee. Those should be set up in categories depending on how they damage your gear. Fists - gear damage should be minimal or even nonexistent. Even if you get killed by fists from full health your gear should at most get worn with maybe the only exception being masks or motorbike helmets. Zombies - gear damage should also be minimal but bigger than what fists do. Zombies should also be able to damage your backpack(getting pummeled by zombies could break the straps etc), but not the items inside it, aswell as helmets and masks. Blunt melee - damage is only done to the items in your inventory and not your clothing with the exception of helmets. Sharp melee - Damage is done mostly to your clothing with the items inside it taking minimal damage. Firearms - now with bullets there should be no difference if you were hit from behind or infront. They should pass through you. But they should do minimal damage to your clothing(2 wholes and some blood doesnt count as ruined) and high damage to the items inside it. An exception to low damage to clothing should be helmets, masks and bullet proof vests. Now that weve cleared this, its time to figure out how are items inside your clothing are going to get damaged. Right now everything gets damaged and thats a bit ridiculous. A better way to do this imho would be to instead damaging everything only damage a certain number of random inventory squares with the chance of those being empty and thus not damaging any items. For example - you get shot in the torso, youre wearing a hoodie, a vest and a backpack. One random square is chosen in both your hoodie and vest and the item residing in it is ruined. And 2 random squares are chosen in your backpack and the items residing in them are ruined. With melee weapons the only difference should be that more squares are chosen than with firearms. And so every time you get hit a part of your items get damaged. I think this would not only reduce the amount of ruined gear and make the way it gets damaged more realistic, but it would also force players to learn some trigger discipline. I can think of many other good things thatll come out of this, but the thread is already long enough. -
