    Tent City

So, is it me, or is Tent City (or, as some other players call it, Myshkino Camp) always inexplicably deserted for what is one of the biggest military spawns on the map? On my server, which admittedly is only ever at about 30 players max, I've literally never seen anyone go by the place. Even I didn't know about it until I was hunting for player camps and just came up on it one day, and now its become my number one place to get geared up, as you can literally get everything you need from the spawns at this place short of vehicle parts and some other industrial loot. Case in point, I was moving my VS3 through the area when my internet dropped out right as I was passing the front of the camp on the road and I was unable to get back on the game for about 3 days. Naturally, I expected the truck to be gone or at the least looted. But nope, come back, everythings in there and it doesn't appear as if anyone actually touched it. There was even a naked VS3 sitting in the area that I had left a couple tents in for weeks at a time before I finally took them back out for my own purposes. Honestly, the place is so deserted that if it wasn't for the fact that it is such an attractive place to loot I'd set up camp there. So what's your guy's experience this place? Well traveled or deserted? What other places have you found that are like this on your servers?
  2. So, now that I've experienced the use of these particular supresors on my trusty 1911 which has since been lost to a vehicle bugging out on me in the middle of nowhere, I'm on the hunt for another pair of them, seeing as I'd like one to put on my UMP as well. But where oh where do they spawn besides the police cars and heli crashes? Do police stations spawn them? Mil spots?

  5. Generally speaking at this point in the games lifetime (when there's not nearly as many bambis coming into the servers), it would be wiser to trust people who are semi-geared rather than those who are fresh or fully geared. Reason being that someone who just spawned is likely to have died for a reason (IE, tried to kill and failed), and someone who is fully geared will typically end up bored and end up killing others because there's little else to do (Even though the dev's are making strides towards stopping that from being the case). People who are around the halfway point between those two will typically be more trustworthy because they're still engaged in the core of the game which doesn't lend itself to wanton killing so easily anymore.

    Are Police Stations Bugged?

Its a bug with elevated floors. Basically teh game lags and it thinks you fall through the floor and hit the ground below, thus the instant death or leg breaking.

    How to properly stash items

Well weapons don't degrade on their own as of yet so any weapon you hide well enough will be pristine until the server wipes it for whatever reason. Gear should survive though indefinitely on a persistant server barring either wipes, bugs, or theft. Drybags do keep your stuff dry (though, it doesn't matter unless its clothing) Woods would be the best bet, so long as you don't pick obvious places. Edges and corners of the map are out, as is anything near any high-traffic areas. But anyway, as far as stashing gear goes, best bet is to get a hunting bag (best camo bag) and use that as a makeshift tent. Leave it in a bush away from the road (so no one running with their inventory open could happen upon it) and it'll stay safe just about anywhere. Actual tents are too large and too obvious to be useful unless you have a TON of items to store.
  9. So today, I found myself telling myself that I wanted some more player interactions, because I havent' seen anyone since I started playing again two months ago. (mostly because I play on low pop servers and play the huntsman type) And of course, as fate would have it, I got exactly what I wished for. Ran into someone not 5 minutes later, and due to a misunderstanding (I keep my gun up when I'm looting barracks' on the off chance of someone hiding) and me forgetting to shout friendly when I see someone, I got gutted by a shotgun and died before I could stop my bleeding. The dude, of course, just sat and waited for me to die. But, whatever. Now I get to gear up again. Get a Cherno spawn, and what happens? Run into a clan trying to lure people into a trap. But, the silver lining there is that I'm no stranger to making myself lost in the eyes of people with guns and I got right the hell out of there. Still managed to loot some of the buildings however even though they were shooting at me the whole time, and now I'm mostly back to where I was. Still need a lot of my survival gear and a rifle, but even so.
  10. It was the field directly east of Devil's Castle, which seems to be a place where the crashes are known to spawn.
  11. So I guess thats why I found a random ammo box in a field the other day. Invisible crash site. Very interesting. Guess now I can actually go hunt choppers without migrating to non-persistant servers. Hooray!
  12. I mean really. The boonie hats in this game have the tab as if you can attach something to them, but nothing can be despite the description leading you to believe so. It'd really be nice to have some grass on my DPM boonie. (and really just to add grass to any clothing really. Not a full blown ghillie like whats coming, but just some grass bits here and there)
  13. That is indeed what I was talking about. BUT, the hook is something I never realized. It's actually kind of neat now because it frees up the space. (even though I still have two other spots taken up by extra hooks because I tend to break them)

    Some DayZ Facts About You...

After I'm geared up, I have severe issues with dropping perfectly good, high-end, rare loot in an effort to meet a "look". IE, dropping a Black High Cap vest for a chest holster to go for the Western Cowboy look for all of a day or two of playing.

