  1. You posted this a month ago I'm fairly certain, not sure why reposting. I still play this mod as a bit of fun. Get hacked/scripted almost everyday, but the game is still a blat of fun on the idea alone. If the stand-alone is release around November which Rocket indicated was a rough release date, which we all should know can change, then b-e-a-utiful and game of the year no doubt.

Will dogs be friendly in 1.7.3?

My thoughts exactly. I can't see the pros of having a dog with the Arma 2 limitations. I did notice a track feature, if the dog were to track a sniper in the area or something, that would be excellent.
  3. Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if any information would be available soon officially about the next hotfix/patch? Mainly hoping for there to be some sort of acknowledgement and plan of solution for the graphical tearing/artifacting issues and scripting/hacker problems that the community is experiencing. I've been keeping my eye on announcements and nothing as of yet, presuming that you blokes are busy with GamesCon and such?

    To Rocket and Team

They never intended to make money off DayZ mod - the community did offer donations which were refused, so there is nothing sinister about it. It was a natural and expected progression to move towards stand-alone simply to improve upon the alpha state that this is currently in and proceed forward with an experience that is more in line with Rocket & Team's ideals. At the moment I would expect the foundations to be being laid for stand-alone naturally. But with "Dogs" patch around the corner I posted this mainly to see if the next patch would address the graphical problems which have been occuring for 2 months or so. Naturally if nothing can be done about the scripting then I would expect open honesty about it as I've seen so far from the developers since early days of the mod. My concern is that the DayZ community is slowly dwindling from the slight drop in communication of late from the devs regarding the rampant hacking and perceived issues still lingering. This community will be valuable in the future for trialing ideas in alpha mod that may be included in stand alone. However that said, if the community leaving is not able to stomach what is occuring perhaps they are not as valuable as those remaining and loyal. Just a thought. But would love to hear some official word none the less to relieve my concerns and curiosity.

    Does sniping need a nerf?

You'd be quite surprised how easy it is to locate an AS50 with the duping/scripting quite rampant. As for OP, I like sniping as it is. It's probably the worst aspect of DayZ's PvP because 99% of the time you will just die without any warning or indication. And when it's a sniper practically trolling a residential town it can be a pain in the ass. But this game is survival for the majority and if players have an advantage over you, it's not 'balancing' something by nerfing something they've earnt per say. Survival means considering that if this was real life, would you risk going into a large town of infected that is highly travelled and most likely watched by bandits...of course not. So proceed to play in a different style and this will leave sniping perfectly balanced. Luckily enough, 75% of the snipers I am shot at by they have no understanding of how it works based on the arma 2 engine.
  6. With easy access to high tier loot from thunderdoming players are gearing up very quickly within a few minutes of locating a body and then with nothing to do they simply hunt other players. Then there are those who have earnt it, or have found it and don't want to become a bandit. I'm one of those, but I'm helping some mates locate gear, and ultimately I've become a bandit protecting what I have and my friends. If I see a player acting suspiciously in the same town when I'm on overwatch I will shoot on sight, it is just not worth the risk and with zero penalties for downing a player, there is absolutely no reason not to take someone out first.

    Huey Spawn

And why would you care about being called a bandit lol. 99% of the people on here can't attest to not partaking in banditry.

    Huey Spawn

    Mmm, I smell target practice.

    Missing Chopper.....

Vehicles are stored specifically on a server, turning the server off, then on is classified as a restart. Thus you lose where you parked the heli and all vehicles reset. Your gear however is stored hive side so that is why you keep it. Fairly certain you're not supposed to be doing this, but with scripters/hackers and so many high end items rolling around lately. What difference does it make.

    Rocket does the Croquet

LOL, i expected some sort of crappy half assed video. Pleasantly surprised.

My secret for a quick gear up

Half the snipers in Cherno were given their gear from scripters anyway. Every 2nd person I kill has a full kit of everything from NVGs, Rangefinder, AS50, M4 silenced and so on. It's no wonder they just sit up in some lame nest and pick off fresh spawns, nothing else to do and they complain about server hoppers and such? I bet most of the time they will alt-f4, what nub sits in Cherno on a high tower exposed in a ghillie. It just goes to show how overinflated and common high tier gear is now thanks to the scripters and dupers. Once this is patched out or BE kicks in, the hive needs to be reset to zero and we start again. If it even can be patched.

    Average Life Expectancy

Funny, I was about to post regarding this but in a different manner. It's the first time I've seen the average life expectancy jump up by around 20 minutes overnight. It was 45 minutes last night, now it's 1h and 5 mins. Was there an issue preventing an auto update of this I wonder.
  13. Banicks

    Found two crash sites today.

I only managed 2 in 3 months. Bunch of mates and myself found 3 in 15 minutes practically next to each others fields the other night. I have a feeling that the % rate is going to be nerfed, they are being farmed religiously.

    Server UK 22 Tent

I think its a good one. Very rarely do people go into the industrial areas, they offer little in the way of start out loot.

