  2. I have attempted to install the latest version, previous versions, and even .34 which indicates there is no such file. Each time I keep getting the following ! in a red triangle box. Anyone know how to resolve this?
  3. It just barely reaches around the 25% mark, and then it will stop. Would unzipping the incomplete file work? Reinstall what? Arma 2 and OA? I'd rather not, it is a hefty download again via Steam and DayZ functions normally. I suppose I could uninstall and reinstall DayZ commander, but something tells me by the error reports that the master server is dropping out or attempting to do something on my computer that perhaps my firewall isn't allowing?
  4. A dream of mine would be sandbox creation of strongholds/fortification. Defending it from roaming hordes, stocking it, ensuring it remains secure. Or. An ability to barracade a building, and place an anti-spawning flooring to prevent spawn hopping behind lines. If a player spawns in the non spawn area, they are teleported 20 yards away and outside of the building.
  5. I had a good solo play through for 2 months, burnt out. Came back after a break for a month and started playing with mates only to have the hacking/scripting begin to reach a climax. We put up with it for a few weeks, had a break until BE sneakily claimed they resolved it. But it didn't take long for them to return, and on a nightly basis we had to start over and over again. We had the tent stashes, but even that began to dwindle with each thunderdome or insta-death. Until stand-alone, me and my mates are just playing Borderlands 2 and will probably get WarZ when it goes live before DayZ. Whichever peaks our fancy will retain our interest at that point. I'd just like to point out that DayZ stand-alone is going to be 'locked' ie: no mods, no community changes etc, as stated by Dean Hall. This isn't going to be the holy grail of back to the future gaming, those days have come and gone. DLC and the innovation of those creating it are all we can pin our hopes and dreams on.

Convince me to buy the game.

As it stands it is not really worth it. A lot of the hype has come and gone, the remaining players suffer nightly hack/scripts. A few months ago I would've tried to convince you, now just save that $30 and wait for the stand-alone.
  7. If they haven't broken any laws or legislation they will be freed regardless of internet speculation or petitions. I personally want no involvement in the decision of this, as there are no hard facts. It's for the courts to decide.

    Free Gear IS GONE

Anyone with a thermal is going to have a field day.
  9. There is no need to be concerned re: balance and such. Stand-alone will have it's own alpha state in which balance will be fiddled with no doubt. Remain calm, keep stroking the furry wall, and wait for stand alone. I personally can't believe that games like WarZ and DayZ are pushing for retail within a few months. It is shocking to me from my past experience in software development alone, barely near game development. The masses of statistics that you blokes are claiming won't buy the stand alone, eh I don't think that is the case at all, they know little can be done about the mod hackers. They also know to expect a more polished experience and minimal hacking come stand alone. OP and others say the masses won't but ilike it's a threat, but in reality they will buy it. There are very few decent PC games lately, fewer cover zombie and survivalism, fewer attempt to create an all encompassing reality experience - namely DayZ. It will be successful because it is basically innovative, something rare these days if you look at hollywood, and sequel after sequel of game development. PS. I've never even seen another lead developer like Rocket post in the games own forums - eg. ghost recon, borderlands 2, so on and other games. But for Dayz this is something I've seen him and his fellow developers and team do time and time again. Communication alone is clear to me that they do listen, and it will show in the end product.

    Wipe tents, not player hive.

It really won't make a difference. People want a hive wipe to clear out the scripted/hacked guns that are stored and used. Seeing as the hackers/scripters have updated their software to bypass the updated BE, there is no point at all, as they will just spawn in the same loot and it will become widespread again throughout the hive. Without eliminating the hacker issue, wiping the hive resolves nothing. The only solution is to wait for stand alone.
  11. Crashed heli spawned nothing but FN FALs - 5 of them.
  12. With the update to the scripts/hacks bypassing BE globals again, it is getting tiresome. I'll wait for WarZ and DayZ retail, jump on with some mates when we're bored. But half the time we get insta-killed or thermal sniped. Plenty of games releasing soon that will tide us over such as Borderlands 2 until retail.
  13. Yes. I presume this won't mean the removal of sandbags or tank traps.

Why are dayz players so hated?

Most like it isn't any representation of the Arma 2 community as a whole, but rather some elitist jerk. Water off a ducks back and don't generalise that it is the community as a whole. Before they know it we'll all have moved onto stand-alone and they can have fun with Arma 3.
  15. I'm very sorry that you don't like DayZ. Here is something that you may enjoy more: http://www.hellokittyonline.com/

    So we can't ban Hoarders?