Okay, I have some things to trade out. I have: Smersh Backpack (P) UN Ballistic Helmet (P) M1911 Mags x2 w/ 7 rounds (P) ZSh3 Pilot Helmet (P) Binoculars (P) Now, what I need is actually pretty simple. The main things I'm looking for are: Magnum (Preferably P, but W is also acceptable if other needs are met) Magnum Ammo (at least 40 rounds) Mosin Ammo (I'm looking for at least 60 rounds) Green Balacava (Has to be Pristine) Now, I also have a completely kitted out Mosin (painted camo, LRS, Comp, Grass Wrap, 5rd clip, 24 rounds, all Pristine) that I'd be willing to trade for another similarly kitted out weapon.
  16. The best advice I ever got about this game was to not to fully trust anyone you couldn't personally walk up to and punch in the face in real life.
  17. I think the real issue is that we start out hungry from the spawn, which does lead to quite a few bambis dying from starvation if their spawn doesn't put them in reach of at least some kind of sustenance to keep them going to the next town or two. Now, this isn't all bad, as being hungry from the start does also give you an objective from the start (Which helps bambis out), but its still a double edged sword. A good compromise might be setting hunger to the same level as thirst (Or at the same percentage, if they use different scales), so that way you can go a bit longer before you absolutely have to find food or die. But that being said, dying from starvation in the game's current state (or even simply having to constantly eat) is more on the player than the game itself. The method I've come to find as the most efficient is to just eat and drink every piece of food and drink you can find until you get at least the two green bars. After that, you should only have to eat every hour or so to maintain the bars presuming you don't lose any blood. (if you lose blood, I've noticed that your hunger and thirst tend to go down almost immediately afterwards) And considering the scale of the game and the commonality of loot (generally), that shouldn't be that hard unless you're purposely avoiding loot spawns. An hour in-game can get me from Svetlo to Balota and half way back just plain running.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Today was actually fairly interesting. Started last night with a fresh spawn, and that particular spawn ended up being the first game I've had since coming back for .49 that's lasted long enough to get decently geared up. And of course, as fate is a tragic ass, I end up dying because a zombie headshotted me through the ceiling right as the server restarted. Naturally I rage quit, particularly because I had just found myself a pristine assault vest. But, then I come back later after work and play again, and once again my character manages to last long. Except this time, I'm even more well geared and was actually able to get 3 bars before I even got off the coast (because I spawned in Svetlo and the place was deserted yet fresh). Now I'm basically a walking jackpot as I'm now able to survive indefinitely in the wild without resupply due to my gear.

    Clothes & Temperature

Here's a tip: Without green bars, you're much more likely to start losing temperature without stop. I've noticed that once I had the 3 green bars, I stopped getting cold despite not being fully decked out in the known cold prevention gear. (Only had a boonie, a hoodie, jeans and starter shoes). But once I let my bars go away and here came the yellow cold bar. Got some food and drink in me, and away it went. Didn't matter where I was on the map, same experience whether in Novod or Cherno. Altitude does affect it, as the time I spent on top of Green Tower did end up getting me cold despite green bars. Now, I did still get the near constant stream of messages, but I have a feeling that it's because I sprinted everywhere, so chances are that was just the fluctuations between not sprinting and sprinting. (Granted, I only frequent two different servers. So this may not apply to every server)
  20. Something that would actually be neat about Zombie hordes is that player groups could actually work to wipe them out. You know, you get a good group of 5-10 people and you all go in guns blazing taking down the horde. This would be especially important in places like Cherno, Electro, Novod, NW, etc where a lot of decent loot is going to be, and where the requirement of a group to deal with the horde (either by straight up destroying it or by drawing it out of the area) will complement the groups requirement of these towns in order to stock up properly. Having hordes would also encourage more forest play, where players who play alone or can't get into a group would still be able to survive out in the woods without having to travel into big towns (as typically small towns can resupply a forest player pretty easily).
  21. I'm just wondering, because my light searching hasn't turned up a straight answer. Does loot respawn on persistent servers? I notice that stuff I leave on the ground remains through server restarts (and it gets funny if certain places end up having stuff dropped a lot. Hospital in Electro on the server I play on has clothes everywhere for some reason) but I can't seem to figure out if loot actually respawns or not. I'll notice through server restarts that the coast cities will usually remain barren, but then I move inland and its like all the loot is fresh (and mind you, this is a fairly populated server. I can't imagine all 20 or so of the regulars stay on the coast only). I figured that may be loot doesn't spawn immediately, but even if I go back to a coastal city, its still barren. So whats the skinny here? Doesn't make sense to me. I'd also like to express my late appreciation for the fact that zombies can now be locked up in buildings with the vast majority of them now being unable to just walk through walls. Makes it a lot easier to survive before I get a gun when I don't have to melee zombies to get them out of my hair; I can just lead them into a house and shut the door on them. Granted, some still make it out (Mainly the ones that crawl-hop) and a few still manage to hit me through walls (and space-time as I back away -.-), but even so.

The term bandit what it means now

The thing about bandits in the mod was that it was defined by the costume change you got when your humanity (IIRC) dropped below a certain point, which only happened if you killed people. So when you throw in the very few ways to to incapacitate players short of shooting them, a bandit in the mod was basically just someone who KOS'. There wasn't enough of a functional difference between them and someone who was actually trying to act like a bandit. In the standalone, however, there's a lot of ways to incapacitate players and keep them that way. In SA, you can actually have prisoners. So real banditry is a viable option for players. However, the lack of any ranged non-lethal incapacitation abilities (To my knowledge) and the inability to restrict movement short of breaking legs (again, to my knowledge) makes the "lone bandit" a matter of luck unless you want to waste bullets and possible attraction of zeds and players to keep someone sitting still. But also in the SA, bandits are no longer clearly marked as such by the game. (Yes you could hide it in the mod, but typically donning anything other than survivor or hero was a death sentence anyway) So even though now there's a very solid difference between the real bandit and the plain KOSer, there's no functional distinction that illustrates the difference. Even so, however, the term bandit is an inaccurate one when it comes to the people its being applied to. A more appropriate term would be raiders.
  23. Wasn't so much that most people just wanted 24/7 day time or that they were noobs at night or whatever other silliness you want to come up with, but more that the first server the vast majority of players entered into was in nearly irrevocable nighttime, and stayed that way well beyond the average session. So, when people were looking at the game for the first time, they don't even get to appreciate whats really great about it compared to the mod because they can't see half of what changed between the SA and the mod. Many who didn't play the mod probably started to think that this is what the game is set in mostly, even though the game is almost never advertised as a primarily night-time setting.
