This is bound to happen if you're server hopping a lot but I believe it's usually due to a server not syncing correctly to the public hive, not running the latest version or not having been whitelisted to the public hive yet. The best thing to do is find 5 or maybe 10 servers that you can play on without respawning and add those to your favorites.
-
It sounds like whatever server you're playing on wasn't running the latest version, hasn't been white listed to the hive yet or just desynced from the public hive. If you want to avoid unnecessary wipes I would advise finding a group of servers, 5 or 10 maybe that you know aren't wiping your character and add them to your favorites.

There's the dayzdb map someone already linked to if you don't mind the spoilers per say. There are some extra tips on navigating and getting your bearings as well here: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/How_to_find_North Watch the clouds too! They travel from west to east. Also, if you have other questions, I made a guy specifically for new players and the standalone alpha here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156472-survivors-guide-to-dayz-sa/

An Issue with the New Spawns AKA "The Kamyshovo Massacre"
ninjacalypse replied to wgaf's topic in General Discussion
Actually, the exact same things were discussed across many of those threads. And the only actual question you asked in your OP was this: "Did no one working on this patch even think about spawn killing, clearly not by the looks of things" I can't answer rhetorical or literal questions posed to the development team for you. Although, after asking the question, you then proceeded to answer it for yourself. If you want to contact the development team directly, you should leave feedback here: http://feedback.dayzgame.com You said, "All the towns along the east coast are empty, all of them. And they are all empty because 30 people have been through them before you." ...which means they weren't empty to begin with were they? Try a low-pop server or a server that advertises "Restarts every X hours" in their name, which numerous servers do. Otherwise, you should go back and read through some of the discussion on those threads, especially the ones with multiple pages of discussion because yes, these things have been discussed already. It's obvious you're sad you're not spawning near Balota anymore. This is a direct quote from your "real beginner's guide for new players" "Once you think you know where you are on the map and you are comfortable with what direction you can travel in you need to start heading toward the airport at balota. This is where the majority of the best gear and weapons are on the south coast and also is not far from a military base, also full of all that fancy gear that everyone has but you can not seem to find. If you can master this route that almost all dayz veterans take you will find yourself really starting to enjoy the game after a couple of deaths and you will understand why people like it so much." So, your advice to new players is to figure out what direction they're facing and then immediately go to Balota. You have been repeatedly criticizing other people in the forums and claiming that everyone refuses to listen to your constructive criticism and yet you fail to listen to anyone else's, even when they're genuinely trying to help you and steer you in the right direction. -

Oh man...I can't wait until Rocket launches DayZ Elite, with enhanced stat-tracking for DayZ so we can monitor our KDR 24/7. -
DayZ SA needs trophies for players to prove their "time-in-game"
ninjacalypse replied to Chronos Blackburn's topic in General Discussion
I really don't think DayZ needs to go the way of other MMOs and I don't think Alpha testers need some sort of special flare to lord over non-Alpha testers. And I definitely don't think we need some sort of way to distinguish "veterans" from newer players. Everyone bleeds red. I'm not against more character customization options but I don't think they're a priority and I don't think there should be exclusive options...unless you're Rocket. :P -
An Issue with the New Spawns AKA "The Kamyshovo Massacre"
ninjacalypse replied to wgaf's topic in General Discussion
As has already been stated this has already been thoroughly discussed to death here, here, here, here, here, hereherehere and here, all easily found in recent general discussion threads. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160755-new-spawn-system-needs-a-fix/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160773-spawns-are-bugged-no-more-along-south-coast/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160761-for-those-who-disagree-with-the-new-spawns-read-this/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160598-spawn-changes-too-soon/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160706-spawn-changes-need-to-be-changed/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160698-constantly-respawning-in-same-place/ There are plenty of towns along the east coast. There's even NEAF to the north. But...you're saying the new spawn system is making things inconvenient for you? Well, that's pretty much DayZ's mantra. "One of the key things that I wanted to get is that I wanted the player to have that sense of desperation when they started out. I didn’t want any sense of balance at all. I wanted it to be an anti-game. I wanted the player to enter the world and say “Wow, everything is out to get me!” and to feel that tension the whole way through. But I also wanted them to feel a tension from the environment, from the weather, from the land." -Dean Hall -

Woah...spawncamping newspawns in full milgear, that's a little dangerous isn't it? -
I know...sometimes I even boggle my own mind.

