Constructive feedback and suggestions are highly encouraged around here. There are numerous thriving threads based on that concept and no, they're not just rabid fanboys yes-manning everything. It's when the 500th thread of the day complaining about combat loggers ruining your gameplay is posted or when people start critically reviewing the game and asking dumb questions like "why did I just pay 30 bucks for an unfinished game?" Which is stated very clearly on the product page, website and in game...that's when people reply, "it's an alpha." And a lot of people also seem to forget the point of alpha (see link in my sig) is not to bring you the most enjoyable game experience ever right now but to test the game, provide feedback, report bugs, etc. I've been in alphas where if all you did is play the game, didn't provide usable constructive feedback and report bugs and instead just complained about some aspect of the game or other players ruining your experience...you actually got kicked from the alpha. I'm not saying they should do that here, but just something to think about.

I wrote a guide specifically for new players and specific to the dayz standalone alpha that I think might answer a lot of your questions. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156472-survivors-guide-to-dayz-sa/

If it hasn't been mentioned already you can report it here, as a bug, exploit, hax, whatever you think it is: http://feedback.dayzgame.com

when did being friendly become bieng a sucker
ninjacalypse replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
To preface, I have no problem with how anyone decides how to play the game, bandit, hero, kill everyone, in-between, whatever...but the hype for the Standalone (deserved of course) has attracted a certain crowd of people. There are actually idiots on the youtubes bragging about their KDRs in DayZ. I mean...lol. That's just hilarious. -
question about camps in the standalone
ninjacalypse replied to GulpinGulpin's topic in General Discussion
Well, there are static tents. Dumping stuff in them won't do anything but leave a pile of loot for someone else to find, if they get there before the next restart. -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
ninjacalypse replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Surrrrrrrrrrrrre...blame the sensitivity. I was messing around today, did a lot of respawning for a video I was working on. There was a guy, camping the beach on a high pop server, like a minute after I respawned, I bent down to drink some water from a small pond, he started popping bullets at me, he's like 10 feet away, scared for some reason, and must have taken like 15 bullets to kill me. I was still for nearly the whole time while he was getting angry at the air, then stood up and walked slowly side to side and asked him if it would be easier for him to kill me if I stood very, very still. Which was perfectly hilarious because that's exactly the video I was trying to get. -
question about camps in the standalone

Nope. The only thing that remains when the server resets is what you're carrying. -
question about camps in the standalone
ninjacalypse replied to GulpinGulpin's topic in General Discussion
Camps aren't implemented yet but Rocket has talked about some pretty interesting/exciting features that will be coming. And dumping your stuff in some secret spot doesn't really work either because server restarts are very frequent. If you're already familiar with Chernarus from the mod, you'll find that the standalone will be pretty familiar too so you shouldn't have trouble finding your way around. Of course, there are numerous ways to do get your bearings in DayZ. -
Anyone else way up north and stocked up?
ninjacalypse replied to Sawlstone's topic in General Discussion
Go up to the roof of a building and jump off...then start all over. Starting with nothing, that's the fun part. -
Welcome to Hoboken, New Jerse-I mean...Chernarus! :P

Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
ninjacalypse replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, there's that like gibonez said but also look at the setting of Chernarus itself. Chernarus in no way screams modern day. It doesn't even scream 1990. -
Younger player needs group to roll with.
ninjacalypse replied to LimpBisquit's topic in New Player Discussion
Heh...the migration. Yeah, I'd like to get a server too once server admins have more options than they do now, not for 5000 vehicles!!!!!!111!! or any of that garbage but being able to whitelist players would be nice. Currently, your only option is public or breaking the rules and kicking everyone from a public server which isn't really cool. -
Try playing on a lower pop server or barring that just play on one of the servers in the list that advertises "Restart every X hours." Barring that advice, if you server hop excessively you risk losing your character. You cannot get them back. Don't bother filing a support ticket or feedback request to ask for your gear back. :P

Most common ways you guys die.
ninjacalypse replied to GenericSurvivor's topic in General Discussion
Well...uh...so far it's been once to a random character wipe and then to falling through a wall that I shouldn't have fallen through...because it was supposed to be a solid wall. So, both deaths to bugs. -
20 Mio. $ Gross Income - does it accelerate development speed?
ninjacalypse replied to Novalis's topic in General Discussion
Virtually the exact same thing is plastered on most of the sites talking about the release of the Alpha. I could have sworn there was a direct quote from Rocket on this somewhere but I can't fish up a link right now. This release, according to the developer, “ is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them”, but it is lacking some of the features from the mod such as vehicles and support for user mods. Those things are listed under the development roadmap though so they should hit before the full release which is estimated to be more than a year away. -
Pretty standard milgear. Although, I acquired all this stuff over the course of the last week, no server hopping at the airfields.
-
This isn't red vs. blue, team fortress 2, etc. It's a sandbox survival game. Making people "pick" a side, would be lame.

