I've been out of the game for several month's and wanted to see how persistence has come along, if at all. Been trying to read up on persistence but the information out there appears contradictory and lacking. Some say that their gear left on the ground (in tents or in backpacks) stay after the Wednesday reset, others say it doesn't. -Is it luck of the draw? -Does it vary server to server? - Does public/private servers/shards affect how persistence works? Can someone with experience explain this please? Also, possibly a related question, what is going on with all the very short reset times on server? I'm seeing a lot of 1 to 4 hour server resets, what's the story with that? I appreciate help in advance!

Realistic Gunshots? + My little Show Off.
IIvIIozzie replied to Point787's topic in General Discussion
I think it's awesome that you went through all the effort to make this and post this. If the sound files are your own perhaps BI can contact you about buying some sounds. -
Weyland, aside from restart count how long in hours did the backpacks stay on ground? Did any disappear or did you not wait longer than 24 hours before picking them up? Also, was there any items taken/removed/shuffled through the backpack while it was laying there? Additionally, what was this event? A ritual sacrifice??

I find the current map size to be reasonable when consider vehicles, I'm not interested in seeing it expanded. What I would like to see is unique buildings in every town, at least one in the small towns. These buildings could have some unique incentives, giving players more reason to explore. For example, some items only spawn in the unique building of one town or the % chance x item spawns is far greater than other area's x item spawns. Of course also waiting on mod tools.

Backpacks will "sometimes" stay after a server restart, and can at least stay for a few days. The exact length is currently unknown. As an experiment I had 5 backpacks on the ground, two of which stayed after 24 hours. Containers like the small yellow protector case and first aid kits will persist, just as a backpack would. Gun's, at least rifles, will persist. I have hidden several rifles that have survived well over 24 hours. As Roy has pointed out, tents, as of right now appear to be persisting with the unfortunate glitch of items not appearing in the tent. It may become impossible to fix a completely filled tent as there is no way to add something to the tent in order for it to display all of the items it currently holds. With that said the tent glitch may give tent owners a level of security. If the tent owner fills every tent slot except one and the person who stumbles onto the tent cannot see any of the contents they may give up on trying to obtain the tent and the item's within, as it will take up to 63 attempts to view the loot.

Did some testing today with persistence. Went through 15 tall apartment buildings and emptied everything out in a hidden spot in each building. I found roughly 5 backpacks in my trip. The only backpack that stayed was the very first one and the most recent one I found. Most of the items disappeared, there was usually 1 item still left from the once big pile in each building. Server was empty the majority of the time so it was just me there. I will test tents again when I find one but I expect it to delete.

Temperature effects are broken since hotfix
IIvIIozzie replied to ColonelBurton's topic in General Discussion
I played for a little bit tonight and got the cold status. I removed the cold with a fire but then switched servers and got it again. With that said I do have several pieces of ruined clothing.I played for an hour or two with that status on light orange and it hasn't changed to the darker red yet to indicate hypothermia is coming up. As far as I can tell it is working correctly for me. -
I tried this, hoping it would bring some enjoyment. It didn't. It gets boring very fast. Aside from getting the essentials; backpack, axe, matches, and knife/machete, I would go to an area and start to pinpoint where wildlife would spawn. For example in Msta, I would start by killing the two goats that spawn near the pub/restaurant. You can kill any animal with the axe if you're patient enough but the goats you can literally run next to them as they run from you, very easy.I would then find a boar nearby and then take out the buck near the barn. For drink I would walk down to the pond. Rinse/repeat. I threw fishing into the mix as well, there just isn't anything skill based in the game yet to keep me interested in playing continuously. There is no point in hunting/fishing right now when you can spawn into the world and loot 6 food items from the first building you enter. If they nerfed loot significantly and made loot spawns based on player activity and population it might be remotely interesting to do something other than checkout the new exp patches.

The firestation would be a pretty obvious starting point. That's where I found mine, along with several fire axes.
-
I have no way of knowing how many server restarts were done since I logged off last night, what I do know is I logged off server, logged in five minutes later and the tent was there.Came online 20 hours later and the tent was gone.
-
My tent was gone as well. On a persistent server, or at least the server claimed to be in the title. There really isn't anyway to tell. Has persistence ever really worked, because any time I've thrown up tents or backpacks they always delete after a day or so.