    DayZ Vets

Probably beauce the artifacting prevents you from being sniped. It's great having free roam of military bases now that the snipers are avoiding them. Poor Elektro though, all those bandits sitting up on the hill/s. As for OP question, I was scripted by a hacker tonight and ended up with everything one could need. Leaves one thing to do, human hunting!
  16. Are you referring to the possibility of the game being on console and/or locking it down? (wanted to clarify) It's quite common now-a-days for games to prevent modding, keeping any ideas in house and within copyright for the mother company to register and release in the future. Call of Duty 2 was moddable, and the mods released by third-party programmers in their spare time added some great ideas to it. ie: Trip wires connecting grenades, blood splatter effect on screen instead of redbars either side. All of the most popular mods were stolen and copyrighted by Call of Duty and incorporated into what was the first Modern Warfare. It's just the nature of the beast unfortunately. We can't stop companies from making money off their own copyright material and perogative. Gaming isn't just about fun and games anymore. Companies raise and lose fortunes each game titlte lately, it is a multi-billion dollar genre.
  17. To be fair though, this mod isn't even the game that will sell. A new following will be necessary, a new alpha/beta will be tested and perhaps some of us DayZmod players will get to partake in it. Ultimately this mod is not the be all and end all of what is to come. That alone is the exciting part for me allowing the mod to have it's faults, hacks and bad days. If anyone wants to play a game with limited hackers and perfection, they will just have to go and buy something that is available now. Until DayZ and WarZ is released though, there is little in the way of offerings for Zombie Survival. I can't wait, and it's why I'm more forgiving of the issues in DayZmod and still play it.

    Looting through rocks

If you get back to your corpse you can attempt to. No guarentees though.
  19. I think pricing and business model decisions would have been a big part of the negotiations with BIS. If the game retails for around $30, an additional amount of money for what could consitute as an expansion isn't much. Call of Duty was one of the groundbreakers that showed you can have a high retail cost and still charge a premium amount for DLC - naturally this was forced on players because if you didn't have the map, you got kicked out of games. I don't see that as an issue here though. I believe you could probably purchase DayZ retail with "Chernarus Plus" and be content to play it until you no longer played. I can't see a way of forcably removing Chernarus Plus from players to force a DLC purchase. For now you have nothing to worry about. But a big wowzer for me in that article is Hall indicating a release date before the end of the year retail. I presume this is going to be pushed very quickly to ensure a WarZ .v. DayZ competition on the shelves. That way BIS don't miss out, presumably that is why alot of Arma 3 programmers have been reassigned to DayZ retail. But what concerned me was the mentioning of a console programmer (Operation Flashpoint) being brought across perhaps confirming Hall's intention to bring DayZ to consoles. If this is the case, it is more concerning to me than DLC costs. It severely limits what DayZ could become graphically and gameplay-wise. There are plenty of opinions and threads on that floating around though. Good find on the interview though.

    Alt+F4 whores

I doubt it is because they are scared. They've got stand alone to start, gamecon in Europe to meet and greet, and a mod that has an expansion comming up for feature expansion. Another map is probably quite simple for them to incorporate. But they obviously want to ensure the game is feature rich first for those complaining of lack of things to do and so on.
  21. Of course, but you are assuming that means a level of support that has been available previously? All that statement could mean is 1 staff member monitoring and adding to DayZ. Or it could mean no support unless they are testing new ideas, as this mod is their alpha cloud of ideas. Things will be added to trial, break and fix the mod. Does it mean when the mod is broken their level of commitment is to fix it ASAP? Not any more, their focus is the stand alone. But naturally in the due course of time they would endeavour to fix it, if it had any due bearing on stand alone. I'm not meaning to be an ass or anything here, just saying, alot of people are expecting this mod to be the game of choice since they've bought Arma 2 CO. They need to realise the level of commitment from the dev team may lower and rightfully so. The stand alone should be priority. There is nothing that the dev team can do regarding hackers or scripters. It is all based off of the Arma 2 engine and coding. So short of them going in and rewriting the entire game at arma 2 base level, it wont be fixed in a patch. But what they can do is stand alone - which gets the game going retail direction and eliminates the issues we are currently experiencing on release.

    Alt+F4 whores

I find it funny that initially Bandits would QQ about survivors alt-f4'ing to deny kills. Now Banditry has become so low, that Bandits alt-f4. Happens to me alot as well when I take the bad ones out. I always take my death, always. Exception to that rule is a hacker.

    Antibiotics?

I think there is a bug where you close the game, join another server and the infection is gone. I was hunting antibios for a while and gave up, come back in and there was no need the next day.
  24. You answered your own questions in this line (highlighted above). DayZ for the Arma 2 engine is a mod in alpha state to throw ideas at us (the testers) to see how it changed our gamestyle and gameplay and keep those changes if it was in line with the overall feel of what Rocket and team want DayZ to become. This mod was never going to reach beta, and as you said in all likelihood it will reach a point in time where it is abandoned. That is the nature of evolution in alpha, time will be concentrated on the stand-alone product. I'm all for that, the more time is spent towards that, the sooner it will Beta and eventually retail. You can't seriously post something like this and expect the mod to continue to grow and so on. The scripting/hacking issues lie soley on BattlEye's shoudlers and yes it sucks, I lost end-game gear in a second from being ported to airspace and faling to my death in unknown wilderness. But it's all part of the alpha mod in it's current state, and besides the #1 rule of trust no-one, the #2 rule is always, never get attached to your gear. It only takes one patch, one opening of a door in a bad position, and you die or lose all your gear. Just be patient. In the meantime get ready for WarZ if you want something similar. It is almost in Beta stage and should hit retail end of year. This should tide those perfectionist gamers over until DayZ hits shelves.
  25. Nope. It didn't come up for me initially, my fault!
