When you've shot these buggers they're a little difficult to find on a corpse and around the ground. So a two part suggestion: #1: Recolour the quivers. At the moment they are a yellow which can blend in with the grass. Fluro blue which also glows like the compass watch chemical compound that absorbs sunlight and lights up at night. This way - a bit easier to relocate at nighttime and daytime. #2: Corpse retrieving. The body placement of the bolt once it enteres a zed or human is random, ie: a headshot with bloodspurt will appear, yet the bolt ends up sticking out their butt? Regardless, the ragdoll physicwill sometimes make the bolt extremely difficult to identify and retake, or impossible because the arm/body is semi under the map. To counter all of these issues, I wonder if it is possible to - when the bolt hits the body, despawn - but when looting the body, the bolt is contained within the body. ie: zed is killed with 1 bolt, bolt appears on the body loot as well as whatever other random item it was to drop. Ensuring that if it took, 1,2,3 or more hits, that same number of bolts is lootable. Not sure if there are issues with the engine to do this, but it would assist crossbow users in retrieval which can be a big issue. After all, each shot is precious to us when each bolt takes up a whole slot.

Why are people calling zombies zeds?

Soon to be released at the movies. -
AU$100 per month? I don't think you're looking at the right ones. How much data was that giving you? AUSARMA have the servers running at AU$400 per month for 4TB which is the requirement for UL/DL - apparently it is super heavy between server to master DayZ server. They accept donations, so if you're looking at hosting your own why not just pitch in to their donations. All going to DayZ servers only and can be refunded if one month they don't make the full amount. They keep the community updated mostly, and I've found their hosted servers to be the better ones available to oceanic players. Don't rule out higher pinging ones though, you can play this game up to 200 ping. So LA, Seattle etc can be played. I fully expect that when DayZ retails in the future, it will be P2P with the ongoing costs being put into maintaining Bohemia's own hosted servers. That way they can ensure secure loot servers and prevent hacking of ingame features.

Rocket's a kiwi, or aussie i think. We say it Zed. But I believe they're called zeds for short, 'z'ombie - zed. Wont be long until its just z ie: z over there -
What New Players Do Not Realize... Maybe a little help for them :)
Banicks replied to djkling's topic in New Player Discussion
I've only played solo, I'd love to group, but most all aussies are douches unless you're in an Arma 2 clan with them. Just gotta pick a quiet time or monitor NWA for the best time to go in. Even then it is a bit tricky, it only takes a spawner to appear in a barrack or a bandit to spawn and pick you off. I generally only hit NWA at night time, at least then 98% chance that you're on an even playing field against other players. 2% chance that there is a bandit with NVGs - I like them odds better than daytime. -
There are a few people on the forums who claim that Deer Stands have yeilded NVGs for them, I call BS on it though. Loot tables indicate NVGs only in the two Barracks of NWA and Crashed Helis. I've hit up barracks maybe a total of 50 times, and 2 crashed helis with no NVG yeild. Deer stands seem to mostly yeild AKM, AK74, Lees and crossbows. I've not seen any sniper rifles in them as of yet. I've hit I'd say about 50 of them as well. Ultimately, NVGs are really only from killing other bandits and raiding NWA barracks or looking for crashed helis.

3 day character, and have been playing for a month. Had a DMR and L85A2 LWS, was trying my luck for NVGs at NWA and because I wasn't patient enough to wait for a single zombie, I pulled then broke my leg and was forced to open fire and draw even more. Ended up dying. Patience is the key, simple, at any point in the game. -

crazy people with stuff (cheaters?)
Banicks replied to amwulfy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It greatly depends, sounds pretty legit though. First of all your friend goes out to loot dead bodies - he doesn't think how those bodies became dead? Chances are they were still scoping that position. How you managed to isolate the exact location and distance of the shooting amazes me, especially able to identify what kind of weapon it is. Generally, sniping bandits will cause a hit with a crack noise, then a bang of the gun. Buggered if Im ever able to locate where, distance and what though. So I call shennanigans and you're probably being a bit over dramatic. If you think it's hacking, post proof in the hacking section. Otherwise, welcome to normal gameplay. Bandits will almost always have better gear than you, and it isn't uncommon for them to have decent loot, get bored, and go south hunting nubs in HT cities. -
We should be allowed to clear waves of zombies.

Seeing as this is "just a suggestion", why not put it in the suggestion section. -
PCGamer: Day Z + Arma 3 interview
Banicks replied to thealgerian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good article, look forward to the next installment of it. However in an interview I saw of Rocket on youtube at E3, he mentioned that when/if DayZ goes retail that he is not a fan of Free-2-Play. Does this mean we can expect down the track DayZ will become an MMOFPS with a monthly fee? Early stages yet so I'm sure noone can give a straight answer. But if it does, it should be successful in the genre of Zombies and FPS alone with a minecraft sandbox ability? I'll say this now, multimillions Rocket. I hope that because you originate from the oceanic region, that we will get onshore servers as well ;) I know, I know, early days yet. -
I've only found a DMR in NWA hanger and an M14 from a crash heli. Not even seen a single CZ550, always come across the ammo in smaller residential homes.
-
Found a GPS on a player I killed. Same character found one in a barracks. Now that I'm trying to find one, I cant. NVGs not seen at all. PS. Helis have random loot, I found one and it only had an M14 and some random crap. So they dont always guarentee lots of guns or anything. I spent 15 minutes going around it to make sure.
-
Cherno and Elektro are high traffic areas. When I went through them I found rarely any food, but I killed a zed and dropped a can. Either way, you need to get away from HT cities. Any decent loot is almost always taken, and I'd estimated at least 25% of a servers pop is in cherno.

