I remember reading an article where Rocket was talking about OR support and how great it looks. Does the current build have OR support or did you guys use a third party hack? EDIT: So I've been fiddling with Vireio Perception and I've put together a pretty ghetto VR experience using it. Here are the following steps to replicate my setup. 0. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I have no idea if this will trigger a ban, I rolled the dice and if you want to experience this wonder you are going to have to roll the dice as well. 1. Go ingame and turn every setting to the bare minimum. Then go to your user interface video setting and set the size to very large, this will give a more visible center crosshair for quickly picking up easy to see items on the floor. Note: When I was first experimenting with perception I was consistently crashing out due to some graphics based setting. By turning everything down I was able to get perception to load. You may want to go back and experiment with your graphic settings after you get this running properly to suit your own needs. Be aware however that you may crash at random when changing anything. 2. Go to your keybinds and delete everything that numpad0 is bound to. This button will turn your stereo rendering on and off later so that you can manipulate your inventory. Sometimes you have to push it a couple times to turn stereo rendering off so keep that in mind. 3. Go to your " documents/DayZ Other Profiles/ [YOUR NAME HERE] / " folder and find the [YOUR NAME HERE].dayzprofile file. Open this up in a text editor and look for FOVTOP and FOVLEFT. These are the commands that alter your FOV. For a comfortable rift experience we need to bump the FOV to levels beyond what is capable in the ingame menu to something that our eyes (irl eyes of course) are naturally used to. Be aware however that these settings will cause serious warping when you are looking at your normal monitor and is probably unplayable unless you have your rift headset on. Replace your values with this: fovTop=1.5599999;fovLeft=2.77; 4. (this step is not required) Go to your " documents/DayZ " and open up DayZ.cfg. Look for GPU_MaxFramesAhead along with GPU_DetectedFramesAhead. I do not know the mechanics behind these commands as I have not bothered to do any research on them. All I know is that everyone swears that changing these values will increase your FPS. You want the smoothest experience possible with the rift on so it would only make sense to update these values while you are already in the process of altering config files. Replace it with this: GPU_MaxFramesAhead=4;GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; 5. Download and use this older version of Vireio Perception that I have setup. New versions of Vireio Perception will crash the client. You need this specific version of the outdated Perception in order for it to work. http://www.datafilehost.com/d/bac7294a (Note: This seems to be the cleanest website that offers free hosting provided you do not check the box that says download this with our file manager. If someone would like to rehost this somewhere secure please feel free to reupload it) 6. Copy and paste d3d9/libfreespace from perceptions bin folder into your " steam/steamapps/common/DayZ/ " folder that contains your DayZ.exe file. These are the guys that trigger the stereo effect. 7. If all went well all you need to do now is double click your Perception.exe inside of your perceptions bin folder, make sure you have it set to Oculus Rift and Oculus Track then launch DayZ the way you normally do. Remember that the Mouse Pointer does not render in stereo so your mouse location is absolutely inaccurate when rendering the game in stereo. Press Numpad0 until it disables itself and take your headset off if you need to use anything relating to the graphical user interface. Some options can quickly be manipulated with the arrow keys so if it's something simple it is possible that you can keyboard your way through it. One last thing, make sure you are running perception when you are running the game. d3d9 and libfreespace will always render your screen in stereo. However it's the perception application itself that blends it into the "3D glasses movie" effect.

60fps or 80fps or 120fps none of that is truly a requirement. They say you want that kind of FPS because you notice FPS drops significantly easier when wearing the headset which is unimmersive. Not to mention people who have not adapted to the headset get motion sickness easier when there is FPS drops. People who come over to my place to test UDK projects I'm working on used to get motion sick after a few minutes of use. Now they can fly around maps using console commands or blow up hundreds of objects at the same time (which causes spikes on my slightly outdated machine) without even breaking a sweat. If you understand the basics of motion sickness (or simulation sickness) you understand that it is heavily dependent of the person in question. I've seen people get really sick off Doom (1, 1990's) on a standard monitor and I've seen others do barrel rolls in a fighter jet with an Oculus no problem. Anyways point being is that the "FPS Requirement" is not really a requirement. It's more a luxury.

