The community is poo poo
replied to Tegla (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tegla I think it was a bad timing thing you experienced. There was a legimate beef to be had with the hotfix/patch not spawning food or bandages, combined with the reduction in starting bandages and how much every survivor is a hopeless hemophilliac that made things a little broken. Unfortunately there are a handful of people that will immediately look for conflict instead of discussion :P. So you got poo-poo'd from knee-jerk reactions, but mostly the community is pretty good. If only we could downvote the worthless posts like Reddit! -
FPS Issues (Come Post Your Specs)
replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would assume this works for shadows and video memory settings only. Terrain detail should only be maximum decals/objects, and texture detail is only the resolution of the textures being called directly from the GPU memory. Since my GPU load is already quite high during gameplay I figured I already had ideal settings. I will test futher by putting terrain detail, object detail and texture detail on very high tonight and compare performance and GPU/CPU loads. I am hitting spikes of 96% GPU load on my SLI cards in thick forests already though. -
FPS Issues (Come Post Your Specs)
replied to 's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you should have to add your CPU LOAD and GPU LOAD in there too. That information is very important. Use MSI Afterburner (free) and the windows taskbar to monitor these. PC Specs CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.5 Ghz Motherboard: Gigabyte P67X-UD3-B3 RAM: 16GB Patriot G2 Graphics Card: GTX 560 (Two in SLI) CPU Load: 48% Typically, 39% Typically in big cities (FPS drop) GPU Load: 55% Typically, up to 90% in forests. 28% Typically in big cities (FPS drop). NOTE: BOTH GPU'S have same load. Ingame Settings Texture detail: medium Video memory: default Anistropic Filtering: normal Antialiasing: off (FXAA forced in config) Terrain Detail: normal Object Detail: normal Shadow Detail: very high HDR Quality: very high Postprocessing Affects: disabled Interface Size: very small Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (1920x1080) 3D Resolution: 1920x1080 (100%) VSync: On (off if performance is poor in build/server) FPS Highest FPS: 60 (vsync off 85) Lowest FPS: 24 Average: Too binary to give an average. 60 in the countryside, 30 in big cities (1.7.1.1) CFG Files (Optional, altho the more the better) Default except for the beta patch enabled FXAA to be forced on (works with post-processing off!) FXAA is a much more efficient shader based anti-aliasing routine based on DirectX -
integrated graphics is a big no-no.

What to do once you have all your stuff
replied to Vordreller's topic in New Player Discussion
Keep in mind there are other ARMA maps that could be "easily" converted to DayZ maps according to rocket...so maybe you fly away from Charnarus and crash land somewhere else... -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I gotta say I really like the heartbeat thing. It simulates you being scared shitless by the sight of someone who has the 1000 yard stare of a killer. I wasn't sure at first but it works well in practice. Especially when you have no weapon and you're just being mr. nice, and you're talking to a guy and you hear the heartbeat, you know he's going to kill you. So you play the game of 'I'm just going to disappear when this guy isn't looking'. Its great. -
As a new player, This mod is so difficult its un-playable.
replied to HamHamm's topic in New Player Discussion
1.7.1 was broken. 1.7.1.1 is cool though, and if they fix the loot spawns (only garbage, no bandages, no food, no ammo) it will be the best version yet. The performance of the mod still isn't up to par with Arma II yet, but optimization is the last thing that ever gets looked at in a dev cycle. If you add absolutely anything then all your optimization goes to shit, so it has to be the last thing. -

