  1. Anyone else watch his big streams and hear him talk endlessly about the patch today that was supposed to fix a ton of things? That he talked to the devs and confirmed this? Just goes to show the community is weighted with all sorts of mis-information.

    Rumored patch tomorrow?

Just checking in with the forums to see if anyone else has heard any rumors about a patch tomorrow to fix dissaparing bodies and revolvers? Heard it on a stream i was watching a couple days ago but i cant find any info about it anywhere else.

    server hop ghosting SOLUTION!!!

I think there are better solutions, but this is the best i have come across for sure
  4. This has been brought to my attention as a solution with a lot of potential. The server switch timer, the punishments for changing servers, these are all very iffy. The only thing that can work is if rocket regulates hives into a maximum of about 4-5 servers. BUT... I have heard that there is a system in the works to have a maximum of loot across all servers, but in the meantime, maybe something like this could be implemented, it would not be nearly as hard and can bandage the problem in a very effective way. Blood and guts of this system would go something like... Hives of about 5 servers. Stick with a hive.. Change Hives and you get reset. PROS: -Effectively stems the amount of blatant server hopping -Keeps players closer together, more repeat interactions CONS: -Low/high player count per hive could cause issues -The most lowly, vomit inducing nerds could essentially buy multiple copies to server hop systematically, but i doubt this would happen in-mass
  5. That defeats the purpose entirely...

    just a rant; no value.

Its nuts man, but atm its really the only way to get anything of value beyond an axe as far as US-EAST is concerned. Try jumping onto a fresh server in balota and witness the bloodbath
  7. Frost20

    These noobs.

I can say without much doubt that Balota currently holds 80% of the entire playerbase population atm across all servers
  8. A simple que system could help for peak hours

    Original "You are Dead" Screen

The only game i ever felt that dying was something of epic proportions was Dota 2, in that game when you die, a string of high quality music plays and you get some details about who killed you, followed up a pick up line. But in a game like this, i think death could honestly just be a black screen since we assume that people who die dont see, hear, or think anything.

    Rumored patch tomorrow?

Oh i understand completely, I'm not even upset. It's just that out of all the issues i have had in the alpha so far the body's are the biggest of all. When i first started playing the alpha i relied on the occasional body in the middle of the road or something to keep me going, or get me a good start. I think this is the core issue behind the massive adoption of server hopping

TO Everyone Who Camps Coast (Read)

Ah yes, where unexplained, barren buildings litter the land and tress go on forever. /cringe

    Rumored patch tomorrow?

ugh, i was afraid of that. The issues plaguing the game right now have it in what i would call the worst state it will ever be in as far as alpha is concerned. Just a simple disappearing body fix could hold me over till 2014... Its so hard to survive legitimately (without hopping) when all the gear is looted then obliterated when a body disappears.

Ya same here, i have a hard enough time just finding other players to begins with :P

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

Combat logging, body disappearing, ect, is part of the game, and we have to deal with it. The aspect of the sandbox does not change. The way people play the sandbox is up to them, no one has to camp the coast, no one has to combat log, no one has to server hop, but they can if they want to. Why? Its a sandbox. Thats why.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

Its a simple mechanic that hurts the game in the most terrible way. It would be best if they added a logout timer now or some sort of something to stop this from happening. Even if it means rushing it out, any issues someone could have with the fix would not be nearly as bad as the issue caused by combat logging. It is the single most retarded mechanic ever known to man. They plan to fix it, but they really need to fix it asap. EDIT: Ignore the ignorant crowd of responds to this post, it appears the state of the game is attracting a ton of troll-ism, as i predicted in my on of my posts on day 2. The game is sandbox, and as such anyone should be allowed to do anything, if people take interest in killing fresh-spawns they should be able to do that. There is no honor/dishonor.. Anything goes, so from the moment you spawn you should play as if you are being watched.

    Here comes the hackers...

