Suggestion: Less accurate, less damaging (PVP) weapons. Reasoning?: Authenticity, more protracted and exciting firefights. Changes: [Player] More spread and less accurate shots, introduce random placements of shots within a spread area over distance. This is not a reflection in change to the gun modelling, but to the person holding the gun. [Guns] Less immediate trauma damage to player, damage mostly done by bleeding and blood loss. PROS: -Longer and more intense firefights -Firefights that don't end with one shot -More likely that an encounter will end with wounds and retreat, thereby resulting in a story/narrative for the player. -Make players think even harder about engagements, since ammo is scarce and more would have to be fired. -Possibility for bandits to have to track/hunt a survivor, perhaps introduce subtle blood trails for this purpose. CONS: -possible frustration for people who are looking for a Counterstrike-like experience Argument: There are several documented and televised exchanges of gunfire that do not necessarily result in death. In fact, due to panic, its fairly common for two people to empty a clip at each other from 30 feet away and no one getting hit. Most bullet wounds, unless they hit the heart or the head, do not necessarily result in immediate death, but then the victim eventually succumbs to internal bleeding or trauma, or some kind of complication. It would be interesting, in my opinion, to have gunfights that don't just end in one shot executions. Have any of you shot a gun? I have, and it turns out I'm not very good at it. Hitting a target is very hard, hitting one accurately and lethally would be much more difficult. In the heat of the moment, with that much adrenaline going through a person, it would only make things even more difficult. I envision a gunfights that starts with a miss, that results in both sides taking cover and exchanging shots, much like you see in a war torn part of the world on the news. These shots rarely hit their target, but the tension and uncertainty I think would translate to exciting times. Even if these things were just tweaked slightly, I think it would translate to a more authentic and generally terrifying experience. Go ahead and shut me down, I would like to hear what the arguments are for super precise and accurate military-trained survivors.

Humanity original fix - Rocket, give us a minute!
[email protected] replied to blackdawn101's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea of being able to get a description of someone at a distance. I don't think it should be on the map though. Just give a mousewheel option when cursoring over another player within 50m. "Looks tired and worn down, but honesty twinkles in his eyes" - high humanity "His blank empty stare pierces through air" - low humanity -
I absolutely agree, a hunting rifle bug game round would destroy someone. And yes, I've fired many guns. Even with a scoped rifle like this, I would probably never hit a man-sized target from 500 yards on the first shot unless I was really lucky. But I admit I'm not a very good shot in real life. Shooting isn't like it is in a video game, you don't just put the crosshairs on and the gun does everything for you. Just by pulling the trigger, you can skew the shot in any number of directions very easily. You have to be a machine to be as accurate as the bullet is out of the barrel. Have you seen how far 500 yards is? Have you pointed a gun down a range and SEEN how far that is? 200 yards is a really daunting shot, I don't think I've even seen a range that went 500 yards in my neck of the woods.

Um can someone answer question bout beta patch/new dayz updater?
[email protected] replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know you can play on older versions of the beta if you have a newer version, but I'm not sure about non-beta servers. You probably have to launch the non-beta client if you want to do that. There should be a version number in the bottom right hand corner of the main menu, if its says 93701 or whatever then you are running the beta client. -
I don't think gunshot wounds are as hollywood as people think they are. I don't think people just drop dead instantly like in an old west movie. Its an ugly process where the trauma causes all kinds of internal hemmoraging, low blood pressure turns to shock, etc. I'm not trying to say that a .45 ACP suddenly loses force because it's fired by a lesser person, but that a bullet wound fired by anyone wouldn't necessarily cause immediate and convenient death. But since I'm getting completely stampeded with my suggestion that PVP should be "harder", I guess I'll drop it :P

Well if not the less accurate, what about less immediate damage? Seems that everyone wants to have a Battlefield or Call-of-Duty like accuracy from their survivor, but what about putting a few bullets in someone and not getting an immediate kill. I know this happens already, I'm just saying a tweak here and there would make things more uncertain and exciting. Overall I just think people should be less lethal because they are people, not an elite navy seal commando superman. Obviously my idea is not very popular :(.