PvE Server - Killed by a Human
mrscratch replied to Aurentius Maximus™'s topic in General Discussion
On Topic: PvE Servers are going to require mods to broadcast player kills so that admins know it's happening. Until mod support comes in to play no one knows whats going on in those servers. Off Topic: People sure do love to throw around that "play style" word when debating about third person in a realistic survival mod, be it the fans or the staff of this website. Now god forbid some squishy casual players wish to enjoy the PvE aspects of this game. -
Your average DayZ player has an extremely low chance. Your average Arma vet has a high chance. Now the question at hand is how many Arma vets do you think are playing a alpha version of a standalone version of DayZ?
-
Well with the equipment you are using such a feat sure does sound a little bit shady. From that far away with that gear you should blend in with the terrain just fine when someone's using a natural right click zoom.Edit: Unless you went prone on pavement. In civilized backdrops that outfit is extremely obvious.
-
How exactly are you tracking the position of a players head that far away if you can't even tell what he is wearing? You do know that you can hold alt (default key) to move your head around so that you can look while moving in a different direction right? Also what kind of backpack were you using?
-
It's because you are using a fov setting that is wider then your monitor. The image is getting distorted to fit the size of your screen.
-
Higher FOV's are required for larger screens. If someone's exploiting the Low FOV to zoom in then obviously the issue pertains to how low the slider is willing to let you go. Not how high it can go.

Should I invest my time in 1st Person Servers?
mrscratch replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Honestly it all boils down to personal preference. Me personally I do not like dying to someone who can watch me from behind a wall so I prefer to play on 1p servers. As mentioned above one of the guys here doesn't like the player movement/body mechanics so he prefers to play on 3p servers. However to answer your question 3p servers have historically been proven to be more active so if that is all you care about then play on a 3p server. -
Pretty much this. Other then alot of the modern prototype weapons almost everything listed absolutely has a place in DayZ. The only real problem you run into when it comes to the firearm debate is people hating "overpowered guns" from DayZ Mod.

How do people respawn and go back to their bodies?
mrscratch replied to mtclipz's topic in General Discussion
On the current live build doesn't your body disappear as soon as you respawn? -
Indeed. The base files for the rifle are in game however the weapon is not. As mentioned it would make perfect sense if someone copy and pasted the nugget info over so that everything will be ready to have proper values in it once they reach the stage of adding the rifle itself. As we all know this rifle isn't something as simple as the current ingame M4A1. A gunsmith can easily take this classic rifle and start bolting on tacticool parts that are mass produced for this 70 year old rifle. Same gun, completely different feel. Something tells me that the simple placeholder ingame scripts/code for this weapon are there specifically because this rifle just may be a bit more complex then the other weapons ingame. Unless of course we're talking about the Ruger 10/22 which is probably going to be in the same boat. Same exact gun, completely different feel. This one in particular is like a 20 minute job that requires minimal tools.

The mag is internal and is typically fed with a clip. However aftermarket parts are extremely common for the SKS to accept magazines. Most hardcore SKS fanatics dislike these types of mods and responses like "tapco/10, would not operate" are so common that it's almost a running joke. One would think that with the current weapon modding system that it could run off both a clip and a mag.