20 Mio. $ Gross Income - does it accelerate development speed?
ninjacalypse replied to Novalis's topic in General Discussion
According to Rocket, we'll be in Alpha for a little over a year most likely. I don't expect that timetable to accelerate based on income...but if it does...great...if not...I can deal. -
DayZ Standalone: Looking for no PVP server
ninjacalypse replied to Silentine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you scroll through the server list, by whatever your favorite filter metric is, most players, least players, lowest ping, etc. you'll find many servers with stuff like, "No KOS", "RP/Roleplay", or "PVE" in their description. Those are your best bets probably although, a No KOS server doesn't really guarantee you won't be KOS'd. All it really guarantees is if you get killed, the guy who did it might be kicked if there's actually an admin around. How enforceable all that stuff is per the server rules for the game, I dunno. I don't think it's against the rules to ask people not to KOS though but it might be to kick them for it. Aside from those keywords, look for lower pop servers if ya don't wanna get killed so often. -
If you need more of a primer or have other questions about the game, I made a new Survivor's Guide that pretty much goes over most of the stuff a new player needs to know. Link is in my sig. Welcome to the apocalypse! Well..post-apocalypse that is. Have a Zlutka!

How do you deal with other players?
ninjacalypse replied to SploogeMcDuck's topic in General Discussion
I take everything on a case by case basis. I saw 3 players yesterday. The first one I saw around Balota, the town proper, with a motorcycle helmet and an axe. He came around the corner of a house staring straight at me. I told him I was friendly, asked him if he had any friends around. No response. I told him if I wanted to kill him, I would've killed him already. He was acting really weird, he kept sitting down, standing up, going prone, standing back up, putting his hands up. It was kinda funny but he didn't talk. I dropped some food for him but he ran off. The second one tried to sneak up on me, tried to crawl up from behind me on the ground making all kinds of noise near the Balota airfield. I shot his body full of holes and he combat logged. The next person who looked like he just arrived from the coast, I spied running around the airfield while I was in one of the barracks buildings. He walked into the barracks right into the barrel of my gun. I asked him what his name was, if he could talk, did he have a mic, was he hurt, was he alone? I tried several different languages and tried typing too. I gave him an extra canteen, some tuna and beans that were taking up space in my inventory. He did manage to type in thanks twice, but I don't think he was an English speaker. Hell, I don't know what he was. I tried german, french, japanese and thai (just for shits and giggles). I suppose I should brush up on some conversational Russian and Czech too. He was unarmed mind you. If someone had come through that door with a gun pointed at me, I probably would've shot them. Balota isn't very conducive to making friends. I'm not sure what I would classify myself as. Ambivalent perhaps. -
I have solved the server hopping/combat logging forever
ninjacalypse replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I met my first combat logger today. He was trying to sneak up on me in some bushes by the Balota airfield. I lit him up. He logged. I'm not even mad. It's nice to know someone was trying to gank me and failed. I beat a retreat though from that area, because while combat logging might be cheesy, ghosting is more of an issue IMO and I didn't feel like waiting around to be unavoidably ghosted. -
The duping glitches are pretty common, even unintentionally.

The problem I'm having is while in windowed-mode the window appears to be stuck in a locked 4:3 aspect ratio.

I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself. First off, nobody is calling KSC names. Secondly, to generalize by saying it's okay to break the server rules because every single person in DayZ and every server operator is abusing them also and that everyone else is abusing game exploits is downright silly. The majority of the server admins are abiding by the rules set for server admins. The majority of players are just playing the game, as it's meant to be played. KSC admitted he closed the server and says it's open now. No one here is threatening to report him to his server host. While I don't agree with people kicking players to make de facto private servers when they're on the public hive, I also realize that SA didn't launch with all the server host options it perhaps should have so I can definitely see it from both points of view.