I personally wish tent hoarding was removed, it just eliminates the element of concern for players about dying. Oh I died? I'll just go to my secret stash and be fully equipped again within an hour. I realise that it take preparation to fill the stash, but lets be honest, when the widespread hacking occurred all the high tier weaponry was basically given to you through thunderdoming or kind-hearted hackers. Very little high tier gear was earned and hoarding those ill-gotten gains is just an unfair advantage. This is also why I would love to see a hive reset. Then I would have no problem with legitimately filled tents, but the duping issue still exists I believe? So again, ergh. Just wait for stand-alone I suppose! As for vehicles, it could be a clan parking lot and it may have taken them a while to get it. I'm not too fussed about that.
  17. Ever since the latest patch update all vehicles are alluding me as well.
  18. FN FAL - NV and Thermal scope is ace. But highly dependent on ammunition at crash site, even if it only had one no mag, I'd probably still take the FAL and search for more crashed helis at other locations for ammo. Personal preference really.

    A quick fail.

Hahaha the old still got a throwing object not gun readied one. I tried throwing multiple chemlights at a zombie once wondering why my hatchet wasn't swinging until I realised what the problem was.

    Consoles eh?

That second link you provided is from Ubisoft, and I would love to know where Ubisoft got those statistics from. IMO they are simply setting themselves up with a good excuse to remove themselves from the PC market in the future, ever since their failure of GRFS PC port. Hell Ubisoft couldn't even release GRFS retail functional for PC, so it doesn't surprise me that their games could be cracked easily when their coding is so broken. As for the statistics saying that the games are being cracked. Ok let's say that is true, do you ban the sales of cars because people do the wrong thing driving? No, so why is it acceptable for developers to remove themselves from the PC market using that as an excuse. Instead of using that as a cop-out, improve 'safety features' or 'policing' of the car. Implement better programming and development to ensure that the game is difficult and nigh impossible to crack. But, this will cost money cutting into their bottom line and profit margins. Something they won't accept. The majority of developers these days think it is acceptable to do a half assed port job and expect that the game wont be cracked? Then they go crying all the way to the articles claiming that PC gaming is dead because of hackers/crackers. I don't see PSN or Xbox live withdrawing elements or developing rights just because Shifty Joe can chip it to unlock all regions and cracked console games - and yes they are available. Piracy is the #1 concern of all profiteering businesses on the internet. But withdrawing your business altogether only hurts themselves in the long run. If they feel they can be successful on consoles alone, by all means go for it. But I have seen perhaps 1 or 2 original games for console in the past 3 years, everything else is a sequel, of a sequel, of a sequel or a rehash or reskin. Without a doubt console gamers will tire of this, where as PC gaming offers a much richer experience and possibility as to what can be achieved without limited generic hardware. In summary though, it is a complete cop out to say it's because of the crackers. What they're saying is that 9 out of 10 people pirate games. I have 20 people in my clan, all of whom purchase games they play, not to mention my Steam listing of probably 100 or so. So statistically, it is bullshit. If you were talking about movies, TV series and such, those are statistics I believe. Developers are hiding behind 'piracy' when they actually just want to maximise their profits for minimal work. Fine, but don't tarnish PC gaming.

    White Knight hackers?

Hackers/Scripters do a manner of different things. Some will kill and troll players, others will prosper with weapons, vehicles etc.
  23. Banicks

    Consoles eh?

I disagree greatly. I've had my PS3 for a while and I have no one on my friends list. Anyone who talks via in-game PSN chat is usually trolling or a child, neither of whom I want to befriend. I find the PC social aspect much more accessible for myself. Whether that is because of my age, or that my gaming experience since I was young was orientated around the PC, I don't know. Clan websites, forums, in game keyboard chat and additionally 3rd party voice programs. To me, it aces anything that PSN or Xbox can provide. IMO console has always been a simplified way of gaming, whether that reflects it's gamers I don't know. I'm sure there are gamers who play console because the effort involved in PC gaming and maintenance is too much for them. Fair enough, it's not for everyone. I do share your sentiment that I'm not concerned if DayZ goes console - Providing this does not negatively affect the immersive experience that PC has over console.

Key theft and hacks, is it safe?

The official word is that you cannot have your CD key stolen by simply playing DayZ or being the victim of a hacker/scipter. The only possible way to have your CD key stolen is to download and utilise a third party program, generally speaking, these are the actual hacks/scripts themselves. Rocket made his statement clear at the end of this thread - http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/89339-dont-play-day-z-today-massive-cd-stealing-while-in-game/