Stop with the "This weapon doesnt belong" posts.
mrscratch replied to bassist05's topic in General Discussion
FPS Russia lives in america if I remember correctly. However the same idea applies, people seem to think that this type of gear is only in the hands of the military even though alot of it is crafted by licensed civilians or acquired by criminals. A combination of the two provides a high number of weapons from a small number of people. The gear is out there regardless of where you are. Hell even with all of EU's hardcore gun laws they still have tons of firearms in the hands of civilians. -
Stop with the "This weapon doesnt belong" posts.
mrscratch replied to bassist05's topic in General Discussion
Eastern Bloc has a bad illegal "underground" arms trade problem which means there are lots and lots of firearms in all shapes and sizes in the area. Just because that part of the world is famous for Kalashnikov's work doesn't mean that every single rifle over there is purely Russian. AR15's are popular which means there is a demand for them, do you think Russian mobsters care if they are selling AR's? They're doing what they are doing because they want to make money. Money defines authenticity and you can not authenticate their sales. -
Completely agree. I seen an elderly gentlemen teaching what I assume is his 10-13 year old grandson how to shoot a .22 (they had one of those knock off mp5sd's with the fake integral chambered in 22, tier 1 cost effective range toy there) and you could tell the kid was extremely scared when he first got there but after he started plinking away he couldn't get the kid to leave even after the older guy packed away all the ammunition. The range master and I thought it was funny.

Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
mrscratch replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
The number of illegal weapons is not going to be accurately recorded and then publically stored. For example, the number of teenagers with registered handguns in my old home town in southern cali is 0. Which would mean that no teenagers have handguns. However in the area I grew up in it seemed like three out of ten kids owned a handgun. Something obviously does not add up here which would lead me to think that the whole registered teenager handgun fact is't all that strong of a fact to use when debating a point. Edit: Basically what I'm getting at is that using weapon statistics isn't really all that helpful if you want to know the true ratios. At the end of the day there is going to be a lot of civi weapons and military weapons. The question is after the apoc how many of which are going to be left laying around. -
Thread about what guns we would like to see in game? In the eastern bloc? Every single day of the week. No SKS in DayZ is the equivalent of no AK's in DayZ. Yet another victim of fiddlin.
-
Here's how an Oculus would work for iron sights in text format. Normal rendering ] | [ Stereo Rendering ] | [ ] | [ Crossing your eyes to see things up close while stereo rendering ]| [] |[ Hope that helps you get a better understand OP. Stereo rendering in theory works just like your eyes do. You get double vision for objects close by and when you cross your eyes to look at them you get a three dimensional perspective.

After the sandy hook incident some local gun store was trying to sell one of those for almost 600. If you want to see a nice 22 search for the ruger 10/22 with a slide fire. Some guys got his tweaked our so he can bump off 30 rounds with no issues
-
Well as I stated previously the Russians are the only guys to ever mass produce steel cased 22 ammunition. So the guns should be out there even if they are not "popular" which in itself is a touchy debate because 22's have a bad reputation in gun communities only because of it's size. See this thread as a prime example of the state of the 22. Then put it in the homeland of the legendary AK-47. Not many people are going to talk about their 22's when you have LOCAL competition with the nuggets/sks/ak platforms.
-
I agree that it is not hands down the king of the most dangerous round in the world throne but it is extremely high up there specifically because of the pinball factor. As I stated previously I have spoken to EMS first responders and one of them has verified that they had a patient once that actually had four bounces from a 22 caliber gunshot wound. They will tell you that they lose people all the time due to 22's. And the fact of the matter is that in a situation like the ones you encounter in DayZ you are not repairing organs with a torn t-shirt. Even a single bounce relocating the bullet is curtains for you if you do not receive professional medical service immediately. We can argue ballistics all day however you have yet to bring anything remotely credible to the table other then your own personal opinions as to what you think would happen.
-
If you fiddle with the UI size in your settings you can get it in your field of vision but it's a bit difficult to read. Hopefully later down the road when we get proper mod support we can try to assist. However I doubt we'll be able to reach the point of proper stereo rendering without help.
-
What I was saying is the idea of picking one crowd to please and one crowd to screw makes no sense. It's not a requirement that you have a steady 60fps for an Oculus as it's no different then the monitor in front of you (edit: in terms of function, minus the head tracking of course). Obviously 60fps on high would be the best possible immersive experience in terms of an Oculus or a standard desktop monitor but to suggest that we can only have one or the other is incorrect. EDIT: Perhaps we're not on the same page here. Rocket is not building a virtual reality zombie apocalypse survival simulator, but they could still add the option to render the game in stereo.