I think your experience would have been different if loot was spawning correctly. Right now its just mostly empty cans and hatchets, a bug they are looking to fix soon. -
The Importance of CHKilroy
replied to HoboWithAGlock's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I heard about DayZ from Giantbomb, but it was a CHKilroy video that sealed the deal. Mind you that was before I knew Destiny was streaming it. Lately the Destiny videos are the best. -
PROTIP: Having a hatchet is going to be very useful.
replied to ssg (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think backpedalling while swinging the axe is going to fit the game. It will probably be middle mouse click on a zombie, go into longer animation of vicious axe swing to the head. Leaves you vulnerable, and you only really want to do it when you have that just one zombie who won't go away. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update
replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
This thread seems to have a lot of new people that don't understand the playing a game years before its actually out is a privilege. Would you rather hear about DayZ and never get to play it, wonder what the experience is like? Would you prefer Valve wait times for a game? Me, I prefer to be able to experience something early and help shape it if I can. It worked amazingly well for minecraft. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update
replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The devs have stated that feature additions will be the focus of the alpha. The game is not done yet, the are still making it. When it goes into beta status there will be a feature freeze and they will go into fix-only mode. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update
replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Quick test notes of 1.7.1.1 Very nice framerate, at least on my end. Buttery smooth 60 fps. Video cards spike up to 96%/96% use in forests trying to maintain 60FPS. CPU usage hovers at 48%-52%. Went through some towns and the framerate seemed to hold up. Item spawn seems a bit cheaper, barely found anything useful at all. Mostly just hatchets and tin cans. Not sure if intentional, luck, or buggy. Deer stands had nothing at all, most of my loot came from killing the zeds. Balance for line of sight seems a lot better now. They still see you WAY easier, but not from 500 meters. Crouch running seems to make no noise, but makes you insanely visible, not sure if intentional. Zeds ran to the where the sound of my rifle came from, but didn't aggro directly to me. I hid inside a building and they stood where I shot, which was neat. Tin cans still dont do anything to distract them, but flares seem to work pretty good. Hardware: 2x GTX 560 (non ti), Core i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz, 16GB 1600mhz ram -
Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.1
replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Wow, impressive response time to just about every bug with the patch. I never even reported that I couldn't convert ammo from 8Rd to 4x2 Rd, but it looks like you caught it. I got an error something like "you don't have an 8rd magazine" or something. -
I thought the old zombies were better, I like the idea of sneaking through a zombie infested area Sam Fisher style. I thought they were pretty good about how far you could be and such. If they were to be made harder, I'm okay with that, but I think a tweak is all it needed. As it is there is no way to sneak past zombies in 1.7.1 and I think that kind of breaks DayZ's core of stealth and evasion first and foremost. I love all the other changes though. Once the performance issues are fixed and the zombies no longer respawn on your head I'll probably go back to 1.7.1, but I think the zombies still need tweaking. Man should be the real monster we fear, which is kind of the underlying social commentary of DayZ.

1.7.1 the same shit performance?
replied to huma's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Just gotta throw my 2 cents in, my performance has degraded with this patch. I'm sure the intention is there in the code but something is off. I'm watching 2 different "famous' internet streamers running at 10 fps right now. I'm barely able to make 20 fps myself and had 60fps in good 1.7.0 servers (emphasis on the good). Just reportin' it. Not complaining or anything. -
Just wanted to post that I'm watching both Destiny (Steven Bonell) AND Jp's stream (ItMeJP MLG Starcraft 2 caster) and they are having HUGE performance issues with the new patch, like 10 fps. JP is using another computer with hardware streaming and its chugging badly. I'm sure the performance improvements that were intended are noble and all, but something aint right :P. Also the zombies are spawning WITHOUT PAUSE on top of people's heads. This is a kind of pre-lim bug report for the patch. I'm sure its all on the level just not working out as intended when distributed live. Don't know what else to do to help but report it. Not complaining man, just tell me what to test.

That was from the intended build notes. If you read the actual build notes' date=' you will see only a few animations actually made it into the build. One being the monkey run. The others needed some work still so I didn't put them in. [/quote'] Shit sorry man, too excited to read the real patch notes. Seriously though, zombies spawning in the dozens on my head right after I killed a giant wave, and I was just watching Destiny's stream right now and I watched it happen to him. L4D numbers of zombies spawned right around the corner from him, seriously whoa.

I don't want to be all troll-ey, but I notice worse performance with the new patch than before. This could be because all the servers are getting absolutely blitzed right now, but it actually takes longer to loot and my FPS is worse than it was at the tail end of 1.7.0. BUT THIS HAPPENS PRETTY MUCH EVERY PATCH. So that notwithstanding, the only major complaint I have is that the zombie animations seems pretty much the same. Okay, the new animation I see is the crawler/monkey zombie. He has a new animation. I think I saw some new attack animations. But I was expecting much more thorough, longer and slower animations by the zombies from the "all new mo-capped zombie animations" patch note. They either look the same or too fast still, too spazzy and glitchy. Maybe shit aint working right yet since this is literally the evening of the biggest patch. EDIT: OKAY NEVERMIND!! The biggest problem is zombies spawning LITERALLY ON TOP OF ME IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOZENS!! OH GOD!!

Is recombining a completely new mechanic, or is it just new for that ammo and I've been missing something the whole time? -

Overabundance of servers.
replied to bogroll (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Weird to see threads that complain about services being too UN-congested and overly available. I guess people will complain about anything. I've been through enough shit launches to appreciate a little bit of forsight and over-subscription as something takes off. -
Pending Update 1.7.1 Details
replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Probably thanks to all the hax. This reminds me of the adventure update for Minecraft, everyone was waiting and begging for it so finally they leaked a beta of the patch to people unofficially. -
After installing DayZ at a friend's house for LAN use, I struggled to get the new beta patch 93825 to work, but I kept getting stuck at loading. After rolling back to 93701 I was able to get into games, but now I'm teleported to the endless debug wilderness. EDIT: Nevermind, I ran back. I was about 6-7 km away from the map.