A new 'status' to encourage cooperation
[email protected] replied to ScienceCow's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What? I don't want to have to drop prozac just because I don't want to be around anyone. That is really really silly given the scenario in DayZ. I have read on wikipedia that psychopaths are often schizophrenic, so maybe people with REALLY low humanity should start hearing things. -
Describe the Day Z Community in FOUR WORDS or less.
[email protected] replied to Yammazul's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cold blooded mother-fuckers. -
Every morning it seems I see the unique characters climb from 195,000 to 200,000, from 200,000 to 205,000, and today its over 210,000. Does this mean that each day 5,000 people or so are buying ARMA2 and making DayZ characters? If that is accurate that is pretty amazing. However I wonder how the hive is going to hold up to all this load, and since each server only holds about 50 people, that would mean new servers need to go up on - what seems to me - a daily basis. We might be in for some bumpy times ahead!

5,000 daily new unique players?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, I work as an EA for an ISP, so I know how subscription rates don't necessary = capacity. 5,000 more people might have signed up, but that might only mean about 20 people concurrently at peak hours. There is certainly capacity everywhere I look right now. However, getting data to and from the hive is sketchy sometimes, and we have no idea how their hardware is configured or how much capacity it has. It already sometimes takes 5 seconds to loot a can of beans, but we'll see how this 1.7.1 patch streamlines things. -
Traps to be added in a later patch - thoughts?
[email protected] replied to S1ippery Jim's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really don't want to be surviving okay only to get my face blown off by COD4 claymores everywhere. Then you spawn on the beach and get blown up by a claymore.... If they just break stuff or slow you down, or "root" you then I'm fine with that. -
How much would you pay?
[email protected] replied to imagelesskjc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is easily worth the full price of $60. However, I think ARMA2/AO owners should get a discount. I'm against monthly fees however, since the community owns and pays for the servers. Microtransactions might work if they ever implement skins, then people can buy hats. HATS. C'mon BIS+Rocket, you know where da munny'at -
I have a Q6600 that runs the game swimmingly. Your 250 is a bit on the aging side but you should be OK, and if you need to 1280x720 should boost your frames.

Will it run on my laptop? (system specs inside)
[email protected] replied to Riverstyx's topic in New Player Discussion
Close but no cigar. You might get it running at painfully low resolutions but it wouldn't be the experience you're looking for. I believe there is an ARMA 2 Free version you can try to see if your laptop can even handle the engine. -
Never tried the makarov, but it takes like 9 Glock shots, or two revolver rounds. I've only broken in twice so far.

The flies/crows on very low humanity discussion
[email protected] replied to switch296's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No Making psychopaths stinky and crowey is not authentic. Just add more to the game and the boredom problem resolves itself. More than 20 words: Make people recognizable as in the real world and psychopaths will eventually earn infamy. -
Why is the life expectancy going up?
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you changed the loot tables at some point, maybe in 1.6. In 1.5.8 I never found any ammo or guns, and there were way more zombies. The only other thing I can think of is that people are just learning and being more careful. If you think about it, 30 minutes is a really silly short time to be alive in DayZ unless you're totally clueless. That's not enough time to run into Cherno even if you spawned right next to it. You said the early data was saturated with quick deaths. Maybe finally the raw numbers are starting to reflect the present state of DayZ players. -
+1 for fucking ZOMBIE BEARS! You would need a lot more than one .45 long from a winny to drop an 800 lb infected bear coming at you. A Makaraov should probably not even be able to stop it.
-
I could see this being plausible if there were more servers available, because of technical reasons I can only get a handful working good for me. However, I think the loot reclaiming could be done away with in a more graceful fashion. I don't think there is a big problem with teams being able to salvage someone's loot for them. This is kind of like a passive reward for teamwork.

What are my chances of NOT winding up in the ocean? 50-50? Me and a friend decided to take the plunge and put on the camo and I put on the ghillie suit in empathy. Die alone, together spawn in the ocean. Anways, wondering what my chances are. DayZ 1.7.0 Arma OA Beta 93666 Logged off on a 93616 server.
