I haven't actually experienced this. I was just re-arranging my inventory half an hour ago in-game dragging things back and forth between the vicinity box and didn't have any issues.

Character wipes are pretty routine in most Alphas that I've participated in.

Woah buddy. Slow down there. If you read the game description on Steam or failing that you see the pop-up when you start the actual game it reads thusly: "WARNING: This game is early access alpha. Please do not purchase it unless you want to actively support development of the game and are prepared to handle with serious issues and possible interruption of game functioning." Expect bugs, in-game issues and random character wipes often. That pretty much goes for any game in the Alpha stage. If you read the link in my sig, my guide also addresses some of the other issues in-game right now. If you don't know what "alpha" or "beta" means it's a term used in the game development world to describe testing phases. There are many features in DayZ currently that don't function correctly or that aren't fully implemented so you'll have to be patient. Rocket, (the developer) himself has stated many times that players should only buy the Alpha if they want to support the game during it's testing phase. This is not a full game. It isn't. It happens sometimes when you switch servers but it's random. You could hop on 20, 30, hell 50 different servers and not get a wipe and then on the next server, it might wipe.

Rocket himself has even pretty much said not to buy this game unless you want to support the development. Of course, he's underselling it but if you manage to buy the game without reading the various disclaimers you can't really blame anyone but yourself. If this was an open beta or a launch, then yeah I might be more demand-y about stuff but it's not.

It can be slightly daunting for new players though...especially players who don't like reading. There is literally no tutorial in-game...not that there needs to be mind you. But players who haven't done any googling before playing the game and aren't DayZ mod vets will most likely be like, "What the hell?!" and even some DayZ mod vets. It's also slightly befuddling because there are tons of guides on the DayZ mod that only partly apply to the DayZ SA Alpha. I just put a semi-comprehensive survivor's guide together today for the DayZ SA Alpha specifically that I think addresses most of these issues, if people are willing to actually read it.

Oh, I see. I think most people play windowed to access maps/wikis/forums/etc. though. Combat loggers will be addressed and fixed sooner or later though. In Planetside 2 if you log out and you've taken damage in the last 8 seconds, you die and the guy that damaged you gets the kill. They might implement something similar to that or perhaps just something as simple as a logout timer. And if you crash in the middle of a fight, you'll probably just bite it. Not a perfect solution but for the majority of cases, reasonable.

You could...but everywhere is kinda somewhere...anyone that knows how to orient themselves can walk their way back to a town easily enough even from the edge of Chernarus.

How is alt-tabbing DayZ out of the active window an exploit...especially when it leaves you vulnerable and AFK?

It would be impossible for the game to determine 100% what was and wasn't a justified kill. There are more factors than simply just if a player has shot you or a "friend." I believe some sort of karma like system might have been mentioned by Rocket but we're still in an early stage of the game development right now.

As has already been mentioned, DayZ uses your Steam persona/community name. This is not the same as your Steam account name. FYI, It is not recommended you use the same Steam persona name as your account name. You can change your Steam name from the Community tab and editing your user profile.

Insults about "mommy's basement" and calling people "forum lurkers" when you just joined the forum yourself isn't a great way to try and make a point or make yourself sound like you're right. I have to agree with what pretty much everyone else has said counter to your OP as well. Your suggestion for example about forcing players to choose Red. vs. Blue factions in DayZ is completely contrary to the whole basic principles of the game. DayZ isn't capture the flag or team deathmatch. Rocket has mentioned player mods possibly in DayZ's future but for the base game, that would jut be a terrible idea. DayZ is a sandbox/survival game where players create their own interactions. You're ranting about a game that was just released this week, is still alpha (and by the way is better than many open betas I've played) and oh by the way sold nearly 200,000 copies the day it was released...and counting.

This isn't the "way it's going" or "the norm." Random encounters in-game quite often result in someone dying. No different from the DayZ mod. There are many "clans" that group up and organize over teamspeak and generally play together if that's what you're interested in.

I have also seen a lot of shops in my time... Yeah, pretty much what Mercules said. But...also red and blue vests? What? For free?! You're lucky you get a flashlight and a battery! :P But seriously...no me gusta. This isn't Team Fortress. It's not Red Vs. Blue. It's an extreme sandbox/survival + Zombies game. There is no black and white. There is no right or wrong. Also, before you go writing up what you suppose is a very extensive, well-thought out review I just have to point out this isn't even a beta. It's Alpha. I've played games with more problems than this that were labeled Open Beta...and some that were actually released! Yeah, I know some game companies ride the coattails of open beta for lengthy periods of time and players begin grumbling and saying, "You can't just say 'It's a beta!' forever!" but we're not even at that point and the alpha just literally came out this week. It's well-known that many features aren't implemented or fully implemented yet.

Lol :P I've got a Sidewinder keyboard (got it on sale cheap!) It's got a handy little Run mode button on it. When you press it, it emulates whatever keys you're currently holding down without having to continue holding them down. It's got a bazillion other configurable macro keys but that's the only one I actually use.

I've hopped more servers than I can count but I've only seen one character wipe so far. I don't really think there's any real rhyme or reason to it at the moment but you should expect character wipes regardless so I wouldn't get too attached. There are actually PVE servers which may be friendlier to newer players. If you can't handle spawning in darkness and can't handle other players, then just server hop until you find a low pop, daylight server. Click on the column where it shows number of players and sort by least amount of players first. Stick to small towns when it's dark. If you're really adamant about playing a specific server either hunker down and wait for day or just log back in later. But if you're seriously giving up just because of darkness and other players...derp.

I don't like the ones with brown spots on them, no sir. :/