The majority of players kill on sight. The reason they do this is because the current game mechanics favor a kill on sight mentality. Look at things from this view, what incentive does the other player have in keeping you alive if they already have the drop on you? - They can't trust you. They don't know who you are and just like you they've probably already been KOS'd several times themselves - By teaming up with you, you're eating up half of their potential loot intake, essentially doubling their effort to gear up (assuming it's just two of you). - zombies are quite rare and easy to dispatch solo so group play is unnecessary. - If they feel they are already geared up they probably also feel there is nothing left to do in the game other than to kill other players, like you. The only real reason to team up with someone is so they can watch your back against bandits, or to be a pack of bandits, however if you just met the person in the server they're most likely going to kill you, especially once you pickup an item that they desire. If Bohemia truly wants the game to have a sense of realism then they need to shift the mechanics to reward cooperative play and lessen the benefits of bandit and/or lonewolf play style. I don't know if the developers ever intend to balance this, it's certainly been progressing in the opposite direction so I'd have to assume KOS is here to stay.
-
They won't take action. If they attempted to it will get publicly leaked and they'll be screwed. As far as your mentality goes it's not so simple as "don't support it if you don't like it". Unfortunately, there has been a greedy transition over the past decade with server hosting. Bending over the consumer base by charging them $60-$80 a month if they'd like to assist supporting the game by hosting a server is an outrage, especially when you consider said game is in alpha. The sad thing is game companies are the ones forcing their consumers down these roads, and it's so rampant anymore if you decided "i'm not going to support them" you're now limiting yourself from a large selection of popular games you can support. By doing so you also won't be helping change the culture as it would require a world effort to make them see the error of their ways, and the emptiness of their pockets. So if that's truly their reasoning for taking the source I can understand that. In addition, this new pay to be an alpha tester culture that WarZ inadvertently started is getting out of hand. These companies need knocked down a peg or two from their entitlement totem.

So what items have you guys stumbled upon recently that aren't functioning? I see the cooking pot has slots now but can't put any foods, vegetables or water into it. I Tried setting on ground with stove/gas tank and nothing. Has anyone got fireplace working yet?

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
IIvIIozzie replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
The zombies don't do enough damage. They don't spawn in enough quantities. The respawn time needs to be greatly reduced in order to get a sense of achievement for clearing an area. Fix those number tweaks then we can talk about th walking through walls, variety in zombies appearances, movements etc. -
20 Plus Million Dollars Later...

