There's no reason to go to the NWAF or the north anymore (here's why)
kurokitten replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I actually respectfully completely disagree with the OP. The two new southern military spawn locations haven't really made the NWAF all that much less active in my experience, but they have spread out more which locations are active. It means I'm more likely to encounter people around the map, while also meaning I encounter less people all at once; encounters have been more evenly spaced and paced. In fact, currently, I avoid the two southern military spawns simply BECAUSE they've become so much more popular. They're more dangerous now, so I'm encouraged to head north and east. The way I see it, creating more high priority locations both in the North AND in the South will generally encourage people to roam the map in a less predictable pattern. -
The thing you like the most and the thing you hate the most about the standalone ?

Thank god I'm not alone. -
This isn't a launch - not even remotely. This is an Alpha game that you paid for. This isn't even a Beta game. The current rumor is that this game will launch some time at the end of 2014, I believe. You might prefer to come back then when it's a finished product.

I think this, or more ideas like this, are wonderful. I'm not a bandit, but I will KoS if I don't feel comfortable about a situation - and unfortunately, most situations that involve another player I don't feel safe about. Having more non-lethal methods of self-defense feels almost necessary to me!

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

The problem with that thinking in this case, though, is that you're actually hurting players more who don't go out of their way to get around the system. I can tell you right now: no matter what they do to attempt to lock things such as Skype down, I can and will find a way around it; my friend and I will use that loophole. This means that we get to operate in the game as we normally would, but a bunch of less competitive players will now be broadcasting their positions unlike they were before - it is now easier for me and my friend to find players who don't try and use some loophole. It doesn't hurt people like me, it hurts people like you. Unfortunately, unless something can be absolutely enforced by the game engine, partially enforcing it will only make life harder for the non-competitive crowd, and thus in contrast easier for the competitive minded. -
I think the best solution is a sort of "family plan" implementation with servers. What I mean is: You're allowed to Favorite some number of servers (say 5) which you can move your character between. Put in a 24 hour delay for removing a server from your favorites, and perhaps some other sensible restrictions, and now you allow players to hop between a few Favorited servers for legitimate reasons (lag, full, dislike the regulars, etc.), but greatly restrict the effectiveness of abusing it for in game benefits. Edit: For clarity, I'm agreeing with Diggydug. Note, his suggestion is the same as mine where the number of servers allowed per character is 1, instead of some higher number.

I liked the Myth Busters series for the Mod, and I would love to see it done for the Stand Alone. When should you start doing them? That's your call, but I put my vote in for "eventually either way".

While I agree with the point you're trying to make, I can't help but call out your abhorrent way of trying to make it. Insulting other members is a very inadequate method of getting them to listen to you - doing so by using sexist phrases is even more so (I'm not entirely sure why having a Vagina invalidates anything another person says...). And don't let me pick favorites! Massicor is doing an equally terrible job of conducting himself in a civilized manner. When someone respond to other people in this manner, all it does is make it harder for others such as myself to take them seriously, or to agree with their opinions. In short: it's utterly unproductive.

How to Properly Rob a Newspawn...
kurokitten replied to -StonedZombie-'s topic in New Player Discussion
Did you watch the video? They were holding freshly spawned players at gunpoint to siphon blood off of them. This actually seems like the perfect kind of person to steal blood from: freshly spawned players are likely to pose little threat, while also having a full supply of blood. It's exactly the kind of situation where killing the player is actually counter intuitive to your goal (a dead player can't have their blood siphoned). -
I'm 25 in real life, and I don't remember my bloodtype for the life of me. Lost my card a few years ago, and haven't bothered to get a new one. Maybe I'm strange, though. Actually, the chart he posted is exactly how it works in real life. I understand what you're saying, but considering it works exactly how one would expect blood donations to work, I'm not sure it's really a necessary feature. It seems kind of like stating in game that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

Important: Melee hits register when the weapon physically contacts an entity. The crosshairs are misleading, and have no direct impact on whether a hit will register or not. This means that it's important to pay attention to a weapons attack animation, and then remember roughly where the weapon will hit on the screen. This location appears to change based on the weapon, but more testing is required. I find it much easier to determine where to swing when in first person view, but your mileage may vary. If anyone has any additional advice or information, please post it here. I will do my best to aggregate additional tips in this main post.
