You have to be like massively starving to die of hunger. I ran through miles of forest with constant hunger messages, got my bearings, found a town, chowed down on some beans, sardines and tuna and I was just fine.

do people actually want a complicated medical system?

I think finding a non-rotten banana is actually pretty exciting. -
Should just not have eaten rotten banana in first place. :P I'm pretty sure it's better to be hungry for a while until you find something edible than it is to start scarfing down rotten fruit.

...and beans just out of reach...damn.

I think she could use some lotion perhaps? :P

I thought it was funny too that the price for alpha was 30 bucks... ...I was willing to pay more!
-
Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
ninjacalypse replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Why are we paying 30 bucks/£20 for an Alpha? Because you're not paying for early access, you're literally buying the game. Early access just happens to be a perk that comes with that. And WarZ? WarZ was just trying to cash in on the coattails of DayZ and that game launched already and it was so crappy Valve pulled it off of Steam. I've heard people ranting about games in open beta and saying stuff like, "You guys can't keep saying, it's a beta forever..." but this isn't even an open beta/beta. This is alpha. Most games I've played/tested in alpha phase were barely playable. I was seriously not expecting much more than a constant crash-fest when I bought this and it was advertised as Alpha but I gotta say, so far this is best Alpha of a game I've played to date. -
From what I've seen,so far defibs seem to be uncommon but in the pool for regular town loot.

Uh...yeah, this is literally in my experience the best alpha version of a game I've ever played. I've played Open Betas and even some Release titles that were worse than DayZ SA. -
"Veterans" will get character wiped just the same as newbs, noobs and newspawns. There are already active PVE servers for players who want to get a feel for DayZ. But to be honest, dying repeatedly is a great way to learn. And there aren't any precious "stats" to epeen and worry about in DayZ.
-
This is actually really, really good for an Alpha. I've played games that were worse/buggier than this and were Open Betas. I've even played actual launch titles that were worse. It's totally playable right now just don't be surprised if you experience frequent character wipes. If you're into permadeath type games, you should love DayZ. You gear up, you die, life goes on. It all adds up to getting to know Chernarus and DayZ better.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it for ya. You've got a word processor right there. That Intel onboard graphics is garbage. And trying to run Windows through that and play DayZ? All I can say is good luck. Your framerate is gonna be terribad.

Simple solution, implement a logout timer.

This game should be prohibitively difficult.
ninjacalypse replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
DayZ already sold nearly 200,000 copies on release. DayZ has plenty of players already even counting for attrition. -
A lot of people have the mindset of "Why should I pay X amount of dollars for an Alpha/Beta?" That's the thing. You don't have to. You can wait until the bugs are ironed out, everything is prettied up and the game launches and then buy it. That's why the game's description in the steam store states very plainly it's in Alpha and there will be bugs. So you're not paying 30 bucks for an alpha/beta of DayZ. You're literally paying 30 bucks for DayZ. As a bonus, you get early access to the game. Players who buy DayZ now are going to have the exact same game as players who buy it at the official launch.

This old chestnut? http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/15n3y8/with_the_current_lack_of_endgame_what_do_you_all/

I would buy it if the price was higher.

ninjacalypse replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
DayZ might be difficult...but I wouldn't call it complex. Also, I think a lot of people just bought the game just because they've heard what an awesome game this is but they don't actually have any idea of *what* kind of game this is. I think a lot of new players also neglected to read the game description (or just ignored it) along with the in-game pop-up that tells you this is still in Alpha. It's got bugs and character wipes are gonna happen on a regular basis. Deal with it. I'm a longtime Roguelike fan too so hunger/thirst, dying, losing all my crap and having to start all over again? Pshah...that's what makes it fun baby. -
I don't know if it should bannable...but I do think a hand should reach through the screen and slap the offending party in the face.

Glitched into a room with a door that cannot be opened....
ninjacalypse replied to Sluggin's topic in General Discussion
Well, I don't want to sound like Captain Obvious here but when you start the game, you get a pop-up warning you that this is still in Alpha, i.e. be prepared for bugs and character wipes on a regular basis. -
View compass with flashlight
ninjacalypse replied to GrumpyGat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was trying to figure out too why my compass wasn't glowing like it did in Arma2. Hopefully, this is something they intend to fix. -
"Loot" your own home for an initial outfit and supplies for the zombie apocalypse
ninjacalypse replied to YukonCornelius's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Well, I've got a buttload of canned tuna and canned spam in the pantry and a real katana, not one of those crappy ones from the novelty stores but a real honest to god folded steel katana. A gerber/mutli-tool would probably be more useful all around though. -

Here's a full list Guns, Vehicles, Items etc. currently in SA. Most are disabled and yet to be enabled in the current build. {Spoiler}
ninjacalypse replied to JDM (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm not familiar with every single book in that list but the ones I do recognize which includes most of them are public domain works that are out of copyright. -
Yeah, I don't want a game like Planetside 2 where SOE laid off half of their development team and then takes more than half of whoever is left to start working on a PS4 version while neglecting their game that is still full of gamebreaking bugs. Not only that but they put out a major patch right at the holidays...full of even more gamebreaking bugs...then take off.
