Is the L85A2 considered a sniper or assault rifle?
Banicks replied to A-E-I-OWN-U's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's difficult to use effectively in snap shooting. The scope it utilises takes a few seconds for your eyes to adjust, also when unscoping you're blind for a few as well. I would say it's a great weapon if you have the jump on a player/zombie. Not so much if someone has already engaged you. Then again, 99% of the time if someone is already shooting at you, you're dead soon anyway. I use it in a 4 man squad I'm with, so it's very useful for spotting and my role is a medic anyway so if crap hits the fan I'm usually on the deck listening for shots and locating. -

Zombies should be like the weather. (What DayZ is doing right)
Banicks replied to TimmyPage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends. Sounds like your collection of Zombie items focuses solely around the braindead, slow moving, BRAINZ nom nom nom type zombies. If you haven't already done so, watch 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later and Dawn of the Dead (the new one). Quicker moving, aggro hightened and hungry to boot. I like the zeds as they are, not mindless lemmings that will not figure out how to get to me in a crows nest popping them off one by one. -
The only things I can see effectively being taken from ACE is the stretchers and batteries for NVG and other powered things. I'm sure standalone will include those things though.

My download for ArmA2 stops at 99%. Please Help.
Banicks replied to BustaNoob's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Guys I'm fairly certain you will need to manually install the latest update of Commander via the website. I believe 0.9.0.62 will then allow Commander to finalise the update. -
2 Alice, 5 Czeck and the silly 4 pack one. I think you may be having bad luck mate. Unless the UK servers need a restart.

Yay, Bandit and Hero identifiers are coming in
Banicks replied to tuleg1t's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're kidding right? Fresh bandits will play noob on a fresh spawn, ask for a Hero and KoS in the back when they're armed and the guy isn't looking. How do I know? It's what I'd do. Considering Rocket only spoke about the idea of it a while ago, no. -
You were Thunderdome hacked. Start again.

Stopped reading here. Welcome to DayZ. You may find this game more to your liking: http://www.hellokittyonline.com/

Thermal sight needs to be removed
Banicks replied to SpeedyBanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Love it. Bandits will tell the Survivors to STFU when they are being sniped. The L85A2 is the sniper locator and leads to them being sniped. My response to you bandit snipers? STFU and take your own advice. -
Seems legit.

Switching from DayZ commander to Six Updater?
Banicks replied to 25Uniform's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't do it. Six Launcher/Updater is dysfunctional compaired to Commander. I just switched to Commander tonight, it is a God send. -
I personally don't Bandit. But I agree it is a bad idea. Rocket removed this for all the right reasons, to create tension and mistrust. It will also create a sense of trust for fresh players...that aren't. It is highly possible now for a smart bandit crew to keep their high tier players hidden and a prospect/bitch player to spawn fresh characters under the pretense that other players will trust them because of the skin not being a bandit. Ultimately though bandit skin or not, everyone should know to not trust anyone. I liked the heartbeat banditry system that was introduced, seemed relatively realistic to me.

Step 0 Run Arma 2 Beta patch exe Step 1 X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead - or appropriate path location for your PC Copy the original .exe into a new folder and name it original exe or something so you know what it is. Step 2 X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta - or appropriate path location for your PC Copy the beta .exe - go back to arma 2 operation arrowhead and paste the .exe Step 3 Confirm overwrite Step 4 Play Alternatively try DayZ Commander - confirmed to work auto patch within a few hours ago -
Berezino is the closet to North you can get a hospital. If you're being lazy up near NWA then it's pretty much all equal distances and I'm fairly certain it was done that way on purpose.

Early adoption manual installation resolved the Six/Commander issues. Speaks the truth, a friend couldn't update the Beta manually because of a "Invalid CD Key" message, and we've downloaded Commander tonight just to trial and it is actually installing the updates successfully. Beans for you sir and thankyou for your great program and efforts. *edit* He received the wrong CD Key message again for the beta update :( YouTube/Google is your friend mate. There are a few hundred guides on YouTube alone, fairly certain there is even an official installation guide on DayZ website as well.

Depending on the angle a sniper can still effectively shoot players attempting to enter or already in airfields. As a work around if you look directly down on your character (in 3rd person view) it does allow you to reduce the amount of tearing. But you will be blind as to what is around you. However, airfields are basically all the same and you should know the directions to go and the loot locations, so this will still allow you to locate loot on the ground. I've hit up Balota airfield a few times pre-patch. Dissapointing that it wasn't fixed with .5.