Carebear Detection Alarm! *Alarm Sounds*
Banicks replied to Shrapnel (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, personally hate bandits. But it's part of the game. Everyone is out to get me, given the chance I get shot by someone. So in return, I'm going to become a bandit now, it's much easier. This however identifies an issue within DayZ - there is no reason to not shoot other survivors. Incentive should be added to not shoot other people. I can't say what that is, because I have no idea what it could be. One thing I know is certain though, bandits won't like it. Because it would most like give a 'good player' an advantage. But bandits already have their advantage IMO - they are nameless/skinless and anonymous, any kill they make is one shot and they profit from hours/days worth of loot on the corpse in 1 second. So that is your advantage from being a bandit. So look at it from both sides of the fence. Otherwise it is just a game of FFA with zombie inconvenience for better loot. -

Depends what you want to do. I made a guy a month ago or so that survived and collected everything required except for nvgs. Made a couple of attempts in NWA for them, but gave up, and headed up north for a damn to refill the water bottles I'd collected and to hunt animals. Did this for a day or two, got really, really bored. But if you want to leaderboard it for longest survival, it's how you do it. No need to go anywhere near towns with water bottles and hunting animals. Ergo no interaction with people. If you want to PvP - hunt bandits for nvgs. It can be boring, but sit north west of the NWA and wait. I suggest finding a ghillie suit to blend in though, these are found in apartments usually, but it will cause you to glitch next login and lose your stuff. So you can probably effectively hunt bandits just dont move and wait for popular times. Watch NWA with your binoculars and wait for some poor schmuck to try his luck raiding the barracks and hangers. You'll have a chance that either a: he is a solo bandit that has nvgs, or b: he is a bait for another geared bandit with nvgs. In either case, wait for the shooting. You'll probably want the guy who will shoot, and they usually always work in pairs or more. 1 geared doing the shooting, the other spotting and will retrieve the corpse. Night time is a definite indication if a ranged kill is made, the shooter has nvgs. Sneak up on him if possible for the kill and looting, then make the getaway as best you can. Many tactics are available here, but use your common sense. The other thing people forget is bandit tents, think if you were a bandit camping NWE, where would you put your tent within decent range of the airfield. Go hunting for them in low traffic forrects. Alternatively, to get most zed kill leaderboards get yourself a crossbow and go hunting low traffic areas for zeds. Bolts are reusable and the weapon is silent. Silenced weapons are also good, but ammo is rare (ie: M9SD, MP5SD and M4A1 SD). So there you have it, apart from pvp there really isnt much to do end game for dayz. I'm sure there will be incentives for pve elements and pvp in the future.

Well the assumption for FN FAL and LA82 in crashed choppers is that a British SF was en route to aid in whatever even there was occuring. Likewise the assumption for US weapons is that this event occured after the ARMA 2 events. Naturally it may not provide enough roleplay elements for those who want it in DayZ, I share that sentiment. But at this current point in time, they are trying to get the basic elements of the gameplay to work. I'm sure once they begin moving towards modding ARMA3 or even retailing their own development of DayZ with it's own title. Storylines, PvE and RP elements will be introduced. It's not that hard to do, once you've seen one zombie flick all the storyline elements are the same. On an RL not, it is highly possible that an arms dealer or even US arms salesman sold the US weapons to Chernarus for whatever reason. Could be that the US attempted to assist the outbreak.

Yea it seems to be KoS 97% of the time. The 3% I'm not KoS is; 1% of they don't have a weapons, 1% they didn't see me, and finally 1% we we're helping each other and they shot me in the back for whatever reason. Airfields are just guarenteed shoot first and don't risk it. It is rather boring after a while, I would love to see incentives to highway rob people - ie: instead of shooting and looting, hold them at gun point, steal their loot and let them live. But no incentive = no reason to not shoot and loot.

No gun at respawn? Impossible for beginners
Banicks replied to kenny4587's topic in New Player Discussion
It is a big learning curve, but frankly it will teach you the necessary abilities to stealth. You will die, most likely lots, until you learn to change your approach to different situations. It will also allow you to experiment with the stealth system and how to lose them - through buildings, LOS, etc. You can't make the mistake that you can approach a town in a fast crouch and not be seen. Likewise you can't expect that you can escape aggro by running away, because you will aggro more. It isn't rocket science. But if we gave you a Lee Enfield, you'd only make it worse when you've aggrod by shooting it, you will pull 20+ zeds when you're in a town. Then what? You'll be making a thread complaining about how OP the zeds are or unworkable the stealth is. Baby steps bud, you are going to die as I've said, but fuck around for the first few lives. Get to know zed behaviours, aggro them on purpose to see what works. I'll even give you what I do. #0: Scout town from a distance & ID lootable buildings (youll learn this slowly) #1: Zed is aggrod, move to fast crouch (I'm usually always in slow crouch when around zeds) #2: Proceed to building with 2 or more entrances/exits and drag the zeds into it #3: Exit building using the other door, immediately going into slow crouch #4: Finally, LOS them around a few corners The exception to this being if you're unlucky enough to receive a broken bone. This is basically a death sentence with no weapon. Take the death and restart. -
Spawn clipped in to a house in Novy Sobor.

Happened to me today as well -
AKM seems to be quite good, with a built in range adjustment. Quite good for popping off players at distance. I took out about 9 players or so north cherno fire stations sitting on the opposite hill. Unfortunately it's a loud bugger because about 5-10 zombies aggrod from I'd estimate 100m or more in opposite direction.