Let people play as they wish for the love of God!
ninjacalypse replied to mooky32's topic in General Discussion
So...gasp! You're saying that these "hero" types are actually grouping up? Just like bandits? SCANDALOUS! And you say shouldn't play the way they want to play because that is ruining your gameplay experience and interfering with the way you want to play, because you can't go around killing and loots newspawns with impunity? Don't carebear the newspawns right? Don't carebear the bandits either. You're actually trying to say that there are more heroes than bandits right now? Lol, in what alternate version of Chernarus would that be? Isn't the saying bandits use to refer to situations like this, "Deal with it"? -

500 rounds of 556 ammo don't spawn at Balota unless you're hopping between servers. -
On higher pop servers, before the spawn change the Balota airfield gets quickly cleaned out and many players will congregate in the surrounding area. Mostly in the field and trees behind the airfield to camp newspawns for...I dunno...their battery I guess.
-
Airfield hopper, meaning he probably went to Balota and probably spent a good hour server hopping on low pop servers to stockpile on all that ammo.
-
I like to think that perhaps aside from Hall's personal experiences that games like Rogue/Nethack provided some form of inspiration as well, i.e. the oft referred to YASD mantra from the roguelike genre, Yet Another Stupid Death.
-
Your run of the mill airfield hopper.

" I said, I missed the part where this game was about convenience. You quoted the definition of game, "an activity that one engages in for amusement" and said I missed the point? So...you're saying it's not fun unless it's convenient for you? Again, you obviously have missed the point about DayZ. But I also wanted them to feel a tension from the environment, from the weather, from the land." -Dean Hall DayZ isn't a carebear, twitch shooter and it was never meant to be. DayZ doesn't powder your bottom and tell you, you're beautiful. Hall said he created DayZ as the game he wanted to play, from his own personal experiences. If you were expecting a convenient game then you should have done some research on DayZ. And this is just the beginning. It's going to get harder...and funner. If players are going to complain about having to run for half an hour in a game with a virtual 230sqm game map, then they're probably going to be more happy with their mainstream twitch shooters.

Does anyone know that combat logging -> KOS?
ninjacalypse replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
So because of all the newspawns combat logging when you're trying to rob and kill them, you're just going to kill and rob them instead? Well, that's your prerogative. -
There was a guy complaining in another thread about how he killed himself and respawned 50 times because he didn't want to spend half an hour running to Balota...so instead...he spent that much time (probably more) respawning? Derp. And then a few other guys were complaining about how 'inconvenient" it was for them. I missed the part where this game was about convenience.

DayZ is the only multiplayer survivor game thing where you can't carry like 10 guns, WHICH IS FANTASTIC, lets keep it this way

If typical FPS games were real: -
A few days ago I spied someone running out in the open down a road, then stop and crouch in the middle of the road. I had a baseball bat... I ran right up behind him and... ...said, "Boo!" We talked and then we met up with a few of his friends in the forest and went off exploring together. So...I guess not trying to kill people is a good jumping off point.
-
Who is forcing you to run 40 minutes towards "endgame loot spots"? No one. I spent a week playing the game, exploring and gradually gearing up to "endgame loot." Yeah, I could've just done what a lot of people are doing and just go to Balota and server hop for 10 minutes until they have all their "endgame loot" but...silly ole' me...I thought it would be fun to actually play and experience the game. It's funny you called R.Neville a "child" because he and other players don't think the devs should cater to players demanding instant gratification and convenience in a game that is supposed to be anything but convenient. Some people would think crying about how you can't have something right now is actually pretty childish. If having to walk a whole 40 minutes is a deal breaker for you, DayZ may not be your game.
-
You say that pointing out the alpha disclaimer is just a lazy argument...and then you say there's nothing to do of value in this game except loot military gear. Then you go on to tell me to get off my "high horse idiocy about how this is alpha and man totally anyone who disagrees with the way things are going need to just deal with it because alpha." I've never told someone on this forum to "just deal with it because alpha." You also say you have a problem with the development cycle. In that case, you should actually be happy about the new spawning because it's a move in the right direction, looking towards the game release. The point of the game, isn't to drop everyone in the middle of Balota so they can all run to the airfield, grab weapons and then camp there and ghost new players. Your claim that there's nothing to do in the game besides loot the airfield and you can't be bothered to walk somewhere for 40 minutes and god forbid actually play and experience the game is a lazy argument. Then you also completely write off the alpha disclaimer that is at the very top of the product description you should have read when you purchased the game and pops-up everytime you start the game. DayZ Early Access is your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle. Actually read this. ^^ What do you think "participating in the ongoing development cycle" means? Just getting into gunfights at the airfield? The point of the alpha isn't to give you instant gratification and plop you at or near Balota so you can have fun. Believe it or not, the developers are actually looking for constructive feedback and bug reports. If you're complaining about the 40 minutes walk to get to Balota so you can indulge your need for instant gratification it doesn't seem like you really get the point of the game. DayZ isn't about dumping a pile of weapons and gear in front of a new player. DayZ isn't an instant gratification, free for all, twitch shooter. It's an extreme survival sandbox...with zombies. It's not supposed to be easy. You're complaining about being inconvenienced...in a game that was designed to be inconvenient! Dean Hall (Rocket) himself has referred to DayZ as an "anti-game." It doesn't really help the development team, if the only feedback they get is about Cherno and Balota. I know this sounds crazy...but they may actually want people to explore other areas?
-
Exactly, chutzpah is often used in that context to describe what the Cerne Abbas Giant seems to be missing in DayZ.