Yet there are quite a few games on the market that cant/ are extremely hard to hack. For example, why have i never run into a hacker on Planetside 2? Dota 2? Black ops 2? I dont need an answer, i can answer all three. PS2 - Constant framework updates, in-game program that detects unusual behavior as well as an army of game moderators (most hackers banned in under an hour) Dota 2 - Server side data, security updates every month Black ops 2 - A paid, trained team of moderators that have been known to ban hackers within a day of hacking, to the point most hack sites dont even bother since they lose clients
  17. Seems like half the people in this thread think hacking is ok if its used for the right reasons -_- Well, i guess nuking japan was ok since it was for the right reason.
  18. The way this game is being made reminds me of back in the day when Blizzard was at its golden age, and Nintendo actually pushed out some really good freakin games. A game worth a thousand words, let me think.... -Warcraft 3 -Banjo Kazooie -Zelda Ocarina of time -Star-fox 64 -Resident evil 4 -Red dead redemption -Skyrim/oblivian ^ Games that are played even today by people around the world, people like me, who know ill have a good time. But what makes a good game? A game is art. So what if an artist went up and down the street and asked everyone what they liked/didnt like? What if that artist took what seemed to be the most vocal requests by the community and put it into art form? A disaster thats what! Dean Hall is creating an amazing work of art that nobody can predict, no one is going to play the final product of this game and say "I totally expected that" or "This is just like every other game". My only wish at this point is that Dean Hall makes the best darn game he can make, with whatever he feels is right to make it how it should be. Let the community give its input here and there, but don't let it alter your game vision. If you want the game to make us figure out how to play its hidden and unforgiving mechanics? So be it. If you want the game to be an easy, call of duty type game where anyone can pick it up and experience the whole thing in an hour, so be it. Just do it right, and make it fun, thats all that matters.
  19. Now before we speculate whether this is due to the alpha, or the fact they plan to release on console, we need to take into consideration that we invested in an old engine. While it is a very sad issue indeed, what makes it even more depressing is that this could, perhaps, already be hard-coded into the games' foundation. In other words, the engine is so old and out of sync with the current technology that it may [Will?] never run at 60 frames. The Arma engine can do a lot, much more than many, many other game engines, the problem seems to be that no one felt compelled to do the most tedious development known to man Optimizing the engine. Now personally, i have witnessed how difficult and time consuming these massive optimizations can be, even for some of the best professionals in game development. For example, the highly educated, highly [self] community motivated team from Sony working on Planetside 2 went a through a game changing phase in development and progression. It took them months, many, many months of a decently sized group of specialized professionals partnered with a nvdia representative to achieve a noticeable difference in what some would call a somewhat simplistic looking game graphics wise. So, that being said, i highly doubt that (in my personal opinion) the frame rate will ever see the improvement that many wealthy PC owners would like to see. This is all speculation however, but ill give you my source for what brought me to this conclusion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ssjr36NKTE as well as the reddit thread http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1thpsp/dayz_alpha_gpucpu_utilization_issue_video/
  20. This is called accounting for the lowest common denominator. That is not what is happening here. Watch the video please.
  21. What resolution do you play at?
  22. for many gamers 40 frames is considered really, really bad. Particularly in first person shooters. Some would consider it unnacceptable, since there are people already running many games at 120 fps
  23. I'm talking 100's, so thick you can barely even move through them without dying. Of course, zombies need MASSIVE improvement for this to work, as i once tried to die to two zombies a while back, and they actually ended up killing each other instead of me :/ This would fix nearly everything! (or come close to it!) People who server hop do it blindly and usually log out somewhere inside the bases. If you had a ton of zombies there when the server starts up (new loot) anyone who tried this Hop would get obliterated before even loading in. The sheer amount of rounds needed to kill enough zombies to get to the weapons would suggest people work co-cooperatively... OMG A KOS FIX! But of course, a lot of ground work to zombie AI and animation needs to be done first. Try getting two zombies to hit you at the same time, usually they just end up hitting each other, and they cant climb or path correctly :P
  24. Most important- Do not go anywhere near balota, in fact, stay far, far away from that city, and any surrounding cities, ill explain why in a bit - Never attempt to make peace with someone if you have your gun out, kill em with kindness, but dont expose yourself like an idiot. Try yelling FREINDLY?! really loudly and ask them to sheath their weapons - Immidiatly after establishing some sort of trust, offer a trade. Say something like, "Hey i noticed you use an M4, i can offer some ammo if you can give me something in return!" - Tell the person a bit about yourself, where you have been, what your intentions are, and why you wanted to be friendly in the first place - Final step (this is usually the final step in establishing friendship) Ask them to add you on Steam, most players who intend to kill you wont do this.. Some will, but most wont since it is similar to exchanging ID's in the real world. IMPORTANT FINAL NOTES: Balota is a commonplace for server hoppers who have probobly just died a terrible death and will be ruthless to kill with a vengance and without mercy. You could almost consider the people in and around that part of the world to be completely hostile and consider it the "Wilderness" or PVP zone. If you run into someone anywhere else, chances are they will want to talk to you out of sheer lonlieness as the rest of the map is pretty barren with players thanks to the black whole which is balota. This is Alpha advice, the gameplay mechanics and player interaction will change throughout development, but i hope this helps for now
  25. You are just exrtemeley unfortunate then, i have come across about 80% of people who would rather talk than shoot, 10% who want to betray, and 10% who just kill for no reason whatsoever... Of course, in balota, its 99% of people kill you on sight, 1% just wana talk :P