Just want to see community preference on 1st/ 3rd person servers quickly.
IIvIIozzie replied to AP_Norris's topic in General Discussion
I can see a lot of good reasons for having options for 1st person and 3rd person only servers. There is however a few problems with that; fIrstly, in 1st person you will not always be able to pickup visible items and 1st person can be so disorienting and choppy within interiors. Additionally, there is a bug right now where when some people load into servers their viewpoint is bugged and they need to change perspectives in order for the game to render correctly. Once all of these issues have been addressed should they really implement these options. -
Item list for items with limited to no use + Tips and Rumors
IIvIIozzie posted a topic in General Discussion
No purpose: Firewood Rocks Cooking pot Shotgun or Magnum Shells/Slugs Rope Matchbox Paper - Was once able to be combined to pens to create notes but has since been disabled. Gun Silencer Attachment - can still be attached but after several tests does not lessen sound or lower zombie attraction. Previously worked but has since been disabled. Portable Gas Stove Burlap Sack Duct Tape Charcoal Tabs Disinfectant Spray Walkie Talkie Limited Purpose: Bayonet: One type of bayonet(M4) can be used to open cans; cannot melee with either when equipped onto a gun Tools: Most tools can only be used as melee weapons currently. The following tools can only be used for melee: Pliers, Crowbar, Fire Extinguisher, Hammer, Shovel, Pen, Pipe Wrench and Wrench. Firefighter Axes, Splitting Axes, and Screwdrivers can be used as melee and also for opening cans of food. The following items serve their purpose but may be difficult to activate: -BUIS M4 Ironsight attachment: This backup iron sight does work for the M4 but in order to use it you must remove the guns current ironsight. If you attempt to drag the BUIS over the current ironsight it will not allow you to exchange it as it would with any other ironsight attachment. -Weapon Flashlight: Can only be equipped to an M4 and not without RIS Handguard (Credit to :Retro19) -Books:These can only be activated if you drag them down to your hotkey bar. After selecting the appropriate hotkey number for the book you can go through the pages using either the left or right arrow on your keyboard and pressing the enter key. When finished reading the book press the esc key. Crafting: -Splints: Can be used to mend broken legs. 3 slots horizontal. Ingredients: Wooden stick + Rags or Bandages (Credit#: Devildog, Sandy and Touffe) Glitch: Splints can be used regardless of any damage to character and an unlimited amount of splints can be created if rags or bandages are ruined. -Portable Gas lamp can be combined with any size gas cylinder to provide light. Note: This can be an excellent distraction tool for activating on the ground and waiting for prey to come close to investigate. -Portable Gas Stove can be combined with any size gas cylinder. Once combined, drop item onto floor to turn on. Cooking pot can be combined with item once on ground and would need to be removed and the stove turned off to be put back into inventory. As mentioned above, this currently has no function as items can not yet be put into the cooking pot. Storage: Wearable: -Shirts: 0-6 slots -Vests*: 8 slots (*Chest Holster can only carry a sidearm) -Pants: 4-6 slots Backpacks: -Taloon Backpack: 25 slots -Hunting Backback 30 slots -Mountain Backpack 35 Slots Inventory Boxes: -First aid Kits: 6 slots. Can only store medical items.Takes 4 slots in inventory -300 Round Boxes: 10 Slots. Can only store ammo. Takes 4 slots in inventory -Storage Protector Case: 6 slots. Takes 4 slots in inventory. Storage Info: -All storage items can still be used without penalty after being ruined. -Tents can be found at NW airport, but are only used as decoration. There are no options for the tent; such as to loot or to pickup. -300 Round Boxes can be used to store up to 600 5.56mm rounds if you fill a 30Rnd STANAG (coupled) and empty the ammo out of it. This will create stacks of 60 5.56mm rounds. (Credit: Etherimp) - Some storage items take up less space in your backpack then what you can store in them. For example, six-slotted pants only take up four slots. There is a glitch currently where you can add these full storage items into your backpack or other storage, creating what appears to be bottomless storage. One major drawback to this is it's very inconvenient to get to items and very difficult to organize your storage, as the items do not move freely in your inventory. Rumors: I have either not tried or have been unsuccessful in getting the following to work: -Pen and Paper can be used to write notes. I have tried testing these every way imaginable: dropping pen and paper down to hotbar, equipping the pen, combining and choose "write note".... nothing works for me. It has been suggested that these worked in a previous patch but the most recent one broke these items for most players. Note creation/reading has been disabled. -Duct tape can be used to double up 30Rnd Stanags and used to create a splint with wood stick. These two have been tested and do not work. - Burlap sack and rope can be used together in conjunction with wooden stick to create a hobo storage backpack. - Portable gas stove can be used with multiple items once dropped to ground in order to make food. Items cannot be put into the cooking pot at any time, therefore no cooking can be done. - Saline bag IV can be self administered. False -Mosin Bayonet can also open cans of food. Tips: -When fresh spawning into the game try to find a water pump ASAP. Most towns have pumps close by. Select drink water from the options menu repeatedly until you see white text on the bottom left of the screen notifying you that you are full. This will allow you to go a long time without becoming thirsty or dehydrating. -Use http://dayzdb.com/map#2.044.074 for a map of the game. This is ideal if you have multiple monitors. Some players make this their default webpage through steam for easy use. -Ignore Balota airfield unless you are already fully geared and looking to PvP. Instead, head to the military base north of Kamenka or Southeast of Vybor to safely loot. - Eating rotten fruit has a very high % change of making the player sick. Never eat it. - Antibiotics, Pain Reliever and Charcoal Tabs can make the player sick after consumption. - The m4 bayonet is an excellent choice in absence of a can opener to open your food. The bayonet will spare between 85%-95% of your food from hitting the floor. Using the bayonet to open cans will make it ruined very quickly but it will continue to work after the ruined condition as long as it isn't removed from your inventory. - Axes are the best melee in the game regardless of condition. Axes can take a zombie down in 1-2 hits regardless of landing strike. -Dropping items on the ground may cause them to disappear. It can take up to a minute but they will respawn eventually in the place that you dropped it... with one exception. DO NOT DROP ITEMS IN A MULTI-STORIED BUILDING! This can cause serious issues with being able to pick the gear back up. Often times if you drop something on a certain floor it will place the item on the lowest level. I'd appreciate any help given by readers for improving this list. If you can think of any more please do so. -
Item list for items with limited to no use + Tips and Rumors
IIvIIozzie replied to IIvIIozzie's topic in General Discussion
Because it is an alpha and we are here to test it. It also proves that the items are not working correctly. I was just testing this. I didn't have healthy status in inventory but from what I could tell I was quite close. I was full of drink and food and I first clicked the alcohol tincture to apply to wounds, which got me sick. Afterwards I drank it. It ran my blood completely out to where I went unconscious and died. Honestly, to people who do not want to test the game I'd advise not using any of the medical items aside from bandages and rags. -

IIvIIozzie replied to IIvIIozzie's topic in General Discussion
Okay if that is true then why would I have healthy status if I am sick and why would I not have any notification that I am sick? I had not received any bottom left of screen text indicators prior to taking those items, they simply made me sick. Until there is actual evidence to the contrary I would suggest people avoid those items unless they already have the "sick" status in their inventory. -

Item list for items with limited to no use + Tips and Rumors
IIvIIozzie replied to IIvIIozzie's topic in General Discussion
I do not believe item that effect sickness are working as intended. In three separate instances I had healthy status and decided to try each of the following: Charcoal tabs, Antibiotics and pain reliever. In each case they gave my character sick status, even though I had not previously been damaged for a long while. I took these items to see if they would cause any affect when completely healthy and was surprised that they would actually cause sickness. In one instance I became sick (In brown) and took some antibiotics. The first time I took it it brought my sickness into the yellow stage. I took it multiple times afterwards and it had no apparent effect. It appeared that I lost sickness (In yellow) with time spent alive and eating/drinking. I believe it does have a purpose as well I just don't think it's actually functioning correctly at the moment. I would appreciate testable evidence to support it's working correctly if anyone can share. I have never gotten sick from applying bandages or clothing to myself. The only thing that has made me sick is rotten fruit and items that are supposed to prevent and treat sickness.