Spawn and joining problems after 1.7.2.5!
Banicks replied to Belydrith's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Same issue for me also. No issue with connecting at the moment though. Logged out in a barn north of Cherno. Logged in directly next to Solnichniy on the coast. I'm fairly certain that it isn't a spawn point as well, it was too close to the town. Leading me to suspect that it spawn me at another players location or possibly at the location of a player who I looted. Additionally, my pack reverted and lost the gear I had in it. Have you updated the ARMA 2 Beta to 95883? -
The DayZ team and BI can only rely on BE to do their job. Your beef is with BE, not DayZ or BI - the game is not broken and as you said, it's in Alpha. A long alpha no doubt, but I accept it as alpha because they're yet to develop the stand alone that is yet to even be alpha. So consider this a taste of what is to come as far as DayZ goes. But come retail stand alone, the hackers will disapear. In the meantime, wait until BE do their job...if ever.

if this is the alpha wtf will the beta be like ?
Banicks replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not sure when you started playing mate, I've personally started about 5 months ago or so. Soon as I started playing I recognised that this is alpha, but almost each patch was an improvement or contained an improvement on critical elements. Sometimes these patches broke a fundamental - eg. the patch that caused zombie aggro 100% of the time regardless of night/day, distance, noise etc. That was resolved within the week, with a hotfix. The following patches resolved other minor issues follow up. But each patch includes fixes. You have to keep in mind that this is a mod based off the ARMA 2 engine, which is practically 3-4 years old. What Rocket and his team want to do is create a sandbox game as a mod on a retail game which was not developed for simplicity, idiots, or common users. It was created for the military as a milsim with the ability for further modding to create addons as real world evolves. DayZ is not going to be able to mod the game perfectly, there will be problems that mean loot disapear, females can't wear camo/ghillies or people spawn in the ocean because of an attempt to do this. Most of the irresolvable issues cannot be fixed because it is base coded within the original game not to be developed to do that. Without going in and essentially re-writing the ARMA 2 engine, Rocket and team do the best possible job and give us an idea of what we can expect when they do go stand-alone (ie: rewrite the engine to stand alone DayZ) essentially creating the game they want and the experience I fully expect to be flawless. How do I know this? Communication from the dev team and Rocket is outstanding. Bohemia Interactive concentrate solely on their PC market and not consoles, this will ensure a flawless experience and not a crappy console port like the majority of games being released lately (tried Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier lately? the worst console port with fundamentlly broken compatability and network issues, a month later from release and the majority of people who purchased it cannot play it, only now is a patch being release - and do you expect this single patch to resolve the issues or perhaps create more). Rocket created this in his spare time, it is obviously a labour of love he enjoyed - whether it be zombies or survivalism. If you create something you love, it will be flawless depending on effort. And from what I can see he is putting alot of effort in and receiving very little praise from an entitled community who want a perfect zombie survival game for the low price of $30. Not to mention the server hosting costs a fotune but praise to them as well. The beta, I fully expect to be more polished and refined than the majority of PC retail games released of late by console focused developers. Period. Perhaps I'm up myself and a Rocket fanboy. But when you have so much respect for a game development that can turn ARMA 2 into such an immersive experience just as a mod...great things can and will happen come stand-alone. In summary, Rocket and team, thankyou and I know retail will be great. Server hosts, thankyou. QQ'ers, go away and doubters stop doubting. -
I have started to like playing while it is night time
Banicks replied to hashyakadave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, I've always preferred to play nighttime since I started months ago. With the daytime vision of zeds in the recent patch, it makes it extremely difficult to survive. Unfortunately, for myself in the oceanic region there are very few nightime servers running when I'm able to play. I used to be able to put up with high ping on US servers, but lately BE is kicking me for too high of a ping, greatly reducing the success of playing at night. I expect to see alot of servers running a nighttime peak cycle though if these daytime zed behaviours continue. -
What if I told you that there are 2 kinds of difficulty?
Banicks replied to bloodriot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The two kinds of difficulty are nighttime (ridiculously easy) and daytime (let's aggro zeds from halfway across Chernarus). Nighttime is practically free reign and the only thing you have to be concerned about is hypothermia. Daytime is prone everywhere remotely near zeds. -
Robin Hood the Anti-Hacker Hacker.
Banicks replied to jefe4life's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good on him. When BE can't even prevent hacking, the only way to beat a hacker is to hack yourself. (Not a statement of guilt or intent) It's a pity that he will/may most likely be globally banned once BE catch onto these hacks.....if ever. -
Military Flashlights.
Banicks replied to n_findlay14@yahoo.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Can you? I've found a fair few military flashlights and haven't seen any option to 'pin to shoulder'. Granted I've been out of the loop for a month though, so I bookmark this thread and wait for your video.
